Fire Prevention Through Infrared Scan of Electrical Equipment
Electrical Fires
According to the latest statistics from NFPA's report on "Fires in Industrial or Manufacturing
Properties", found here: http://www.nfpa.org/news–and–research/fire–statistics–and–reports
/fire–statistics/fires–by–property–type/industrial–and–manufacturing–facilities
/fires–in–us–industrial–and–manufacturing–facilities, electrical distribution and lighting equipment
caused 11% of fires and accounted for 15% of direct property damage in industrial or manufacturing
facilities from 2009 to 2013.
A key way to prevent electrical fires is through predictive maintenance to detect the onset of a
condition that could eventually lead to a fire, then correcting that...show more content...
(3) Temperature differences of 16В°C and above indicate major deficiency; repairs should be made
immediately. Figure 1 – Infrared Image
NFPA 70B– Section 11.17 provides guidance on the use of infrared scans to determine the condition
of various elements of an electrical power distribution system and to provide information that is used:
1.To determine whether any corrective maintenance or replacement is necessary or desirable
2.To confirm the ability of the element to continue to perform its design function adequately
3.To chart the gradual deterioration of the equipment over its service life
Preparation for Infrared Scan
Very little preparation is required of the organization requesting the infrared scan. The thermographer
and the qualified electricians opening the panels should follow NFPA 70E– Standard for Electrical
Safety in the Workplace. This could include the need for arc flash analysis, training, and specific
personal protective equipment (PPE) for all personnel who will be standing in front of open, live
electrical panels. [See NFPA 70E– Tables 130.7 (c)(9) (a), (c)(10), (c)(11) for details on PPE
required]
Infrared Scan
Infrared (IR) scans should be performed while electrical equipment is under load, preferably peak
load conditions, but not less than 40% of the rated load of the electrical equipment being inspected.
Infrared scans typically include the

The Fire Essay
A dark, smoggy night in the middle of winter, chills were running through the rooms of the house,
like a ghost silently coming and silently going. Suddenly, in the distance, there was a faint
booming sound like a drum being beaten. The noise soon started to get louder and louder and
louder until all that could be heard was the deafening noise. People from houses along the street ran
out in their dressing gowns onto the road and huddled together to witness a roaring fire devastating
the house of a family living nearby. The owners of the house desperately attempted to remove
valuable and sentimental items from the burning wreck, but all was in vain as the glaring fire
obliterated their irreplaceable...show more content...
Instead, the entire family lay curled up on the dew–topped grass, huddled together, shivering in the
frosty, winter wind. They had managed to get very few possessions out of the burning wreck, the
night before, but the remainder of their belongings had burned away over the silent, yet lively night.
Even though the land itself had been severely damaged, the natural daily events started without
delay. Birds were twittering and singing with the voices of angels, filling the air with the sweet
sound of nature. They flew around, rooftop to rooftop at amazing speeds. Their feathers ruffled
slightly in the breeze and, quite often, they sprung around on their tiny, diminutive feet on the lawns
of people, living in the area, searching around for any traces of food for their breakfast.
The staleness of the winter air had slowly begun to fade away as the gentle wind carried it away
with the smoke. The sun had now fully risen revealing all of its beauty. The hills and moors all shone
with the intense sunlight and all the living things in the area woke up to the new day. The horses
trotted out of their stables and galloped around the field, like an early morning ritual.
The victims of the tragedy also eventually woke up, still with the looks of utter disbelief and dismay

Fire Emergency Drill
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
Fire safety is everybody's concern. Poor fire safety practices and improper planning for fire
emergency can consequently lead to critical situations. This is more threatening particularly for
buildings which accommodate laboratories, chemical stores or server rooms. Observance and
application of fire prevention principles can help to reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards.
Moreover, much emphasis must be put on elaboration of a well designed emergency plan that
defines the appropriate procedures to be followed in case of a fire. Implementation and practice of
this plan through fire emergency drills is vital. The main focus of this study being importance of fire
drills and setting up of an...show more content...

