Senior Portfolios In High Schools
High Schools throughout the country have different graduation requirements for their seniors. At
Preston High School, a senior portfolio is a requirement to graduate. For the portfolio, students must
collect all of their accomplishments and report cards to place into a binder. The binder will then be
presented to employees of businesses. Another example of a graduation requirement would be
community service. For example, Maryland schools require 75 hours of student service. Based upon
research, some experts say that community service should be voluntary; however, it gets students
involved in the community, allows for better schooling, and gives students a better work experience.
First of all, senior portfolios only expand upon the students themselves. Community service allows
students to get involved with their community. Technically, the community helps pay for schooling,
so it would be nice for the students to reciprocate by contributing to their hometowns. Students
could get involved and contribute by picking up trash around the streets, or volunteering at the local
food drive. By doing so, the teenagers will get to know the people of their community. They will
also gain a knowledge of important town events such as the food drive or the community festivals.
In addition, the students will learn about the community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scholarships are essential to students for college, and there are no scholarships offered to students
for their senior portfolios. However, hundreds of scholarships are offered for community service.
There are specific scholarships given out to students who complete a certain amount of community
service hours. Also, several scholarships look at the student's community involvement to help them
decide who the recipient is. Furthermore, colleges will also look at the student's community service
hours. The service hours will help students get accepted into their desired

African Americans In Football
When/Why African Americans Played in the NFL
In the NFL's first fourteen seasons, a grand total of thirteen African Americans got to play football
professionally. In 1920, only two black men played, then nine in 1925, but back down to two in
1933. To play football professionally, an individual had to attend college where he would have
played football for his school, and once his college career came to an end, he would either be put
onto a team, or start a different career. If an African American came from an upper–class family,
which was totally possible, and had a passion for football, he would attend college and play college
football until the time of his graduation where we a pro team could pick him up. A man by the name
of Joe Lillard got ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many African Americans did not even have the chance to get a proper high school education either!
African Americans who were too poor to pay for a college education, never got the chance to play
professional football. However, no African Americans played in the NFL from 1934 to 1945
whether they attended college or not. A man by the name of George Preston Marshall is to blame for
that. Marshall was the founder of the Boston Redskins, and was the one who proposed NFL for
separate divisions and a championship game. Marshall also persuaded NFL owners that by not
signing black players, just like what was happening in the MLB, would make the public see football
as a "major league" sport. Every NFL owner at the time thought Marshall's statement was correct
and continued thinking that way for an additional eleven years! The Redskins however continued to
do so up until 1969 which made them the very last NFL team to sign an African American

Essay on Personal Narrative: How Society Shaped Me
Personal Narrative: How Society Shaped Me
What is society and how did it help shape me into the person I am today? First, society is the state of
living in organized groups of people. These organized groups of people are the ones that made me
who I am today and will continue to shape me, as I grow older. My version of society is white
middle class people who grow up going to catholic schools. These white middle class people are
only associated with other white middle class people, and very seldom venture out of this little
society. As stupid as that sounds to not associate with other people it is true. The reason this is true
is because of where I live, where I go to school, and who my friends are. I guess it is just like ...

Our community was like the one Timothy Egan described by saying, "Americans long have had
gated communities," because it was as if we were cutting of the black community from entering in
with us. I feel that hindered my development as a child. I got no real experience of the outside
world. There was no diversity in my life; it was like I was blind to all other things outside of the
white middle class community. With that being said I still think my neighborhood helped me grow
into a better man be engraving in my head good morals. Ever since I was a little kid the catholic
laws or morals have been put into my head and have helped me become a better person. The people
that drove these morals into my head were my friends and family. So that brings me to my second
social force. I feel my friends and family have had a good influence on my life. They have
influenced me a great deal. I tie friends and family into one group because I feel they both did the
same thing for me, and I see my friends as a family and family as friends. My friends, although they
have changed a ton in my life, have been great in helping me in my development. They have helped
me a great deal in my life but they were the ones who first started me drinking and using tobacco.
So I guess they weren't always good. But I don't think anyone can go through life without friends to
help them along the way. You always

Summary Of The Glass Menagerie
In the reading of The Glass Menagerie, we see how Laura, Tom, Jim O'Conner, and Amanda are
trying to escape his or her situation. In this final paper we will see how they were trapped, and what
they done to be released from their caged life. You will see how Amanda lives in the past, Laura
lives in her own little world, Tom is living for the present and looking for the best way out, and Jim
O'Conner is trying to become someone famous..
Have you ever felt like a caged bird? I have! When I lived at home I had a very strict father. Every
scenario went through my mind on how I could get out of my dad's house. Just like me, the
characters in this play felt the same way. Amanda, a nagging mother, who wants the best for her
children, Laura is in her own world, Tom wants to be free, and Jim O'Connor who was trying to
better himself. These are the characters in the play try to escape their reality in many different ways.
Amanda, a mother of two, lives in a house in St. Louis. She only wants the best for her children, but
she is an overbearing parent. She holds splendid qualities but her personality is of a difficult
obstacle to sympathize (Fambrough, Preston) 2005. She would even take on a job of selling
subscriptions of the Home–maker's Companion, so she could get extra money to help support the
family. She was married to a man who fell in love with long distances, and the last time she had
heard from him was on a postcard that said "hello" and "goodbye"

The Debate On College Tuition Essay
The Debate on College Tuition
In our country, several young students in pursuit of a higher education, must work overtime at the
local McDonalds, flipping burgers, to pay for their college tuition; while trying to juggle school
work and study time during their limited free time. Meanwhile these students live in a country who
has buried itself trillions in debt with no end in sight. Sadly, this is the environment that sets up the
impassioned debate on whether college tuition should be free in our country. In terms of the free
college tuition argument, those in favor of free college tuition focus on the benefits of a more
accessible higher education; whereas those in opposition point out the issues a free college will
cause a financially strained nation.
Free college supporters often point out that United States can afford to pay the tuition for every
student. Preston Smith and Sharon Szymanski argue in their article, "Why Political Scientist Should
Support Free Public Higher Education", "Free tuition at all public colleges...is economically
feasible." Smith and Szymanski go on to state, "tuitions and fees at all four–year and two year
degrees...totaled just over 59 billion dollars, only 5.6% of our federal budget" (Smith, Szymanski).
Smith and Szymanski are pointing out that college tuition is not a huge sum compared to other
government programs like the military's 396 billion budget, and with proper accounting free college
tuition is perfectly possible.

