Today in Science Matter Sorter Game
1. Today in Science
You will Need:
1)Pencil or Pen, Colored Pencils,
Calculator2)Definition of Matter Lab –- 2
pages 3 sides- Bookshelf
3)Staple to papers picked up Friday
and Monday. Total of 4 pages 6
sides
4)Oral Presenter – Log in to LP
2. Oral Presenter
• Go back to Learning Point and Select “MATTER SORTER”
game hyperlink
• Make sure each person in the group has an opportunity
to play the game once.
• With your table team, Start the game and SORT the
different forms of matter into SOLIDS, LIQUIDS, GASES
or PLASMA
• You will need to use your “ARROW” keys to move the
forms of matter into the correct column.
• You may play for 8 minutes and then start working to
complete handouts.
3. Atoms and Molecular Movement
The STATES of MATTER are the physical forms that substance
take. Solids, Liquids, Gas and Plasma are the four states of
matter we know most about.
Matter is made up of very tiny particles. These particles are
called atoms and molecules. Atoms and molecules behave
differently in each state of matter. Atoms and molecules
are always in motion, but their motion depends on the
state they are in.
The particles can only vibrate in a solid state. In the liquid
state, the particles can slide past each other. The particles
of a gas are able to move anywhere. Plasma, the most
common state of matter in the universe, consists of ions
and free moving electrons where as the other three states
of matter consist of neutral atoms and molecules.

12. Organizing Information
First organize the info by marking “X” under solid, liquid
or gas if the characteristic describes the form of matter.
Put ONLY NUMBERS into the Venn Diagram.
