Interview With Bernie Sanders
In the episode I chose to watch, Evan Smith did an interview with Bernie Sanders. This episode was
originally aired on April 16, 2015, so the topic of discussion was if Bernie Sanders would be
running for president and what were the issues he would focus on if so. Sanders made some very
good points when he talked about our economy and the top one percent. He stated that the Koch
Brothers are the second wealthiest family in America and they spend at least $900 million in
campaigns so they basically own the country. I think this is very scary because if they– along with
other billionaires– are the ones giving the money to campaigns then they are the only voices that are
being heard. The Koch brothers have become too powerful and they are trying to own the political
system. Though many people, especially the younger generation, likes Sanders' views and what he
has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First off, our top one percent would have to become less important than they are now and the middle
and lower class people would have to become the main focus. People would have to get out and vote
and considering no one really has time for it other than the top one percent, I do not see Bernie
Sanders becoming our next president. I say this not only because people don't vote, but because as
good as his issues sound, EVERYONE in America would have to contribute in order for the changes
he want to make actually take action. Sanders also talks about raising the minimum wage prices,
which I am aware President Obama has been trying to enforce. Whitehouse.gov states that seventeen
states and Washington D.C have passed laws to raise minimum wage, but Sanders want more states
to join and go a little bit higher. To me this seems like a problem because, considering how our
economy is, more people would be out of jobs even though higher wages would help those with a

Bernie Sanders And The Economy

Bernie Sanders and the Economy With over 9 million votes and 42% of the popular vote in the
Democratic Party primaries, one man has started what he calls a "political revolution". He has
gained widespread support for a political ideology that he calls democratic socialism through
funneling the anger of Americans toward banks, the upper class, and trade deals. While he may seem
appealing to many Americans, his flaws greatly outweigh his strengths. Bernie Sanders should not
be the next President of the United States because his economic policies are extremely irresponsible
and in some cases dangerous. After the Federal Reserve raised interest rates in December of 2015,
Bernie Sanders wrote a scathing editorial in the New York Times, saying the Fed should not have
raised rates. He didn't, however, stop at saying the Fed should not have raised interest rates. Sanders
went on to say "As a rule, the Fed should not raise interest rates until unemployment is below 4
percent."
His reasoning for this was that "Raising interest rates now is a disaster for small business owners
who need loans to hire more workers and Americans who need more jobs and higher wages." The
implication made here is that there are small business owners who could afford to hire more workers
and start new projects if the rates stayed low, but they would not be able to afford those employees
and/or projects if the rates rose. To an ordinary bystander, this

Long Island Persuasive Speech
Long Island, N.Y. – Looking ahead to the New York presidential primary, Ohio Governor John
Kasich is wasting no time campaigning in the state that will play a pivotal role in deciding who will

Republican voters, Kasich is taking part in two town hall meetings, one in the morning at Hofstra
University in Hempstead and one in the evening at The Paramount in Huntington. With the
Wisconsin primary a day away, Kasich has decided to turn his attention to New York where 95

on to add how his rivals political experience would play a factor to helping him win at the

shutting down the government and calling the majority leader a liar," Kasich said, referring to both
Trump and Cruz respectively. "How do we go to a convention and we pick somebody that can't beat

are only two main reasons a candidate should drop out of the presidential race. "The reason you
drop out is when you think, first of all, if you run out of money, which we are not not," Kasich said.
"And secondly, though is when you are certainly been thinking, 'Well, my mission's been fulfilled."
Vowing to stay in the race, Kasich told the 350 supporters who gathered at Hofstra University in

Bernie Sanders
I. Job description
A. Bernie Sanders is a self–proclaimed socialist that is currently running as a Democratic candidate
for the President of the United States of America. If elected as President, Bernie Sanders would be
the head of state and the Commander in Chief of the United States armed forces. The position of
President has the power of the executive branch behind it. Article II of the Constitution grants the
President's duties and powers. It outlines that the President has the power to extend relations with
other nations with the ability to negotiate and sign treaties, which is checked by the Senate. The
President reserves the power to pass or veto bills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Koch brothers alone plan to spend roughly nine hundred million dollars in the coming 2016
election, which is a larger figure than both major parties combined spent last election. Bernie
Sanders believed this is the oligarchy the framers were afraid of and that congress needs to pass a
constitutional amendment to move towards the public funding of elections. Sanders has introduced
the Democracy is for People amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's ruling in the 2010 Citizens
United decision which swept out campaign finance laws that were in place to prevent the wealthy
gaining more influence over the United States' political system. He has voted for the Disclose Act to
shed light on the sums of money in politics and assured any Sanders Administration Supreme Court
nominee will go against the Citizens United

Outline For Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
(Hook/Lead) When humans are born, they all have a savage side to them, which can be held in and
tamed, or let out under certain circumstances. This is what author William Golding claims in his
award winning novel, Lord of the Flies. (GDT) An English plane full of schoolboys crash lands into
an island in the Pacific ocean. With all adults dead and nobody on the island, the boys elect a leader
named Ralph, and try to create their own society and civilization. Jack, one of the other schoolboys
does not follow the rules put in place by hunting and letting loose. Over time, Jack becomes a
savage with no sense of obedience. While Ralph wants to get off the island, Jack's evil ways of
killing pigs and uncivilized nature get to the rest of the boys on the island as more and more of them
want to live like Jack and focus more on meat and savagery rather than being rescued. (Thesis) The
boys value Jack's leadership more than Ralph's because Jack offers hunting and fun while Ralph
offers the boys rescue and order. (T) Jack rules the boys with meat, freedom, and fear, which the
boys gravitate towards. (E) Jack likes to taunt the boys with killing and hunting, which makes him
look like a bully, especially when " [Jack] giggled and flicked them while the boys laughed at his
reeking palms. Then Jack grabbed Maurice and rubbed the stuff over his cheeks . . . Right up her ...

The country would be chaos. This is exactly what happens to the boys, they are very satisfied with

letting the evil side out. (Clincher) Having rules in today's world is an essential, but we were all

A Diverse Pool Of Candidates

16 September 2015
This upcoming presidential election includes a diverse pool of candidates, with a wide variety of
opinions coming from different backgrounds. There is one candidate that stands out among the rest:
Vermont senator Bernie Sanders. He has decades of experience in politics, which is immensely
important for someone holding the position of President. During his time in public service he has
demonstrated that he is committed, strong, productive, fair, and honest. Sanders relies on his policies
and ideas significantly more than flaunting a charming personality to gain support, and he is able to
do this because he has always put a lot of consideration into the decisions he makes. Furthermore,
he has always been a strong supporter of quality of opportunity, which is the political ideal
advocating the view that the assignment of individuals to places in the social hierarchy is
determined by some form of competitive process; all members of society are eligible to compete on
equal terms. As president, Sanders would take many steps toward improving this aspect of society.
He recognizes that currently there is great disparity in the balance of power, and he has consistently
fought towards making the U.S.A. a country where everyone is well taken care of and has access to
what they need. If Sanders becomes president, he will fight for everyone to have an equal chance of
achieving their own American Dream. One of

Bernie Sanders for President
The 2016 presidential race has been a unique one. Today in society there is many controversial
issues that need to be fixed. After evaluating the positions and opinions of the five remaining
presidential candidates it is clear that Bernie Sanders is the best candidate who will put the U.S. on
the best path forward. Bernie Sanders realizes and plans on fixing the problems of Women's rights,
healthcare, and climate control.
The issue of women's rights first arose in early America history. Although our country has much
improved there is still a long way to go to fix the issue of gender inequality. As stated on Bernie

Bernie Sanders Effectiveness
Bernie Sanders is the best presidential candidate because many of his ideas are common sense, he is
effective, and he stands up for civil and minority rights more than other candidates. The first reason
Bernie Sanders is the best presidential candidate is many of his ideas are common sense. Compared
to other candidates, a multitude of Sanders' ideas are logical and would help fix countless issues in
America. An example of one of his plans is he wants to guarantee sick leave and vacation time for
workers. Zeeshan Aleem, in his article "These are the 6 Bold Ideas Fueling Bernie Sanders'
"Political Revolution"" on the website mic.com, states, "'We should begin to look at other countries

Sanders has a lengthy track record of getting stuff done legislatively and was acknowledged as an
amendment king who could align opposing political parties to create serious adjustments to the law.
Sanders was a member of the House of Representatives from 1991 to 2007 and when he was first
elected numerous people thought he would not be extremely effective, especially since he was an
independent. Zaid Jilani, in his article "Bernie Gets It Done: Sanders' Record of Pushing Through
Major Reforms Will Surprise You" on quora.org, says, " Sanders did something particularly original,
which was that he passed amendments that were exclusively progressive, advancing goals such as
reducing poverty and helping the environment, and he was able to get bipartisan coalitions of
Republicans who wanted to shrink government or hold it accountable and progressives who wanted
to use it to empower Americans." Contrary to what people expected, Sanders was a surprisingly
successful member of the House and was remarkably impressive in how he could get seemingly
impossible amendments to pass.. Examples of some the amendments Sanders was able to pass are?