Famous Arkansan Report
03 May 2016
Jesse N. "Buddy" Benson
Although there are many famous arkansans Buddy Benson is not an ordinary man. Buddy Benson is
the greatest OBU football coach that ever lived.
Buddy Benson was born on November 9, 1933, in Wright City, Oklahoma, to Jesse Benson and
Louise Pate Benson. He was one of the nation's most actively recruited football players after he
graduated from high school at De Queen (Sevier County). He signed in 1952 with University of
Oklahoma under Coach Bud Wilkinson, whose Sooners team had won the national championship in
1950 (and which, between 1953 and 1957, won forty–seven consecutive games). Benson missed his

money for him and his family by selling automobiles. So he went to work for his father–in–law.
Buddy Benson believe in the student athlete. All his players were students first athletes second.
Ouachitas chancellor Ben Elrod, was president at OBU when Benson retired, said Benson
demanded excellence from his players. It is said Buddy left behind a "legacy of integrity, loyalty,
dedication to one's work" at OBU. According to "famous pro football player" Cliff Harris Benson
cared about his players and they're well being. In college Benson play for the 1954 university of
arkansas. He led the 1954 Razorbacks to the conference championship. People say that Buddy
Benson molded young boys into young men with hard work and discipline also building character in
the process. One of the things he was proud of over the years was seeing his players graduate.
During Benson's rain as head coach the Tigers earned their 300th and 400th milestone victories.
After Benson retired as head coach in 1995 he served as the athletic director til 1998. In Benson's

The Team Essay
That season had its ups and downs and despite a range of running abilities, every one of them
worked diligently to maximize their individual potentials. The one thing that they had brought along
for me from the previous team's mentality was the mantra that above all else, "the team came first."
It was a mindset that I had hoped would exist and one that would provide a strong foundation in the
coming years, both in cross country and track. As the season progressed, the confidence level rose
and the team's success did as well. The dividends of a more sensible training program were also
evident as everyone on the team continued to improve and became more and more accepting of
these new training ideas. So much so, that during the middle of ... Show more content on

With only three runners that could finish near the top ten or twelve finishers, I knew unless the rest
of the team, who had never experienced the pressure of running in a state championship could run
over a minute faster than they had all year, we were unlikely to finish in first place. Nonetheless,
that didn't prevent me from looking to the future. For the top three runners, I set up a race plan as if
they actually had a chance to win the team title. I wanted them to mature and have the experience of
battling with the race leaders, so that next year, competing in a state championship was almost like
second nature. For the other three people on the team, I set up a plan for them to hopefully run their
best times of the year with absolutely no mention of winning the team championship. In the back of
my mind, I was also looking at gaining them experience with handling the pressure of that level of
competition. The results went about as planned. The top three runners for the team finished in 9th
(Billy Preston), 10th (Brian Laguerre), and 11th (Mike Charron) while two of the other three set
PR's for the distance. The team finished in third place which immediately became the team's
motivation for the following year. The other motivation to achieve future success occurred for me
during the pre–race warmups and became my own personal incentive. It is also

Schools can be understood as reproducing social class or as helping to shape a more equal society.
The social class is highly relevant in contemporary Australia and is an issue that deserves much
more focused attention in public policy, particularly relating to education. The schooling systems of
public and private schools in Australia have evolved immensely as a result of policies that were
enacted as being part of Australian history. In terms of school choice, 'research indicates that there is
a major relationship between schooling and social class inequality' (ANU, 2015). The former Prime
Minister, Julia Gillard set up a major review called the Gonksi review, creating the 'needs–based'
funding (Gillard, 2017). The review was established to develop a funding system for Australian
schooling which is 'transparent, fair, financially sustainable and effective in promoting excellent
outcomes for all Australian students' (Gillard, 2017). This involves every school sector receiving a
certain amount of resources to bring all Australian schools to equal resource standard. To measure
its effectiveness, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, (ACARA) has
developed an Index of Socio–Educational Advantage (ICSEA) for the purpose of making
comparisons between schools (2017).
The results show a high correlation between educational advantage and higher earnings. For
instance, the My School website represents a great deal of socio–educational

The Pursuit For Happiness : The Positive Aspects Of Happiness
Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American poet, essayist, and lecturer once stated, "For every minute you
are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness." Time is limited, so during one's time alive, obtaining
happiness should be the ultimate goal. People are on a constant hunt for happiness. For some,
happiness can be obtained through small gestures such as a simple "hello". For others, they the
prowl for a little taste of what being happy feels like. Happiness is an emotion one experiences by
their attitude, living in the Zone, and doing what one loves.
People who see the glass as half full always seem to be the people that others want to be around.
Why is this? Having a positive attitude attracts people. The first day of sixth grade turned out to be
one of the scariest days of my life. New faces emerged around me. As I walked into the gymnasium,
where we were required to sit before school, I remember looking for my friends. Throughout the
whole gym, not one face did I recognize. Who should I sit by? As I was scoping out an area to sit, a
hollering of laughter came from the top row of the bleachers. I walked up the bleachers and took my
seat next to the boy who seemed to be the one everyone wanted to talk to. As I sat, he looked at me.
Politely, he smiled, reached his hand out for a high–five, and said, "What's up, my name is Luke."
Luke went on to become one of my best friends. That one gesture, that one smile, that one positive
attitude about being at school is all it took for

Analysis Of Annette Lareau's Unequal Childhoods
After reading Annette Lareau's book, "Unequal Childhoods", I gain a better understanding of how
my childhood affected the person I am today and the person I will become. This book categorizes
Americans in classes of poor class, working class, and middle class; Lareau studies multiple
families in each of these classes, including different races. In the following essay, I will apply the
same concepts Lareau used in her book to my own life.
Daily Life My Mother, Dawn, grew up in a working–class family with her parents separated and
trying to make ends meet with her Dad and two siblings. She graduated high school and went on to
work at McDonalds for a few years, before she got married. My father, Jerry, grew up poor moving
different houses every year with his mom, step dad, and five other siblings. His father died when he
was three and his step father died when he was about thirteen. Jerry dropped out of high school
without completing the ninth grade so he could work to provide for his mom and other siblings.
Dawn and Jerry married and had their first child in 1988, a daughter named Brittany. In the same
year my family moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in the town of Okalona, right by
the busy streets of Preston Highway and Outer Loop. The house is brick and was built in the early
1940's, it is two stories with four bedrooms and two baths, with two garages, a swimming pool, and
big back yard, the house sits on .94 acres of land. Jerry worked as a painter in the union since he
was 16 and always had the aspirations of owning his own business. Dawn stayed home to care for
the home and the children. Two years after Brittany was born, they had another daughter named
Ashley in January of 1990. At this point Jerry was still working at the Union as a painter and was
attempting to start his own painting business. In 1993, Jerry was contracted with a construction
company building 20 new houses a year, this was the start of his painting company. All through the
90's and early 2000's Jerry and his paint crew were working seven days a week painting store after
store and house after house. He had three work vans and two nine–man crews going non–stop. This
is what led the family's social class to

Why Preston High School Should Not Wear Uniforms
Preston High School should not adhere to a school dress code because it limits self–expression, high
initial cost and can be very uncomfortable. Yes, some people say that school uniforms are better so
that you don't have to worry about students wearing inappropriate clothing to school but, wearing
the uniforms doesn't allow the students to show their true selves. People may say uniforms are or
can be comfortable but, honestly I don't see how wearing that same exact clothes everyday or each

Mise-en-Scene in Napoleon Dynamite Essay
Mise–en–Scene in Napoleon Dynamite
In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder)
is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character; they are
the primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in
the film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s).
This effect is achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess utilizes in order
to bring out Napoleon's persona in ways other than simply "guessing" who he really is. Rather, these
techniques "explicitly imply" certain character traits; they are like clues that allow one to see the ...