2.3 Classes of fire
When fighting fires, it is necessary to choose the right type of fire extinguisher. The choice of the fire
extinguisher is based on the class of fire which depends upon the material being burnt in the fire.
Table 1 gives a summary of the classes of fire and the type of burning material or fuel source.

Persuasive Essay On Fire
Growing up I was taught to never play with fire as it was very dangerous, so I didn't know what to
expect, and I didn't know how my actions as a firefighter would affect the population of John
Day, so when I was told following the conclusion of guard school that we were going to a
prescribed burn I was shocked. I still had the slimmest idea of how these prescribed burns worked,
but I'd soon find out more following the car ride to the burn. There is a lot of irony behind
prescribed burns. Such as starting fire to help prevent fire? Sounds fishy, but yet the facts are there
supporting it. Prescribed fire has been proven to reduce hazardous fuels, minimizes spread of
insects and disease, and recycling nutrients back into the soil furthermore helping promote the
growth of new trees, wildflowers, and other plants. (USDA) The main purpose behind prescribed
burns is to help aid in Fire prevention and the renewal of our Forests.
Overtime without fire exclusion on an ecosystem will become unhealthy and trees will start to
become stressed by the overcrowding that is occurring this is one reason we should have
prescribed burns. The fires help in wiping out the over populated areas of trees, and also to help
wipe out high complexity level snags that certain fallers won't risk cutting down; snag is a term for
a dead tree in the forest service. As with taking out dead trees these fires help to take out and/or
minimize the rate of spread of certain insects and diseases such as

Essay on Wildfires
A wildfire is any instance of uncontrolled burning in grasslands, brush, or woodlands. Wildfires
destroy property and valuable natural resources, and may threaten the lives of people and animals.
Wildfires can occur at any time of the year, but usually occur during hot, dry weather. Wildfires are
usually signaled by dense smoke which may fill the air for miles around. The National Weather
Service, U.S. Forest Service, and State forestry agencies combine to give wildfire probability
forecasts. Local radio and television stations broadcast information and warnings on local fire
conditions. Wildfires pose an increasing threat to the residential United States. In 1987, 53,000 fires
consumed more than two million acres. By October 1988, almost...show more content...
On the actual day of the fire, the fire planners will again check such conditions as wind and
moisture content in the vegetation. The wind direction will determine where the fire is started. Fire
crews start the burn with a device called a drip torch. A drip torch is a can of fuel with a
flame–carrying wick at the end. When the crewmember tilts the wick toward the ground, a flame
streams out and ignites the vegetation. Most of the effort that goes into a prescribed fire is making
sure that it is contained in the boundaries set for the fire. Firefighters and fire suppression equipment
are near the site if the fire grows out of control (www.nps.gov/wica/fir–why.html, pgs. 1–3).
While not all the effects of prescribed burns are known some are very evident. The first of these
common effects is that vegetation and fallen dead material are burned creating an open forest floor.
This eliminates any fuel that could contribute to a high intensity fire in the future. When the fire
burns the organic material in the forest, nutrient rich ash is left behind. When the first rain comes,
the nutrients in the ash dissolve into the soil for the new plants to use. This process is called
nutrient recycling. These nutrients left in the soil are a good source of food for the young plants
that will begin to grow back. Another outcome of prescribed fire is that new growth begins
immediately after the fires have been extinguished. Within

Personal Metaphor Writing Assignment
Fire is one of the few elements that does not exist in a natural state. In order to exist it must
consume, transforming matter and changing the world. It is unforgiving and resolute in its effort
to grow larger, and burns with intensity and passion. I am fire. In pursuing my goals I can be
relentless, perhaps to the point of disillusion. Such relentless spirit is fueled with zeal, a "fire" that
one has to be careful not to put out. It is due to these qualities that I am akin to flame, qualities I
will further explain over the course of this essay.
