4. INTRODUCTION
When Nikola Tesla dreamed of his vision of the
electrified future Once his vision began to take form he
started to understand the dangers that it can present.
During this time others were also experimenting with
electricity . The first commercial DC power system was
installed in September 1882 by Tesla’s rival Thomas
Edison. This system was comprised of a 100kW generator
and enough energy to power 1500 incandescent lamps
although it only lit up 50 lamps at the beginning.
5. The event quickly highlighted the dangers at play when using electricity. This
demonstrated the need for a safe standard method of install. By 1895 there were 5
different code books around. The need for a single document became obvious and
the National Electrical Code was developed. During this time the battle to prove
each type of electrical system dangerous was in full swing. DC was near useless
according to Tesla for distribution and his AC system was the solution. Edison was
out to prove AC was extremely dangerous and could not be trusted for use in
homes. . Electrical safety would be paramount in its success.
6. APPROACH AND METHODS
Nikola Tesla became aware of the dangers of electricity after
experimenting with it and was not shy about warning people of its
lethality.
A merchant who died from accidental contact with electrical current. This
accident was telegraphed all over the country
7. TESLA’S INSTRUCTION
Tesla demonstrated to the crowds how when handled safely he could pass
250,000v through his body without harm.
These demonstrations Tesla was always explaining why he was able to do this.
This was another method and opportunity used to educate the public on
electrical safety
Tesla explained it would be perfectly safe to touch a live object provided the feet
did not touch the floor or the latter was of some insulating material.
8. If the floor were iron or some other kind of conductor there would be the necessary
path to ground to conduct current through the body.
Tesla felt that the great minds in the world of electrical will always be seeking to
minimize the dangers of electricity. This thought was correct as we still strive to
minimize or eliminate the dangers of electricity to this day.
Some of the great minds in our world went on to develop better designs of
installation further reducing the danger.
9. Porcelain insulators were then developed with special coatings that could handle up
to 22,000V. This made the electrical system safer for the lineman and public.
These insulators also allowed for longer transmission lines reaching further and
further from the powerhouses.
10. ELECTRICL SAFETY
Even as the industry aged more electrical safety education and information was
discovered. One example is the understanding of grounding used for protection
during work.
11. TESLAS THEORY
The Earth had “fluid electrical charges” running beneath its surface, that
when interrupted by a series of electrical discharges at repeated set
intervals, would generate a limitless power supply by generating immense
low-frequency electrical waves.
12. USES
Used today in radio and television sets and other electronic equipment. The Tesla
Coil is used to produce fantastic high voltage long sparking displays. It takes the
output from a 120vAC to a several kilovolt transformer and driver circuit and steps
it up to an extremely high voltage. Voltages can get to be well above 1,000,000 volts
and are discharged in the form of electrical arcs.
13. ADVANTAGES
CLEAN
ECONOMICAL
SAFE AND CONVENIENT SOURCE OF ENERGY
POLLUTION FREE POWER GENERATION
Edison’s direct current was more expensive and inefficient. The greater the
distance, the more energy was lost along the way. Tesla presented his own
system as an improvement: alternating current.
14. DISADVANTAGE
It is dangerous as they operate at such high voltages, because even
though there is a transformer, there is still the risk that the
transformer won’t work and this would cause a power surge in the
homes that the power is going to .
15. CONCLUSION
Based on the research here we can say Nikola Tesla played a
large role in inspiring and educating the people of the globe to
advance electrical safety. His large presence conveyed the
message that electricity is dangerous and deserves a large
amount of respect. His innovation in the science of electricity and
development of the same was a stepping stone for all after him.
His actions in constantly attempting to educate and inspire