Bernie Sanders Controversy
In the twenty–first century we have many media outlets to choose from. We may not recognize, but
most of them have some sort of bias. The presidential election is coming soon so there is a lot of talk
about it. Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders' popularity is going up and different outlets view
Sanders differently. Fox News is a known conservative outlet. In some people's opinion they aren't
too reliable. However, their website is put together nicely and is easily accessible. In an article about
Bernie Sanders they would say things "Has the Bernie Sanders phenomenon reached the point
where the media have to take it more seriously?" (Kurtz, Howard. "The Bernie Boom: Why Sanders
Is Shattering the Media's Expectations." Fox News. FOX News Network, 06 Oct. 2015. Web. 15
Nov. 2015.) That is obvious bias, claiming that Sanders hasn't been taken seriously until now. Fox
News also would not show full quotes of Sanders, but instead they would quote just a word.

Final Essay Question
Bernie Sanders in his early life grew up in New York and his father being occupied with his position
as a paint salesman gave Bernie a life in a struggling working class family. We must first understand
where Sanders is coming from, his childhood memory is vast of struggle and he's noticed during his
campaign run the large amounts of money being invested in each candidate. He seeks for America
being how it was first was with the public doing all the investments and not these largely owned
corporations and lobbying voters which have been already have a vote decision made by the
corporation they belong too. Bernie wants to pass a court decision to put regulations on how much
corporations and wealthy individuals invest their money on the presidential campaign.
This has almost succeeded in the past and is known as the Buckley V. Valeo case in 1976. The case
struck down on the limits of spending in campaigns, but upheld the provision limiting size of each
individual's contributions to the campaigns. President Gerald Ford has vetoed the bill and had
passed to the Federal Election campaign act of 1971. This was for the regulation of campaign ...

population on their side, but also the logic of spending 4.4 Billion is absent. He supports
unionization and neutrality checks for the media. He wants people to hear all the different ideas and

The Violence Against African Americans
Black voices around the country were being heard as they protested for their lives. It almost seemed
like déjà vu for the black community. However, this time, unlike in the Civil Rights Movement of
the 60's, the Black Lives Matter movement had a powerful tool in their pocket: social media. The
creation of the hashtag "Black Lives Matter" galvanized the movement throughout the nation, as
posts from people on both sides of the spectrum spoke out on their thoughts over the current police
violence against African Americans. Although the hashtag originally began on Facebook, the Black
Lives Matter movement has been able to reach a wide range audience through Twitter. On February
26, 2012, George Zimmerman reported a "suspicious person" in the neighborhood. After dispatch
instructed him not to approach the suspect, Zimmerman did the contrary and a few minutes later gun
shots were fired. George Zimmerman shot and killed an unarmed, seventeen–year–old African
American, Trayvon Martin. Let it be known that he had no authority to shoot Trayvon, he was
simply a neighborhood watch. He was not a police officer; he was a civilian in charge of overseeing
activities at night. Neighborhood watch have no authority to arrest or take actions typically reserved
for police officers. Later that week, he was arrested for the murder of Trayvon Martin. However, a
year later, Zimmerman was acquitted of the charge for second–degree murder. When the verdict was

Socialism V. Capitalism In the past the word Socialism or Socialist has been used with a negative
connotation but recently with the rise of Senator Bernie Sander, Independent from Vermont, running
for the Democratic Nomination for President of the United States of America, it has became a
positive word that many people are finding themselves agreeing with and flocking to see a Socialist
speak about economic and social problems facing our country. But there are still many people who
believe in Capitalism and that it can still work in our country. Every other candidate for President is
a " Capitalist" and have used that to separate themselves from or attack Senator Sanders. But most
people do no actually know what the political and economic meanings or dealings that come with
either ideal. Our history books do not do a good job of showing the real effects of Socialism or
Capitalism. Socialism is the best type of economic for various reasons. And historical examples of
when Democratic Socialism has improved America. The only example of Democratic Socialism that
one would need to see that its better than capitalism is a history lesson on the Great Depression. On
October 29, 1929, the American stock market crashed after having a ten years of growth and
Hundreds of thousands of American lost their money and savings and stocks. The Nation had no

Greed, Exploitation, And Division Of The Black Class
As Pope Benedict XVI famously stated, "Our world has grown weary of greed, exploitation and
division, of the tedium of false idols and piecemeal responses, and the pain of false promises." His
ideas are especially true in modern society. Greed refers to the intense desire for something,
particularly wealth and power. The desire for materialism has acted as a catalyst for greed to become
prevalent in society, especially in the United States of America. The presence of greed in the upper–
class dates back to as early as the 1820's when wealthy oil businessmen exploited sailors into
working in extremely dangerous conditions for their own self interest (Philbrick). The greed present
in the wealthiest families in the nation has established a detrimental division between the wealthy
and the poor. The gap is only growing further and further apart, as greed constructs the desire for the
rich to become richer resulting in the poor becoming poorer (JBW). As of right now, the United
States has the worst income equality out of all the developed countries in the world (Gongloff).
Unfortunately, we don't have enough people in our federal government looking for opportunities to
change our ways. The laws present in our government don't do enough in preventing the wealth gap
in our nation from increasing; in fact, since President Obama took office in 2008, the top 1% of our
country reels in 90% of all income gains (Hill). As a nation and a people, we must elect members

Bernie Sanders Viewpoints
After having two terms with President Obama, you would think that we would have more qualified
candidates this year. The most qualified candidate in my opinion is US Senator; Bernie Sanders. He
is not only qualified to be the president with years of experience in working in the government, but
he has some great view points. Viewpoints that benefit the people and not only the one percent.
"Today, we live in the richest country in the history of the world, but that means little because much
of the wealth is controlled by a tiny handful of individuals." Since the early 80's the middle class has
become poorer, and the one percent has gotten richer. There are many of Americans working long
gruesome hours for little pay. But if Bernie is elected

Bernie Sanders On Socialism
In the news lately there has been a lot of conversation about politics and the people running for each
respective party. Today I will be talking about Bernie Sanders and his views on socialism, He says
that his ideas will bring free collage and while that is true where is that money coming from? I
believe that socialism is an idea that will not work because it has not worked in the past and that his
ideas for it are mainly lies. To start off in any argument about Bernie Sanders people will say "His
plans are to make college free that has to be good", and this sounds too good to be true, that's
because it is. When Bernie Sanders says "Free college" what he means is that people who make
more money will have to pay greater taxes so that people

Bernie Sanders once said "Finally, let [us] understand that when we stand together, we will always
win. When men and women stand together for justice, we win. When black, white and Hispanic
people stand together for justice, we win." Bernie Sanders started as a young activist fighting to
desegregate and end the Vietnam war, As he got older he dwelled into politics and became a self
identified socialist; he competed against corporate backing and a corrupt political system yet
remained true to his beliefs of Universal Health Care System, affordable education, better social
security and welfare, the right for a woman to choose what she wants for her body, cares for the
environment, but most importantly, Bernie Sanders believes in America.

One of his greatest challenges as Mayor of Burlington was the Lake Champlain waterfront; he faced

created a lively waterfront that brought the community together with public beaches and parks, a
boathouse, community gardens, and campsites; this area is now home to many events and
conservation efforts and is a tourist destination to visiting Vermont. In 1987, Bernie Sanders was
voted as one of the best mayors in America by the U.S. News & World Report. Bernie Sanders
success in politics did not end there as he became the first socialist member of the House of
Representatives and the first independent member of the House of Representatives in 40 years. He

Bernard "Bernie" Sanders (born September 8, 1941) is an American politician and the junior United
States Senator from Vermont. He is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the
United States in the 2016 election. A Democrat as of 2015,[2] Sanders had been the longest–serving
independent in U.S. congressional history, though his caucusing with the Democrats entitled him to
committee assignments and at times gave Democrats a majority. Sanders became the ranking
minority member on the Senate Budget Committee in January 2015; he had previously served for
two years as chair of the Senate Veterans ' Affairs Committee.
Sanders was born and raised in the New York City borough of Brooklyn and graduated from the
University of Chicago in 1964. While a student he was an active civil rights protest organizer for the
Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. After settling in
Vermont in 1968, Sanders ran unsuccessful third–party campaigns for governor and U.S. senator in
the early to mid–1970s. As an independent, he was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont 's most
populous city, in 1981, and was reelected three times. In 1990 he was elected to represent Vermont 's