By nature, fire is aggressive and relentless. It is hot, spreads rapidly, and before you know it you
have a blazing inferno on your hands. I am not aggressive in the sense that I enjoy fighting (though
perhaps that's not entirely true as I do wrestle and box), but in that I am relentless in pursuing my
goals. To be relentless does not mean to neverwant to give up, to not feel fear or doubt; to be
relentless is to continue onward despite those pressures, despite failure. I have failed many times
in my life already, and will undoubtedly have many more failures as time progresses. In spite of
this, for each of those failures lies either a success or a lesson, and so I do not fear failing again. I
will surely not enjoy it, but I will not fear it. Once you have failed there is nowhere to go but up.
For example, very recently I had a wrestling tournament where I did not do as well as I would
have liked to. I let my nerves get to me, and they drastically affected my performance. While I
would have loved to have done better, I now understand what I need to work on and what I will
work on to do better in the future. Winning gold at a tournament is always a great feeling, but I do
not learn as much from those successes. Failure is what allows me to grow and have the success I
seek. It is in my nature to not give up that I am fire, working with effort to keep myself ablaze.
Fire, in its effort to spread and conflagrate, can become its own undoing. It may spread itself too
thin and thus putter out. I find that in wanting to try and have new experiences and generally
improve as a person, I often spread myself too thin. I have a habit of

Attributes of Fire
It was a bright and sunny day in mid–July, not a cloud in sight. I could feel the intense heat against
the back of my neck as I rode my bike along a remote mountain trail with my friend entail. We were
heading back towards the campgrounds after a long day of fun and adventure. As the beautiful sun
set across the horizon I realized that with the setting of the sun came the end to a long day full of
energy and livelihood. The very sun that made me sweat earlier that day gave me the the ability to
see and experience my surroundings. The light from the sun granted me the ability to see where I
was going on my bike, as it allows everyone to go about their daily lives with little to no thought
whatsoever.
After the sun had set my stomach began to rumble, signalling that dinner time was fast
approaching. That night we made a campfire and whipped up some good ol' fashion hot dogs. As
I was eating my hot dog I wondered, why is it that meat must be cooked? Looking at it now, I
know that it has to do with the fact that food is easier to digest when cooked and that humans have
evolved to the point where we need cooked food in order to gain more energy. As hours passed by
the sunny summer day became a sheer cold night. The only thing that was keeping all of us warm
was the heat being emitted from the campfire. The campfire brought the whole family together.
Many scary as well as funny stories were told that night. It was not until years later that I realized
that a

Fire Protection Challenges Fire protection challenges for a city within a city had been the major
issue in every jurisdiction. For example in Las Vegas, the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino's
expansion dealt with greater challenge with improving on fire protection and evacuation plans in case
of any major fire disaster. Several fire protection issues arisen during the constructions where the

Lastly, the law required installation of fire sprinklers systems on public occupancy and building
within the echelon of 150 or more with the exception of religious places that had existing mounted
alarm structure. The biggest contribution of this fire disaster was the ignition of the pyrotechnics in
the backstage and the uneducated patrons on the band 's act or presentation. Some of the decisions
making with problems were minor for example of assistance of untrained staff, delay of egress
process, non–existing fire sprinkler systems in the building, inadequate exit fire doors and over the
maximum limit capacity inside the building. If all these major and minor corrective actions were
implemented before the show, then this tragedy is nowhere to be at reported. However, the next
article on the World Trade Center (WTC) terrorist bomb attack in 1993, the fire prevention system
suppressed the damage caused by explosion but the evacuation path was not followed correctly due
to panic and unfamiliar of the evacuation route. NFPA studied the incident and developed training to
all major cities in the preparation management of facility and improvement of proper emergency
evacuation planning. The plan was among the most effective procedure during the second WTC
terrorist attack. The evacuations

Some of the safety hazards that are listed in Chapter 7 Fire Prevention would be electrical fires,
flammable liquids, poor housekeeping, ingestion, incorrect use of fire extinguishers, bleeding,
choking, and forklifts. There are many dangers in the work we engage in every day but its
rewarding if we follow the right safety rules. These are some of the safety hazards but there are
many more that are not listed. The ones listed are the ones I feel most important in the workplace.
