of Antislavery Politics, written by James Oakes connected the politics and the point of views of both
Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass towards the issue of slavery and the emancipation of
slaves. Oakes interpretations of both men were very detailed in showing their reason and politics
behind their positions they served in society on the topic of slavery. Abraham Lincoln, the
republican, and Fredrick Douglass, the radical, two incredibly distinct people, yet both shared
similar views towards their hatred on the institution of slavery and their highest hopes for freedom.

served as the 16th president of, the United States he was born in Hodgenville, KY in 1809 and, he
was assassinated in April of 1865 Abraham Lincoln stood for rights of all people although these two

rich man to get into heaven ', and that 'if you are rich, then you must be either a crook, selfish, or

go back a little further in history. You also have to understand that Lincoln was a master politician to
which some would argue has yet to be matched. Lincoln ran with the National Union Party which
wanted to end slavery. Lincoln was not proslavery however he was a politician which dictated how
he handled his beliefs in the public eye. When the Civil War broke out it was not about slavery it

battle was basically a draw the North was able to spin it thanks to newspaper depicting it as a win.
Lincoln seized this opportunity to send the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. By doing this
he opened the door to his power of Commander and Chief of the United States Army. The timing of
this document was also quite timely. It was sent out 5 days after the battle of Antietam and just

its infancy in the late 1900's. Their continued success is due to companies' ability to adapt different

as a mix of both outcome–oriented and stable styles, with a hefty dose of people–oriented cultures,

In 1895, engineer, inventor, and businessman John C. Lincoln started Lincoln Electric Company.
His brother James would join him shortly, in his business endeavor, starting in 1907 (Sharplin, A
1989). James managerial style would most closely be described as people–oriented. He once said
"Labor and management are properly not warring camps; they are parts of one organization in which
they must and should cooperate fully and happily." (Sharplin, A 1989) Early on, he created the
Advisory Board, a committee made up of both employees who were elected by their peers and upper
