Effectively reflecting on my own learning and my professional
practice has undoubtedly been an important area of focus for
me. However, I still feel that there are certain areas that I may
miss out during my reflections.
Learning Goals Proposal
Introduction
I am a daycare worker working with infants ages birth through
18 months. Having been in this profession for quite some time, I
have gathered the skills that are essential for providing
effective care of children whose parents (or other members of
the family) are not available to take care of them. I take care of
the children with respect to feeding, bathing, supervision and
monitoring of safety, organization of activities, as well as
6. watching for indications of the children’s development and
emotional issues.
Strengths
The areas of strength that emerged from the self-assessment
include my ability to communicate professionally with
stakeholders in my educational setting and my respect and value
of diversity in my educational setting. My strengths in this area
have been drawn from the course’s emphasis on effective
communication and respect for diversity if one is to attain
success in their endeavors.
Growth Opportunities
The opportunities for growth that emerged from my assignment
include my relative lack of awareness regarding multicultural
issues that impact students and my relative lack of information
as regards the manner in which cultural issues impact
curriculum, instruction, and assessment in educational settings.
My weakness in these areas is due to the fact that cultural and
multicultural issues tend to be quite complicated. As such, I
have always experienced challenges in my bid to attain a
thorough understanding of the vast range of issues that are
typically involved in culture.
Goal Statements
1. Improve my Location and Review of Scholarly Sources
2. Improve my Teaching Strategies to Create an Inclusive
Learning Environment for all Students
3. Attain Greater Awareness of Multicultural Issues that Impact
Students
Planning for Improvement
Actions to Address Goal 1
The use of scholarly sources is important for constructing a
comprehensive academic work. As such, it is imperative that
one demonstrate the ability to locate and review such sources.
To that end, I will restrict my database search solely to sources
that are peer-reviewed, examine the publication (for instance
the use of scholarly terminology, the date of publication, and
the presence of additional pages), and locate the official website
7. on the internet with the intention of ascertaining whether or not
it affirms that the source is peer-reviewed.
Actions to Address Goal 2
Without a doubt, being a good teacher entails having a vast
array of skills. In this way, one can see to it that an inclusive
learning environment for all students is created. To that end, I
look forward to improving my teaching strategies by
encouraging questioning, connecting concepts, teaching
problem-solving strategies, encouraging creative thinking,
encouraging learners to elaborate their answers, and using
graphic organizers. Certainly, these strategies have the potential
to make students more involved in the learning process, hence
ensuring that no one is left behind or excluded.
Actions to Address Goal 3
Cultural diversity is certainly an indispensable facet of the
education system. Thus, I intend to attain greater awareness of
multicultural issues that impact students by expressing an
interest in my students’ ethnic backgrounds, maintaining a
stringent degree of sensitivity to language issues, incorporating
strategies for self-testing, as well as maintaining an inclusive
curriculum that respects diversities.
Conclusion
Self-assessment is of the essence to understanding one’s
strengths and weaknesses on various fronts. More importantly,
the assessment enables one to come up with ways through which
they can ascertain strategies for improving their shortcomings
and strong points. Thus, I have managed to find out the areas in
which I need to improve so that I can attain success in this
course.
