Problems with Wildlife Essay
Problems with Wildlife
It is blatantly obvious that the level of wildlife has been decreasing amazingly over the years.
Species of animals and plants are rapidly becoming endangered or even extinct.
There are many factors that are making this problem a reality. Habitat destruction, hunting, and
pollution are the three major factors that are destroying our wildlife.
The destruction of habitat is the greatest of all threats to wildlife, whether they're rich tropical forests,
mangroves, swamps, coral reefs, or your own local grassland or woods. Most wild plants and
animals are so closely adapted to their own particular habitat that they become rare...show more

This enters the shallow sea coral area from nearby rivers and kills the live corals.
People have hunted animals and collected wild plants for thousands of years. In the early days of
human evolution, it was necessary to survive. Today, however, hunting continues mostly as a sport,
or in more sinister fashion as illegal poaching for profit. Beautiful shells and some kinds of wild
plant, including cacti, are collected as well.
The large whales were hunted almost to the point of no return for their meat, oil, and fat. In the
1980's most countries halted this activity and whale population now shows signs of recovery.
Dolphins, smaller cousins of the whales, suffer from being snared in fishing nets and many die
accidentally by drowning.
Hunting has had a major impact on large mammals, especially on the open plains and savannas of
Africa. Rhinoceroses, elephants, and others are easily spotted and shot. Elephants are the largest
living land mammal and the only remaining representative of the order Proboscides, which during
the Pleistocene period roamed every landmass except Australia and Antarctica. And they are just
killed to the point where they are

According to Kotler (2000), "positioning is the act of designing the company's offering and brand
image to occupy a distinctive place in the target market's mind". In today's highly competitive global
marketplace, a product will not thrive or survive without a clear competitive distinction (Kotler,
2000). The same goes for tourism destinations, which is why it is crucial to position a destination
efficiently and effectively in comparison to competitors.
In order to determine the position of a destination, Morrison (2010) established a positioning theory,
namely 'The 5D's of Positioning', which involves documenting, deciding, differentiating, designing
and delivering. These 5 positioning steps are applied to Wildlife World in table 4 below.

Current visitors will benefit from the upgrade as they can experience a new route and far more
animals. Potential visitors will be attracted to the park as it is unique but still features Australian
animals.
DecidingThe organisation must decide what image should be placed in the customer's mind.Echter
& Ritchie's (1973) model will be employed. The psychological, functional, holistic and attributes
according to this model are explained in terms of Wildlife World's destination image below.
DifferentiatingDifferentiate the brand image from competing companies.Wildlife World has great
competitive advantage as it is far more interactive through its activities, features a phone
application, has a diverse range of animals in customised habitats, and is still a world famous koala
sanctuary. Primary competitors for Wildlife World are Australia Zoo and Alma Park zoo, which
differ as they both still focus on Australian animals.
DesigningDesign and Communicate the brand image to customers. To communicate the desired
image to the target markets and potential customers, various promotional campaigns will be
employed as discussed in table 5

Wildlife Preservation
You hear about it all the time, and you read bout it in newspapers and magazines on how some
nearby wildlife habitat is going to be torn up by an army of machinery and turned into a Super
Wall Mart with a parking lot that's big enough to fit five thousand cars. Is this really necessary? Is
there a need to take every last bit of our wildlife at the expense of our capitalist society? It seems
that humanity's interactions with wildlife has been based on ignorance and the self–interest of the
persons involved. The termination of wildlife and it habitats must be reversed for the sake of all of
us, the land and wildlife, and future generations to come. If you are a true believer in the
preservation of wildlife,...show more content...
Another charity organization is the Wildlife Preservation Trust Canada.
"Wildlife Preservation Trust Canada is a dynamic non–profit charitable organization devoted to
saving highly endangered animal species facing extinction in Canada and internationally. This is
accomplished through focused species conservation and professional training programs,
complemented by education and outreach programs." (http://www.wptc.org/) It's plain to see that
there are people out in our society that don't think twice about what happens to their ecosystem and
wildlife when hundreds if not thousands of acres of land are being destroyed for the grounds of a
mall that's being built within miles of yet another mega–complex shopping center. And there are
those who do care about wildlife preservation and get involved with local organizations for
preservation for generations to come. The people at Green Peace, one of the most recognized
wildlife organization have come together to form a group of peacemakers looking out for the
environment. "In 1971, motivated by their vision of a green and peaceful world, a small team of
activists set sail from Vancouver, Canada, in an old fishing boat. These activists, the founders of
Greenpeace, believed a few individuals could make a difference."Their mission statement reads:
"Greenpeace is an independent, campaigning organization that uses

