The Great Awakening Events were the Stages of Religious...
The great awakening events were several stages of the religious life of the United States. We
identify four stages which are characterized by a Protestant claim plus interest in the religion, higher
members of the evangelical churches as well as religious movements. Notably, the great awakening
to refer to different periods of great religious expansion in Protestant Christianity in the United
States. One of the forerunners of the great awakening was his pioneering Edwards, but like all
religious revival is no doubt that this originated in both the social and emotional events of his time
and place as the reaction progress of materialism in the colonial culture . The great awakening was
like a revolution for change and profess religious revival in which the sanctity of religion is
defended and transmitting a religious revival across the population.
The First Great Awakening began in the 1730s. Edwards was involved in revivals and the ministers
of various evangelical Protestant denominations choose to support this cause. The first awakening
was a role played an important role in the democratic thought of the same way of believing freedom
of information should be shared fully and without control. So this awakening that represent first

sought greater emotional response congregations and his saving grace. The First Great Awakening

The Amish Religious Subcultures
There are many religious cultures, and within those cultures, there are subcultures. Subcultures are a
cultural group within a larger group that branched off and have different interests and beliefs than
those of the larger group. The Amish, Mormon and the Jehovah Witnesses are among the strangest
subcultures because their beliefs separate these subcultures from any other Christian denomination.
The Amish are one subculture that has certain beliefs that separate them from other Christian
denominations. The Bible influences their idea of the way they should dress; Therefore they believe
that modesty is humility and what they wear helps display their faith. Amish men and boys only
wear dark solid color clothing with cut vest jackets. They do not wear belts, buttons, and jewelry
because of its flashy appearance and boastfulness it displays. Females of the Amish community are
to wear calf–length solid color dresses with either a black or white aprons. On their heads, they have
to wear prayer caps. These prayer caps allow the women to pray whenever they want to, because
they are not allowed to pray by men without it. Amish women are never to cut their hair and the
Amish men do not grow their hair out; however, they can grow facial hair once they get married.
There are many rules on what the Amish can and cannot wear . Modesty is great, however to that
extent other Christians will disagree. Other Christians believe that no matter what you wear, God
will not love you less.

Christian Denominations
ruary 8, 2017
Why are there so many denominations? There are approximately 38,000 different Christian
churches today this can be very confusing to someone seeking a relationship with God, but in 1
Corinthians 14:33, it encourages those not to be confused because God is not the author of
confusion but of peace. Denominations can be traced back to the first century, during the time of
Paul Where he briefly talked about the divisions in his first letter to the Corinthians. Paul says how
it is not okay to have divisions in the church. There are so many different Christian denominations
and for someone who is interested in Christianity this maybe confusing and/or seem like a weak
point. Most people who are venturing into the religion ask why does ... Show more content on

Some people love worshipping in an upbeat loud music with difference color lights all around,
whereas, someone else may prefer the good ole classic hymns. Everyone is wired differently and all

wired and thy like to express their love for God and learn in a creative way, but the one who likes
the hymns better may prefer an in depth bible study straight from the bible. Serving others is one of

us to know what were the structures and order of the Gentile churches of his day. He also wanted
today's church to know the normative structures and order as well. Jesus was exceptionally clear on
how he wishes His church to be organized and managed here on earth in His word. Jesus first
wanted us to know that he is the head and highest authority of the church. "And he is the head of the
body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he
might have the supremacy" (Colossians 1:18 NIV). Paul during his time delegated authority to help

Pine Grove Free Christian Ideals And Beliefs
Weapons, such as guns or knives, are not innately evil, but rather serve whatever purpose a person
chooses for one. This remains true for more than just physical tools. Ideals and beliefs have been
used throughout the ages to justify actions, good and bad alike. For example, Christianity was used
commonly during the crusades as a justification to slaughter thousands of people for the purpose of
reclaiming the 'holy land.' Though this one belief has been used broadly for negative actions such as
that extreme example or even something is frivolous as the picketing of funerals by Westboro
Baptist Church, it has also been used to better the world. The church I belonged to, Pine Grove Free
Methodist Church, made its best efforts to assist its surrounding community by volunteering at the
local homeless shelter and running charity events for starving children in Africa. Furthermore,
interpretation and practice truly differentiates the diverse groups within Christianity from their
stereotypes. However, to better understand Christianity and Free Methodist denomination I
belonged to, one must understand their foundations and common practices within. Unlike most
groups where a person joins that respective community by choice, an individual is usually either
born into Christianity or brought into it through a close friend or family member. On rare occasions
a person seeks out this belief by themselves, usually under the guise of searching for a purpose in
their life. In a lot of ways

The Spiritual Gift Of Apostles And Prophets
Introduction The Word of God instructs Christians that "the body of Christ" is "built on the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone" (Eph. 2:20).
Nevertheless, the debate is still on going if the office of the apostles and prophets ceased during the
"Apostolic Age" or if it has continued on to the present day. This research paper will offer the
Charismatic Movement opinion that advocates the interpretation of modern day apostles and
prophets. A history of Charismatic theology will be provided. A survey of modern–day apostles and
prophets will be examined. An assessment of these viewpoints will be explained and the conclusion
will close out the research paper. How to uncover your spiritual gift is an important start for every
believer to further the body of Christ. Every spiritual gift is a reflection of God's nature that is
within every believer, and understanding these gifts is imperative. The spiritual gift of apostle and
prophet was the first and most important gift given after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus
Christ. Over the last 1,800 years the government of the church, mostly the legal structure of Roman
Catholic Church and Protestant Churches has had little to say about apostles and prophets. However,
in more recent times apostles and prophets have been reemerging and taking their place in
leadership within the church. This research paper will try to help the reader come to a conclusion on

The Protestant Denomination Of The United States
Christianity is one of the many religions practiced most vigorously in the United States. Being the
most observed, it ranks at Eighty–three percent (83%) of the national religious population, says
Gary Langer from ABC news. Although the Christian community reeks of dominance through their
vast diversity in denominations, their large presence ironically also poses as one of the many
reasons why it stands just equally as polarized and counterproductive. By the 1830s, the Protestant
denomination which I am personally familiar with, had begun a few violent attacks against the
Catholic, because of their republican values. Later in the same decade, the Protestants again ignited
fire into a convention, here in Massachusetts related to difference in views. Within these 35 diverse
Christian denominations, 50,873,000 members are Roman Catholic (Catholic) hence the largest.
Other equally functional denominations are Baptist, Pentecostal, and several others; says a recent
American Religious Identification Survey. (35 Largest Christian Denominations in the United
States). While there are numerous varieties of their divide, the onset of Christian community
emphatically, traces to only one unified community. Since its establishment in the 1st century, the
Christian community was founded on the doctrines of Jesus of Nazareth, which rather contributes to
the wellbeing of communities, regardless of whether their views aligned with theirs or not. Starting
with the apostle Paul, several

Paul refers to many church leaders as Thessalonica for their hard work in the Lord. He asks that they
hold these leaders in the highest regard in love because of their work (Longenecker, R. N. 2002. p.
84). The overseers are those who serves the church as elders, bishops and deacons, "So Christ
himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people
for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith
and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the
fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11–13 NIV). There was no absence of organization in the office of
the church.
So why are there so many denominations? Here are a few names of some denominations that many

The audience at a Baptist church is much more
interactive than at a catholic or orthodox church. After Pastor Victor's sermon had ended, many
headed downstairs for fellowship and refreshments. My experience at Central Baptist was
extremely welcoming and comfortable, and I would not mind attending again.
The word 'Orthodox' takes its meaning from the Greek words orthos, which means right
and doxa, which means belief. Hence the word Orthodox, which means 'right thinking' ("BBC –
Religions – Christianity: Eastern Orthodox Church"). Eastern Orthodoxy arose after the 'Great
Schism' between Eastern and Western Christianity. There are several different views between
Eastern Orthodoxy and other Christian denominations, like theophanies from the Bible, the Holy
Spirit, and the resurrection of Christ. In the Orthodox Church, the bible is almost the same as the
bible in Western Christianity churches, except the New Testament is based on the ancient Jewish
translation into Greek which is called Septuagint ("BBC – Religions – Christianity: Eastern
Orthodox Church").