Additionally, considerable portion of the significant sound in the film occurs in the music. The most
blatant effect of the music is the cheesy MIDI arrangements. These outdated compositions portray
the tackiness of Napoleon; he and the music are clearly out of style. One of the crudest examples of
this is when Napoleon buys his suit; the muzak in the background is as unbearably corny as
Napoleon's taste in clothing. Albeit music is a fundamental factor in Napoleon Dynamite, it is not
the only element of sound that is relevant.
The sound effects in the film also give clues as to what kind of person Napoleon really is. One
supporting example is when he is eating "tots" in the middle of class. The unnecessarily loud
crunching noise portrays his manifest lack of craftiness and style. There was one audio technique,
however, that was extremely puzzling. In every scene inside a house, there is a very subtle
background of birds chirping. This emphasizes the fact that Napoleon lives a rural community,
rather than a busy suburb or city setting. This sound is extremely understated, however, and is
obviously intended to be a subconscious feature to the viewer.
Napoleon uses some of his own characteristic sounds in the film to facilitate who he is. As a matter
of fact, the first sound he makes in the movie is long, depressed sigh when he sees the school bus
approaching. This

High Education Is A Modern Day Crisis
Tuition to attend a university or college in America has gradually been increasing making the
pursuit for a degree even more expensive than before. The escalation of the affordability of seeking
a higher education is a modern day crisis! A college degree is very important in today's fields
predominantly due to the increase in competition for a job. Degrees are viewed as a requirement for
a numerous amount of jobs even though one is not guaranteed work in that field. Compared to other
countries around the world, America has been gradually dwindling down the ranks in student's
standardized test scores in subjects taught in school. Why has this become a trend? The pursuit for a
higher education in America should be free for whoever meets admission standards, as well as
maintaining state requirements to their public college of choice, regardless of the applicant's ability
to pay. Yes, the government offers financial aid to students who qualify for it, but being drowned in
an ocean of debt after graduation is not ideal for anyone and actually discouraging. So why should
one even attend college in the first place? This is an easy question to answer if they have got what it
takes to graduate. Attending college is an investment in your education and statistically has a high
return; a return higher than an investment in the stock market or housing market on average.
"According to the classic investment theory that describes the decision to attend college, individuals

William Styron: A Personal Analysis
"A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live
several lives while reading", said William Styron, author of the Pulitzer Prize–winning book, The
Confessions of Nat Turner. I absolutely agree with Styron's expressive view of what reading is like.
Reading has shaped me into the person I am today and yet unendingly persists to keep changing me.
The root of my passion for reading came from the reading I was forced to do when I was a child.
Once I embraced reading as a habit, my curiosity got the best of me to pay attention to what I was
reading. Concentrating led to my sudden change of attitude toward reading. The place where I had

We knew we had to give it our all. At the start line, Coach wrote a "1" on our leg to keep in mind the
one year we didn't make it to states. We knew that staying home this year was not an option. We
raced hard with everything we had. As everyone finished we had this feeling of defeat. We cried and
just put ourselves down. We were not confident in our performances. Coach Martin and P. Sines
knew it was a close race. However they had more information than we did. They knew the results.
They watched us cry as a team and continue to believe we didn't make top three. This was the
moment I will never forget. "Coming in third place is.....PRESTON HIGH SCOOOOOOL"

Brett Essey Quotes
In the novel Stick by Michael Harmon, high school football star, Brett "Stick" Peterson and the
nerdy outcast, Preston Underwood become unlikely friends. After becoming friends, Brett starts to
realize the sport he loves is ruining his life. Together, they overcome the obstacles thrown at them.
Excellence, Integrity, and Respect are three of the Einstein P.R.I.D.E. traits that Brett shows. Brett is
constantly striving for excellence. To demonstrate excellence, you must always be your best self.
"All four eggs exploded on the kid's head and shoulders, the cracking noise echoing as the slimy
yolks cascaded over him. Tilly slapped his hands together, pumping his fist and bellowing through
the courtyard... 'Hey, Till? You're an asshole''' (8). This illustrates that Brett shows excellence
because he stood up for Preston, against Brett's teammate, Till. Brett, like everyone else, could have
just let it happen and laughed it off. ENDING ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you have integrity, it means you can be trusted and be honest. "'You got anything to tell me about
their defense?' 'Yeah. They play it well.'" (140). This shows that Brett demonstrates integrity
because he could have told Ben how his old team played. Brett had transferred to a new school
because his football team, the Saxons, had bullied him. The Tigers would have an advantage over
the Saxons because Brett told them their tactics. However, Brett knows it's not right to tell his
teammates and cheat. In short, Brett shows integrity, no matter what the circumstances

Pipeline Problem
The overall demographics in the tech sector are pretty skewed to white men and to some degree
Asian.
Now, some people may say the strikingly low levels of minority and women representation is
because we do not have enough women and people of color applying for the job in the tech sector.
The so–called
"pipeline problem".
In her research article "The Lack of Diversity in Tech is a cultural Issue" published by Forbes
Magazine, Bonnie Marcus dispels that myth. She states, "The answer is we don't see more progress
because the pipeline concern is not the primary reason for the discouraging statistics. There's a
bigger issue. It's the culture. We can attempt to solve the problem by educating more women and
minorities and challenging hiring practices which are all important initiatives, but the underlying
issue that must be addressed to solve this problem is the hidden and often overt discrimination that
prevails in the tech industry."
White and Asian workers make up 88% of all science and engineering jobs.
The chart above shows scientists and engineering occupations in 2013.

Personal Narrative: Football At Dewitt High School
Football at Dewitt High School is probably the biggest thing at our school. Friday nights, the town
closes down and everyone is at the stadium. Being on varsity as a sophomore was a cool experience
even tho I wasn't on at the beginning of the season. In my eyes football is the hardest sport for men
athletes, the fear that someone is always behind you and that there is the constant fear that you wont
be on your game for the scouts that are there. To get a D1 scholarship you must be a freak. The kids

The Importance Of Short Term Gain In Basketball
This year I hope to get a 4.0 for every quarter because I want to beat my brother for highest GPA in
the family. Also, I'll feel smart (lol). He has gotten a 4.0 for every quarter for every year ever since
seventh grade through high school, so far. I would also like to join the basketball team for either the
future or in eighth grade, right now. If I get cut, I'll keep going. "Short term pain leads to long term
gain" is the quote I'll follow. Sometimes you need to go through hell to get to paradise and for me,
that hell is not making it onto the team. But the long term gain is getting onto the team after the
years of hard work. I'd rather get onto the team with good skill, that get onto the team because of my
wants.