These are listed in Chapter 7 because they are potential hazards for the following reasons: electrical
fires are caused by defective wiring or overloading a...show more content...
A fire prevention plan is mandatory for most businesses because it can save lives as it provides
essential rules to follow in case of an emergency. A fire prevention plan must be in writing, be kept
in workplace and made available for employees to review. A fire prevention plan must include: a list
of all major fire hazard, proper handling and storage procedures for hazardous materials, potential
ignition sources and their control and type of fire prevention necessary to control each hazard.
Also it should list the name of employees responsible for maintaining equipment to prevent or
control sources of ignition of fires. Proper route of escape toward nearest exit is also something to
keep in mind. Elevators are off limits because if a fire is burning it could burn up some important
wires to the elevator and you would not want to be caught in an elevator.
In conclusion I can use all of this research I have learned in my personal work places in the future.
Now that I know all of the safety measures I will enforce them at the workplace. Safety saves
employers money, improves productivity, and reduces legal costs. I am not in the field yet but I
know about all of the safety measures that are needed to know so when I do step into the field I
will be overly prepared. I hear about a lot of people and there accidents and what they could have
done to prevent the incursion.

I. Introduction Fires are one of the few calamities of which we can prevent. Besides the efforts of the
Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the passing of the Revised Fire Code or RA 9514 in 2008,
fires are still one of the leading man–made disasters in the Philippines. In 2011, there had already
been several fires like the incident last February 7 which left 3000...show more content...
The new Fire Code also contains provisions of administrative sanctions that can be given to BFP
personnel who are not properly implementing their jobs (Dollente, 2011).
"Fire" is defined as a "rapid burning of a combustible material with the evolution of heat and
usually accompanied by flame, and is used by human beings. Uncontrolled fire remains to be one
of the major causes of death and property damage in today's society. Fires do happen on a frequent
basis in industry and other arenas" (Schneid, 2000:9). Schneid talks mainly on preparedness when
these incidents happen and some strategies about other disasters as well.
March is the Fire Prevention Month in the Philippines. The BFP announced several fire safety
precautions to help manage fires. Despite these precautions, the BFP stated that most
establishments, notably in Baguio City, are fire safety violators. In relation to this, there have been
a series of fires here in Metro Manila, notable of which was the fire that engulfed the houses in
Agham Road last February (Dar, 2011). The problem of fire during these months seems to occur
every year.

Fire Prevention Essay
Fire prevention is a term being heard more and more today in America. It is starting to become a
standard in today's fire departments. Fire has the ability to keep us warm and also has the ability
to make us homeless. As we grow as community and the technology changes, Fire Prevention needs
to be made more of a necessity in our homes today. More homes are being built out of lighter
material along with being built closer and closer together. Each can lead to extreme destruction,
homes being lost, people being displaced, and even death. Why should we not protect homes and
defend them against an enemy that can attack at any minute? Fire prevention needs to start in the
home and then be carried onward in our lives. There are very...show more content...
Today we have moved beyond young men in street rattling wooden noise makers, technology has
given us a new kind of fire alarm. There are 2 main kinds of fire alarms: ionization and
photoelectric. Ionization alarms sound more quickly when a flaming, fast moving fire occurs,
photoelectric alarms are quicker at sensing smoldering, smoky fires. There are also combination
smoke alarms that combine ionization and photoelectric into one unit, called dual sensor smoke
alarms. Most of the fire alarms are powered by batteries which in order for the alarm to work, need
to changed regularly. They provide early detection, and thus warning, of the fire. But they take no
action on the fire itself.