Essay On Protestant Denominations
There are many different Protestant denominations represented in the United States and many of
them are suffering with declining numbers. According to the Pew Research Center (2017)
approximately 76 % of American considers themselves Protestant in denominations. Three
Protestant denominations: Pentecostal, Baptist, and Lutheran will be discussed to find out the
principal reasons for the decline. Pentecostals have a strong belief that faith is a powerful experience
and emphasizes that God speaks directly to the believer through the Holy Spirit. Speaking in
tongues, prophecy, and healing are supposedly how members know the Holy Spirits presence and
God are moving within them. Pentecostals creed follows the written word of the Bible and that the
word of God is factual. "The Pentecostal Christian tradition centered on the uniqueness of Jesus as
Lord and Savior, the work of the Holy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe that a person can be saved only by the grace of God. The Lutheran church believes that
their decline is due to not following evangelical practices of revivals because they believe it makes
too much of a political statement. Members believe that attendance is down and needs to get back to
the core beliefs and benefits of the church. Protestant denominations have a challenge ahead of them
to increase the numbers of members. They need to pay attention to the early warning signs like less
attendance. Think about both long–term changes and short–term because short–term fixes work
right away, but for the health of the church it's important to look at the big picture. Change is
difficult for many, but experiment with changes and finds one that works for the community to help
increase numbers. Not being able to conform to the cultural changes will continue to include
declines in attendance in the Protestant denominations.

The Pentecostal Denomination
The Pentecostal denomination isn't so different from what we believe from the Reformed
perspective. For example, they believe in the Trinity, that Jesus was the Son of God, and that Bible
is their main authority. However, not everything is the same. Some of the things that they believe
differently from the Reformed perspective include infant baptism, speaking in tongues, and what
their worship service looks like. First of all we need to understand what it mean to be Pentecostal.
Without understanding that, we can't fully understand why they believe what they believe. Colleen
Jenkins, a pastors wife, informed us that being Pentecostal means, "The Holy Spirit lives in us and
empowers us to live as God wants us to live. He was prophesied in ... Show more content on

To Pentecostal's, baptism is that they can't make the deacons of salvation of themselves as infants,
so they shouldn't be baptized until they know for themselves that they want to commit their life to
Christ. The Pentecostal denomination teaches that you should be baptized in water after salvation,
symbolizing a public stand to your decision. They believe that baptism is more of a symbol of the
person committing themselves to Christ, instead of God claiming the child as his own son or
daughter. To make a compression, baptism to them is like Profession of faith to the Reformed
perspective. They will also make profession of faith usually at the time, they're baptized. Finally, the
last main difference between the Pentecostal church and the Reformed perspective is the way we
worship. The Pentecostal church will have about 30–45 minutes of song, followed by a prayer of
special needs and requests, then 30–45 minutes of a sermon, and finally a time to search their hearts
and personally respond to what the Holy Spirit is convicting them of or correcting them

The Doomed Denomination : American History
The Doomed Denomination Throughout American history, the United States Mint has coined
several denominations that would now be considered "odd" or "strange" by the general public: half
cent, two cent, three cent, half dime, twenty cent, quarter eagle, three dollar, half eagle, eagle, and
double eagle. At the time, however, many of these were seen in everyday circulation, a completely
normal denomination. Each of them had a purpose behind its inception and a practical use after
mintage. For example, the two cent piece was coined during and after the American Civil War to
address the shortage of small denomination coinage. The three cent piece was minted to make
purchasing postage more convenient, which was priced at three cents at the time. One of these
denominations stands out from the rest: the twenty cent piece. It holds the honor of being the
shortest lived circulation denomination in United States history. This, however, should not come as
a surprise; the denomination was doomed from the beginning. The Western Dilemma The West had
a few issues that led to the inception of the twenty cent piece, one of which was the large supply of
silver. Following the passage of the Mint Act of February 12, 1873, production of the silver half
dime and silver dollar ceased, reducing the demand for silver by the government. Around this time,
several "large new deposits of silver were being discovered in the West," increasing the supply of
silver and decreasing its value (Anderson). In

Three Main Denominations Of Christianity
Christianity
Christianity is the world's largest religion with over 2.5 billion adherents. That's about a third of the
world's population. Christianity is a broad concept because of all the denominations that make up
the religion. There are around 34,000 denominations of Christianity worldwide("Christianity
Facts"). The three main denominations of Christianity are Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and
Protestant("What are").The rest branch off the three main denominations, for example the Baptist
religion branches from Protestant as well as Methodist, Lutheran, and Protestantism ("What Are").

After the resurrection of Jesus Christ and his commision to his disciples, Christianity spread from
the Jews to the Gentiles(Slick). For example the Roman Catholic beliefs include the special
authority of the pope. The second largest Christian denomination is Eastern Orthodox this branch of
religion believes it's the divine preexistent nature of Christ. It is based on the life, death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christians read, study and adhere to the teachings found in the entire
Bible. Christianity is laid out in the first testament, although Christians accept and study the old
testament as well since God was presented in both testaments. The old testament foretells Jesus
coming. Also, Christians gather to worship God on a regular basis.

The Shack By William P. Young
"Evangicalism" in The Shack Despite its messages in regard to religion, faith, and God which have
touched many people, The Shack by William P. Young has been denounced by many conservative
Christian critics and writers, some who have gone so far as to call the book "heresy" (Woodbridge

content of this book and how conservative Christian readers look at it. The divergence of viewpoint
on The Shack represents an interesting matter as such a conflict might be seen as negatively
affecting the popularity of this book, but that has not been the case. Analysis of The Shack will
focus on the the two different reactions to this book, positive by many personal readers but negative
by conservative Christian readers. To begin with, one has to recognize these two sets of readers

Christian readers bring their theological education and experiences to their reading. For this reason,
they might be considered to approach the reading of the novel from a distinctly biased background.