Whiteboard Research Paper
Abstract
The purpose of the assignment is to determine if Interactive White Boards enhance teaching and
learning for teachers and their students. According to research, two–thirds of all teachers feel they
are not at all prepared to incorporate technology into their teaching. This is a distressing discovery
because this means that sixty–six percent of our teachers, who we rely on for intellectual leadership,
and forthcoming high–tech comprehension, are not at all technologically embellished. The
comforting fabrication that we tell ourselves is that we are coming into a new era where
technologically debilitated teachers will soon be retiring, and will be replaced by youthful,
technologically literate educators. However, recent surveys have found that young teacher's self–
assessment of their ability to teach with technology showed no sign of improvement from ... Show

Do you believe you are able to learn better when a whiteboard is used in the classroom?
"Students who responded affirmatively mentioned that they felt they learned better because the
visual aspects of the whiteboard made it easier to understand what the teacher was teaching. They
also mentioned that, when the teacher used the whiteboard, the lessons were much more interesting.
For example, one student stated, "It makes me pay attention to the teacher more. When the teacher
just stands up there and talks, I get easily distracted (Beeland Jr., 2001)."
3. Does having the opportunity to touch and interact with the board affect your learning? Why or
why not?
"All students responding to this question, except one, mentioned that the use of touch affected their
learning in a positive way. One student stated, "Yes, I get into learning when it's hands–on. When I
just listen, I don't understand as well." Other students mentioned that touching the board made their
learning experiences more fun and interesting. One student did comment, "It really doesn't do

The Interior: Arcade and Snack Bar
As we waited, we walked into the arcade and snack bar area. The lighting was very dark and it was

College Education : Should Be Free
A College Education: Should be free In the United States of America, College education should be
universal and free for all students. According to the department of education, the statics show that at
least $60,000 graduate college student will be in debt after coming out of college, and if these
college graduate attended an Ivy League even more will increase up to up ward of $100,000 in more
debt even before these students get their first job. For these young college graduates, will have to
worry not only because they have to find a job in six months, but this will also create a burden in,
which the students knows that they only have a short period of time to star paying back the loans in
couples of thousands dollars a month. The majority–working people, found themselves not able to
afford their own home, children, and bills. That's why most college graduate end–up moving back to
their parents home back again. For the young college education goers, one thing is their mind? One
was giving the educational right to attend public schools, and the right to a free education to go

School Dynamics, Classroom Environments, And Teaching...
My field experience was at Port Chester High School and Preston High School. During my
observations, I was able to examine the many differences that exist in school dynamics, classroom
environments, and teaching strategies
Port Chester High School is a comprehensive high school that houses grades 9–12 with 1,319
students enrolled. About one–third of the students are current or former English Language Learners.
The schools culture diversity is comprised of over 28 nations, 75 percent are Hispanic, 16 percent

At Port Chester High School, I observed an 11 grade US History class with Mrs. Sandoval. The
classroom contained 22 students. Mrs. Sandoval was patient and seemed to motivate her students.
She was very organized and made sure that every student was engaged and remained on task. What
really impressed me about the class was her easy rapport with the students. Mrs. Sandoval explained
to me that a goal she sets for herself as an educator is to build the student–teacher interrelationship,
established on trust and fairness. According to Sadker and Zittleman (2013), often the successful
teachers are the ones that enjoy managing and motivating people and are often found to have a
pretty good sense of humor. Mrs. Sandoval feels when she jokes around or is playful with the
students they respond better. She feels that it creates a more comfortable learning environment. As
per her students, she is viewed as the "cool teacher", because of this they often try not to disappoint
her. In essence, she is able to deliver the lesson and still maintain a high level of accountability.

Online Dating Narrative
During my sophomore year of high school, there was this boy in my math class named Preston

me his athletic skills and his gentlemen ways of treating a girl properly. I was interested in him but I
never admitted my feelings because I did not feel ready dating him.
Three years later to senior year of high school and a total of three rejections, he still never gave up. I
officially decided to date him and we were closer than ever. We were the

Four Period School Day Controversy
After a schedule change, students and teachers have been having controversy about a four–period
and eight–period school day. After two years of the new schedule, although calmed down
somewhat, the controversy continues. An eight–period school day (traditional schedule) seems to be
far outweighed by a four–period school day (block schedule). A four–period school day provides
academic, educational, and emotional benefits when compared to an eight–period school day. A
typical eight–period school day would have eight forty–seven minute long classes with a thirty
minute lunch and five minutes between each class period, lasting the whole school year (7). A
typical four–period school day would have four ninety–two minute long classes with a thirty minute
lunch and seven minutes between each class period (7). The first four classes go from the middle of
August to around the middle of January, then the next four go from the middle of January to the end
of May. At Preston High School students and teachers were surveyed on stress levels from each
schedule. They were also surveyed on which schedule they thought was more effective for learning.
A consensus between all of the students and teachers agreed that the block schedule was more
effective for learning (8). They also all agreed that an eight period day proved significantly more
stressful when compared to their amount of stress in a four period day (8). A block schedule is very
beneficial if it is properly implemented.

Homework Is Too Much Homework
Starting in Preschool, students experience the responsibility of completing homework. Whether a
student is memorizing the alphabet, completing multiplication worksheets, writing poems and
essays, or completing pre–calculus problems, homework consumes much of their time. As time
progress homework is becoming more of a burden to students. As children become older and life
becomes more hectic, they cannot find enough hours in a day to correctly and fully complete their
homework. Because of this, students can possibly fall behind in school and homework quickly
becomes useless. Students of all ages are assigned too much homework. Homework consumes too
much of a student's like and leaves no time for the more important aspects of life. In the article Too
Much Homework written by Professor Carol Huntsinger, which gives insights from a book called

My Experience In My Life
Well, where do i start? The environment i grew up in was not a fun one. I was born in San Antonio
and lived in Boerne until i was about 7–8 months old. My grandparents then bought a 15 acre

Elementary. Mrs. Payne was my Pre–k teacher. She helped me alot in that year. She sent me home
with books because i was already reading. Throughout my elementary years i was a good smart kid.
I had a few bad times but i was a good kid. I played baseball with a lot of kids that still go to this
school. Baseball was my life. I loves playing it. I still do. Around my 1st grade year is when my
parents started having problems. When i was 8 years old, the summer before my 2nd grade year, my
parents got divorced. Elizabeth, my mother, took me and my sister chloe and we lived in Heritage

Elizabeth. Daniel was a good guy. He loved Chloe and me a lot. The summer before my 4th grade
year we moved to Helotes. I attended Kuentz Elementary for two years. My best friend there was
Jeremy Leal. He lived down the street and we played basketball everyday after school. I attended