Wet stuff on the Red stuff Something that was introduced in commercial buildings and places of
large quantities of people, have made their way into our homes. Fire sprinklers are being installed
into residential buildings as a normal item. In a report by The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition,
sprinklers typically reduce chances of dying in a fire and the average property loss by one–half to
two–thirds compared to where sprinklers are not present. The same website notes that if both fire
alarms and fire sprinkler are installed in a

  • 1. Essay On Fire Prevention Fire Prevention Through Infrared Scan of Electrical Equipment Electrical Fires According to the latest statistics from NFPA's report on "Fires in Industrial or Manufacturing Properties", found here: http://www.nfpa.org/news–and–research/fire–statistics–and–reports /fire–statistics/fires–by–property–type/industrial–and–manufacturing–facilities /fires–in–us–industrial–and–manufacturing–facilities, electrical distribution and lighting equipment caused 11% of fires and accounted for 15% of direct property damage in industrial or manufacturing facilities from 2009 to 2013. A key way to prevent electrical fires is through predictive maintenance to detect the onset of a condition that could eventually lead to a fire, then correcting that...show more content... Figure 1 – Infrared Image NFPA 70B– Section 11.17 provides guidance on the use of infrared scans to determine the condition of various elements of an electrical power distribution system and to provide information that is used: 1.To determine whether any corrective maintenance or replacement is necessary or desirable 2.To confirm the ability of the element to continue to perform its design function adequately 3.To chart the gradual deterioration of the equipment over its service life Preparation for Infrared Scan Very little preparation is required of the organization requesting the infrared scan. The thermographer and the qualified electricians opening the panels should follow NFPA 70E– Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. This could include the need for arc flash analysis, training, and specific personal protective equipment (PPE) for all personnel who will be standing in front of open, live electrical panels. [See NFPA 70E– Tables 130.7 (c)(9) (a), (c)(10), (c)(11) for details on PPE required] Infrared Scan Infrared (IR) scans should be performed while electrical equipment is under load, preferably peak load conditions, but not less than 40% of the rated load of the electrical equipment being inspected. • 2. The Fire Essay A dark, smoggy night in the middle of winter, chills were running through the rooms of the house, like a ghost silently coming and silently going. Suddenly, in the distance, there was a faint booming sound like a drum being beaten. The noise soon started to get louder and louder and louder until all that could be heard was the deafening noise. People from houses along the street ran out in their dressing gowns onto the road and huddled together to witness a roaring fire devastating the house of a family living nearby. The owners of the house desperately attempted to remove valuable and sentimental items from the burning wreck, but all was in vain as the glaring fire obliterated their irreplaceable...show more content... Instead, the entire family lay curled up on the dew–topped grass, huddled together, shivering in the frosty, winter wind. They had managed to get very few possessions out of the burning wreck, the night before, but the remainder of their belongings had burned away over the silent, yet lively night. Even though the land itself had been severely damaged, the natural daily events started without delay. Birds were twittering and singing with the voices of angels, filling the air with the sweet sound of nature. They flew around, rooftop to rooftop at amazing speeds. Their feathers ruffled slightly in the breeze and, quite often, they sprung around on their tiny, diminutive feet on the lawns of people, living in the area, searching around for any traces of food for their breakfast. The staleness of the winter air had slowly begun to fade away as the gentle wind carried it away with the smoke. The sun had now fully risen revealing all of its beauty. The hills and moors all shone with the intense sunlight and all the living things in the area woke up to the new day. The horses trotted out of their stables and galloped around the field, like an early morning ritual. The victims of the tragedy also eventually woke up, still with the looks of utter disbelief and dismay on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Fire Emergency Drill CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background Fire safety is everybody's concern. Poor fire safety practices and improper planning for fire emergency can consequently lead to critical situations. This is more threatening particularly for buildings which accommodate laboratories, chemical stores or server rooms. Observance and application of fire prevention principles can help to reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards. Moreover, much emphasis must be put on elaboration of a well designed emergency plan that defines the appropriate procedures to be followed in case of a fire. Implementation and practice of this plan through fire emergency drills is