Introduction to the PACE Learning Program By Dr. Joseph Frey
1. Introduction to the PACE Learning Program
By Dr. Joseph Frey
Nearly all learning difficulties stem not so much from poor mental capacity but
from poor underlying learning skills. In fact, perhaps as much as 90 percent of
problems associated with learning can be attributed to challenges in six core
areas: attention, phonetic awareness, comprehension, memory, processing
speed, and visualization.
PACE stands for Processing and Cognitive Enhancement. The PACE program
entails a 12-week course to help children (and adults) improve their skills in
these areas. Rather than focus on improving specific academic skills, PACE
addresses more than 20 of the brain’s overall processing abilities. Once these
have been improved, academic learning advances naturally.
School officials and professionals regard PACE as one of the leading cognitive
training programs available today. It can be found in more than 350 training
locations, clinics, schools, and hospitals around the country.