Essay On Fairly Price For Free College
A Costly Price For Free College A world where currency is obsolete, everything is without a price,
and every action has no reaction. What may sound like a dream now could possibly be the future for
our families. A world where our children let their college degrees wither away while they work a
minimum wage job because that was all that was hiring. A world where the American economy
drives into the ground because we are drowning in national debt faster than anyone can bail the

Once every individual is given a college education, the job search becomes more vigorous and will
thus prohibit many from getting a job. The amount of students that will not be able to use their
college degree in the real world, provided if college is free, is unfathomable. "Those lucky enough
to graduate face another hurdle: 44 percent of recent college graduates occupy jobs which do not
require a college degree. Taken together, these numbers suggest that only one–third of college
enrollees emerge from the system with both a degree and a relevant job" (Cooper). Moreover,
Cooper explains that students will have limited job opportunities if there is too much competition in
their desired field. Consequently, it now becomes a rarity for a student to pursue and achieve the
exact career of which they desire when the competition escalates dramatically. Not every person can
be a doctor, not because they do not have the capability, but because America does not need that
many doctors. If all colleges and universities were free, the amount of people attending would
significantly increase, causing the already intense career–competition to become notably more
competitive as well as increasingly more difficult. Branching off from the concept of over–crowding
the playing field, the increase in college diplomas would significantly decrease their value. Preston
Cooper perfectly explains this in his article "The Problems Free College Won't Solve":

Mise-En-Scene in Napoleon Dynamite
In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder)
is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character; they are
the primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in
the film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s).
This effect is achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess utilizes in order
to bring out Napoleon's persona in ways other than simply "guessing" who he really is. Rather, these
techniques "explicitly imply" certain character traits; they are like clues that allow one to see the
character just as the creator intended. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This not only shows his weakness as a person, but his immaturity as well, considering that high
school students typically do not resort to this sort of behavior; it is normally reserved for younger
children. He is a figure of mockery to nearly everyone at school, his uncle Rico, even his own
brother Kip. Albeit he hardly tries to defend himself, he does attempt to make up for it by trying to
look cool, but in extremely ineffective ways. The initial instance of this phenomenon of Napoleon's
is when he first meets Pedro. He brags that a gang at his school wanted him to join (specifically for
his "bow staff skills"), which is almost certainly not true. Also, he tells Don a ridiculous, overly
exaggerated story when he went to Alaska the previous summer. He claims that he went wolverine
hunting with his uncle, and "shot like fifty of em". Either there is an entire flipside to Napoleon's
character that is never revealed, or he is embellishing a story that may not even exist in the first
place. The latter seems like a much more reasonable conclusion.
Not only does he fail to seem cool to the people at school, but he does not exactly have the best
skills in picking up women. In more blunt words, he is just not very smooth. One example of this is
when he talks to Deb in the cafeteria, and uses the corny pickup line, "I see you're

Philosophy of Education Essay
Philosophy of Education
One of the most privileged professions in the world today is teaching. Teachers can influence the
youth of a culture in a way no one else can. Teachers have the honorable responsibility of education.
Students develop mentally, socially, and ethically within the realm of academic education. While in
this critical stage of development, students are given the laboratory of the classroom to test
themselves in ways that are more risky after graduation. Teachers play a crucial role in this
laboratory. I believe that the most important way I can serve my students while fulfilling this role is

I will treat these students as if they will eventually change perspectives, even if they never do.
Treating all students with respect, I believe that having high expectations and recognizing each
student's positive potential will contribute greatly to the students I teach.
My performance as a teacher is also very important. I believe in continually reflecting on my
teaching practices and improving them as I accommodate to each new class. My teaching habits,
such as organization, consistency, and effective classroom management, will always need to be
revised and improved to create the best classroom learning environment. Meeting national, state,
regional, and school academic standards are also very important to me. As an employee of the state,
I feel obligated to do my best to teach the required knowledge effectively, through creative activities
that are accommodating to all learners. I hold a very high standard for myself professionally, and
hope to constantly improve my teaching strategies through reflection.
Through literature, students can be empowered with the knowledge that no one person could teach
them. Knowledge gained through literature not only prepares students to live in a world where
reading and writing proficiency are required for success, but also helps students mature emotionally,
mentally, and socially. Through the middle and high school years, students

Once my brother graduated high school, my mother moved 500 miles away, to Connecticut. I
decided to remain at home in West Virginia with my father. For various reasons, such as drugs and
alcohol, living with him was no longer in my best interest. At this time, I was half way through high
school. For a few months, I spent time living with friends. Before long, my grandmother, who I'm
not particularly close to, graciously allowed me to live with her. She lives below the poverty line. In
order to live in her house, I was driven to support myself. I work between 20–30 hours a week,
which allows me to pay for bills, my vehicle, food, and etc. As soon as I graduate, I will be living on
my own, and paying for my college tuition, by myself. It is difficult now to make ends meet, and in
the coming college year the financial difficulty will greatly increase. I am endeavoring through these
hard times, and I will only continue to do that by keeping my grades up as well as having the

