traditional classroom, and for many reasons. Statistically, there are about 2.78% of children in the
United States being home schooled. California having the highest rates at 193,144 in the year of
2015, and Connecticut having the lowest rates at 1,792. (Zeise 1) Children seem to enjoy the aspect
of staying at home while getting their education, but are they seeing the big picture? Three major

Now many have their thought and opinions against what controls a child's happiness and their
emotions but according to studies "Homeschooled kids can dress and act and think the way they

Another effect that college can have on a student is the rigid schedule they now have to keep. Being
homeschooled, one may have many breaks throughout the day, days off, being able to hurry up and
be finished by lunch, and classes into the night if the student so chooses. Many homeschoolers may
feel overwhelmed at the drastic change in their schedule because no longer can they reschedule a
class for later that day, double–up if they get behind, or skip a class altogether without any major
consequences. In college, the student now has to appear in class each and every time, and if they
choose not to, they will be marked absent.

According to a magazine article written by Peterson, Paul E. "The Home–Schooling Special", he
writes that families believe their children will benefit from a curriculum chosen by the parent,

Home Schooling Is A Good Idea
You may be asking yourself, how did home schooling begin? What was it like? Well, in the 1970's
and the 1980's home schooling began to spark. A few parents question whether public or private
school was right for their child. They were thinking they could do a better job. Well, what do you
know; parents learned they could do a better job. However, some states, prohibited home schooling.
If parents or guardians were home schooling, they could face jail time as well as losing their
children to the courts. Some parents were being arrested and some were taken to jail
(Homeschooling: Getting Started). Even today we have people who are against home schooling.
Our President of the United Stated, Obama, he doesn't believe home schooling is a good idea. He
believes public school should start as soon as age 3. He also said that students in middle and high
school should complete 50 hours of community service before they are able to go to the next grade

Homeschooling Is An Adequate Form Of Schooling For College
Homeschooling is a type of education which typically occurs in the home with the child's parent or
guardian serving as the primary educator. Currently, homeschooling is legal in all 50 states and is
considered to be one of the fastest growing segments of K–12 education in the United States. In
2007, homeschooled students represent approximately 3 percent of children attending K–12 in the
United States (Cogan 19). Since homeschooling is outside the control of the traditional education
system, questions have been raised as to whether or not homeschooling can adequately prepare
students for a college environment and the rigors of college academics. One side of this argument
claims that homeschooling does not adequately prepare students for a college environment.
Supporters of this side believe that homeschooling isolates students from the outside world,
rendering them socially and educationally handicapped (Romanowski 125). Since their schooling
experiences are limited to their homeschool setting, they are at a disadvantage with their
postsecondary studies (Romanowski 127). The other side argues that homeschooling is an adequate
form of schooling for college preparation. I BELIEVE THAT HOMESCHOOLING CAN

The American Educational System is not what it used to be. Many people fear the falling standards
of the United States' public school system. What with the harsh social environment, the
controversial curriculum, the overpaid, corrupt teachers with their own agenda, and the exposure to

The answer as to why home–schooling is more harmful than helpful lies with the parents themselves
and their reasons for doing so. One of the main flaws with the Home School ideology is the
student's lack of social development. Now, there are some kids that are pulled from public schools
by their parents for the reasons previously listed so that their education may be furthered at home,
so, at the very least, they've had some exposure to the social element that public schools provide.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for those that have never actually set foot in a real school.
