Trailer: Eastenders (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qikidGJMEI)
The hero (Propp’s character roles theory) – In this
trailer there are two heroes however one of them
(Phil) is acting as the ‘donor’. The hero is acting as
the women only ‘appear’ which relates to the
theory ‘men act women appear’ (John Berger 1972).
The princess (Propp’s character roles theory) – In
this scene Louise Mitchell is seen in the background
being the pinnacle point of argument she is the
“happily ever after which the here requires”
(Vladimir Propp).
The donor (Propp’s character roles theory) – Near
the beginning of the trailer Phil Mitchell is seen
giving his brother ‘grant’ a baseball bat to utilize
when hunting down the ‘villain’. The villain is seen
here with a scared facial expression suggesting how
the villain struggles against the hero according to
‘Propp’s.
Men act
Women
appear
The villains scared and nervous facial
expression demonstrates how the
‘villain struggles against the hero’

The Punishment (Propp's Narrative functions theory) – The villain in this case
then suffers the consequences of there actions. The ‘hero’(Propp’s character
roles) has then completed his task (Phil) as the villain is then punished.
The Solution (Propp’s Narrative functions theory) – The hero then saves the girl
by ‘acting’ (John Berger 1972) against the villain who in this case is groping the
heroes daughter (Louise Mitchell). This is the solution as the hero has
accomplished this difficult task of getting rid of the villain.
The Struggle (Propp’s Narrative functions theory) – The hero and villain meet
and engage in conflict directly, either in battle or some nature of contest (as
stated from the internet). In this instance Phil the hero meets the villain and
confronts him in a physical contest.
4. Propp’s Character Roles
Emerdale 2014 trailer

The hero (Propp’s character roles theory) – within the 2014 Emerdale
trailer Robert and Andy the two protagonists compete in conflict. The
topic of the fight is over a girl who is sharing her love between two men
in this case. Andy is marrying Katie however Robert is trying to ruin that
relationship making Andy the direct hero (propp’s character roles)
trying to overcome the villain ‘creating a struggle’ for the hero (Andy).
The villain (Propp’s character roles theory) – In this scene Robert who is
portrayed as the villain is seen physically attacking Andy the hero
(Vladimir Propp). Therefore making him the evil character that creates a
struggle for the hero” (Vladimir Propp).
The princess (Propp’s character roles theory) – From my own
knowledge and hints from the trailer the two protagonist are competing
for the ‘prize’ (Vladimir Propp) which in this case is ‘The princess’ Katie.

‘STRUGGLE’ (Propp’s narrative functions):
The hero and villain meet and engage in conflict directly, either in battle or some nature of contest.
Andy and Robert meet and have one on one conflict, there is good and evil represented in this trailer as
Robert is trying to gain a sexual relationship with Katie who is marrying Andy, therefore creating a spark of
rivalry consequencing in fighting (struggle).
There is conflict between the two shown in this screenshot
‘WEDDING’ (Propp’s narrative functions):
Andy has married into Katie's family and has gain his respect in her family, however
in this trailer it is not sure weather or not Robert has ruined their chance of
marriage. This then goes on to leave the audience with a cliff hanger intriguing them
to watch the episodes on TV.
