An Outreach of The Gathering Place Church
Fall Term (8 classes): Sept. 13 & 27; Oct. 11 & 25; Nov. 8 & 22; Dec. 6 & 13 (12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.)
Goal: To provide affordable, quality, fun-filled enrichment classes to children in the homeschool community.
Expectations: A cooperative effort on the part of area homeschooling families who desire to work with other homeschooling families to enrich
our children’s education. Classes are coordinated, supervised and led by homeschool parents.
Programs operate on a co-op basis and every adult is expected to be an active participant on a team (see options below) sharing input, ideas,
planning and presenting materials and assisting however needed.
When children are present, a parent from that family must also be present in the building.
Nursery (ages 0-3) (Choose “Nursery”): This is for the little ones that are not ready for the preschool classes.
Preschool (ages 3 -5) (must by toilet trained) (Choose “Pre”): Preschoolers will be engaged in a routine of art, gym, story time and more.
Elementary (grades K -3) (Choose “Early Elem”): Students rotate between 3 Classes (50 minutes each) Manners, Gym, and Sewing. * Please see
descriptions below.
Elementary (grades 4 – 6) (Choose “Upper Elem”): Students rotate between 3 classes (50 minutes each) Manners, Gym, and either Sewing OR
Science. * Please see descriptions below.
Middle School Students (grades 7 – 8) (Choose Group “Middle”): Students rotate between 3 classes (50 minutes each) Writing, Gym, and
either Sewing OR Science. *Please see descriptions below.
Class Descriptions:
Manners and Etiquette: The goal is to introduce all basic elements of this important life skill: proper introductions, handshake, basic
telephone skills, table-setting chart, and basic table manners.
Gym and Health/Wellness: Students will be provided with basic instruction in athletics and participate in a variety of wholesome
recreational games and activities.
Sewing and Crafts: Students will learn how to do simple repairs and replace a button; they will complete age appropriate crafts and sewing
projects.
Science: Using mostly everyday materials, students will conduct science experiments.
Writing: Students will read picture books in class as mentor texts to help them in their own writing. Short pieces of writing will be done in
class to practice new writing techniques. Students will be encouraged to bring mentor text sentences from their own reading and to try
techniques in their own writing at home. As this is an enrichment course, all work will be done and looked at in class.