Analysis Of Bernie Sanders ' New York
Bernie Sanders
New York, NY. –– After being mathematically eliminated from clinching the Democratic
presidential nomination, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders refuses to formally ended his bid,
returning to the campaign trail in New York City
Titled as "Where We Go From Here" speech, it was widely expected that Sanders would bow out of
the presidential race. Instead, the once quiet Democratic Socialist Senator who has now become a
political celebrity detailed his plans of what exactly he will be doing from now until next month's
Democratic National Convention on Thursday night – transforming the Democratic Party with his
"political and social revolution" ideas.
"As we head towards the DNC, I often hear the question "What does Bernie want?" Sanders said to
over a thousand of supporters gathered in The Town Hall venue near Times Square. "This is not
about what Bernie Sanders want, it's about you and millions of other people who want a political
revolution." Framing out his convention platform fight, Sanders made clear the populist agenda he
will push in the upcoming convention. He specifically pointed to the rules and platform committee
in seeking to changes rules regarding to eliminating closed primaries and eliminate superdelegates.
"As we speak, literally, there are meetings of the Democratic platform committee that will come out
of the Democratic convention that will be by far the most progressive platform in the history,"
Sanders said, as supporters began screaming

environmental protection, childcare, women's rights, youth programs, and the arts. He then went on

He often is behind Hilary in polls. Though not recognized for is, his loss to Hillary in Nevada was
actually more impressive than his near win in Iowa and his smashing win in New Hampshire. This is
because he came so close when the demographics were not in his favor in Nevada. However, he is
coming up short from where he should be on Super Tuesday, he is also coming up short on the major
industrial states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania where he will run against Hilary neck to neck. His
loss by so little in Nevada showed that he has made up ground with Hispanic voters, a group that is
not associated with Bernie often. Thus meaning that Bernie must win the major states in–order to
win the democratic spot in the election. Things are no different when it comes to a general election
either. Many political analysts believe that if Bernie Sanders becomes the Democratic Nominee, that
he would get crushed in the general election. One argument supporting this fact is that though
Sander's holds up well in head–to–head polling against the republicans, he has never had to handle
billions of dollar's worth of attacks from the right. He has been involved in many lefty politics,
meaning that if he were to become the democratic nominee, there would be a treasure trove of
opposition research waiting to be unleashed. Another argument for this fact is that people want
significant change, but when faced with the unknown they become risk–averse, meaning that
Sander's ideological ideas would bring him down a couple points, while with Hilary since she has
been in the public's eye for many years, it would be hard to come up with something new that might

If I had to decide what president would be best it would definitely be between Hilary Clinton, and

First, Bernie Sanders is all about non–racism. It's been million of pictures surfacing the web where
he's been spotted marching with Martin Luther King Jr. I believe by him being against racism, a lot
of things going on right now would stop. When I speak on racism, I don't mean only towards
African Americans but all races together. The fact that he was actually there to see and go through it

here jobless. If he was to get into office and put that in action, their would be many more jobs, and
also with more jobs that means less people on the street. Another thing, if we were to start actually
producing our own goods, that could bring more money to our economy. How? Okay, say if the
United States started making things we would normally buy from China, other countries would
probably start buying from us. The only bad thing about that is, more factories means more
pollution.
Third, Mr. Bernie Sanders wants to increase minimum wage. Many people can say that's a bad thing
because the cost of living would rise. If you think about it, in the state of Georgia minimum wage is
7.25 and that's not enough to actually support a family. With him increasing minimum wage their
would be less people in poverty. By saying less people in poverty that means, not as many people
using government assistance also. I honestly don't see any down sides of

Bernie Sanders And Politics
Personally I believe that politics have continued to become more of a play, filled with actors and
scripted lines, instead of actual people dealing with legitimate issues. Instead of focusing on the
various dilemmas happening within our society, politicians often times, appeal to general,
unnecessary topics. The term, 'why fix something when it's not broken' is often used, but what
happens when what is broken, is so demolished that it goes unnoticed? The growth and development
of society has also pushed people into a corner where certain topics are barely touched upon because
we have this instilled fear of offending someone or various people. At a certain point in time, we
have to put aside the feelings of others in order to better the country ... Show more content on

First and foremost, I really enjoy the fact that Sanders does not hide behind his words. He speaks
with a purpose, and uses clear language that will be understood by many in order to get his points
across. Additionally, Sanders is not afraid to talk about the racial injustices that are occurring within
our walls of society. One of his largest campaigns, is to confront the dilemmas within our very own
communities, and how who we choose to interact with, holds an impact on not just us but also our
country. Compared to Clinton, also running for the Democratic Party, Sanders is not a commercially
bought robot. He has sponsors and supporters, but for the most part he has been very independent,
following his own values and ideas. One of the arguments raised against Sanders is that he has
openly stated of being a Socialist. Now, the issue that I have noticed with people's debates is that
they lack the basic knowledge of what Socialism actually is. So instead of actually having an
educated stance, they label Bernie as an extremist, when he is far from it; simply stating that he
wants there to be common ownership. Now whether or not this will benefit the country is an entirely
new argument. Sanders also fights continuously for the working poor and middle class, wanting to
provide the largest portion of America's population a prosperous and hopeful future. Sanders also
greatly believes that people should be freely given the right to make their own choices without laws
restricting them, which is why he remained pro–choice throughout his entire career, wanting to
allow women to make any decision about their life

Essay On The DACA Deal
The DACA Deal: Finding a Place for America's Dreamers
"Congress, get ready to do your job – DACA!" Trump exclaimed in one of his tweets on Tuesday
morning, September 5th.
This tweet is referencing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or more commonly known as
DACA. This immigration policy, formed in 2012 by the Obama administration, specifically targets
people who illegally entered the US as children. These children, often times referred to as
"Dreamers", are protected from immediate deportation under DACA by granting them deferred
action status as long as they meet the criteria of DACA. This status only lasts for two years, but
recipients can renew their status. Those protected by DACA also receive work permits, and while ...

According to PBS, roughly 800,000 people will be affected by DACA's repeal. Some moderate
republicans also aren't in favor of repealing DACA. The chief opponents of repealing DACA are the
left, such as senator Bernie Sanders, who has stated that repealing DACA would be "one of the
ugliest and craziest decisions ever made by a president."
On the other hand, supporters of repealing DACA also have their own reasons for wanting to get rid
of the act. Some believe that DACA is a legal concern. Current Attorney General Jeff Sessions, in a
press briefing discussing getting rid of DACA, stated this about removing DACA.
"This policy was implemented unilaterally to great controversy and legal concern after Congress
rejected legislation proposals to extend similar benefits on numerous occasions to this same group of
illegal aliens.... The executive branch, through DACA, deliberately sought to achieve what the
legislative branch specifically refused to authorise on multiple occasions. Such an open ended
circumvention of immigration laws was an unconstitutional exercise of authority by the Executive
Branch."
Others state that the immigrants protected under DACA are stealing jobs that could have gone to
american citizens. Also, in June multiple conservative states threatened to sue the Trump
administration if DACA was not repealed, considered to be the jumpstart for repealing DACA, as
those states bear the brunt of immigration. Repealing DACA will

The Cost Of A Degree
The Cost Of A Degree
"With the changing economy, no one has lifetime employment. But community colleges provide
lifetime employability." –Barack Obama. In our last presidential term Obama said these words upon
a proposal that will forever leave an impression and hope on Americans all over. Free college tuition
for the first two years. A proposal in which he believes kindergarten through fourteen or (the first
two years of community college) should be a part of our education system. This would have an

By allowing free college tuition the ambition gap would become more achievable to students
making them thrive in less stressful schooling environments knowing their college tuition wouldn't
be a burden of accelerating in academics.
Another way free college tuition would benefit our country is by allowing the education gap at the
bottom to no longer set a standard on education students receive. Thomas L. Friedman author of
"The World Is Flat", states, "So it made it possible for relatively wealthy people to organize into
self–taxing districts. And that meant that wealthy people, by associating with each other, could tax
themselves at relatively low rates and still produce very high per capita per student school budgets,
because of their bigger homes and higher property tax assessments." (360). Funding plays a major
role in how many schools are educated and at what level by levels of poverty, but by allowing free
college tuition students can look at more schools that offer some of the best of education.
In order to minimize the numbers gap of students trying to thrive in earning a degree, free college
tuition can allow students to pursue more degrees in less sought after jobs. Friedman states,
"According to the National Science Foundation, half of America's scientists and engineers are forty
years or older, and the

The Battle Of The Civil War
It was a group of radical Republicans and southern Democrats in 1865 that set the tone for one of
the most infamous and earlier gridlock stories in Congress. After the assignation of Abraham
Lincoln, Andrew Johnson became president and the dispute incurred over how to fix the country.
The Civil War had left the country with insurmountable damage and Congress could not agree on
how to rectify the situation. Northern Republicans wanted to open voting rights to former slaves,
which is exactly what the southern Democrats did not want. These Republicans, wanting to get more
votes, passed two voting right pieces of legislation, which Johnson vetoes. Thus begins not only
gridlock in Congress, but also attempted impeachment of Andrew Jackson. Gridlock is brought
about by valid and meaningful pieces of legislations that both major political parties cannot agree to
instate and while Congress may not agree to pass it, most often it is the citizens that suffer.
(Browning)
There are various reasons for Congress to achieve gridlock. Wikipedia defines congressional
gridlock as, "a situation when there is difficulty in passing laws that satisfy the needs of the people...
when the ration between bill s passed and the agenda of the legislature decreases." (Wikipedia)
Sarah Binder writer for Brookings states, " Alexander Hamilton was complaining more than two
centuries ago about the deadlock rooted in the design of the Continental Congress. In many ways,