Senior Portfolios In High Schools

  • 1. Senior Portfolios In High Schools High Schools throughout the country have different graduation requirements for their seniors. At Preston High School, a senior portfolio is a requirement to graduate. For the portfolio, students must collect all of their accomplishments and report cards to place into a binder. The binder will then be presented to employees of businesses. Another example of a graduation requirement would be community service. For example, Maryland schools require 75 hours of student service. Based upon research, some experts say that community service should be voluntary; however, it gets students involved in the community, allows for better schooling, and gives students a better work experience. First of all, senior portfolios only expand upon the students themselves. Community service allows students to get involved with their community. Technically, the community helps pay for schooling, so it would be nice for the students to reciprocate by contributing to their hometowns. Students could get involved and contribute by picking up trash around the streets, or volunteering at the local food drive. By doing so, the teenagers will get to know the people of their community. They will also gain a knowledge of important town events such as the food drive or the community festivals. In addition, the students will learn about the community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scholarships are essential to students for college, and there are no scholarships offered to students for their senior portfolios. However, hundreds of scholarships are offered for community service. There are specific scholarships given out to students who complete a certain amount of community service hours. Also, several scholarships look at the student's community involvement to help them decide who the recipient is. Furthermore, colleges will also look at the student's community service hours. The service hours will help students get accepted into their desired ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. African Americans In Football When/Why African Americans Played in the NFL In the NFL's first fourteen seasons, a grand total of thirteen African Americans got to play football professionally. In 1920, only two black men played, then nine in 1925, but back down to two in 1933. To play football professionally, an individual had to attend college where he would have played football for his school, and once his college career came to an end, he would either be put onto a team, or start a different career. If an African American came from an upper–class family, which was totally possible, and had a passion for football, he would attend college and play college football until the time of his graduation where we a pro team could pick him up. A man by the name of Joe Lillard got ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many African Americans did not even have the chance to get a proper high school education either! African Americans who were too poor to pay for a college education, never got the chance to play professional football. However, no African Americans played in the NFL from 1934 to 1945 whether they attended college or not. A man by the name of George Preston Marshall is to blame for that. Marshall was the founder of the Boston Redskins, and was the one who proposed NFL for separate divisions and a championship game. Marshall also persuaded NFL owners that by not signing black players, just like what was happening in the MLB, would make the public see football as a "major league" sport. Every NFL owner at the time thought Marshall's statement was correct and continued thinking that way for an additional eleven years! The Redskins however continued to do so up until 1969 which made them the very last NFL team to sign an African American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Personal Narrative: How Society Shaped Me Personal Narrative: How Society Shaped Me What is society and how did it help shape me into the person I am today? First, society is the state of living in organized groups of people. These organized groups of people are the ones that made me who I am today and will continue to shape me, as I grow older. My version of society is white middle class people who grow up going to catholic schools. These white middle class people are only associated with other white middle class people, and very seldom venture out of this little society. As stupid as that sounds to not associate with other people it is true. The reason this is true is because of where I live, where I go to school, and who my friends are. I guess it is just like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our community was like the one Timothy Egan described by saying, "Americans long have had gated communities," because it was as if we were cutting of the black community from entering in with us. I feel that hindered my development as a child. I got no real experience of the outside world. There was no diversity in my life; it was like I was blind to all other things outside of the white middle class community. With that being said I still think my neighborhood helped me grow into a better man be engraving in my head good morals. Ever since I was a little kid the catholic laws or morals have been put into my head and have helped me become a better person. The people that drove these morals into my head were my friends and family. So that brings me to my second social force. I feel my friends and family have had a good influence on my life. They have influenced me a great deal. I tie friends and family into one group because I feel they both did the same thing for me, and I see my friends as a family and family as friends. My friends, although they have changed a ton in my life, have been great in helping me in my development. They have helped me a great deal in my life but they were the ones who first started me drinking and using tobacco. So I guess they weren't always good. But I don't think anyone can go through life without friends to help them along the way. You always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this final paper we will see how they were trapped, and what they done to be released from their caged life. You will see how Amanda lives in the past, Laura lives in her own little world, Tom is living for the present and looking for the best way out, and Jim O'Conner is trying to become someone famous.. Have you ever felt like a caged bird? I have! When I lived at home I had a very strict father. Every scenario went through my mind on how I could get out of my dad's house. Just like me, the characters in this play felt the same way. Amanda, a nagging mother, who wants the best for her children, Laura is in her own world, Tom wants to be free, and Jim O'Connor who was trying to better himself. These are the characters in the play try to escape their reality in many different ways. Amanda, a mother of two, lives in a house in St. Louis. She only wants the best for her children, but she is an overbearing parent. She holds splendid qualities but her personality is of a difficult obstacle to sympathize (Fambrough, Preston) 2005. She would even take on a job of selling subscriptions of the Home–maker's Companion, so she could get extra money to help support the family. • 6. The Debate On College Tuition Essay The Debate on College Tuition In our country, several young students in pursuit of a higher education, must work overtime at the local McDonalds, flipping burgers, to pay for their college tuition; while trying to juggle school work and study time during their limited free time. Meanwhile these students live in a country who has buried itself trillions in debt with no end in sight. Sadly, this is the environment that sets up the impassioned debate on whether college tuition should be free in our country. In terms of the free college tuition argument, those in favor of free college tuition focus on the benefits of a more accessible higher education; whereas those in opposition point out the issues a free college will cause a financially strained nation. Free college supporters often point out that United States can afford to pay the tuition for every student. Preston Smith and Sharon Szymanski argue in their article, "Why Political Scientist Should Support Free Public Higher Education", "Free tuition at all public colleges...is economically feasible." Smith and Szymanski go on to state, "tuitions and fees at all four–year and two year degrees...totaled just over 59 billion dollars, only 5.6% of our federal budget" (Smith, Szymanski). Smith and Szymanski are pointing out that college tuition is not a huge sum compared to other government programs like the military's 396 billion budget, and with proper accounting free college tuition is perfectly possible. • 8. The Team Essay That season had its ups and downs and despite a range of running abilities, every one of them worked diligently to maximize their individual potentials. The one thing that they had brought along for me from the previous team's mentality was the mantra that above all else, "the team came first." It was a mindset that I had hoped would exist and one that would provide a strong foundation in the coming years, both in cross country and track. As the season progressed, the confidence level rose and the team's success did as well. The dividends of a more sensible training program were also evident as everyone on the team continued to improve and became more and more accepting of these new training ideas. So much so, that during the middle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With only three runners that could finish near the top ten or twelve finishers, I knew unless the rest of the team, who had never experienced the pressure of running in a state championship could run over a minute faster than they had all year, we were unlikely to finish in first place. Nonetheless, that didn't prevent me from looking to the future. For the top three runners, I set up a race plan as if they actually had a chance to win the team title. I wanted them to mature and have the experience of battling with the race leaders, so that next year, competing in a state championship was almost like second nature. For the other three people on the team, I set up a plan for them to hopefully run their best times of the year with absolutely no mention of winning the team championship. In the back of my mind, I was also looking at gaining them experience with handling the pressure of that level of competition. The results went about as planned. The top three runners for the team finished in 9th (Billy Preston), 10th (Brian Laguerre), and 11th (Mike Charron) while two of the other three set PR's for the distance. The team finished in third place which immediately became the team's motivation for the following year. The other motivation to achieve future success occurred for me during the pre–race warmups and became my own personal incentive. It is also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Literature Review Literature Review Schools can be understood as reproducing social class or as helping to shape a more equal society. The social class is highly relevant in contemporary Australia and is an issue that deserves much more focused attention in public policy, particularly relating to education. The schooling systems of public and private schools in Australia have evolved immensely as a result of policies that were enacted as being part of Australian history. In terms of school choice, 'research indicates that there is a major relationship between schooling and social class inequality' (ANU, 2015). The former Prime Minister, Julia Gillard set up a major review called the Gonksi review, creating the 'needs–based' funding (Gillard, 2017). The review was established to develop a funding system for Australian schooling which is 'transparent, fair, financially sustainable and effective in promoting excellent outcomes for all Australian students' (Gillard, 2017). This involves every school sector receiving a certain amount of resources to bring all Australian schools to equal resource standard. To measure its effectiveness, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, (ACARA) has developed an Index of Socio–Educational Advantage (ICSEA) for the purpose of making comparisons between schools (2017). The results show a high correlation between educational advantage and higher earnings. For instance, the My School website represents a great deal of socio–educational ... The Pursuit For Happiness : The Positive Aspects Of Happiness Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American poet, essayist, and lecturer once stated, "For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness." Time is limited, so during one's time alive, obtaining happiness should be the ultimate goal. People are on a constant hunt for happiness. For some, happiness can be obtained through small gestures such as a simple "hello". For others, they the prowl for a little taste of what being happy feels like. Happiness is an emotion one experiences by their attitude, living in the Zone, and doing what one loves. People who see the glass as half full always seem to be the people that others want to be around. Why is this? Having a positive attitude attracts people. The first day of sixth grade turned out to be one of the scariest days of my life. New faces emerged around me. As I walked into the gymnasium, where we were required to sit before school, I remember looking for my friends. Throughout the whole gym, not one face did I recognize. Who should I sit by? As I was scoping out an area to sit, a hollering of laughter came from the top row of the bleachers. I walked up the bleachers and took my seat next to the boy who seemed to be the one everyone wanted to talk to. As I sat, he looked at me. Politely, he smiled, reached his hand out for a high–five, and said, "What's up, my name is Luke." Luke went on to become one of my best friends. • 11. Analysis Of Annette Lareau's Unequal Childhoods After reading Annette Lareau's book, "Unequal Childhoods", I gain a better understanding of how my childhood affected the person I am today and the person I will become. This book categorizes Americans in classes of poor class, working class, and middle class; Lareau studies multiple families in each of these classes, including different races. In the following essay, I will apply the same concepts Lareau used in her book to my own life. Daily Life My Mother, Dawn, grew up in a working–class family with her parents separated and trying to make ends meet with her Dad and two siblings. She graduated high school and went on to work at McDonalds for a few years, before she got married. My father, Jerry, grew up poor moving different houses every year with his mom, step dad, and five other siblings. His father died when he was three and his step father died when he was about thirteen. Jerry dropped out of high school without completing the ninth grade so he could work to provide for his mom and other siblings. Dawn and Jerry married and had their first child in 1988, a daughter named Brittany. In the same year my family moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in the town of Okalona, right by the busy streets of Preston Highway and Outer Loop. The house is brick and was built in the early 1940's, it is two stories with four bedrooms and two baths, with two garages, a swimming pool, and big back yard, the house sits on .94 acres of land. Jerry worked as a painter in the union since he was 16 and always had the aspirations of owning his own business. Dawn stayed home to care for the home and the children. Two years after Brittany was born, they had another daughter named Ashley in January of 1990. At this point Jerry was still working at the Union as a painter and was attempting to start his own painting business. In 1993, Jerry was contracted with a construction company building 20 new houses a year, this was the start of his painting company. All through the 90's and early 2000's Jerry and his paint crew were working seven days a week painting store after store and house after house. He had three work vans and two nine–man crews going non–stop. This is what led the family's social class to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In November, the winter uniform was being worn by the boys attending Archbishop Kurtz. Mise-en-Scene in Napoleon Dynamite Essay Mise–en–Scene in Napoleon Dynamite In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character; they are the primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in the film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s). Additionally, considerable portion of the significant sound in the film occurs in the music. The most blatant effect of the music is the cheesy MIDI arrangements. These outdated compositions portray the tackiness of Napoleon; he and the music are clearly out of style. One of the crudest examples of this is when Napoleon buys his suit; the muzak in the background is as unbearably corny as Napoleon's taste in clothing. Albeit music is a fundamental factor in Napoleon Dynamite, it is not the only element of sound that is relevant. The sound effects in the film also give clues as to what kind of person Napoleon really is. One supporting example is when he is eating "tots" in the middle of class. The unnecessarily loud crunching noise portrays his manifest lack of craftiness and style. There was one audio technique, however, that was extremely puzzling. In every scene inside a house, there is a very subtle background of birds chirping. This emphasizes the fact that Napoleon lives a rural community, rather than a busy suburb or city setting. This sound is extremely understated, however, and is obviously intended to be a subconscious feature to the viewer. The escalation of the affordability of seeking a higher education is a modern day crisis! Degrees are viewed as a requirement for a numerous amount of jobs even though one is not guaranteed work in that field. Compared to other countries around the world, America has been gradually dwindling down the ranks in student's standardized test scores in subjects taught in school. Why has this become a trend? At Port Chester High School, I observed an 11 grade US History class with Mrs. Sandoval. The classroom contained 22 students. Mrs. Sandoval was patient and seemed to motivate her students. She was very organized and made sure that every student was engaged and remained on task. What really impressed me about the class was her easy rapport with the students. Mrs. Sandoval explained to me that a goal she sets for herself as an educator is to build the student–teacher interrelationship, established on trust and fairness. According to Sadker and Zittleman (2013), often the successful teachers are the ones that enjoy managing and motivating people and are often found to have a pretty good sense of humor. Mrs. Sandoval feels when she jokes around or is playful with the students they respond better. She feels that it creates a more comfortable learning environment. As per her students, she is viewed as the "cool teacher", because of this they often try not to disappoint her. In essence, she is able to deliver the lesson and still maintain a high level of accountability. At Preston High School, I observed Mr. Carneiro 's 10th–grade Global History 2 class. The classroom contained 18 girl students. I observed Mr. Carneiro to be effective and engaging. The girls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Online Dating Narrative During my sophomore year of high school, there was this boy in my math class named Preston Brown. The bell rang and dismissed the class, I got up from my desk and saw him smiling down at me. He asked for my number and we both exchanged it, I could tell he fell accomplished because his friends were cheering for him. Months later, he tried to make me interested in him by showing me his athletic skills and his gentlemen ways of treating a girl properly. I was interested in him but I never admitted my feelings because I did not feel ready dating him. Three years later to senior year of high school and a total of three rejections, he still never gave up. I officially decided to date him and we were closer than ever. We were the "it" couple in high school and still to this day, him and I do not know why. He gave me dumb excuses but I did not believe him, so I did not talk to him until the winter break was over. Finally, winter break was over and it was time for school. During the morning time, everyone from the school goes to the cafeteria to eat breakfast or just to talk to friends before class starts. When I walked in, I saw everyone looking at me and wondering to myself that everyone knows the knew. There was an open table and I decided to sit there and wait for Preston to come. • 30. Four Period School Day Controversy After a schedule change, students and teachers have been having controversy about a four–period and eight–period school day. After two years of the new schedule, although calmed down somewhat, the controversy continues. An eight–period school day (traditional schedule) seems to be far outweighed by a four–period school day (block schedule). A four–period school day provides academic, educational, and emotional benefits when compared to an eight–period school day. A typical eight–period school day would have eight forty–seven minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and five minutes between each class period, lasting the whole school year (7). A typical four–period school day would have four ninety–two minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and seven minutes between each class period (7). The first four classes go from the middle of August to around the middle of January, then the next four go from the middle of January to the end of May. At Preston High School students and teachers were surveyed on stress levels from each schedule. They were also surveyed on which schedule they thought was more effective for learning. A consensus between all of the students and teachers agreed that the block schedule was more effective for learning (8). They also all agreed that an eight period day proved significantly more stressful when compared to their amount of stress in a four period day (8). A block schedule is very beneficial if it is properly implemented. