2) HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
2. MY ARTIST: ICE TRIPP
My created artist Ice Tripp is a 17 year
old hip hop prodigy who has already
bad been critically acclaimed by some
of the worlds biggest artists. My artist is
similar to the likes of Danny brown,
Schoolboy q etc. My artist represents
the genre well, hip hop artists are often
known for being flash, wearing
jewellery and expensive clothing. I
have tried to make Lynden fit in with
this stereotypical image of modern
rappers in order to fulfil readers
expectations.
3. STYLE/ GENRE
• When choosing the style/genre of the magazine I was going to attempt I
had to carefully think about what buyers of the product would be
expecting. FADER is a magazine which I singled out for being the type of
magazine i wanted to emulate. This is due to it predominately being hip-
hop based aswell as having a very simple slick style to it. I also liked
how FADER covers mainly up and coming artists which are slightly
quirkier rather than ones who are already at the pinnacle of the industry
and are house hold names. As you can see from the pictures below the
layout for Fader was a heavy inspiration for my cover.
4. WHY I LIKE FADER MAGAZINE
• The magazine promotes future stars
and artists to look out for which gives
readers the option of checking out
the artists music and helping find
readers music they believe they will
appreciate. Therefore I followed
FADERS idea and filled my contents
with known names but that will only
be known if you are a fan of hip-hop
where as the likes of Drake, Kanye
West and Eminems music would be
familiar with the majority of young
people who follow other genres of
music.
5. TARGET AUDIENCE/ MASTHEAD
• My magazine is for big hip hop fans looking
to read about some of the favourite artists
aswell as being introduced to new ones. My
title of KONVICT is also closely linked with
the genre of music i have covered. The
stereotypical persona of hip hop artists are
that they are thugs and drug dealers. if you
define the word 'convict' it is "a person
found guilty of a criminal offence and
serving a sentence of imprisonment." The
idea of the masthead of my magazine
meaning this is a representation of the
stereotypical idea of hip hop artists being
criminals. I believe that is an appropriate
title and plays along with the persona.