The Bible: The Denominational Dilemma
The Denominational Dilemma I live near Montrose, Colorado, an inconsequential city of a mere
twenty thousand inhabitants. Within this reasonably small town, a total of thirty–six distinct
churches serve those who profess to know Christ. The astounding variety of denominations in the
United States certainly evidences itself in Montrose. In stark contrast, these divisions did not even
exist among the Christians of the first century A.D. Many denominational splits occur because
Christians clash over authority or disagree on doctrine. I believe that churches should, first and
foremost, recognize Christ as the sole head, avoid petty man–made divisions over slight
discrepancies in man's interpretation of the Bible, and yet not hesitate to disassociate ... Show more

Believers need to avoid disunity at all costs unless the arguments concern the fundamentals of the
Christian faith. As time goes on, more and more divisions unfortunately occur over trivial matters. I
believe that, regardless of its denomination, every church should look to the Bible as the only source
of spiritual guidance. In 1 Corinthians 2:1–2, Paul explains, "And I, when I came to you, brothers,
did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided
to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." We as Christians should not
interpret the Bible based upon man's understanding; rather, we must meditate upon the Word and
allow the Holy Spirit to convict our hearts. I look forward to the heavenly day when all believers
can worship and glorify our Father in pure

The Denomination For The Jim Crow Laws
The denomination for the Jim Crow Laws first originated in the mid 1800s from a character in a
Minstrel Show. The Minstrel Show was one of the first forms of American regalement ever
engendered and took place in 1843. The exhibition was performed by successors of African
American musical composition and dance routine actors. The first Minstrel Show was in Virginia
and commenced by a group of four men from Virginia who all painted their faces ebony and
performed a minute musical composition and dance skit in a minute theater in Incipient York City.
Thomas Dartmouth Rice, a white actor, performed the Jim Crow Minstrel Show. Rice's inspiration
emanated from an older ebony man whom would sing and dance in Louisville, Kentucky. Rice's skit
ended in the same chorus as the old ebony mans musical composition which went like this "Wheel
about and turn about and do jis so, Eb"ry time I wheel about I jump Jim Crow.". In 1832 Rice's
musical composition and dance routine took him through Louisville to Cincinnati the through
Pittsburgh and Philadelphia then conclusively to Incipient York City. Determinately, Rice performed
throughout Europe as well as London and Dublin. He had a sizably voluminous following with the
Irish community.

Effect Of Change During The Post Independence Period
Chieftaincy has continued to experience pressures of change during the post–independence period.
The introduction of the central government system in Ghana interfered in the institution of
chieftaincy and reduced much of the authority and the power of chiefs (Boadi 2001, 20). However,
despite these two major changes, chieftaincy is still very important in Ghana. Moreover, those
pressures did not affect the religiosity of chieftaincy, which have always served as a hindrance to the
involvement of Christians (Safo–Kantanka 1993, 53).
Christianity in Ghana

Today the notion of traditional practices like ancestor worship contradicting Christianity is central to
the discussion of chieftaincy and Christianity. For example in Ghana home movies, traditional
indigenous practice like ancestor worship and the pouring of libation is seen as backward and
unholy. In her article, "Between Customs and Christianity," Naomi Wellings states,
Many [Christian chiefs] had faced criticism from other Christians who believed they could not carry
out the various sacrifices or drink offerings to ancestors required of them – traditional spiritual
customs which imply a belief in the spiritual power of the dead to change life for the living and
which some Christians view as idolatrous. (Wellings 2006)
Christian chiefs face the dilemma of whether to embrace Christianity and forsake all traditional
religious practices or denounce Christianity? There are different views regarding whether a
Christian can become a chief. The issue of concern regards to the following questions: Is it possible
for a Christian to be a chief and still fully be committed to God and follow the teachings and
commandments of God? Is it sinful to be a Christian and a Chief? Should the church allow a
Christian to become a traditional chief? There are different views regarding the topic of chieftaincy
and Christianity.

The Ordination Of Women And The Church
When I was in a seminary in South Korea in 2008, more than one–third of students were women. As
almost all of the female students belonged to a denomination which did not allow women to be
ordained, they eagerly looked forward to the change in the denomination's regulation. The
denomination finally enacted a provision of women ordination through a general assembly's vote at
the end of 2011, my women colleagues could go through an ordination process. However, there are
still lots of women concerned about their gloomy future because their respective denominations
have not approved women's full participation in the church ministry.
In fact, the discussion on the ordination of women in the church is a worldwide issue because there
are many Protestant denominations as well as the Catholic Church which have excluded women
from ordination. The opponents of the leadership demonstrated by women in the church have
pointed out three representative texts in the Bible as their rationales: 1 Corinthians 11:2–16, 14–34–
35, and 1 Timothy 2:8–15. In this regard, some advocates of women ordination accuse the objectors
of sexual discrimination. However, the dissenters' real problem is not just their way to understand
gender but their biased way to interpret and apply the Bible to our context. Thus, as a defender of
women ordination, I will articulate what the scripture truly speaks to us about this issue, counteract
the opponents' criticism based on reasoned analysis of the Bible, and

The Christian Community At Large Talks About Unity
It seems like––in first world countries especially, and America in particular––Satan has largely been
successful in dividing the Church. Not only have Christians been broken into factions, sometimes
called denominations, but individuals in a single congregation are often isolated from one another.
On a single street, we may find two distinct congregations of similar beliefs, made separate by
something trivial as differing styles of worship. In a single pew, there may be two people who have
no spiritual influence in each others ' lives because they belong to different social sets. And these are
just the superficial matters––we haven 't even considered divisions over Scriptural interpretations, or
sin, or damaged relationships. The Christian community at large talks about unity. We (mostly) have
a good sense of humor about light–hearted jibes across denominations and the stereotypes
associated therewith. But how many of us reach out and develop friendships outside of our study
group (or clique, or church)? How many churches are actually serving together, outside of their own
denomination? How many Baptists would fellowship with Pentecostals, or Protestants with
Catholics? Hang on a minute! I can 't really expect Protestants and Catholics to get along. We 'll
have to call it good at civility. Firstly, there 's a long history there, not all of it pretty. Secondly, have
I read the doctrine of either side lately? Do I even understand the insane and radical thing I just
dared

Impact of Second Great Awakening on Modern Society
Impact of the Second Great Awakening in Modern–Day Society
The Second Great Awakening laid the foundations of the development of present–day religious
beliefs and establishments, moral views, and democratic ideals in the United States. Beginning back
in late eighteenth century and lasting until the middle of the nineteenth century,1 this Protestant
awakening sought to reach out the un–churched and bring people to a much more personal and vivid
experience of Christianity. Starting on the Southern frontier and soon spreading to the Northeast, the
Second Great Awakening has also been associated as a response against the growing liberalism in
religion – skepticism, deism, and rational Christianity.2 Although the movement is well–known to

Two of these denominations were the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints and the African
Methodist Episcopal. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints – commonly known as
Mormons was founded by Joseph Smith; he was inspired to create a new church faction by the
revivals he experienced in the western area of New York called the "Burned Over District–"
implying it had been "scorched" by so many revivals. Although not regarded as a splinter off from
an existing Protestant denomination but a restoration of primitive Christianity having distinctive
post–biblical doctrines, the Mormon Church is now a flourishing, worldwide denomination. On the
other hand, during the revivals, Baptists and Methodists converted large numbers of blacks.
However, because of the mistreatment they received from their fellow believers, under the
leadership of Richard Allen, the black population broke away from the Methodist church while
creating their own denomination; the African Methodist Episcopal.10 Both churches mentioned
above, having developed and sprouted out other denominations over the years, still stand even
today.
While new religious ideas fanned out and denominations proliferated, social activism, in response,
also began to escalate. The Second Great Awakening stirred the initiation of