Becoming a Wildlife Biologist: A Guide to Attaining the Expert Level Everyone wants to be an
expert at something. Doesn't it sound fun to analyze animals' behaviors, mannerisms, and watch
them in their natural environment? Is that something being a wildlife biologist? There are many
different viewpoints on how to achieve success in the field of wildlife biology. First of all, a wildlife
biologist studies the physical characteristics and behaviors of wildlife and the impact humans have
on wildlife and their natural habitats (Summary, 2014). They may work in the field or in a lab
setting, depending on the job. One successful path to becoming an expert wildlife biologist requires a

Problem solving skills and the collaboration of ideas allow a wildlife biologist to view the data and
create a common solution that will help all or most of the involved species. These scientists must
also be patient and wait for data to support or not support a potential theory. Justin Brashares is a
good example of problem solving and meticulously looking at the data. In 1998, Brashares went
to Africa to study antelope behavior only to find nearly no antelope (Nijhuis, 2014). Just as the
Ghanaian farmers and the data told him, as fish harvesting became less successful, hunters
harvested more antelope and other species, which in turn resulted in more baboons (because of
nearly no predation), and children staying home from school to protect their family farms from
the baboons (Nijhuis, 2014). Also, the decreasing fish industry was resulting in a higher rate of
child slavery (Nijhuis, 2014). These data findings explained the decline in antelope and how this
related to the bigger problem. He had to thoroughly look at the data to find the true cause in the
wildlife decline and try to solve the problem in a way that benefited all areas of this issue. Wildlife

Saving Wildlife: Is It Truly Worth It?
Saving Wildlife: Is it truly worth it? Is saving wildlife truly worth it? According to Robert Carter,
"we cannot afford to fail in our mission to save a living planet" (Carter, 1). Wildlife is truly vital
to the survival of the human species. If as a society we don't try to help, then we can expect the
extinction of all animals and later the extinction of humans. The Earth we live on and all the
wildlife that live with us are a giant part of our lifestyle. They offer food as well as the being a major
part of the life cycle. The author, Robert Carter, states there are 5 reasons why everyone should try
to save wildlife. The five reasons include saving a planet of life, improving human lives, species
recovery, inspiration, and helping the...show more content...
The food chain needs to be in a constant standing in order for humans to thrive as well.
Wildlife can drastically alter human lives. According to Robert Carter, "by protecting species, we
also protect the essential goods and services that make our lives possible and contribute enormously
to human health and well–being – breathable air, clean water, food, fibers, building materials,
medicines, energy, fertile soils, climate regulation, transport, and recreational and spiritual
values"(1). To explain, animals do have a major impact on the community. Most medicines comes
from the environment, such as plants. Without most of these medicines, humans will also slowly die
off.
Animals can be an incredibly important asset to a village. When they are removed from a certain
area then it can alter the dynamic of a village." I was very glad that the coolie had been killed;it
put me legally in the right and it gave me a sufficient pretext for shooting the elephant"(Orwell
153). The story takes place in the 1900's, so the population does not have electricity. In the story,
the elephant carried heavy items for the humans. The animal served as machinery in such a poor
village. When the person shot the elephant, the population did not know that the elephant was the
main source in their transportation of heavy items. How would the species recover if all of it is
going extinct? How does the species recover? According to Robert Carter, "China is the only
