1. Music Video Analysis: TNGHT – Bugg’n
These opening credits give the video a sense of recognition for the audience and a label that the consumer can
relate to. At the start of my video I will have title credits stating the song name and artist. I think this is a good
option as it gives me a chance to develop a design that will give my music video a certain style. I will do this by
first choosing a font that I think best fits, and then the colour scheme. I have not yet decided whether stick to my
existing colour schemeor create a new one for the themes of the video. In doing this it will enhancing my editing
and design skills. The text I chose will relate to my target audience as it will have conventions of electronic music.
Within the video there are various shots of abstract imagery. The fish do not fit into context with the video it is
just the director’s preferred style of obscurity. The second and third shots of the painting and eggs in a pan are a
very creative. It is a very good use of cinematography as it reflects the wet sounding style of music and the
movement is edited with to go with the sounds. I will use a shot similar to this in my video as I think that boiling
water looks very effective when there is music behind it. In some cases it fits in with the sounds you hear. The
fourth shot of the plastic balls gives vibrancy to the video. When I was watching Bugg’n it gave me ideas to take
shots of falling balls and play it back in revers as though they were floating. I will experiment with many different
shots to achieve my required piece of footage.
Similar to my other video analysis, I will attempt to capture footage from a live performance. However the one
featured in this video is on a much larger scale as it is in a large venue instead of a club. I will either have to stage
something similar to this or take a camera to an event that I attend. However this is a risky process and I may not
get the footage I require, this is an experimental part of my coursework as it may be something I never achieve.
The colours in these shots present the crowd as a vibrant youthful group of people. Representing the music genre
as lively and popular with the youth, as the people in the crowd are all teenagers.