The Amish Culture And Subcultures
There are many cultures and within those cultures there are subcultures. Subcultures is a cultural
group within a larger group. That have different interest and beliefs. than those of the larger group.
The Amish,Mormon and the Jehovah witnesses are among the few strangest subcultures. These
subcultural groups are the strangest because of their style, beliefs and hobbies. That separate these
subcultures from any other Christian denomination.
The Amish have certain beliefs that separate them from other Christian denominations. The bible

Worldview : My Concept Of Religion Within My Worldview
Worldview
What is my worldview? What is my concept of religion within my worldview? I have had a long
journey of growth and of struggle in my desire to find God. Starting from a young age, I had many
questions concerning God and how involved he was in my life from a Protestant Christian
perspective, to having what I would call a personal experience of the love of God as a child, which
put me on the path to look for him. Just when I think I had God figured out, it's as if my worldview
got flipped upside down. So, my journey has been one of a constant changing worldview, never
finding full comfort in any one area, denomination, or even religion. From a desire to be right within
the particular denomination I was in, to finding out other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Church of God viewed itself as the chosen of the Christian God and all other Protestant
churches including other religions were missing out on God's truth. I enjoyed many relationships
with others outside of the church who were from different denominations and religions and started
to question what I had been taught. This led to the church questioning my questions and did not
understand why I was asking these questions. I had come to a place in my life where the God that
they spoke of no longer made sense to me and I could not understand how I just so happened to be
saved and everybody else missed the boat, so I decided to move on and continue my search.
During this time, I continued to look for God within the Christian tradition and came across a very
intelligent Christian professor. Because I thought the Church of God was missing intelligence I
thought that I had found what I was looking for within this professor, finally somebody who could
provide me the truth. Within my mindset I thought that I would find the perfect truth if I only kept
searching and in this man, who always was very wise and seemed to understand the deeper things of
life, I thought that I had found it, finally the gold I was digging for. This man's view of God was so
much deeper than that of the Church of God and relieved my pain of feeling that the Christian God
was angry at me because I could not keep his commandments perfectly. God all of a sudden

It is not difficult to figure out what the liberal arts are; all it took was a simple google search and the
definition was brought up instantly. Liberal arts are academic subjects such as literature, philosophy,
mathematics, and social and physical sciences as distinct from professional and technical subjects. I
am not majoring in any of these subjects and I hardly have any classes such as these in my schedule

If I am going to become a leader in the church and continue to be a firm believer in God, I should
probably learn more about the Protestant religion that I am a part of. Even though I grew up in the
church and a Christian family, there is still plenty about this religion that I do not know about. This
class has already greatly helped my understanding of certain aspects of Christianity. Before this
class, I had never even heard of Bebbington's Quadrilateral or the Wesleyan Quadrilateral and I also
definitely did not know what the apostles' creed was. I have already learned a great deal of new
information about the quadrilaterals and I look forward to learning about the creed; although, I am
not great at memorization so we will wait and see how that part of the class turns out. I have
attended a nondenominational church my entire life so I do not know much about too many of the
Protestant denominations and I believe it will be interesting to gain knowledge of some of them in
this class. Good leaders usually need to have knowledge and be smart in order to lead well, so I
hope this class will lend me new knowledge, that way I can become a leader in the church and not
lead people astray, but lead them with confidence and know that I am helping other people in their
walk with Christ just as this class should help me with my walk. Honestly, I do not know what
denomination (if I even pick a denomination) I will become a part of after I am done with college,
but I am expecting this class to help me narrow down the choices. I do not think it will matter what
denomination I choose though, since I am sure that God will help me prosper and grow in whatever
type of church I decide to plug into once I graduate. I deeply hope this class will also help me to
prepare for contributing to civil society. I

Presbyterian Denomination Of Christianity
Presbyterian Denomination of Christianity
The Presbyterian Church is a branch of Reformed Protestantism established by John Knox. This
variant of Christianity derives its name from Presbyterian form of ecclesiastical polity. The church is
governed by representatives of elders or ministers. It also primarily follows Calvinism since Knox
was in Geneva along with Calvin and took his teachings back to Scotland where Presbyterian form
of church started. Protestant Reformation was due to several reasons including distrust in papacy,
Western Schism, corruption of priests and bishops, and Renaissance humanism.

Catherine Parr. However, the pope at the time did not approve of this. Because of this, he passed Act
of Supremacy in 1534 and made the king the head of Church of England. This did not affect
Scotland because it was about 70 years before the two kingdoms were united. In Scotland, John
Knox started as a Catholic priest. Historians are not very clear about the earlier life of John Knox
but in 1546, he turned away from Catholic and embraced reformation probably provoked by
Wishart's death. George Wishart was a reformist who fled to Scotland in 1538. Knox became one of
the closest associates of Wishart and deeply rooted in Protestantism. In 1546, reformists forcefully
took a garrison to take refuge. Scotland called for France for help and Knox was captured as a
onboard slave for a French galley for nearly two years. Knox was released in 1549 and returned to
England to take refuge. He was appointed one of royal chaplain for Edward VI. His position was
changed due to the reign of Mary I, so called Bloody Mary. She restored Catholicism to England
from 1553 onwards. John Knox fled to Geneva in 1554 and met Calvin. He learned more of
reformed theology and Presbyterian polity. There he wrote a series of tracts on political
disobedience to idolatrous rulers, misogynist view of women's rights to rule, and right

whose denominational origins lead back to a rural part of Kentucky in what was called the
Restoration Movement, initiated by reformers who yearned for a primitive, apostolic form of

David Edwin Harrell, Jr.'s "The Agrarian Myth and the Disciples of Christ in the Nineteenth
Century" as well as "The Sectional Origins of the Churches of Christ" magnificently provide readers
with a thoroughly researched historical context relevant to Southern religious history in particular.
In the former article, Harrell discusses, "At the heart of the myth of the garden," or the agrarian
myth, "was the conviction that rural life was superior to urban life." For many in the Christian
Church, Harrell demonstrates that they sought to initiate the "millennial hope" via the garden myth
ideology, but in time, "The most fervent millennialists in the movement by the end of the century
were the supporters of the new industrial order. Many still believed that the American farmer was a
specially prepared instrument of God, but it was perfectly obvious that he was neither gaining in
influence nor improving his status in society." Harrell, elsewhere, delved further into this urban
versus rural idea, and how it, along with class and geographical contentions, affected the schism that
divided the Disciples of Christ (Christian Church) into two major factions, one conservative, leading
to the "Church of Christ," and the other liberal, retaining the Disciples of Christ name. As helpful as
Harrell's article on sectionalism is, he also explained how Virginia was a bit of an anomaly in the
South, where liberals "won virtually all of the churches," when

False Denominations
The Problem:
Most advertisements present a woman with long luxurious lashes with the promise that the mascara
will make them look just like the models. Well, that's not always just mascara you see on their
lashes. In most advertisements, the mascara on their lashes is accompanied by a strip lash to get that
full, long lash look. Yes, most models are wearing some form of a false eyelash.
The Solution:
There are 3 different types of false lashes on the market to help you achieve the "full" lash look:
♥ Strip: This type lasts 24 hours and is applied with a lash adhesive that only holds for a limited
amount of time. This is one long strip applied to the lash line. Seen in every magazine ad and
commercial where eyes are the focus.

