Different Times, Different Ideals The world is a very different place than it was 1,000 years ago. There was a time in our history that women were not
valued for anything other than their sexual function, and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism
also was commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time period is known as the Victorian Era. A very
widely known children's book today was actually written during this time period by J.M. Barrie – Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the
Victorian Era's socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting from the prevalence of these ideas at that
time, which are most certainly outdated and considered inappropriate for children in today's society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that

This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different sides of womanhood throughout the story. It
encourages the engagement between a mother–like figure and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave

For instance, when Tink plays the role of protagonist towards Peter by saving his life: " No time for words now; time for deeds;and with one of
her lightning movements Tink got between his lips and the draught, and drained it to the dregs" (121). Tink flew in front of Peter's lips before he

Fishing had never been a hobby until I considered until this past summer. Fishing has an importance that goes way back since my great grandpa

"Aren't you a little old for that?" "Isn't that for little kids?" "You need to grow up." There comes a time where everyone hears those words. It
normally happens when you get into high school. Teenagers try to ditch their childish image just as Miley Cyrus tried to ditch her Hannah
Montana image. Those young adults are trying to remove the "young" part and prove they are just adults. I never personally went through that

The instruction of this lesson took place in a 2nd grade Spanish dual language classroom. The total number of students that were present that day were
27 students. I videotaped two out of the three lessons taught, but decided to choose the first video because of the level of student engagement. The
video I chose is from the first minutes of the first lesson including the hook and it goes into the moment that students start carrying out their own
investigations through the construction and the creation of their own clay boats. Even before I asked the hook, the students were raising their hands,
which is common for them to do. What I feel I should have done was asked them to put their hands down and think for three seconds about the question
before they raise their hands. Something that I noticed that did work during the teaching of this lesson was manipulating the clay in front of them and
acting as if I going to drop it in. The students got very creative with some of the answers, but those are the answers that are worth jotting down as well
because that might be what other students are thinking.
Something that I didn't take into account right away was that not all students could see from where they were standing. Therefore, I'm glad my

Analysis Of The Movie Crash
In the movie Crash, the director Paul Haggis interweaves multiple connected stories about race, class, family, and gender in Los Angeles, California
after the 9/11 event. All the characters are shown to have life changing experiences with their conflicts of stereotypes, prejudice, and racism within a
span of 36 hours. This movie has won three Oscars and was deemed "expertly written" and "Best Picture Oscar–winner ... sprawling and ambitious,
episodic and contrived" by Cynthia Fuchs, a professional movie critic. So, how did this movie become so well–known and popular in the U.S., even
though there are already so many movies with similar themes?
According to K.M. Weiland, a prolific writer of books and audios records states that, "...the beginning of any good story is its hook," and that
"beginnings are the sales pitch for your entire story" (338). Within the first 5 minutes of Crash, this motion picture was able to hook the audience. "The
hook comes in many forms, but stripped down to its lowest common denominator, it's nothing more or less than a question" (Weiland 338). The
question that Crash used to hook its audience was by defining the conflict, creating a tone, and establishing a movement within the first few minutes of
the movie.
The movie begins with the introduction of Graham Waters, an African American detective in the Los Angeles Police Department, and his female
partner Ria that had just been rear–ended in a car accident. Ria, then exited the car to confront the woman who hit them, during which Graham was
seen rambling to himself during the scene. As she exits the car, she sees a Chinese woman named Kim Lee, Kim was a smaller woman with black
hair and a strong Chinese accent. In less than ten seconds after she left the car both women started to exchange racial insults to one another, each
blaming the other for the crash incident. Waters then exits the car himself and starts walking towards a police investigation crime scene. Where Waters
learned about a discovery of a dead body. As shown here, the conflict, tone and movement of the movie are already established.

A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost, unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially
true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin's (2005) essay, on Hemingway's
"Hills like White Elephants," lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader in the opposite direction Rankin would have
hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice
readers.
With the opening word "Although" (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this
complete though could be. With this lingering thought of "what" was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a
continuation of the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this magnitude, could become hesitant to
continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar's perspective is refreshing and at
par. But the little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful into reading a sentence with complex
composition of over 100 words. Additionally, the first sentence, a summation of multiple views could introduce a novice

Peter and the Star Catcher Peter and the Star Catcher is essentially a prequel to Peter Pan. It is the story of how Peter Pan, an orphan boy from
England, became the immortal boy who flies and lives on Neverland. Peter and his two friends; Prentiss and Ted; are taken on a pirate ship to
Neverland. However, things take a twist when the feared Pirate, Black Stache has found out about the treasure that is hidden on their ship, the Wasp.
This treasure is called Star stuff. Molly Aster, the daughter of Leonard Aster who is the ambassador of the Queen, is chosen to protect the Star stuff.
She meets Peter and the other orphan boys and has them help her protect the trunk. On the island, the natives capture them and attempt to feed them to

Especially during the scene in which they are all captured by the natives. It was super cool how they hid behind the natives, you couldn't even see
them switch from different sides of the theatre and dang it was snazzy! The costumes were also all good, especially the costumes of the native.
Everything looks like it took so much time and all the native costumes look so similar. I also really liked the set. I saw the Broadway version of
this show a couple of years ago, and this set was very similar, as were the costumes, especially of the natives. The most entertaining costumes,
however, were those of the mermaids. Smee's solo performance with the ukulele was especially entertaining. I also think they did an excellent job of
casting Black Stache's character. The guy who played him, Jack, was amazing at this role and very full of life. He was by far, the most amusing
character. Although they had very few pieces of music, they were very nice pieces and clearly