Bernie sander is pro for national legalization and ending the federal prohibition on marijuana. That

that. He supported the medical use of marijuana when he was mayor. When he was mayor ever few
people got arrested for marijuana because the police had something better to do. Pluses lot of people

right to regulate marijuana the same way they sale alcohol and tobacco. This mean that businesses in

Bernie Sanders Interview
I chose Bernie sanders as the candidate that I would vote for. A couple of issues that I care about that
Sanders also stands for are healthcare for all and same–sex marriage. Sanders position on everyone
being able to have healthcare is supportive. In an interview with Ezra Klein of Vox, Sanders
responded with, "Health care, to my mind, is a right of all people. That's what I believe. I think
every man, woman, and child is entitled to health care"(1). He believes that healthcare should not be
something that we have to qualify and fight for but that it should be our right to have good
healthcare. He made a point by saying that despite having the affordable care act, we still have so
many people that are still uninsured and underinsured while our country is paying almost double
what any other nation faces (2). Sanders is for healthcare for all because he believes it's our right to
it despite our income and not be discriminated against for reasons such as our gender or previous
health issues. He believes we shouldn't be discriminated against just because we might have had a
health issue that the insurance companies consider a higher risk of needing help later, which would

Sanders has been a supporter of LGBT rights since the 80's which was around the time when he
supported the city of Burlington's first ever Pride Parade. Sanders made a statement after June 26,

couples across our country, as well as all those seeking to live in a nation where every citizen is
afforded equal rights". Sanders says if he is made president that he has a lot of plans to help the
LGBT community move further than it has already gone. One way he plans on doing so is by
signing into laws such as the Equality Act and the Every Chile Deserves a Family Act to help stop
discrimination against the LGBT community.

Why Is The Best Educated Work Force?
Climbing Up the Wall Streets for the Students
During the 2016 presidential race, an Independent Senator from Vermont arose to the occasion and
challenged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Governor Martin O'Malley for the Democrat
nomination. Senator Bernie Sanders introduced plenty of new daring policies. One of those policies
was the "It's Time to Make College Tuition Free and Debt Free", which immediately drew in most of
the millennials attention.
Senator Sanders first introduced a legislation at the 114th Congress 1st Session, May 19th 2015
titled "College for All Act". One of the main points highlighted in the legislation was "We live in a
highly competitive global economy, if we want our economy to be strong we need the best educated
work force in the world." I agree with that statement due to the fact that more jobs are now requiring
higher level education. We can't move forward with our economy, if our future leaders aren't
educated thus being unable to work which will lead to a significant rise in the unemployment rate
and a decrease in overall productivity. Senator Sanders main goal was to make college affordable for
everyone. The main argument against Senator Sanders is from the Republican candidates John
Kasich, and Jeb Bush. Both claim that we should leave the system the way it is now, letting the
states decide what's best for higher education. However, during the 2008 Great Recession the states
dramatically cut the funding for a higher education thus

Who Was Bernie Sanders A Democratic Socialist?
When you hear the word "Democratic Socialist", who pops up in your mind? Most people probably
think of Bernie Sanders. He is an amazing Democratic Socialist, but what was it that helped him

personality? Because we all know you don't just wake up and become an extraordinary Democrat
and presidential candidate.
Bernie Sanders' early life was pretty ordinary; Bernard Sanders' life started In Brooklyn, New York,

My argument is that it would be worse, because when he was mayor of Burlington, Bernie made
many changes that made Burlington a better place. And I believe, if Bernie was president, he would
do the same for the U.S.A. When he said Bernie would make college tuition free, he really gave
young people that didn't have enough money to go to college hope that they may be able to get an
education and do great things in the world. A"A guy named Adolf Hitler won an election in 1932.
He won an election, and 50 million people died as a result of that election in World War II, including
6 million Jews. So what I learned as a little kid is that politics is, in fact, very important." said
Bernie Sanders.
America really needs all of the commodities Bernie Sanders speaks of if you ask me. But the
problem still remains: how will America and the government afford all of the things Bernie Sanders
said he would do? If it means raising taxes would he still be a good president. Because taxes add up.
Even though those questions are unanswered, many still believe he will make a great president. So
in conclusion, the world would be worse without Bernie in it.
So, now that you know his story, do you understand Bernie Sanders more now? Does his mission
make sense now? Do you see how he made it up to this point? And finally, do you see how he made
the world a better place? But overall, he really does make our

Bernie Sanders should be elected president of 2016 for his political views on certain issues that will
help America. The background of Bernie Sanders makes him an advantageous president. He started
as an Independent politician. I haven't chosen if I'm a Democrat or Republican because I don't want
to get in a party and believe everything they do. Sanders was independent and he could see other
ideologies without being biased of his own politics. He later decided to be a democrat so he can be

his parents were Jewish immigrants. He has a higher chance of understanding how hard it is for
immigrants to come to this country looking for opportunities. ... Show more content on

Gun control matters to me because we kill each other with them. I know some say "guns don't kill
people, people kill people" and it's true but if there were a restriction on guns, that would one less
way for someone to die. Just like a drug, guns could be brought in from other countries and sold in
the black market so there are ways of getting them even if it's illegal to have them. It just doesn't
make sense to me that people have guns to protect from themselves from other people that could
have any type of weapon including a gun. It would make many citizens mad because of the 2nd
Amendment which gives them their right to bear arms, so instead, there should be psychological
tests to see if people are able to carry one without shooting others for no reason. Another issue is
health care. The government should give its citizens free health care because I think it's like an
implied law where the government has to keep its people safe. That includes diseases too. There are
people who can't afford Medicaid and get really sick, they still go to work because they need money
and their illness gets worse. People shouldn't suffer through that. My next issue is education. I don't
think there should be free college education but it shouldn't be expensive as it is now. If more
Americans were educated, they would benefit by having a good job and the country would benefit
too because we wouldn't depend on other countries as much. Honestly, all of the three candidates I

Equality, where are you on that grand scale between 10 and 90% and who will be your voice to

indisputably has the most unusual history of anyone in the U.S. Congress. He is the longest serving
independent in U.S. congressional history and the only candidate who is not working with Super
P.A.C 's having decided on primarily soliciting small private contributions. He became U.S senator
of Vermont in 2006 and was reelected by capturing almost 71% of the popular vote. Bernie Sanders
is a viable candidate with an ethical appeal who speaks to the populist, a candidate with a logical
appeal who is most known as a progressive voice on political issues such as universal health care,
civil rights, and income inequality. Above all, Sanders is a man with an emotional appeal who
speaks of the Democratic values that everyday American 's care about regardless of their political
affiliation. Throughout his career he has focused on the diminution of the American middle class
and the expanding income and wealth gaps in the United States.
Do we want another president who 's character cannot be trusted? Unlike many political candidates,

Biography Of Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders truly is a candidate for the American people. He supports reducing income
inequality, green energy, and making immigrating to America easier. In short, on every level he is
down–to–earth and has the same interests as the common citizen.
Bernie Sanders takes a very forthright approach on income inequality. He states that "In the year
2015, no one working 40 hours a week should be living in poverty." He would amend this by raising
the minimum wage from 7.50 an hour all the way up to 15 dollars an hour. He has also stated that he
will begin taxing big corporations more heavily, and hopes to use that money to fund public works
such as rebuilding bridges, roads, railways, airports, public transit systems, and so much more.
Bernie Sanders truly wishes to improve the standard of living for your average family and have
them be able to be self–sustaining without the need for government welfare.
Furthermore, Bernie Sanders has already started on his quest to achieve this. He is the one who led
the effort to increase the minimum wage of federal contractors to 10 dollars an hour. He has also
introduced the "Workplace Democracy Act" which strengthened unions and the power of an
individual worker. As just a senator he has done this; imagine what he could accomplish as President
of the United States.

