The Battle of Saratoga took place from September 19th to October 7th, 1777 in Saratoga County, New York. The Americans, led by Generals Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold, forced the surrender of British General John Burgoyne's army. This was a major victory for the Americans and prompted the French to ally with them against the British.
