A Formal Analysis of Potential Career Choices
A Formal Analysis Of Potential Career Choices
Introduction A formal analysis of the characteristics and outlook for two possible career choices –
Policeman vs. Lawyer – is a valuable tool in the decision–making process used by an employment
candidate to make a successful selection between them. New entrants into the job market face a very
competitive environment and training (or re–training) for jobs is frequently expensive and time
consuming. Therefore there is a definite need to make one's career decisions using a comprehensive,
formal analysis in order to promote a successful and satisfying career choice. Background
information was gathered by a search of peer–reviewed articles from governmental and professional
journal sources in the literature. These articles provided several important variables to be considered
in the methodology, including: (a) candidate gender; (b) candidate ethnicity; (c) educational level;
(d) physical demands; (e) mental/analytical demands; (f) pathways to advancement; and (g)
employment outlook. These decision variables are identified for each potential career choice and
then compared and contrasted between the career options. A conclusion is then reached as to a
recommended "best fit" option relative to a candidate's career goals and interests.

therapy does not always deal with injured or mentally troubled people. Three types of therapy that

motor skills is the focus of this therapy. Occupational therapists set a goal for their patients which
enables them to have more "independent, productive, and satisfying lives" by teaching them how to
perform daily functions without the aid of others. Some of these functions may include eating,
getting dressed, or using the bathroom. Exercises that improve balance, coordination, trunk control,
dexterity, and basic muscle movement are used towards a person's road to an easier lifestyle.
Occupational therapists work mainly with people who have disabilities. These may include people
with spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or people who have had a stroke
("Occupational").
Occupational therapy is my current major of study, so I am doing volunteer work for several
therapists right now at Parent–Child Services in West Knoxville. It is very interesting to sit and

thought to be dead, but was brought back to life. His focus is on balance and coordination right now.

Disadvantages Of Occupational Information
An occupational information data base of occupational information help individuals identifies with
specific skills, tasks, and occupations that are available. Individuals have the opportunity to explore
employment opportunities that are suitable to the skills they possess. In addition, it inform
individuals of the necessary skills they may need to attain, improve for a specific job and notify the
level of education needed to seek employment. Advantages of the data base allows the individual to
become "more actively involved in the career guidance process" (Zunker, 2012, p.180). Individuals
will have the opportunity to seek more information, receive adequate feedback immediately, and can
access the data base anywhere at any given time. Also, it offer support to individuals when trying to

One thing to consider is learning about a specific animal or illness during college and possibly work
with an experienced vet in that area during a two year internship (Fact Monster). As briefly state
before, the requirements to become a vet are getting your Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M. or
V.M.D.) at an accredited college of veterinary medicine, and having a state license (Occupational

Types of Vets Typically vets specialize in one type or group of animals. The most common is small
animal vets, which take care of animals like cats, dogs, bunnies, and other usual house pets. Small
animal vets usually own a clinic or part of a clinic, working in a private practice. They normally
have scheduled hours and appointments are made. Their days are spent interacting with owners and
examining animals in a clinical setting. The other common group is rural, zoo, and farm animals
which are usually categorized as large animal vets. This is a much different job than small animal.
Most large animal vets travel to the animal instead of the animal coming to them. They most
commonly work with zoos and farms. It is also much more dangerous because most of the animals

Reflection On Career Development
A. This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages
students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests.
Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their
strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future career paths. Some of the specific aspects of
career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and
obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and
teaching students where and how to obtain information about post–secondary options. In this lesson
students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the
appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that
are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources
in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders
to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking
about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I
also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic
development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as
well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an
inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self–esteem and promotes a
sense of self–awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will
understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they
wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options and
opportunity post high school graduation.
B. In today's world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson plans.
Technology helps keep children engaged and we are now living in a world where technology is all

A Formal Analysis of Potential Career Choices A Formal Analysis Of Potential Career Choices Introduction A formal analysis of the characteristics and outlook for two possible career choices – Policeman vs. Lawyer – is a valuable tool in the decision–making process used by an employment candidate to make a successful selection between them. New entrants into the job market face a very competitive environment and training (or re–training) for jobs is frequently expensive and time consuming. These decision variables are identified for each potential career choice and then compared and contrasted between the career options. A conclusion is then reached as to a recommended "best fit" option relative to a candidate's career goals and interests. • 134. Reflection On Career Development A. This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future career paths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post–secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self–esteem and promotes a sense of self–awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post high school graduation. B. In today's world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson plans.
