1. Performance, Narrative & Concept Music Videos
Performance
A performance music video is a clip that focuses on the band. They would film the band and
the members in ‘normal’ situations like a concert, park or socialising with friends etc. The
video would be of the group/band for the majority of the video. It will be quite cheap to make
a performance video as it is only the band being shown on film. For a performance video to
work the band will have to be well known otherwise this would not work as the audience
would not know who they are. It will also focus on them actually performing the song in a
concert or studio.

Narrative
Narrative music videos are videos that rely on imagery to present the song. The lyrics or
words would have to be acted out in some way, linking to the song. For example if someone
were to sing about school, a school would be shown with pupils acting. Actions on stage
would be dictated by the lyrics and words.

Concept
A concept video is based around an initial idea and the more obscure the better as it entices
the audience to carry on watching. The main purpose of a concept video is to keep the
audience entertained at all times and to give the audience something to look at whilst
listening to the music.