(Schedule your lash appointment now at www.leialove.com )
♥ Semi–Permanent: These last 45–90 days depending on your lash cycle. This process involves
taking a single eyelash and attaching it to each individual lash on the eyelid. If you are missing
natural lashes, or do not have a thick enough set of lashes there is not much these can do to give a
fuller look. They are applied with the strongest adhesive out of all three types of lashes, in which
your eyes have to be closed during application and can take up to 2 hours depending on the
professional. This is the most natural looking extension and should only be applied by a trained
professional.
Don't want the maintenance of false lashes? Maybe you have allergies and are constantly rubbing
you eyes, sty prone, or have other eye issues, but still want a great lash look? Try 3D Fiber mascara!
This is a two part system of gel–like mascara and fibers that lengthen and thicken the appearance of
the natural lashes. This is worn and applied like traditional waterproof mascara and can be taken off
with eye makeup remover each night. It lasts 3–6 months depending on how often it is exposed to
air (if you wear mascara every

Jesus. There had been a time, when everything she did was because she was trying to earn

Even though Patty had been confirmed when she was 15, and she went to church, she understood
the law better than forgiveness. Patty's parents seldom attended church and the family never prayed

Patty's husband, Marty, expected her to make the decisions about church. After they were married
they had joined a UCC church that Marty's family belonged to. Marty would share bible stories with

special services. Their marriage was struggling and their 6 year old was not doing well in public

forgiveness. She prayed daily, asking God to forgive her sins.

Jehovah's Witnesses: Christian Denominations
Religion, in current society, continues to hold importance and have a strong following despite many

opinions and perceptions on this religion, which is why, today, there are several different Christian
denominations in the world. While coming from the same base beliefs, these denominations can

For example, The Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ, according to St. Mark, in the New Testament states,
"John was in the desert baptizing, and preaching the baptism of penance, unto remission of sin"

baptism does not undoubtedly allow one to salvation, rather it is just a profession of ones decision to
follow Jesus Christ (Taylor 4). Similarly, Jehovah's witnesses also believe in this idea, however, they
believe that baptism indicates one decision to follow their god, Jehovah, rather than Jesus Christ.
Jehovah's Witnesses believe that baptism is very important in their religion and is a "requirement for
all who want to have a relationship with Jehovah God" (Watch Tower 175). Although both
denominations practice baptism, the meaning behind this act is directed to a different being. While
the practice may be very important and similar, the message behind why both groups practice this is
changed when it is directed to a different God. Thus, this is another aspect in which these groups are

equally leading the church with men. Today, many denominations have different positions when it

I now believe that women should be given the same opportunities of leadership as men within
ministry. I use the word opportunity because I believe that women, as with men, must have a calling
and wisdom and understanding of Christ in order to become a teaching pastor. It is important to
understand that education is a large factor of choosing a pastor as well. Furthermore, if she has not
received a call to the ministry, or if she does not have the proper education and understanding, I
would not support the idea of that woman in a pastoral position. I do not believe that it is necessary
to hire women solely for the purpose of gender diversity. There are many verses that bring up
controversy. The most commonly argued verse is 1 Corinthians 14:34–35, which says, "Women
should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as
the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home;
for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." (Bible) Many people read this verse

The Bible states that one day you will own your doctrine. The denomination of one's faith affects
them in their life and eternity. Therefore, Christians need to recognize the importance of sect
distinctions. While I am trying to complement each denomination, I am highly in favor of the
Southern Baptist denomination and how it holds true to the Word of God and His plan for His
children. John 3:16 explains the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. I want to recognize
how different or similar the plan of salvation is for each of the three sects. The Bible warns us to be
careful about what we believe, which is our doctrine, because we will teach others what we know.

Individuals are quick to tell where they attend church, because they take pride in it. Most of the
church population finds themselves going to what church is popular within the community or to a
family church. A religious sect usually correlates to someone's secular life in some manner.
Religious denomination is weakly related to both types of educational goals, and seems to have no
real influence on occupational goals.
What is crucial about church membership is that it defines one's denomination. The same pride that
is found in church membership needs to be found within the sect. For denomination is far more
important than church membership. People tend to not research and earnestly go to God to lead
them to the right sect. The more one knows about denominations, the more they can choose one that
fits according to their spiritual philosophies. It is so important for believers to know why they
believe what they believe.
Denominations have such an impact on people within their sect that they actually set the rules the
people live by. Such as is it okay to drink or is it not okay. Some argue that denominations have no
part in one's relationship with Jesus Christ. While one's relationship with Jesus Christ is exactly
that–a relationship between an individual and Jesus Christ, one's denomination helps promote and

The Four Reasons Why The Christian Denominations
Ever since the start of Christianity, the church has constantly been dividing into different sects, also
known as denominations. Some churches for example let snakes loose while they take communion,
while others have professional football on television during services. While these traditions may
seem strange to some, they are simply the norm for others. The question we must then ask ourselves
is "why?" Today, not only will we find out why there are so many denominations, why this matters,
and what the Bible says about the different denominations.
When dealing with the Christian denominations, we must go back and start with the reformation.
This reformation, commonly referred to as the Protestant Reformation, split reformed Christianity
from Catholicism. As a result of this reformation, Christianity broke off into four major
denominations: Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, and Baptists. Each one of these churches
finds a different part of Christianity to focus on. The denominations do not stop there however.
People have created even more offshoots of Christianity based on their interpretation of the
Scriptures, some being valid, while others are completely bizarre. Over time, over forty–thousand
different denominations have been established worldwide! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Christianity is about 2,000 years old, beginning around 30 CE with the death of Jesus Christ. Over
the centuries, Christianity has divided into vast amount of denominations, because some Christians
worship in different ways and believe in different parts of the Bible. According to
arabamericanmuseum.org, each denomination has its own distinctive beliefs or practices, but they
are generally considered a branch of mainstream Christianity if they agree on core doctrines like the
divinity of Jesus Christ and the authority of the Bible. The three main largest denominations of
Christianity are Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy and Protestant, with Catholicism being the
largest. Christians believe that there is only one god, but that there are three elements of God,
including the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They believe these are 3 forms of the same God, similar
to how water can exist in 3 forms of liquid, gas and solid. They also believe that 2,000 years ago in
Israel, God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to earth to save humans from the consequences of their sins.
He gave his life by being crucified and on the third day rose from the dead. Faith in Jesus Christ
himself, not just in his teachings, is how the Christian experiences joy and a meaningful life. Jesus
claimed to be the God in human form, rather than prophet who is pointing to God. He performed
miracles, forgave people of their sin and said that anyone who believed in him would have eternal
life. He made statements like, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in
darkness, but will have the light of life." (biblehub.com ) The Christian holy book is called the

Saivism: The Four Denominations Of Hinduism
As shown there are many gods that serve as representatives for things such as creation, destruction,
protection and preservation. However, this does not make the Hindu religion polytheistic. Instead it
expresses the many ways that they worship their Supreme Being, Brahman. In fact, there are four
major denominations of Hinduism; like there are many different denominations of Christianity. The
four denominations each worship a different version of Brahman and chose to follow different texts
and paths of practice (Monastery "The Four Denominations of Hinduism"). The first denomination
is Saivism. Their version of a Supreme Being is Siva, the compassionate one. Saivism is the oldest
of the denominations, therefore it is the oldest religion. It has no true recorded beginning and roots
can be traced back for more than 8,000 years, previous to the advanced civilizations of the Indus
Valley. According to texts there has never been a time where this type of worship didn't exist

