takes on the mission of cremating his friend Sam McGee, and he is then haunted by the memory of
his friend to do so. Finally the narrator in The War of the Worlds is lost in the ruins of the U.K trying
to get back to his wife after the Martians attack. All three of these characters were driven by the idea
of a better life and in that pursuit they realize what is most meaningful. Bedford, a bankrupt
businessman, pursues a crackpot inventor to the moon in hopes of finding gold and becoming rich
from the very substance their space vehicle is made of, Cavorite. Bedford states, "Not one of its ten
thousand uses will not make us rich"(Wells 1). Bedford knows that Cavorite is a highly rare
substance that is precious. It is a sure way of becoming rich. Bedford believes this substance will
make him rich, but it does not. He then travels to the moon with Cavor, the inventor, in search of
"sulfur, ores, gold" (Wells 3). His greed grows as he thinks of more ways to become rich, thinking it

The four massive moons of Jupiter were discovered by Galileo Galilei, around 1610 and they were
the first group of objects found to orbit another planet. The names of these objects that were
discovered by Galileo come from the lover of Zeus, the supreme god of the Olympians. These
objects are among the largest objects in the Solar System with the exception of the sun and the eight
other planets, with a radii larger than any of the planetary–mass objects that are neither a planet nor
a natural satellite. Galileo's discovery of these moons showed that the telescope is an important tool

On reading Franz Cumont introduction it is obvious he is scathing in his comments
towards the practise of astrology. Along with his contempt of the continuing growth
in the belief of astrology and how, throughout humankind, intellects, academics and