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fadden Award recognizes a student who has overcome physical adversity to make a contribution to his/her team. This award was established in 1966 to recognize the contributions of athletic trainer and friend of Harvard athletes, John P. Fadden. Todd Preston is the best representative of the intended spirit of this award. Todd's story not a unique one in the rise and fall of an athletes career that's marred by adversity, highlights and coming up just a little short. This kind of stuff went on everyday inside of Preston High school, but this school was all they had in the town of Rapid City and the people got used to it. It was a more southern town, located in Alabama. Many words can describe what goes on there; hatred, abuse, and slacking. But the school is not all bad, as they had good people there, but the kind of people that were bullied. You should have listened to me in the first place" said the fairy. "You were right all along. I'm an adult and have nothing to say for myself. But look at Carlos, he has everything; money, loved ones, and a nice life! Ugh why was I so stupid? Now I am the loser and Carlos is the great one." Karma is also one of my fantasies, as it is not real, but people still believe in it. Also, a talking fairy is another fantasy, as fairies are not real either. Lastly, the kid not being affected by the bullying of the popular girl, as this is unreal and any normal person will be affected by hurtful things or feel some type of way. • 33. Homework Is Too Much Homework Starting in Preschool, students experience the responsibility of completing homework. Whether a student is memorizing the alphabet, completing multiplication worksheets, writing poems and essays, or completing pre–calculus problems, homework consumes much of their time. As time progress homework is becoming more of a burden to students. As children become older and life becomes more hectic, they cannot find enough hours in a day to correctly and fully complete their homework. Because of this, students can possibly fall behind in school and homework quickly becomes useless. Students of all ages are assigned too much homework. Homework consumes too much of a student's like and leaves no time for the more important aspects of life. In the article Too Much Homework written by Professor Carol Huntsinger, which gives insights from a book called The End of Homework: How Homework Disrupts Families, Overburdens Children and Limits Learning , written by Etta Kralovec and John Buell, explains that a student's busy schedule along with immense amounts of homework takes away from the most important parts of life. In this article, Huntsinger explains how a student named Josh Preston has a full high school course load, attends meetings, participates in school activities, and also attends three hour swim practices in the evening. Huntsinger then goes on to explain that after coming home from practice at 7:30 p.m., Preston has to do almost four hours of homework which leads to him only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My grandparents then bought a 15 acre property in Harper. We then lived there, and still live there today. I started school in Harper Elementary. Mrs. Payne was my Pre–k teacher. She helped me alot in that year. She sent me home with books because i was already reading. Throughout my elementary years i was a good smart kid. I had a few bad times but i was a good kid. I played baseball with a lot of kids that still go to this school. Baseball was my life. I loves playing it. I still do. Around my 1st grade year is when my parents started having problems. When i was 8 years old, the summer before my 2nd grade year, my parents got divorced. Elizabeth, my mother, took me and my sister chloe and we lived in Heritage Oaks in Ingram. Elizabeth met a man named Daniel Franz. Daniel moved in with us and married Elizabeth. Daniel was a good guy. He loved Chloe and me a lot. The summer before my 4th grade year we moved to Helotes. I attended Kuentz Elementary for two years. My best friend there was Jeremy Leal. He lived down the street and we played basketball everyday after school. I attended Garcia Middle school for my 6th grade year. I was in percussion and most of my friends were too so i always had fun. I was usually 2nd or 3rd chair after Preston and Alana. What may sound like a dream now could possibly be the future for our families. A world where our children let their college degrees wither away while they work a minimum wage job because that was all that was hiring. A world where the American economy drives into the ground because we are drowning in national debt faster than anyone can bail the water out. Once every individual is given a college education, the job search becomes more vigorous and will thus prohibit many from getting a job. The amount of students that will not be able to use their college degree in the real world, provided if college is free, is unfathomable. "Those lucky enough to graduate face another hurdle: 44 percent of recent college graduates occupy jobs which do not require a college degree. Taken together, these numbers suggest that only one–third of college enrollees emerge from the system with both a degree and a relevant job" (Cooper). Moreover, Cooper explains that students will have limited job opportunities if there is too much competition in their desired field. Consequently, it now becomes a rarity for a student to pursue and achieve the exact career of which they desire when the competition escalates dramatically. Not every person can be a doctor, not because they do not have the capability, but because America does not need that many doctors. If all colleges and universities were free, the amount of people attending would significantly increase, causing the already intense career–competition to become notably more competitive as well as increasingly more difficult. Branching off from the concept of over–crowding the playing field, the increase in college diplomas would significantly decrease their value. • 36. Mise-En-Scene in Napoleon Dynamite In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character; they are the primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in the film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s). This effect is achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess utilizes in order to bring out Napoleon's persona in ways other than simply "guessing" who he really is. Rather, these techniques "explicitly imply" certain character traits; they are like clues that allow one to see the character just as the creator intended. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This not only shows his weakness as a person, but his immaturity as well, considering that high school students typically do not resort to this sort of behavior; it is normally reserved for younger children. He is a figure of mockery to nearly everyone at school, his uncle Rico, even his own brother Kip. Albeit he hardly tries to defend himself, he does attempt to make up for it by trying to look cool, but in extremely ineffective ways. The initial instance of this phenomenon of Napoleon's is when he first meets Pedro. He brags that a gang at his school wanted him to join (specifically for his "bow staff skills"), which is almost certainly not true. Also, he tells Don a ridiculous, overly exaggerated story when he went to Alaska the previous summer. He claims that he went wolverine hunting with his uncle, and "shot like fifty of em". Either there is an entire flipside to Napoleon's character that is never revealed, or he is embellishing a story that may not even exist in the first place. The latter seems like a much more reasonable conclusion. Not only does he fail to seem cool to the people at school, but he does not exactly have the best skills in picking up women. In more blunt words, he is just not very smooth. One example of this is when he talks to Deb in the cafeteria, and uses the corny pickup line, "I see you're ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teachers can influence the youth of a culture in a way no one else can. Teachers have the honorable responsibility of education. Students develop mentally, socially, and ethically within the realm of academic education. While in this critical stage of development, students are given the laboratory of the classroom to test themselves in ways that are more risky after graduation. Treating all students with respect, I believe that having high expectations and recognizing each student's positive potential will contribute greatly to the students I teach. My teaching habits, such as organization, consistency, and effective classroom management, will always need to be revised and improved to create the best classroom learning environment. Meeting national, state, regional, and school academic standards are also very important to me. As an employee of the state, I feel obligated to do my best to teach the required knowledge effectively, through creative activities that are accommodating to all learners. I hold a very high standard for myself professionally, and hope to constantly improve my teaching strategies through reflection. Through literature, students can be empowered with the knowledge that no one person could teach them. Knowledge gained through literature not only prepares students to live in a world where reading and writing proficiency are required for success, but also helps students mature emotionally, mentally, and socially.