The Stages of the Great Awakenings in Early American Religious History

  • 1. The Great Awakening Events were the Stages of Religious... The great awakening events were several stages of the religious life of the United States. We identify four stages which are characterized by a Protestant claim plus interest in the religion, higher members of the evangelical churches as well as religious movements. Notably, the great awakening to refer to different periods of great religious expansion in Protestant Christianity in the United States. One of the forerunners of the great awakening was his pioneering Edwards, but like all religious revival is no doubt that this originated in both the social and emotional events of his time and place as the reaction progress of materialism in the colonial culture . The great awakening was like a revolution for change and profess religious revival in which the sanctity of religion is defended and transmitting a religious revival across the population. The First Great Awakening began in the 1730s. Edwards was involved in revivals and the ministers of various evangelical Protestant denominations choose to support this cause. The first awakening was a role played an important role in the democratic thought of the same way of believing freedom of information should be shared fully and without control. So this awakening that represent first African–American to accept Christianity which was desire of Anglican missionaries. This cause sought greater emotional response congregations and his saving grace. The First Great Awakening American spiritual movement would lead to national ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Amish Religious Subcultures There are many religious cultures, and within those cultures, there are subcultures. Subcultures are a cultural group within a larger group that branched off and have different interests and beliefs than those of the larger group. The Amish, Mormon and the Jehovah Witnesses are among the strangest subcultures because their beliefs separate these subcultures from any other Christian denomination. The Amish are one subculture that has certain beliefs that separate them from other Christian denominations. The Bible influences their idea of the way they should dress; Therefore they believe that modesty is humility and what they wear helps display their faith. Amish men and boys only wear dark solid color clothing with cut vest jackets. They do not wear belts, buttons, and jewelry because of its flashy appearance and boastfulness it displays. Females of the Amish community are to wear calf–length solid color dresses with either a black or white aprons. On their heads, they have to wear prayer caps. These prayer caps allow the women to pray whenever they want to, because they are not allowed to pray by men without it. Amish women are never to cut their hair and the Amish men do not grow their hair out; however, they can grow facial hair once they get married. There are many rules on what the Amish can and cannot wear . Modesty is great, however to that extent other Christians will disagree. Other Christians believe that no matter what you wear, God will not love you less. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Christian Denominations ruary 8, 2017 Why are there so many denominations? There are approximately 38,000 different Christian churches today this can be very confusing to someone seeking a relationship with God, but in 1 Corinthians 14:33, it encourages those not to be confused because God is not the author of confusion but of peace. Denominations can be traced back to the first century, during the time of Paul Where he briefly talked about the divisions in his first letter to the Corinthians. Paul says how it is not okay to have divisions in the church. There are so many different Christian denominations and for someone who is interested in Christianity this maybe confusing and/or seem like a weak point. Most people who are venturing into the religion ask why does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. The Ultimate Question The Ultimate Questions First let me start off my paper by giving thanks. I would like to thank you Lord for loving me enough that he thought I was worth saving and worth keeping. He gave his life for mine, if this wasn't so my presences would not be here. He put into place a Church and its leaders that helped with my feedings of the words of God and as I listened my life began to change. My relationship with him grew personally as well as my spiritually again thank you. Being in this course the History of Ecclesiology and Polity, it has taught me many things about the difference in denominations of the church. In the Pauline letters Paul who was a minister of Christ Jesus wanted us to know what were the structures and order of the Gentile churches of his day. He also wanted today's church to know the normative structures and order as well. Jesus was exceptionally clear on how he wishes His church to be organized and managed here on earth in His word. Jesus first wanted us to know that he is the head and highest authority of the church. "And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy" (Colossians 1:18 NIV). Paul during his time delegated authority to help co–work and represent him in the administration of his churches. For example the Missionary letter of Timothy "We sent Timothy, who is our brother and co–worker in God's service in spreading the gospel of Christ, to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pine Grove Free Christian Ideals And Beliefs Weapons, such as guns or knives, are not innately evil, but rather serve whatever purpose a person chooses for one. This remains true for more than just physical tools. Ideals and beliefs have been used throughout the ages to justify actions, good and bad alike. For example, Christianity was used commonly during the crusades as a justification to slaughter thousands of people for the purpose of reclaiming the 'holy land.' Though this one belief has been used broadly for negative actions such as that extreme example or even something is frivolous as the picketing of funerals by Westboro Baptist Church, it has also been used to better the world. The church I belonged to, Pine Grove Free Methodist Church, made its best efforts to assist its surrounding community by volunteering at the local homeless shelter and running charity events for starving children in Africa. Furthermore, interpretation and practice truly differentiates the diverse groups within Christianity from their stereotypes. However, to better understand Christianity and Free Methodist denomination I belonged to, one must understand their foundations and common practices within. Unlike most groups where a person joins that respective community by choice, an individual is usually either born into Christianity or brought into it through a close friend or family member. On rare occasions a person seeks out this belief by themselves, usually under the guise of searching for a purpose in their life. In a lot of ways ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Spiritual Gift Of Apostles And Prophets Introduction The Word of God instructs Christians that "the body of Christ" is "built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone" (Eph. 2:20). Nevertheless, the debate is still on going if the office of the apostles and prophets ceased during the "Apostolic Age" or if it has continued on to the present day. This research paper will offer the Charismatic Movement opinion that advocates the interpretation of modern day apostles and prophets. A history of Charismatic theology will be provided. A survey of modern–day apostles and prophets will be examined. An assessment of these viewpoints will be explained and the conclusion will close out the research paper. How to uncover your spiritual gift is an important start for every believer to further the body of Christ. Every spiritual gift is a reflection of God's nature that is within every believer, and understanding these gifts is imperative. The spiritual gift of apostle and prophet was the first and most important gift given after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Over the last 1,800 years the government of the church, mostly the legal structure of Roman Catholic Church and Protestant Churches has had little to say about apostles and prophets. However, in more recent times apostles and prophets have been reemerging and taking their place in leadership within the church. This research paper will try to help the reader come to a conclusion on whether ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Protestant Denomination Of The United States Christianity is one of the many religions practiced most vigorously in the United States. Being the most observed, it ranks at Eighty–three percent (83%) of the national religious population, says Gary Langer from ABC news. Although the Christian community reeks of dominance through their vast diversity in denominations, their large presence ironically also poses as one of the many reasons why it stands just equally as polarized and counterproductive. By the 1830s, the Protestant denomination which I am personally familiar with, had begun a few violent attacks against the Catholic, because of their republican values. Later in the same decade, the Protestants again ignited fire into a convention, here in Massachusetts related to difference in views. Within these 35 diverse Christian denominations, 50,873,000 members are Roman Catholic (Catholic) hence the largest. Other equally functional denominations are Baptist, Pentecostal, and several others; says a recent American Religious Identification Survey. (35 Largest Christian Denominations in the United States). While there are numerous varieties of their divide, the onset of Christian community emphatically, traces to only one unified community. Since its establishment in the 1st century, the Christian community was founded on the doctrines of Jesus of Nazareth, which rather contributes to the wellbeing of communities, regardless of whether their views aligned with theirs or not. Paul refers to many church leaders as Thessalonica for their hard work in the Lord. He asks that they hold these leaders in the