The flag of Canada, nicknamed the Maple Leaf flag, was adopted as the country's national flag on February 15, 1965. It features a red field with a centered white square containing a stylized 11-pointed red maple leaf. The maple leaf came to symbolize Canada as the national flag replaced the Canadian Red Ensign which had been used since 1921.
