Whole Faculty Study Groups
• Job-embedded, self-directed, student-driven approach to professional
development
• Faculty members will be broken into small groups where we will deliberate
our target areas and center them on student needs and classroom instruction.
• Our primary focus is increased student learning
Guided Principals of WFSG
1. Students are first
2. Everybody participates
3. Leadership is shared
4. Responsibility is equal
5. The work is public
Dynamics of WFSG
• Process Guidelines
• Groups no more than 6
• Composition doesn’t matter
• Keep a regular schedule
• Establish group norms
• Agree on a written study group action plan
• Complete a study group log
• Encourage each other
• Establish leadership rotation
• All members have equal status
• Have a curricular or instructional focus
• Plan ahead for transitions
• Make a comprehensive list of learning
resources, both material and human
• Include training in the study group’s agenda
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the study group,
using the intended results in the action plan
Dynamics of WFSG
• Functions
• Support implementation of curriculum
• Integrate & give coherence to our school’s strategies and programs
• Target school wide need
• Study research & developments on teaching and learning
• Monitor impact of innovations on students and the changing workplace.
Overall Goals
• Teacher collaboration is one of the centering aspects of the WFSG process.
• Our overall goal is to increase student learning! With your commitment and

Whole Faculty Study Groups • Job-embedded, self-directed, student-driven approach to professional development • Faculty members will be broken into small groups where we will deliberate our target areas and center them on student needs and classroom instruction. • Our primary focus is increased student learning
  • 3. Guided Principals of WFSG 1. Students are first 2. Everybody participates 3. Leadership is shared 4. Responsibility is equal 5. The work is public
  • 4. Dynamics of WFSG • Process Guidelines • Groups no more than 6 • Composition doesn’t matter • Keep a regular schedule • Establish group norms • Agree on a written study group action plan • Complete a study group log • Encourage each other • Establish leadership rotation • All members have equal status • Have a curricular or instructional focus • Plan ahead for transitions • Make a comprehensive list of learning resources, both material and human • Include training in the study group’s agenda • Evaluate the effectiveness of the study group, using the intended results in the action plan
  • 5. Dynamics of WFSG • Functions • Support implementation of curriculum • Integrate & give coherence to our school’s strategies and programs • Target school wide need • Study research & developments on teaching and learning • Monitor impact of innovations on students and the changing workplace.