highest regard in love because of their work (Longenecker, R. The overseers are those who serves the church as elders, bishops and deacons, "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11–13 NIV). There was no absence of organization in the office of the church. So why are there so many denominations? Here are a few names of some denominations that many have choose to worship with. Some of us attend the Christian Non–denomination, Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist or Wesleyan, Protestant, Pentecostal or Charismatic, and Episcopalian or Anglican, Jehovah's Witness and Mennonite a few that comes to mind. The Protestant Reformation accord during the 16th century and was a schism from the Roman Catholic Church that was initiated by Martin Luther, as well as other protestant reformers (GotQuestions.org). Hence the word Orthodox, which means 'right thinking' ("BBC – Religions – Christianity: Eastern Orthodox Church"). • 11. Essay On Protestant Denominations There are many different Protestant denominations represented in the United States and many of them are suffering with declining numbers. According to the Pew Research Center (2017) approximately 76 % of American considers themselves Protestant in denominations. Three Protestant denominations: Pentecostal, Baptist, and Lutheran will be discussed to find out the principal reasons for the decline. Pentecostals have a strong belief that faith is a powerful experience and emphasizes that God speaks directly to the believer through the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues, prophecy, and healing are supposedly how members know the Holy Spirits presence and God are moving within them. Pentecostals creed follows the written word of the Bible and that the word of God is factual. They believe that a person can be saved only by the grace of God. The Lutheran church believes that their decline is due to not following evangelical practices of revivals because they believe it makes too much of a political statement. Members believe that attendance is down and needs to get back to the core beliefs and benefits of the church. Protestant denominations have a challenge ahead of them to increase the numbers of members. They need to pay attention to the early warning signs like less attendance. Think about both long–term changes and short–term because short–term fixes work right away, but for the health of the church it's important to look at the big picture. Change is difficult for many, but experiment with changes and finds one that works for the community to help increase numbers. Not being able to conform to the cultural changes will continue to include declines in attendance in the Protestant denominations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Pentecostal Denomination The Pentecostal denomination isn't so different from what we believe from the Reformed perspective. For example, they believe in the Trinity, that Jesus was the Son of God, and that Bible is their main authority. However, not everything is the same. Some of the things that they believe differently from the Reformed perspective include infant baptism, speaking in tongues, and what their worship service looks like. First of all we need to understand what it mean to be Pentecostal. Without understanding that, we can't fully understand why they believe what they believe. Colleen Jenkins, a pastors wife, informed us that being Pentecostal means, "The Holy Spirit lives in us and empowers us to live as God wants us to live. He was prophesied in ... To Pentecostal's, baptism is that they can't make the deacons of salvation of themselves as infants, so they shouldn't be baptized until they know for themselves that they want to commit their life to Christ. The Pentecostal denomination teaches that you should be baptized in water after salvation, symbolizing a public stand to your decision. They believe that baptism is more of a symbol of the person committing themselves to Christ, instead of God claiming the child as his own son or daughter. To make a compression, baptism to them is like Profession of faith to the Reformed perspective. They will also make profession of faith usually at the time, they're baptized. Finally, the last main difference between the Pentecostal church and the Reformed perspective is the way we worship. The Pentecostal church will have about 30–45 minutes of song, followed by a prayer of special needs and requests, then 30–45 minutes of a sermon, and finally a time to search their hearts and personally respond to what the Holy Spirit is convicting them of or correcting them ... • 13. The Doomed Denomination : American History The Doomed Denomination Throughout American history, the United States Mint has coined several denominations that would now be considered "odd" or "strange" by the general public: half cent, two cent, three cent, half dime, twenty cent, quarter eagle, three dollar, half eagle, eagle, and double eagle. At the time, however, many of these were seen in everyday circulation, a completely normal denomination. Each of them had a purpose behind its inception and a practical use after mintage. For example, the two cent piece was coined during and after the American Civil War to address the shortage of small denomination coinage. The three cent piece was minted to make purchasing postage more convenient, which was priced at three cents at the time. One of these denominations stands out from the rest: the twenty cent piece. It holds the honor of being the shortest lived circulation denomination in United States history. This, however, should not come as a surprise; the denomination was doomed from the beginning. The Western Dilemma The West had a few issues that led to the inception of the twenty cent piece, one of which was the large supply of silver. Following the passage of the Mint Act of February 12, 1873, production of the silver half dime and silver dollar ceased, reducing the demand for silver by the government. Around this time, several "large new deposits of silver were being discovered in the West," increasing the supply of silver and decreasing its value (Anderson). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Shack By William P. Young "Evangicalism" in The Shack Despite its messages in regard to religion, faith, and God which have touched many people, The Shack by William P. Young has been denounced by many conservative Christian critics and writers, some who have gone so far as to call the book "heresy" (Woodbridge 77). Thus, there is apparently a difference between how general readers read and interpret the content of this book and how conservative Christian readers look at it. The divergence of viewpoint on The Shack represents an interesting matter as such a conflict might be seen as negatively affecting the popularity of this book, but that has not been the case. Analysis of The Shack will focus on the the two different reactions to this book, positive by many personal readers but negative by conservative Christian readers. To begin with, one has to recognize these two sets of readers bring completely different backgrounds to their readings of this novel. Of course, the conservative Christian readers bring their theological education and experiences to their reading. For this reason, they might be considered to approach the reading of the novel from a distinctly biased background. Their knowledge and experience is focused on traditional conservative Christian theology and teachings. Such theology and teachings, for the Christian critics of The Shack, have been based on the evangelical tradition in the U.S. in which the salvation of the individual requires the development of an ... Within this reasonably small town, a total of thirty–six distinct churches serve those who profess to know Christ. The astounding variety of denominations in the United States certainly evidences itself in Montrose. In stark contrast, these divisions did not even exist among the Christians of the first century A.D. Many denominational splits occur because Christians clash over authority or disagree on doctrine. In 1 Corinthians 2:1–2, Paul explains, "And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." The introduction of the central government system in Ghana interfered in the institution of chieftaincy and reduced much of the authority and the power of chiefs (Boadi 2001, 20). However, despite these two major changes, chieftaincy is still very important in Ghana. As almost all of the female students belonged to a denomination which did not allow women to be ordained, they eagerly looked forward to the change in the denomination's regulation. The denomination finally enacted a provision of women ordination through a general assembly's vote at the end of 2011, my women colleagues could go through an ordination process. However, there are still lots of women concerned about their gloomy future because their respective denominations have not approved women's full participation in the church ministry. In fact, the discussion on the ordination of women in the church is a worldwide issue because there are many Protestant denominations as well as the Catholic Church which have excluded women from ordination. The opponents of the leadership demonstrated by women in the church have pointed out three representative texts in the Bible as their rationales: 1 Corinthians 11:2–16, 14–34– 35, and 1 Timothy 2:8–15. In this regard, some advocates of women ordination accuse the objectors of sexual discrimination. However, the dissenters' real problem is not just their way to understand gender but their biased way to interpret and apply the Bible to our context. Not only have Christians been broken into factions, sometimes called denominations, but individuals in a single congregation are often isolated from one another. On a single street, we may find two distinct congregations of similar beliefs, made separate by something trivial as differing styles of worship. In a single pew, there may be two people who have no spiritual influence in each others ' lives because they belong to different social sets. And these are just the superficial matters––we haven 't even considered divisions over Scriptural interpretations, or sin, or damaged relationships. The