3. About …..
Moving on is a 2 minute short film based on two concepts of
cinema : British social realism and realism with fantasy
elements . The first part of the video is focused on a
contemporary lived experience from the protagonist.
The second part of the video, based on the re-appearance of
Jens dead husband giving her a reassuring message .
4. MISE – EN - SCENE
This is the main
protagonist in the
film- her costume
consists of a blue
hoddie and black
jeans. This type of
attire is
stereotypical for
teenagers
communicating
that this character
is a young
character or an
adult stuck in a
teenage mentality
The Red bow in her
hair is a
juxtaposition to the
rest of the dull
mise-en-scene.
The derelict
surroundings are
apparent to the genre
social realism
Her nail varnish
in the scene is
very gothic and
this
communicate
the characters
dark side.
5. MISE – EN - SCENE
This is a screen
shot from the
beginning of the
film, the candle
isn't alight
The rust and the grit also
make this look realistic
This is a screen shot from
the end of the film after
Jen had seen her
deceased husband.
This Mise-En-Scene enhanced
the story and communicated
that now that Jen has seen her
husband she is happier and
therefore her candle is lit
6. SOUND
The sound in the film is mainly dialogue between the two
girls. However there is music in the beginning and the
ending of the film. The beginning of the film opens with a
solemn sounding song. I think this represents sadness
and pain relating to Jen missing her husband who has
passed away. The song at the end of the film sounds
more upbeat and concludes the film on a happier note,
this signifies the mood change of Jen as she was able to
speak with her dead husband.
This is a screen shot of
Jens husband the
dialogue between these
two characters lighten
the mood and therefore
there is a change in song.
7. EDITING
This a screen grab of Jens husband,
he has been shown in a holistic light
to portray his character as a spirit or
a ghost. This was effective as the
audience were able to dibranchiate
this character type as dead
compared to the other who were
alive due to the editing and the use
of editing effect
8. CAMERA WORK
This is a screenshot from the film
demonstrating a high angle shot this
illustrates Jen as a vulnerable character
especially because her friend who is
condescending to her is shot from a low
angle making her look bigger and more
powerful.
This is an extreme close up of Jens hands
this not only establishes that she is a
smoker but also this highlights her social
status as the type of cigarette she is
smoking is typically associated with
working class.
