1. Why teach PDHPE in
Primary Schools?
PDHPE is one of the six key learning areas (KLA) in the
NSW primary curriculum. Unlike the other KLA’s
PDHPE develops students as a whole person.
2. PDHPE develops students:
• Wellbeing
• Socially
• Mentally
• Physically
• Spiritually
The knowledge, understanding, skills, values and attitudes they learn will
encourage them to lead healthy and fulfilling lives
3. PDHPE encourages physical activity
Inactivity in children has become a recent concern. PDHPE can encourage
children to become more active. Children being more active can improve:
• Cardiovascular efficiency
• Likelihood of heart disease
• Obesity rates
• Motor/movement skills
• Psychological health
4. PDHPE teaches much more than physical
activity