Bernie Sanders Argument
In his article in the Huffington post on Aug. 8th, Pinaire expressed his confusion and irritation over
the Black Lives Matter movement co–founder Marissa Janae Johnson's very public protest which
completely shut down Bernie Sander's ability to address the crowd of thousands who had come to
hear what he had to say. As a presidential candidate, Senator Sanders intended to speak about the
issues of Social Security and Medicare which greatly effect the elderly and poor. Ms. Johnson's
comment, "You're never going to hear Bernie speak unless I get silence here now." didn't go over
well as the crowd tried to boo her off the stage. Despite being asked by many in the crowd to "Let
Bernie speak!", she continued anyway with comments like, "I was going to tell Bernie how racist
this city is, filled with its progressives," she told us, "but you already did it for me." As part of her
point, she also accused those in attendance of being racist liberals as she yelled into the microphone,

Francisco Perón's Breaches
Without trade, he basically took away many of the potential buyers of their once flourishing export
commodities. Another of Perón's breaches of the ten principles of economics is governments can
sometimes improve market outcomes; when the government seized public lands along with price
and wage restrictions, these actions caused a tremendous imbalance of the invisible hand of supply
and demand in their markets. It is critical that a government enforces property rights, so that a
"person can own and control scarce resources" (Mankiw, 2015, p. 12). It is unfortunate that a once
powerful and economically stable country like Argentina lost its power and standard of living due to
misuse and frankly, abuse of socialized programs.

GDP is used to measure the market value of a country's goods and services over a specific time
period. The GDP is made up of four components: Consumption, investment, government purchases
and net exports (exports – imports). There are a few portions of GDP directly related to socialism.
The first, and most obvious, is government purchases. In a socialist society, the government would
control much of a country's social services like welfare, social security, etc. These social services
would be paid for by collecting tax from peoples, products, and services within a country. Many of
the social services provided and paid for are not considered part of the GDP, instead they are
considered transfer payments, because social program payments are not made for a good or service
being produced by a country. From a macroeconomic viewpoint transfer payments are like negative
taxes to the GDP (Mankiw, 2015, p. 202); therefore, increasing the social services within a country
would reduce a country's GDP. Another issue to discuss regarding socialism is state funded
education. A teacher's salary is considered government expenses in the GDP; however, the price of
state funded education would be considered a social tax and therefore a transfer payment. Although
the initial cost of funding education may be a drain on the GDP, in the long run the production
gained from more people receiving post high school education would hopefully counter any of the
negative costs to GDP and actually be a gain from the increased goods and

The Issue Of Women's Suffrage
"Blindness separates people from things; deafness separates people from people." (Helen Keller).
The biggest problem when it comes to women's rights is that people refuse to hear that there is a

though women do have more rights than they did in the past, there are still issues that need to be
addressed. Women's suffrage is one of the most respected and memorable historical events. This
movement has been forgotten because it has been so long ago, men and women both are losing
respect for women's rights. Some men disrespect women's bodies and refuse to acknowledge that
they should have rights. People are forgetting that historic prodigies fought day ... Show more

The Pros And Cons Of Free College
As of 2017, more than 44 million Americans and 82 percent of college graduates are in debt because
of student loans. These loans are made to help these people pay for college that are financially
unable to pay for it themselves for whatever reason. The total amount of student loan debt racks up
to a total of 1.3 trillion dollars and as of last year became the largest leading form of national debt
outranking credit card debt and auto loans. As Bernie Sanders said during a press conference "let us
be clear, when you hear people who oppose this legislation, this is not a radical idea in 1965,
average tuition at a 4–year public university was just $256...at great schools like the City University
of New York and the State University of California, do you know what tuition was? It was $0. If
they could do it in the 60's we could do it now." The reason this topic has become such a
controversial issue is that there are many American students who are brilliant minded but come from
poor families who cannot afford to send their child off to pursue a higher education after high
school. A poll showed that about 62% of Americans believe that they can't afford the tuition cost of
college. That isn't hard believe considering that fact that the estimated cost of attending college for
four years has increased by over 1000% since the 1970's. The concept of free college is not a foreign
concept and, in fact, there are foreign countries that have virtually free college. A several of these

The President: How a President Should Wield their Power
Arguably the most powerful position in the world, the President holds unprecedented international
influence, and in such a connected and constantly evolving world, subtle missteps carry great
weight. With elections looming over the horizon for most in the Oval Office, the public's perception
of the Commander–in–Chief is critical. The presidents of the future should understand what power
they possess and how to wield it. And albeit an oversimplification of a complex position, three rules
ought to rule them all; protect businesses when they're supplying jobs, war should be a last resort,
but maintain a robust military, and never cease to let the needs of the many outweigh the deep ...

