4. STAGE
The stage overall was very well structured, vibrant , aesthetically pleasing
The gigantic books on stage to me foreshadows that the main protagonist Matilda enjoys books.
5. MATILDA SYNOPSIS
The play is about a knowledgeable and cunning little girl named
Matilda who loves to read books. Her family however is the exact
opposite, her parents and brother do not like to read and do not
connect to Matilda at all. At school Matilda deals with hardships from
the principal Miss Trunchbull but Miss Honey, Matilda’s teacher is
that shining beacon that gives Matilda hope. Through the series of
unfortunate events throughout the play, Miss Trunchbull is finally
defeated and Matilda finds a new home, Miss Honey adopts Matilda
and they live happily ever after.
6. PROPS
There was a scene
where the students
threw paper airplanes
when they were
revolting against Miss
Trunchbull and one of
them hit me in the face.
That was the most
unexpected part of the
play for me.
7. SPECIAL EFFECTS
The special effects used were outstanding and really set the tone of the stage. The lighting used when
Matilda was using her telekinesis to write the on the chalk board to scare Miss Trunchbull was haunting.
The lighting was a vibrant blue color as if you were in an underwater cave.
8. ANALYSIS
MUSICAL NUMBERS
The musical numbers would typically tell the thoughts going on in a characters mind or what was about
to happen next
For example: The children would sing “My mommy says I special” whereas Matilda would sing “My
mommy says I am……(insert bad quality trait)” This is a comparison between how normal children get
treated by their parents versus how Matilda gets treated by her parents
9. INTERPRETATION
Miss Honey and Matilda have similar qualities. Miss honey has also been through a lot when she was little
and Matilda is currently going through a lot and both are very bright. Miss honey did not have ambition
when she was young to stand up to the abuse whereas Matilda did have ambition to stand up, Matilda had
the quality Miss honey lacked, courage.
10. INTERPRETATION
The library scenes when Matilda would tell stories is different from the movie scene. In the play the
librarian would serve a listener whereas in the movie the librarian was more of a guidance. For example,
the librarian in the movie offered Matilda her own library card so she wouldn’t have to walk to the library
every day.
11. ANALYSIS
There was a reoccurring song in the play that really stuck with me, the song is called “Naughty” and to
summarize the lyrics it basically says that even though that life is not fair and you do not have to put up
with it, Matilda follows this throughout the play, when life treats her bad she finds a way to overcome it.
12. EVALUTATION
The play in general was a success! The characters especially the young children played their parts
accordingly and the woman who played Miss Trunchbull did a fantastic job because she really resembled
the Miss Trunchbull in the movie. The props used and the confetti cannons that were shot towards the
end were surprising and unexpected and truly made the play original, I will never forget attending this
play.
