8. Context…
• In the previous chapter….
• God said to Jeroboam that he will split the kingdom, as Solomon’s heart
has turned away from God. Jeroboam was promised 10 tribes of the
Northern Kingdom, but the remaining 2 will be with Solomon’s heir.
9. What’s happening then?…
• Looking after the people of God: Responsibilities
• When you turn your heart away, you let go of God….(Solomon)
• Seeking advice
• When you lead, you take counsel…. (Rehoboam)
• Genuinely seeking wisdom
• When you take counsel, listen to God….
• Power hungry
• When you focus on yourself, you find trouble…. (Jeroboam)
God’s Leaders are to:
Listen to Him…. And serve…..
10. Today… How do we respond?
When you lead your FAMILY,
where do you seek counsel
from?
When you lead your CHURCH,
where do you seek counsel
from?
When you lead your TEAM,
where do you seek counsel
from?
12. What was the original issue?
Where was God in the whole thing?
13. Mark 10: 42-45
• 42 Jesus called them together and
said, “You know that those who
are regarded as rulers of the
Gentiles lord it over them, and
their high officials exercise
authority over them. 43 Not so with
you. Instead, whoever wants to
become great among you must
be your servant, 44 and whoever
wants to be first must be slave of
all. 45 For even the Son of Man
did not come to be served, but to
serve, and to give his life as a
ransom for many.”
14. How then shall we live?
Living in JOY!
Jesus first
Yourself last
Others in between….
Editor's Notes
We ourselves struggle with the purposes of life, our direction, our calling, our identity
How can God make use of us? We are not worthy…
OR
Why God doesn’t make us of me? The rest are not worthy….