Interview With Bernie Sanders.pdfInterview With Bernie Sanders

  • 1. Interview With Bernie Sanders In the episode I chose to watch, Evan Smith did an interview with Bernie Sanders. This episode was originally aired on April 16, 2015, so the topic of discussion was if Bernie Sanders would be running for president and what were the issues he would focus on if so. Sanders made some very good points when he talked about our economy and the top one percent. He stated that the Koch Brothers are the second wealthiest family in America and they spend at least $900 million in campaigns so they basically own the country. I think this is very scary because if they– along with other billionaires– are the ones giving the money to campaigns then they are the only voices that are being heard. The Koch brothers have become too powerful and they are trying to own the political system. Though many people, especially the younger generation, likes Sanders' views and what he has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First off, our top one percent would have to become less important than they are now and the middle and lower class people would have to become the main focus. People would have to get out and vote and considering no one really has time for it other than the top one percent, I do not see Bernie Sanders becoming our next president. I say this not only because people don't vote, but because as good as his issues sound, EVERYONE in America would have to contribute in order for the changes he want to make actually take action. Sanders also talks about raising the minimum wage prices, which I am aware President Obama has been trying to enforce. Whitehouse.gov states that seventeen states and Washington D.C have passed laws to raise minimum wage, but Sanders want more states to join and go a little bit higher. To me this seems like a problem because, considering how our economy is, more people would be out of jobs even though higher wages would help those with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Bernie Sanders And The Economy Jonathan Harvey Morris HELA 10 Hour 5 8 May 2016 Bernie Sanders and the Economy With over 9 million votes and 42% of the popular vote in the Democratic Party primaries, one man has started what he calls a "political revolution". He has gained widespread support for a political ideology that he calls democratic socialism through funneling the anger of Americans toward banks, the upper class, and trade deals. While he may seem appealing to many Americans, his flaws greatly outweigh his strengths. Bernie Sanders should not be the next President of the United States because his economic policies are extremely irresponsible and in some cases dangerous. After the Federal Reserve raised interest rates in December of 2015, Bernie Sanders wrote a scathing editorial in the New York Times, saying the Fed should not have raised rates. He didn't, however, stop at saying the Fed should not have raised interest rates. Sanders went on to say "As a rule, the Fed should not raise interest rates until unemployment is below 4 percent." His reasoning for this was that "Raising interest rates now is a disaster for small business owners who need loans to hire more workers and Americans who need more jobs and higher wages." The implication made here is that there are small business owners who could afford to hire more workers and start new projects if the rates stayed low, but they would not be able to afford those employees and/or projects if the rates rose. To an ordinary bystander, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Long Island Persuasive Speech Long Island, N.Y. – Looking ahead to the New York presidential primary, Ohio Governor John Kasich is wasting no time campaigning in the state that will play a pivotal role in deciding who will get the nomination come July. Campaigning in two stops on Long Island, a island with a majority of Republican voters, Kasich is taking part in two town hall meetings, one in the morning at Hofstra University in Hempstead and one in the evening at The Paramount in Huntington. With the Wisconsin primary a day away, Kasich has decided to turn his attention to New York where 95 delegates are up for grabs. He went on to add how his rivals political experience would play a factor to helping him win at the convention. "We have one guy with no experience and the other guy who experience amounts to shutting down the government and calling the majority leader a liar," Kasich said, referring to both Trump and Cruz respectively. "How do we go to a convention and we pick somebody that can't beat Hillary? I'm not gonna be a pincushion and I'm not gonna be a marshmallow." Kasich stated there are only two main reasons a candidate should drop out of the presidential race. "The reason you drop out is when you think, first of all, if you run out of money, which we are not not," Kasich said. "And secondly, though is when you are certainly been thinking, 'Well, my mission's been fulfilled." Vowing to stay in the race, Kasich told the 350 supporters who gathered at Hofstra University in Hempstead, Long Island, that the race within the GOP field has become ... Sanders has introduced the Democracy is for People amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's ruling in the 2010 Citizens United decision which swept out campaign finance laws that were in place to prevent the wealthy gaining more influence over the United States' political system. • 9. Outline For Lord Of The Flies Research Paper (Hook/Lead) When humans are born, they all have a savage side to them, which can be held in and tamed, or let out under certain circumstances. This is what author William Golding claims in his award winning novel, Lord of the Flies. (GDT) An English plane full of schoolboys crash lands into an island in the Pacific ocean. With all adults dead and nobody on the island, the boys elect a leader named Ralph, and try to create their own society and civilization. Jack, one of the other schoolboys does not follow the rules put in place by hunting and letting loose. Over time, Jack becomes a savage with no sense of obedience. While Ralph wants to get off the island, Jack's evil ways of killing pigs and uncivilized nature get to the rest of the boys on the island as more and more of them want to live like Jack and focus more on meat and savagery rather than being rescued. (Thesis) The boys value Jack's leadership more than Ralph's because Jack offers hunting and fun while Ralph offers the boys rescue and order. (T) Jack rules the boys with meat, freedom, and fear, which the boys gravitate towards. • 11. A Diverse Pool Of Candidates Gabrielle Ivester English 300 Professor Passal 16 September 2015 This upcoming presidential election includes a diverse pool of candidates, with a wide variety of opinions coming from different backgrounds. There is one candidate that stands out among the rest: Vermont senator Bernie Sanders. He has decades of experience in politics, which is immensely important for someone holding the position of President. During his time in public service he has demonstrated that he is committed, strong, productive, fair, and honest. Sanders relies on his policies and ideas significantly more than flaunting a charming personality to gain support, and he is able to do this because he has always put a lot of consideration into the decisions he makes. Furthermore, he has always been a strong supporter of quality of opportunity, which is the political ideal advocating the view that the assignment of individuals to places in the social hierarchy is determined by some form of competitive process; all members of society are eligible to compete on equal terms. As president, Sanders would take many steps toward improving this aspect of society. He recognizes that currently there is great disparity in the balance of power, and he has consistently fought towards making the U.S.A. a country where everyone is well taken care of and has access to what they need. If Sanders becomes president, he will fight for everyone to have an equal chance of achieving their own American Dream. One of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bernie Sanders realizes and plans on fixing the problems of Women's rights, healthcare, and climate control. The issue of women's rights first arose in early America history. • 15. Bernie Sanders Effectiveness Bernie Sanders is the best presidential candidate because many of his ideas are common sense, he is effective, and he stands up for civil and minority rights more than other candidates. The first reason Bernie Sanders is the best presidential candidate is many of his ideas are common sense. Compared to other candidates, a multitude of Sanders' ideas are logical and would help fix countless issues in America. An example of one of his plans is he wants to guarantee sick leave and vacation time for workers. Sanders was a member of the House of Representatives from 1991 to 2007 and when he was first elected numerous people thought he would not be extremely effective, especially since he was an independent. Zaid Jilani, in his article "Bernie Gets It Done: Sanders' Record of Pushing Through Major Reforms Will Surprise You" on quora.org, says, " Sanders did something particularly original, which was that he passed amendments that were exclusively progressive, advancing goals such as reducing poverty and helping the environment, and he was able to get bipartisan coalitions of Republicans who wanted to shrink government or hold it accountable and progressives who wanted to use it to empower Americans." Contrary to what people expected, Sanders was a surprisingly successful member of the House and was remarkably impressive in how he could get seemingly impossible amendments to pass.. • 17. Bernie Sanders Controversy In the twenty–first century we have many media outlets to choose from. We may not recognize, but most of them have some sort of bias. The presidential election is coming soon so there is a lot of talk about it. Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders' popularity is going up and different outlets view Sanders differently. Fox News is a known conservative outlet. In some people's opinion they aren't too reliable. However, their website is put together nicely and is easily accessible. In an article about Bernie Sanders they would say things "Has the Bernie Sanders phenomenon reached the point where the media have to take it more seriously?" (Kurtz, Howard. "The Bernie Boom: Why Sanders Is Shattering the Media's Expectations." Fox News. FOX News Network, 06 Oct. 2015. Web. 15 Nov. 2015.) That is obvious bias, claiming that Sanders hasn't been taken seriously until now. Fox News also would not show full quotes of Sanders, but instead they would quote just a word. ("Bernie Sanders Takes Aim at 'greedy' Koch Brothers." Fox News. FOX News Network, 22 Aug. 2015. • 19. Bernie Sanders Vahag Chakerian 12/11/2015 Final Essay Question Bernie Sanders in his early life grew up in New York and his father being occupied with his position as a paint salesman gave Bernie a life in a struggling working class family. We must first understand where Sanders is coming from, his childhood memory is vast of struggle and he's noticed during his campaign run the large amounts of money being invested in each candidate. He seeks for America being how it was first was with the public doing all the investments and not these largely owned corporations and lobbying voters which have been already have a vote decision made by the corporation they belong too. Bernie wants to pass a court decision to put regulations on how much corporations and wealthy individuals invest their money on the presidential campaign. This has almost succeeded in the past and is known as the Buckley V. Valeo case in 1976. The case struck down on the limits of spending in campaigns, but upheld the provision limiting size of each individual's contributions to the campaigns. President Gerald Ford has vetoed the bill and had passed to the Federal Election campaign act of 1971. This was for the regulation of campaign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 21. The Violence Against African Americans Black voices around the country were being heard as they protested for their lives. It almost seemed like déjà vu for the black community. However, this time, unlike in the Civil Rights Movement of the 60's, the Black Lives Matter movement had a powerful tool in their pocket: social media. The creation of the hashtag "Black Lives Matter" galvanized the movement throughout the nation, as posts from people on both sides of the spectrum spoke out on their thoughts over the current police violence against African Americans. Although the hashtag originally began on Facebook, the Black Lives Matter movement has been able to reach a wide range audience through Twitter. On February 26, 2012, George Zimmerman reported a "suspicious person" in the neighborhood. After dispatch instructed him not to approach the suspect, Zimmerman did the contrary and a few minutes later gun shots were fired. George Zimmerman shot and killed an unarmed, seventeen–year–old African American, Trayvon Martin. Let it be known that he had no authority to shoot Trayvon, he was simply a neighborhood watch. He was not a police officer; he was a civilian in charge of overseeing activities at night. Neighborhood watch have no authority to arrest or take actions typically reserved for police officers. Later that week, he was arrested for the murder of Trayvon Martin. However, a year later, Zimmerman was acquitted of the charge for second–degree murder. • 23. Socialism : Socialism Vs. Capitalism Eric Butterbaugh Mrs. Penwell English Composition November 8, 2015 Socialism V. Capitalism In the past the word Socialism or Socialist has been used with a negative connotation but recently with the rise of Senator Bernie Sander, Independent from Vermont, running for the Democratic Nomination for President of the United States of America, it has became a positive word that many people are finding themselves agreeing with and flocking to see a Socialist speak about economic and social problems facing our country. But there are still many people who believe in Capitalism and that it can still work in our country. Every other candidate for President is a " Capitalist" and have used that to separate themselves