vital. The main focus of this study being importance of fire drills and setting up of an...show more content... • 4. Persuasive Essay On Fire Growing up I was taught to never play with fire as it was very dangerous, so I didn't know what to expect, and I didn't know how my actions as a firefighter would affect the population of John Day, so when I was told following the conclusion of guard school that we were going to a prescribed burn I was shocked. I still had the slimmest idea of how these prescribed burns worked, but I'd soon find out more following the car ride to the burn. There is a lot of irony behind prescribed burns. Such as starting fire to help prevent fire? Sounds fishy, but yet the facts are there supporting it. Prescribed fire has been proven to reduce hazardous fuels, minimizes spread of insects and disease, and recycling nutrients back into the soil furthermore helping promote the growth of new trees, wildflowers, and other plants. (USDA) The main purpose behind prescribed burns is to help aid in Fire prevention and the renewal of our Forests. Overtime without fire exclusion on an ecosystem will become unhealthy and trees will start to become stressed by the overcrowding that is occurring this is one reason we should have prescribed burns. The fires help in wiping out the over populated areas of trees, and also to help wipe out high complexity level snags that certain fallers won't risk cutting down; snag is a term for a dead tree in the forest service. As with taking out dead trees these fires help to take out and/or minimize the rate of spread of certain insects and diseases such as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay on Wildfires A wildfire is any instance of uncontrolled burning in grasslands, brush, or woodlands. Wildfires destroy property and valuable natural resources, and may threaten the lives of people and animals. Wildfires can occur at any time of the year, but usually occur during hot, dry weather. Wildfires are usually signaled by dense smoke which may fill the air for miles around. The National Weather Service, U.S. Forest Service, and State forestry agencies combine to give wildfire probability forecasts. Local radio and television stations broadcast information and warnings on local fire conditions. Wildfires pose an increasing threat to the residential United States. In 1987, 53,000 fires consumed more than two million acres. By October 1988, almost...show more content... On the actual day of the fire, the fire planners will again check such conditions as wind and moisture content in the vegetation. The wind direction will determine where the fire is started. Fire crews start the burn with a device called a drip torch. A drip torch is a can of fuel with a flame–carrying wick at the end. When the crewmember tilts the wick toward the ground, a flame streams out and ignites the vegetation. Most of the effort that goes into a prescribed fire is making sure that it is contained in the boundaries set for the fire. Firefighters and fire suppression equipment are near the site if the fire grows out of control (www.nps.gov/wica/fir–why.html, pgs. 1–3). While not all the effects of prescribed burns are known some are very evident. The first of these common effects is that vegetation and fallen dead material are burned creating an open forest floor. This eliminates any fuel that could contribute to a high intensity fire in the future. When the fire burns the organic material in the forest, nutrient rich ash is left behind. When the first rain comes, the nutrients in the ash dissolve into the soil for the new plants to use. This process is called nutrient recycling. These nutrients left in the soil are a good source of food for the young plants that will begin to grow back. Another outcome of prescribed fire is that new growth begins immediately after the fires have been extinguished. Within Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Descriptive Essay On Fire Personal Metaphor Writing Assignment Fire is one of the few elements that does not exist in a natural state. In order to exist it must consume, transforming matter and changing the world. It is unforgiving and resolute in its effort to grow larger, and burns with intensity and passion. I am fire. In pursuing my goals I can be relentless, perhaps to the point of disillusion. Such relentless spirit is fueled with zeal, a "fire" that one has to be careful not to put out. It is due to these qualities that I am akin to flame, qualities I will further explain over the course of this essay. By nature, fire is aggressive and relentless. It is hot, spreads rapidly, and before you know it you have a blazing inferno on your hands. I am not aggressive in the sense that I enjoy fighting (though perhaps that's not entirely true as I do wrestle and box), but in that I am relentless in pursuing my goals. To be relentless does not mean to neverwant to give up, to not feel fear or doubt; to be relentless is to continue onward despite those pressures, despite failure. I have failed many times in my life already, and will undoubtedly have many more failures as time progresses. In spite of this, for each of those failures lies either a success or a lesson, and so I do not fear failing again. I will surely not enjoy it, but I will not fear it. Once you have failed there is nowhere to go but up. For example, very