2018-2020 University If I get the grades that I want I
would like to go and study an
editing course at university. This
course is full time and would last
for 3 years, this will allow me to
learn the practical and academic
side of editing.
- During the first year, I
would be studying various
different topics within the
film industry. I will be
studying different aspects
of creating film but I would
like to focus on editing.
During my time here I will
create short films,
documentaries and other
different productions. By
studying topics like
analysis of the art of cinema
will allow me to understand
different genres in film and
television. I will also be
engaged in many different
projects that will allow me
to show off my skills as a
media student, these
projects can be approached
in different ways so it will
teach me how to work in
both theoretical and
physical sides of media
during the first year.
Therefore I will be able to
complete and accept jobs
that require a set of
different skills that I have
learned over my time at
university. In film
production and technology
it will allow me to explore
different aspects such as
editing, sound, camera
work, directing and
producing, before
specializing in editing. The

first year of university I will
be doing Audio Visual film
technologies, the evolution
of film technology, film
project managements,
applied film technologies
and post-production
technology for film. These
topics will give me the
required credit points for
the year; I will learn new
skills via these tasks.
- In the second year my
specialist area will be
editing and I will be able to
work closely with the
director, producer,
screenwriter and
cinematographer, this will
allow me to learn how to
work in large groups. Doing
this will help me improve
as an editor and improve
my communication with
other people during the
production of a project. In
the final year there are a lot
of tasks that need to be
done. The subjects I will
study are advanced film
technologies, short film
development, short film
production, film industry
practice and advanced
post-production technology
for film. I will work on
multiple short films that
will test my skills from the
previous years. Doing these
short films and productions
will allow me to learn new
collaborative skills and new
developing skills. Learning
theses things is good
because they can stay with
me from when I leave
university.

to prepare for what path of
career I want to take in the
future. I could go and do
work experience in other
companies such as BBC and
sky.
2021 Gap year This year I would go onto a gap
year and travel to different
destinations.
2022 Full Time Job-
Runner
After completing my course at
university I will have a show reel
of work I have created over my
time at university and also
includes projects I have created
out of university by myself. The
show reel will be created to show
employers my work and my skills I
have got. I will take on a job as a
runner and complete several roles,
this could be from running
errands, sending messages getting
props or even being a producers
assistant. Because I would like to
become an editor I would help and
become an assistant editor and
learn from a professional. From
being a runner I will be able to
observe professionals while
working, I will be able to
understand how different
professionals under a professional
environment and the structure of
the production across different
film and television. Whilst I’m
working as a runner I will learn
key communication skills and
organization skills, this can help
me in the real world where I go
out and look for a professional job.
I will also have the change to build
a network with other runners and
people on the same level as me
who may help me learn new skills
and I can teach them new thing
too, The can also recommend me

2023 Full Time Job-
Assistant
Editor
After being a full time runner, I
would have an understanding of a
professional working environment
and I would now look to become
an assistant editor. Using my
previous work and show reels I
may be able to impress employers
and others, this can convince them
to let me work in a company.
While persuading the job of an
assistant editor I would be
working closely with a
professional editor, this will allow
me to see and watch new things,
this will allow me to improve as an
editor for when I become a full
time editor. I will hopefully gain
many different skills as an editor.
The skills I would like to learn
from a professional are
Communication skills, planning
skills, decision making and many
more, learning these skills will
allow me to improve and become
better for the future. From here I
would have a lot of experience
within the film industry and I
would now be ready to enter a full
time career for an editor with
confidence to go off on my own as
a freelance editor.
My inspiration
Paul Hirsch has edited over 40 films, among them the first "Star Wars" written
and directed by George Lucas. He received an Academy Award in 1978 for the
empire strikes back. He was born o November 14th, 1945. After graduating from
Columbia he began to pursue a career in editing. In the late 1960s, while editing
trailers in NYC, he was introduced by his brother, Charles, to then unknown
filmmaker Brian De Palma. Their collaboration has created eleven feature films.
He spent part of his childhood growing up in Paris and is fluent in French, as well
as somewhat conversant in Italian and British. In 2005, he received his second
Academy Award nomination for "Ray", directed by Taylor Hackford. The various

genres in his resume include drama, action, horror, musical comedy, fantasy,
suspense, mystery and comedy.
He studied music at the High School of Music & Art in NYC. Paul Hirsch has
inspired me to become an editor because over the years he has created many
great projects and I would love to create the same type of content like he has
done. I am also a huge fan of star wars, this just makes me more inspired by him
because he has edited one of my favorite film of all time. HE has created many
fun and exciting movies.
He inspires me to make different kind of work with a twist. Such as star wars it
started out not being the most liked film and it didn’t do that well but now years
later it is one of the biggest films in the world, this is because Paul Hirsch never
stopped trying and even at first he thought he didn’t succeed, this didn’t stop
him, he still made many other film that ended up doing great. At a later date star
wars became such a good film and it was one of his first productions. This
inspired me because it shows never to give up.