from or attack Senator Sanders. But most people do no actually know what the political and economic meanings or dealings that come with either ideal. Our history books do not do a good job of showing the real effects of Socialism or Capitalism. Socialism is the best type of economic for various reasons. And historical examples of when Democratic Socialism has improved America. • 25. Greed, Exploitation, And Division Of The Black Class As Pope Benedict XVI famously stated, "Our world has grown weary of greed, exploitation and division, of the tedium of false idols and piecemeal responses, and the pain of false promises." His ideas are especially true in modern society. Greed refers to the intense desire for something, particularly wealth and power. The desire for materialism has acted as a catalyst for greed to become prevalent in society, especially in the United States of America. The presence of greed in the upper– class dates back to as early as the 1820's when wealthy oil businessmen exploited sailors into working in extremely dangerous conditions for their own self interest (Philbrick). The greed present in the wealthiest families in the nation has established a detrimental division between the wealthy and the poor. The gap is only growing further and further apart, as greed constructs the desire for the rich to become richer resulting in the poor becoming poorer (JBW). As of right now, the United States has the worst income equality out of all the developed countries in the world (Gongloff). Unfortunately, we don't have enough people in our federal government looking for opportunities to change our ways. The laws present in our government don't do enough in preventing the wealth gap in our nation from increasing; in fact, since President Obama took office in 2008, the top 1% of our country reels in 90% of all income gains (Hill). As a nation and a people, we must elect members running for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Bernie Sanders Viewpoints After having two terms with President Obama, you would think that we would have more qualified candidates this year. The most qualified candidate in my opinion is US Senator; Bernie Sanders. He is not only qualified to be the president with years of experience in working in the government, but he has some great view points. Viewpoints that benefit the people and not only the one percent. "Today, we live in the richest country in the history of the world, but that means little because much of the wealth is controlled by a tiny handful of individuals." Since the early 80's the middle class has become poorer, and the one percent has gotten richer. There are many of Americans working long gruesome hours for little pay. But if Bernie is elected ... • 29. Bernie Sanders On Socialism In the news lately there has been a lot of conversation about politics and the people running for each respective party. Today I will be talking about Bernie Sanders and his views on socialism, He says that his ideas will bring free collage and while that is true where is that money coming from? I believe that socialism is an idea that will not work because it has not worked in the past and that his ideas for it are mainly lies. To start off in any argument about Bernie Sanders people will say "His plans are to make college free that has to be good", and this sounds too good to be true, that's because it is. When black, white and Hispanic people stand together for justice, we win." Bernie Sanders started as a young activist fighting to desegregate and end the Vietnam war, As he got older he dwelled into politics and became a self identified socialist; he competed against corporate backing and a corrupt political system yet remained true to his beliefs of Universal Health Care System, affordable education, better social security and welfare, the right for a woman to choose what she wants for her body, cares for the environment, but most importantly, Bernie Sanders believes in America. One of his greatest challenges as Mayor of Burlington was the Lake Champlain waterfront; he faced against Tony Pomerleau, a developer backed by corporations who wanted to build apartment complexes, office buildings, and hotels. Bernie Sanders campaigned against this with the slogan "Burlington is not for sale" and created a plan to revitalize the waterfront. Sanders succeeded and created a lively waterfront that brought the community together with public beaches and parks, a boathouse, community gardens, and campsites; this area is now home to many events and conservation efforts and is a tourist destination to visiting Vermont. In 1987, Bernie Sanders was voted as one of the best mayors in America by the U.S. News & World Report. Bernie Sanders success in politics did not end there as he became the first socialist member of the House of Representatives and the first independent member of the House of Representatives in 40 years. • 35. Bernard, The American Politician And The Junior United... Bernard "Bernie" Sanders (born September 8, 1941) is an American politician and the junior United States Senator from Vermont. He is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election. A Democrat as of 2015,[2] Sanders had been the longest–serving independent in U.S. congressional history, though his caucusing with the Democrats entitled him to committee assignments and at times gave Democrats a majority. Sanders became the ranking minority member on the Senate Budget Committee in January 2015; he had previously served for two years as chair of the Senate Veterans ' Affairs Committee. Sanders was born and raised in the New York City borough of Brooklyn and graduated from the University of Chicago in 1964. While a student he was an active civil rights protest organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. After settling in Vermont in 1968, Sanders ran unsuccessful third–party campaigns for governor and U.S. senator in the early to mid–1970s. As an independent, he was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont 's most populous city, in 1981, and was reelected three times. Analysis Of Bernie Sanders ' New York Bernie Sanders New York, NY. –– After being mathematically eliminated from clinching the Democratic presidential nomination, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders refuses to formally ended his bid, returning to the campaign trail in New York City Titled as "Where We Go From Here" speech, it was widely expected that Sanders would bow out of the presidential race. Instead, the once quiet Democratic Socialist Senator who has now become a political celebrity detailed his plans of what exactly he will be doing from now until next month's Democratic National Convention on Thursday night – transforming the Democratic Party with his "political and social revolution" ideas. "As we head towards the DNC, I often hear the question "What does Bernie want?" Sanders said to over a thousand of supporters gathered in The Town Hall venue near Times Square. "This is not about what Bernie Sanders want, it's about you and millions of other people who want a political revolution." Framing out his convention platform fight, Sanders made clear the populist agenda he will push in the upcoming convention. He specifically pointed to the rules and platform committee in seeking to changes rules regarding to eliminating closed primaries and eliminate superdelegates. During his term he made significant strides in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, childcare, women's rights, youth programs, and the arts. This is because he came so close when the demographics were not in his favor in Nevada. However, he is coming up short from where he should be on Super Tuesday, he is also coming up short on the major industrial states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania where he will run against Hilary neck to neck. His loss by so little in Nevada showed that he has made up ground with Hispanic voters, a group that is not associated with Bernie often. Thus meaning that Bernie must win the major states in–order to win the democratic spot in the election. Things are no different when it comes to a general election either. Many political analysts believe that if Bernie Sanders becomes the Democratic Nominee, that he would get crushed in the general election. One argument supporting this fact is that though Sander's holds up well in head–to–head polling against the republicans, he has never had to handle billions of dollar's worth of attacks from the right. He has been involved in many lefty politics, meaning that if he were to become the democratic nominee, there would be a treasure trove of opposition research waiting to be unleashed. Another argument for this fact is that people want significant change, but when faced with the unknown they become risk–averse, meaning that Sander's ideological ideas would bring him down a couple points, while with Hilary since she has been in the public's eye for many years, it would be hard to come up with something new that might persuade voters who don't already see her as a ... • 43. Bernie Sanders Debate If I had to decide what president would be best it would definitely be between Hilary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders. Now if you really think about it Bernie Sanders is more of a better option. I can honestly name a thousand reasons why. First, Bernie Sanders is all about non–racism. It's been million of pictures surfacing the web where he's been spotted marching with Martin Luther King Jr. I believe by him being against racism, a lot of things going on right now would stop. When I speak on racism, I don't mean only towards African Americans but all races together. The fact that he was actually there to see and go through it is absolutely awesome. Second, He believes all higher public education should be free. I think this would help our economy a lot, giving people who may not have the money to pay for college a chance. Okay, say if the United States started making things we would normally buy from China, other countries would probably start buying from us. The only bad thing about that is, more factories means more pollution. Third, Mr. Bernie Sanders wants to increase minimum wage. Many people can say that's a bad thing because the cost of living would rise. If you think about it, in the state of Georgia minimum wage is 7.25 and that's not enough to actually support a family. With him increasing minimum wage their would be less people in poverty. By saying less people in poverty that means, not as many people using government assistance also. • 45. Bernie Sanders And Politics Personally I believe that politics have continued to become more of a play, filled with actors and scripted lines, instead of actual people dealing with legitimate issues. Instead of focusing on the various dilemmas happening within our society, politicians often times, appeal to general, unnecessary topics. The term, 'why fix something when it's not broken' is often used, but what happens when what is broken, is so demolished that it goes unnoticed? The growth and development of society has also pushed people into a corner where certain topics are barely touched upon because we have this instilled fear of offending someone or various people. First and foremost, I really enjoy the fact that Sanders does not hide behind his words. He speaks with a purpose, and uses clear language that will be understood by many in order to get his points across. Additionally, Sanders is not afraid to talk about the racial injustices that are occurring within our walls of society. One of his largest campaigns, is to confront the dilemmas within our very own communities, and how who we choose to interact with, holds an impact on not just us but also our country. Compared to Clinton, also running for the Democratic Party, Sanders is not a commercially bought robot. He has sponsors and supporters, but for the most part he has been very independent, following his own values and ideas. One of the arguments raised against Sanders is that he has openly stated of being a Socialist. Now, the issue that I have noticed with people's debates is that they lack the basic knowledge of what Socialism actually is. So instead of actually having an educated stance, they label Bernie as an extremist, when he is far from it; simply stating that he wants there to be common ownership. Now whether or not this will benefit the country is an entirely new argument. Sanders also fights continuously for the working poor and middle class, wanting to provide the largest portion of America's population a prosperous and hopeful future. Sanders also greatly believes that people should be freely given the right to make their own choices without laws restricting them, which is why he remained pro–choice throughout his entire career, wanting to allow women to make any decision about their life ... Trump exclaimed in one of his tweets on Tuesday morning, September 5th. This tweet is referencing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or more commonly known as DACA. This immigration policy, formed in 2012 by the Obama administration, specifically targets people who illegally entered the US as children. These children, often times referred to as "Dreamers", are protected from immediate deportation under DACA by granting them deferred action status as long as they meet the criteria of DACA. The chief opponents of repealing DACA are the left, such as senator Bernie Sanders, who has stated that repealing DACA would be "one of the ugliest and craziest decisions ever made by a president." On the other hand, supporters of repealing DACA also have their own reasons for wanting to get rid of the act. Some believe that DACA is a legal concern. Current Attorney General Jeff Sessions, in a press briefing discussing getting rid of DACA, stated this about removing DACA. "This policy was implemented unilaterally to great controversy and legal concern after Congress rejected legislation proposals to extend similar benefits on numerous occasions to this same group of illegal aliens.... The executive branch, through DACA, deliberately sought to achieve what the legislative branch specifically refused to authorise on multiple occasions. Such an open ended circumvention of immigration laws was an unconstitutional exercise of authority by the Executive Branch." Others