Sermon text Matthew 22:1-14
2. Matthew 22:2
• Just like the king arranged a marriage for his son, God has
arranged a way for us to pardoned from our sins (Romans
3:23-24; Galatians 3:26-29).
• The Word became flesh (John 1:14), lived a sinless life
(1 Peter 2:22; John 1:47) and then bore our sins in His
body (1 Peter 2:24)
3. Matthew 22:3
• Just like the king had servants to call those who are
invited, God has disciples who everywhere they go, sew a
seed (Luke 8:11) or tell the good news. (Titus 2:11-12)
• 2 Corinthians 4:5 For we do not preach ourselves, but
Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants
for Jesus sake. For
• Just like many refused to come to wedding, many will not
become Christians because of the pleasures of sin
(Hebrews 11:24-26) or they are waiting for some
convenient time (Acts 24:25). Ref. John 3:19-20
4. Matthew 22:4
• Just like the king is long-
suffering so is God.
• 2 Peter 3: 8 -13 …turn
with me please
• If we do not make the
kingdom of heaven it is
not because of God!
5. Matthew 22:5
• To make light or to pay no
attention (Gk. Ameleo)
neglect, disregard, or be
unconcerned about somebody
or something.
• Isaiah 65:2- I Have spread out
My hands all day long to a
rebellious people, Who walk in
the way which is not good,
following their own thoughts.
6. Matthew 22:6
• Acts 14:22 Strengthening the
souls of the disciples,
encouraging them to continue
in the faith, and saying,
“through many tribulations we
must enter the kingdom of
God.
• 1 Peter 4:16 Yet if any man
suffer as a Christian, let him
not be ashamed; but let him
glorify God on this behalf.
7. Matthew 22:7
• Hebrews 10:30 For we know
Him who said, “Vengeance is
mine; I will repay.” And again
“The Lord will judge His
people.
8. Matthew 22:8-9
• In order to be His disciple He
must come first!
• Luke 14:26- If anyone comes
to me and does not hate his
own father and mother and
wife and children and brothers
and sisters, yes, and even his
own life, he cannot be my
disciple.
• Acts 13:46…twmp….
9. Matthew 22:10-12
• The man without wedding
clothes is representative of a
person who “accepted the
invitation of the gospel, but
refused to conform his or her
life to the gospel.
• Some who profess to be
disciples of Jesus Christ will
not be prepared for the
judgment. (Ref. Matt. 7:21-23,
24:45-51)
10. Matthew 22:13-14
• Many may be used here as an
expression meaning all.
Ideally, the gospel invitation is
for all; it is universal in scope
(Matt. 28:18-20; Mk 16:15; Lk.
24:47)
• Titus 2:11 For the grace of
God that brings salvation has
appeared to all men.