recently I had a wrestling tournament where I did not do as well as I would have liked to. I let my nerves get to me, and they drastically affected my performance. While I would have loved to have done better, I now understand what I need to work on and what I will work on to do better in the future. Winning gold at a tournament is always a great feeling, but I do not learn as much from those successes. Failure is what allows me to grow and have the success I seek. It is in my nature to not give up that I am fire, working with effort to keep myself ablaze. Fire, in its effort to spread and conflagrate, can become its own undoing. It may spread itself too thin and thus putter out. I find that in wanting to try and have new experiences and generally improve as a person, I often spread myself too thin. I have a habit of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Descriptive Essay On A Fire Attributes of Fire It was a bright and sunny day in mid–July, not a cloud in sight. I could feel the intense heat against the back of my neck as I rode my bike along a remote mountain trail with my friend entail. We were heading back towards the campgrounds after a long day of fun and adventure. As the beautiful sun set across the horizon I realized that with the setting of the sun came the end to a long day full of energy and livelihood. The very sun that made me sweat earlier that day gave me the the ability to see and experience my surroundings. The light from the sun granted me the ability to see where I was going on my bike, as it allows everyone to go about their daily lives with little to no thought whatsoever. After the sun had set my stomach began to rumble, signalling that dinner time was fast approaching. That night we made a campfire and whipped up some good ol' fashion hot dogs. As I was eating my hot dog I wondered, why is it that meat must be cooked? Looking at it now, I know that it has to do with the fact that food is easier to digest when cooked and that humans have evolved to the point where we need cooked food in order to gain more energy. As hours passed by the sunny summer day became a sheer cold night. The only thing that was keeping all of us warm was the heat being emitted from the campfire. The campfire brought the whole family together. Many scary as well as funny stories were told that night. It was not until years later that I realized that a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Fire Protection Challenges Fire Protection Challenge Fire and Explosion Engineering – SSE 607 Professor John Davis July 29, 2013 Fire Protection Challenges Fire protection challenges for a city within a city had been the major issue in every jurisdiction. For example in Las Vegas, the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino's expansion dealt with greater challenge with improving on fire protection and evacuation plans in case of any major fire disaster. Several fire protection issues arisen during the constructions where the following: Compartmentation, separation of buildings and occupancies. Lastly, the law required installation of fire sprinklers systems on public occupancy and building within the echelon of 150 or more with the exception of religious places that had existing mounted alarm structure. The biggest contribution of this fire disaster was the ignition of the pyrotechnics in the backstage and the uneducated patrons on the band 's act or presentation. Some of the decisions making with problems were minor for example of assistance of untrained staff, delay of egress process, non–existing fire sprinkler systems in the building, inadequate exit fire doors and over the maximum limit capacity inside the building. If all these major and minor corrective actions were implemented before the show, then this tragedy is nowhere to be at reported. However, the next article on the World Trade Center (WTC) terrorist bomb attack in 1993, the fire prevention system suppressed the damage caused by explosion but the evacuation path was not followed correctly due to panic and unfamiliar of the evacuation route. NFPA studied the incident and developed training to all major cities in the preparation management of facility and improvement of proper emergency evacuation planning. The plan was among the most effective procedure during the second WTC terrorist attack. The evacuations Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Fire Prevention Cody Rosenbaum D. Gasch Intro Health and Safety OSHA February 5, 2013 Learning Journal #1 Some of the safety hazards that are listed in Chapter 7 Fire Prevention would be electrical fires, flammable liquids, poor housekeeping, ingestion, incorrect use of fire extinguishers, bleeding, choking, and forklifts. There are many dangers in the work we engage in every day but its rewarding if we follow the right safety rules. These are some of the safety hazards but there are many more that are not listed. The ones listed are the ones I feel most important in the workplace. These are listed in Chapter 7 because they are potential hazards for the following reasons: electrical fires are caused by defective wiring or overloading a...show more content... A fire prevention plan is mandatory for most businesses because it can save lives as it provides essential rules to follow in case of an emergency. A fire prevention plan must be in writing, be kept in