state that the immigrants protected under DACA are stealing jobs that could have gone to american citizens. Also, in June multiple conservative states threatened to sue the Trump administration if DACA was not repealed, considered to be the jumpstart for repealing DACA, as those states bear the brunt of immigration. Another way free college tuition would benefit our country is by allowing the education gap at the bottom to no longer set a standard on education students receive. Thomas L. And that meant that wealthy people, by associating with each other, could tax themselves at relatively low rates and still produce very high per capita per student school budgets, because of their bigger homes and higher property tax assessments." After the assignation of Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson became president and the dispute incurred over how to fix the country. The Civil War had left the country with insurmountable damage and Congress could not agree on how to rectify the situation. Northern Republicans wanted to open voting rights to former slaves, which is exactly what the southern Democrats did not want. These Republicans, wanting to get more votes, passed two voting right pieces of legislation, which Johnson vetoes. Thus begins not only gridlock in Congress, but also attempted impeachment of Andrew Jackson. Gridlock is brought about by valid and meaningful pieces of legislations that both major political parties cannot agree to instate and while Congress may not agree to pass it, most often it is the citizens that suffer. He believes that healthcare should not be something that we have to qualify and fight for but that it should be our right to have good healthcare. He made a point by saying that despite having the affordable care act, we still have so many people that are still uninsured and underinsured while our country is paying almost double what any other nation faces (2). Sanders is for healthcare for all because he believes it's our right to it despite our income and not be discriminated against for reasons such as our gender or previous health issues. Climbing Up the Wall Streets for the Students During the 2016 presidential race, an Independent Senator from Vermont arose to the occasion and challenged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Governor Martin O'Malley for the Democrat nomination. Senator Bernie Sanders introduced plenty of new daring policies. One of those policies was the "It's Time to Make College Tuition Free and Debt Free", which immediately drew in most of the millennials attention. Senator Sanders first introduced a legislation at the 114th Congress 1st Session, May 19th 2015 titled "College for All Act". One of the main points highlighted in the legislation was "We live in a highly competitive global economy, if we want our economy to be strong we need the best educated work force in the world." I agree with that statement due to the fact that more jobs are now requiring higher level education. We can't move forward with our economy, if our future leaders aren't educated thus being unable to work which will lead to a significant rise in the unemployment rate and a decrease in overall productivity. Senator Sanders main goal was to make college affordable for everyone. The main argument against Senator Sanders is from the Republican candidates John Kasich, and Jeb Bush. Gun control matters to me because we kill each other with them. Just like a drug, guns could be brought in from other countries and sold in the black market so there are ways of getting them even if it's illegal to have them. It just doesn't make sense to me that people have guns to protect from themselves from other people that could have any type of weapon including a gun. It would make many citizens mad because of the 2nd Amendment which gives them their right to bear arms, so instead, there should be psychological tests to see if people are able to carry one without shooting others for no reason. Another issue is health care. The government should give its citizens free health care because I think it's like an implied law where the government has to keep its people safe. That includes diseases too. There are people who can't afford Medicaid and get really sick, they still go to work because they need money and their illness gets worse. He believes we should transition to renewable sources of energy and "transform our energy system away from fossil fuels." The transition to renewable resources is important because in the past decade our oceans have risen 9 inches. If this trend continues millions of coastal residents would be forced to leave abandon their homes. • 67. Bernie Sander A Socialist Bernie Sander is a socialist who is currently running for 2016 presidential election. However, sanders believe that he a democratic socialist. From my point of view, I believe he is a socialist. He frames his political view that we must create an economy that works for all, not just the very wealthy. His fight for equal treatment of the poor and middle class and against the billionaire class is the central focus of his campaign, and the socialist mantle has positioned him further left of Center than Clinton. He aimed toward providing free college; and there are many more things that sander's want to promise to the people of the United States. Bernie Sander wants to provide equality for all; and that what make him a socialist. I think it unfair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Bernie Sanders Argument In his article in the Huffington post on Aug. 8th, Pinaire expressed his confusion and irritation over the Black Lives Matter movement co–founder Marissa Janae Johnson's very public protest which completely shut down Bernie Sander's ability to address the crowd of thousands who had come to hear what he had to say. As a presidential candidate, Senator Sanders intended to speak about the issues of Social Security and Medicare which greatly effect the elderly and poor. Ms. Johnson's comment, "You're never going to hear Bernie speak unless I get silence here now." didn't go over well as the crowd tried to boo her off the stage. Despite being asked by many in the crowd to "Let Bernie speak!", she continued anyway with comments like, "I was going to tell Bernie how racist this city is, filled with its progressives," she told us, "but you already did it for me." As part of her point, she also accused those in attendance of being racist liberals as she yelled into the microphone, "Now that you've covered yourself in your white supremacist liberalism, I will formally welcome Bernie Sanders to Seattle." ... • 71. Francisco Perón's Breaches Without trade, he basically took away many of the potential buyers of their once flourishing export commodities. Another of Perón's breaches of the ten principles of economics is governments can sometimes improve market outcomes; when the government seized public lands along with price and wage restrictions, these actions caused a tremendous imbalance of the invisible hand of supply and demand in their markets. It is critical that a government enforces property rights, so that a "person can own and control scarce resources" (Mankiw, 2015, p. 12). It is unfortunate that a once powerful and economically stable country like Argentina lost its power and standard of living due to misuse and frankly, abuse of socialized programs. Denmark and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... GDP is used to measure the market value of a country's goods and services over a specific time period. The GDP is made up of four components: Consumption, investment, government purchases and net exports (exports – imports). There are a few portions of GDP directly related to socialism. The first, and most obvious, is government purchases. In a socialist society, the government would control much of a country's social services like welfare, social security, etc. These social services would be paid for by collecting tax from peoples, products, and services within a country. Many of the social services provided and paid for are not considered part of the GDP, instead they are considered transfer payments, because social program payments are not made for a good or service being produced by a country. From a macroeconomic viewpoint transfer payments are like negative taxes to the GDP (Mankiw, 2015, p. 202); therefore, increasing the social services within a country would reduce a country's GDP. Another issue to discuss regarding socialism is state funded education. A teacher's salary is considered government expenses in the GDP; however, the price of state funded education would be considered a social tax and therefore a transfer payment. Although the initial cost of funding education may be a drain on the GDP, in the long run the production gained from more people receiving post high school education would hopefully counter any of the negative costs to GDP and actually be a gain from the increased goods and ... • 73. The Issue Of Women's Suffrage "Blindness separates people from things; deafness separates people from people." (Helen Keller). The biggest problem when it comes to women's rights is that people refuse to hear that there is a problem. This situation is very familiar in today's world. People refuse to understand that even though women do have more rights than they did in the past, there are still issues that need to be addressed. Women's suffrage is one of the most respected and memorable historical events. This movement has been forgotten because it has been so long ago, men and women both are losing respect for women's rights. Some men disrespect women's bodies and refuse to acknowledge that they should have rights. People are forgetting that historic prodigies fought day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humanitarian reforms such as the elimination of cruel punishment, the dissemination of empathy– inducing novels, and the abolition of slavery were met with fierce opposition in their time by ecclesiastical authorities and their apologists. The elevation of parochial values to the realm of the sacred is a license to dismiss other people's interests, and an imperative to reject the possibility of compromise." (Steven Pinker). Women are not the only people to face discrimination of rights. Everyday, someone is denied of their natural born rights. Whether it be a woman, man, homosexual, animal, or child. It is arbitrary to treat a woman any less than a man, not only because what women are capable of, but because they are people. Everyone on this Earth deserves to be equal. That is why women should have equal rights, to their bodies, labor payment, and health care. The life of a person is very valuable, and should be treated as such. • 75. The Pros And Cons Of Free College As of 2017, more than 44 million Americans and 82 percent of college graduates are in debt because of student loans. These loans are made to help these people pay for college that are financially unable to pay for it themselves for whatever reason. The total amount of student loan debt racks up to a total of 1.3 trillion dollars and as of last year became the largest leading form of national debt outranking credit card debt and auto loans. As Bernie Sanders said during a press conference "let us be clear, when you hear people who oppose this legislation, this is not a radical idea in 1965, average tuition at a 4–year public university was just $256...at great schools like the City University of New York and the State University of California, do you know what tuition was? It was $0. If they could do it in the 60's we could do it now." The reason this topic has become such a controversial issue is that there are many American students who are brilliant minded but come from poor families who cannot afford to send their child off to pursue a higher education after high school. A poll showed that about 62% of Americans believe that they can't afford the tuition cost of college. That isn't hard believe considering that fact that the estimated cost of attending college for four years has increased by over 1000% since the 1970's. The concept of free college is not a foreign concept and, in fact, there are foreign countries that have virtually free college. A several of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. President : How A President Should Wield Their Power The President: How a President Should Wield their Power Arguably the most powerful position in the world, the President holds unprecedented international influence, and in such a connected and constantly evolving world, subtle missteps carry great weight. With elections looming over the horizon for most in the Oval Office, the public's perception of the Commander–in–Chief is critical. The presidents of the future should understand what power they possess and how to wield it. And albeit an oversimplification of a complex position, three rules ought to rule them all; protect businesses when they're supplying jobs, war should be a last resort, but maintain a robust military, and never cease to let the needs of the many outweigh the deep ... Running in line with the writer Percy Bysshe Shelley in his piece "Ozymandias," whereas he depicted an arrogant, long dead king ironically being prideful of his power, claiming it would never end. People never forget what you did, particularly if you've improved their lives, but money fades away as quickly as it was deposited into your account. United States Senator Bernie Sanders has consistently attempted to get money out of politics through numerous methods, negating the current widespread practice of money's primacy over the needs of the many. Senator Sanders is currently attempting to overturn Citizens–United, a "disastrous Supreme Court decision"(Sanders, Bernie) which allows infinite dollars to be syphoned into our electoral politics, causing widespread corruption in the highest levels of our government. Furthermore, he continues to advocate for the DISCLOSE act(H.J.Res. 64 (107th)), which would provide the groundwork for legislation to protect the corruptness and transparency of all federal elections by enacting disclosure requisites for all contributions. Instead of the now corruptible means for politicians to get the money behind their campaign, Bernie strives toward public funding of elections in order promote an election where the best ...
