World War Z, by Max Brooks, is often thought of as the gory recount of humanities quarrel with the
zombies, however these fictional episodes convey a deeper message about fear. World War Z sends a
message that is consistent with the ideas that fear may cause people to do things they would
otherwise condone, but oppositely fear is a barrier between rationality and insanity. Overall what
Max Brooks suggests about the nature of fear is that fear can twist human judgement and make
people do the unthinkable, but without fear people could become much more dangerous. Humans
should have some fear for it is one of the principle emotions of what it means to be human, and
without fear or too much fear we lose perception of our limitations, however denial is not the right
way to seem fearless or handle fear. In World War Z it is clear that whether it be a government, a
survivalist group, or a small military battalion, fear causes people to do things that they would
otherwise think is insane or immoral. One insight to this perspective is during a scene where the
commander of a U.S. battalion is punishing his group for disobeying orders. In this scene the man
being interviewed recounts his superior saying "'You spoiled children think democracy is a God
given right. You expect it, you demand it! Well, now you're going to get your chance to practice it."

Now with that easy one out the way, time for the real brain busting stuff. At the end out the second
movie and beginning of the third, Doc (Christopher Lloyd) gets struck by a bolt of lighting while
flying still in the air and gets sent back to 1855 while Marty is on the street and sees this happen and
is now stuck again in 1955. Right after that happens Marty gets a letter from Doc stating specific
intrusions on where he left the time machine hidden and how to fix it. Shortly after Marty finds out
that Doc was killed a week after he wrote the letter. Marty then decides to travel back to 1855 and
save Doc. In the process of going back to 1855 he cuts a gas line so now the Delorean has no gas
and Doc and Marty spend the rest of the third movie tiring to find a way to get the Delorean up to
88mph to be able to travel back home. Here is where there is three major plot holes.
The first one is if Marty and the younger Doc find out about older Docs death in 1955, wouldn't the
older doc already know about it? Yet in the third movie when Marty tells the older doc about this in
1855 he seems shocked as if he didn't already know about this in 1955. Second, when Marty travels
back to 1855 he cuts a gas line on the landing and now is stuck without any gas for the Delorean.