workplace and made available for employees to review. A fire prevention plan must include: a list of all major fire hazard, proper handling and storage procedures for hazardous materials, potential ignition sources and their control and type of fire prevention necessary to control each hazard. Also it should list the name of employees responsible for maintaining equipment to prevent or control sources of ignition of fires. Proper route of escape toward nearest exit is also something to keep in mind. Elevators are off limits because if a fire is burning it could burn up some important wires to the elevator and you would not want to be caught in an elevator. In conclusion I can use all of this research I have learned in my personal work places in the future. Now that I know all of the safety measures I will enforce them at the workplace. Safety saves employers money, improves productivity, and reduces legal costs. I am not in the field yet but I know about all of the safety measures that are needed to know so when I do step into the field I will be overly prepared. I hear about a lot of people and there accidents and what they could have done to prevent the incursion. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Bureau of Fire Protection Essay UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES National College of Public Administration and Governance Diliman, Quezon City PERFORMANCE OF THE BUREAU OF FIRE PROTECTION (BFP): CONTRIBUTIONS TO FIRE MANAGEMENT A proposal submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for PA 199.2 By: Nheo Cervantes Geofel Soriano Adviser: Vicente Mariano September 27, 2011 I. Introduction Fires are one of the few calamities of which we can prevent. Besides the efforts of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the passing of the Revised Fire Code or RA 9514 in 2008, fires are still one of the leading man–made disasters in the Philippines. In 2011, there had already been several fires like the incident last February 7 which left 3000...show more content... The new Fire Code also contains provisions of administrative sanctions that can be given to BFP personnel who are not properly implementing their jobs (Dollente, 2011). "Fire" is defined as a "rapid burning of a combustible material with the evolution of heat and usually accompanied by flame, and is used by human beings. Uncontrolled fire remains to be one of the major causes of death and property damage in today's society. Fires do happen on a frequent basis in industry and other arenas" (Schneid, 2000:9). Schneid talks mainly on preparedness when these incidents happen and some strategies about other disasters as well. March is the Fire Prevention Month in the Philippines. The BFP announced several fire safety precautions to help manage fires. Despite these precautions, the BFP stated that most establishments, notably in Baguio City, are fire safety violators. In relation to this, there have been a series of fires here in Metro Manila, notable of which was the fire that engulfed the houses in Agham Road last February (Dar, 2011). The problem of fire during these months seems to occur every year. Administrative Actions "Disaster Risk Management (DRM)" is the "process of guiding and directing people, local communities and concerned government,

  • 12. Fire Prevention Essay Fire prevention is a term being heard more and more today in America. It is starting to become a standard in today's fire departments. Fire has the ability to keep us warm and also has the ability to make us homeless. As we grow as community and the technology changes, Fire Prevention needs to be made more of a necessity in our homes today. More homes are being built out of lighter material along with being built closer and closer together. Each can lead to extreme destruction, homes being lost, people being displaced, and even death. Why should we not protect homes and defend them against an enemy that can attack at any minute? Fire prevention needs to start in the home and then be carried onward in our lives. There are very...show more content... Today we have moved beyond young men in street rattling wooden noise makers, technology has given us a new kind of fire alarm. There are 2 main kinds of fire alarms: ionization and photoelectric. Ionization alarms sound more quickly when a flaming, fast moving fire occurs, photoelectric alarms are quicker at sensing smoldering, smoky fires. There are also combination smoke alarms that combine ionization and photoelectric into one unit, called dual sensor smoke alarms. Most of the fire alarms are powered by batteries which in order for the alarm to work, need to changed regularly. They provide early detection, and thus warning, of the fire. But they take no action on the fire itself. Wet stuff on the Red stuff Something that was introduced in commercial buildings and places of large quantities of people, have made their way into our homes. Fire sprinklers are being installed into residential buildings as a normal item. In a report by The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, sprinklers typically reduce chances of dying in a fire and the average property loss by one–half to two–thirds compared to where sprinklers are not present. The same website notes that if both fire alarms and fire sprinkler are installed in a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