Christian community at large talks about unity. We (mostly) have a good sense of humor about light–hearted jibes across denominations and the stereotypes associated therewith. For many in the Christian Church, Harrell demonstrates that they sought to initiate the "millennial hope" via the garden myth ideology, but in time, "The most fervent millennialists in the movement by the end of the century were the supporters of the new industrial order. Many still believed that the American farmer was a specially prepared instrument of God, but it was perfectly obvious that he was neither gaining in influence nor improving his status in society." Let us sort out them below: Firstly, the Natural Selection. Every creatures has its special characteristics. The characteristics might be better or worse to adapt the living environment. This causes the creatures with worse trait would die out easier, and the ones with better trait would survive and born more descendants which inherit this successful trait. • 35. Women And Women Should Be Taught From The Lord Men and women have equal capability to learn from the Lord. Both men and women can earn an education in ministry, receive a calling from God, and pursue wisdom and understanding from scripture. Many people will argue that women are only given a limited opportunity of leadership within the church. There are many scripture references that clearly explain that women should be equally leading the church with men. Today, many denominations have different positions when it comes to women in ministry, some churches will not allow women pastors, while others encourage women to lead. I think that all women should receive respectful treatment and many opportunities to serve. I believe women should be given the opportunity to lead in any position in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I now believe that women should be given the same opportunities of leadership as men within ministry. I use the word opportunity because I believe that women, as with men, must have a calling and wisdom and understanding of Christ in order to become a teaching pastor. It is important to understand that education is a large factor of choosing a pastor as well. Furthermore, if she has not received a call to the ministry, or if she does not have the proper education and understanding, I would not support the idea of that woman in a pastoral position. I do not believe that it is necessary to hire women solely for the purpose of gender diversity. There are many verses that bring up controversy. The most commonly argued verse is 1 Corinthians 14:34–35, which says, "Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." (Bible) Many people read this verse without knowing the context. This verse was written by Paul, in response to a letter of complaints about uneducated and illiterate women interrupting men in church (Ward). Zenas Bickett, an advocate for women in ministry from the Network, said this about the verse: Possible explanations of what he was prohibiting include (a) chatter in public services, (b) ecstatic ... • 36. Essay On Southern Baptist Denomination The Bible states that one day you will own your doctrine. The denomination of one's faith affects them in their life and eternity. Therefore, Christians need to recognize the importance of sect distinctions. While I am trying to complement each denomination, I am highly in favor of the Southern Baptist denomination and how it holds true to the Word of God and His plan for His children. John 3:16 explains the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. I want to recognize how different or similar the plan of salvation is for each of the three sects. The Bible warns us to be careful about what we believe, which is our doctrine, because we will teach others what we know. 1 Timothy 4:16 tells us to take heed of our doctrine. It is a very important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Individuals are quick to tell where they attend church, because they take pride in it. Most of the church population finds themselves going to what church is popular within the community or to a family church. A religious sect usually correlates to someone's secular life in some manner. Religious denomination is weakly related to both types of educational goals, and seems to have no real influence on occupational goals. What is crucial about church membership is that it defines one's denomination. The same pride that is found in church membership needs to be found within the sect. For denomination is far more important than church membership. People tend to not research and earnestly go to God to lead them to the right sect. The more one knows about denominations, the more they can choose one that fits according to their spiritual philosophies. It is so important for believers to know why they believe what they believe. Denominations have such an impact on people within their sect that they actually set the rules the people live by. Such as is it okay to drink or is it not okay. Some argue that denominations have no part in one's relationship with Jesus Christ. While one's relationship with Jesus Christ is exactly that–a relationship between an individual and Jesus Christ, one's denomination helps promote and lead you in your relationship with Jesus ... • 37. The Four Reasons Why The Christian Denominations Ever since the start of Christianity, the church has constantly been dividing into different sects, also known as denominations. Some churches for example let snakes loose while they take communion, while others have professional football on television during services. While these traditions may seem strange to some, they are simply the norm for others. The question we must then ask ourselves is "why?" Today, not only will we find out why there are so many denominations, why this matters, and what the Bible says about the different denominations. When dealing with the Christian denominations, we must go back and start with the reformation. This reformation, commonly referred to as the Protestant Reformation, split reformed Christianity from Catholicism. As a result of this reformation, Christianity broke off into four major denominations: Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, and Baptists. Each one of these churches finds a different part of Christianity to focus on. The denominations do not stop there however. People have created even more offshoots of Christianity based on their interpretation of the Scriptures, some being valid, while others are completely bizarre. Over time, over forty–thousand different denominations have been established worldwide! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The simple answer is yes. You should know the specific beliefs of the church you choose to go to. Many churches simply differ on minute issues, while others add or remove essential parts of Christianity completely. To spot denominations that are straying from the truth, listen carefully to what they preach. Christians should only go to a church that affirms the true gospel of Jesus. As long as the church does not contradict or add to the Bible, then the decision of which church to attend lies simply in preference and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Three Denominations Of Christianity Throughout the history, religions around the world have played an important part in establishing beliefs and culture. Every area of the world has some kind of religion or belief system. There are many different religions, some are huge and wide spread, some are small with a few people following it, and some are very influential up to a point that, countries establish them as their state religions. According to the Oxford Dictionary Religion is defined as the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. Over the centuries, Christianity has divided into vast amount of denominations, because some Christians worship in different ways and believe in different parts of the Bible. According to arabamericanmuseum.org, each denomination has its own distinctive beliefs or practices, but they are generally considered a branch of mainstream Christianity if they agree on core doctrines like the divinity of Jesus Christ and the authority of the Bible. The three main largest denominations of Christianity are Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy and Protestant, with Catholicism being the largest. Christians believe that there is only one god, but that there are three elements of God, including the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They believe these are 3 forms of the same God, similar to how water can exist in 3 forms of liquid, gas and solid. They also believe that 2,000 years ago in Israel, God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to earth to save humans from the consequences of their sins. He gave his life by being crucified and on the third day rose from the dead. Faith in Jesus Christ himself, not just in his teachings, is how the Christian experiences joy and a meaningful life. Jesus claimed to be the God in human form, rather than prophet who is pointing to God. He performed miracles, forgave people of their sin and said that anyone who believed in him would have eternal life. He made statements like, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (biblehub.com ) The Christian holy book is called the Bible. It reveals God's personality, his love and truth, and how each person can have a relationship with him. • 40. Saivism: The Four Denominations Of Hinduism As shown there are many gods that serve as representatives for things such as creation, destruction, protection and preservation. However, this does not make the Hindu religion polytheistic. Instead it expresses the many ways that they worship their Supreme Being, Brahman. In fact, there are four major denominations of Hinduism; like there are many different denominations of Christianity. The four denominations each worship a different version of Brahman and chose to follow different texts and paths of practice (Monastery "The Four Denominations of Hinduism"). The first denomination is Saivism. Their version of a Supreme Being is Siva, the compassionate one. Saivism is the oldest of the denominations, therefore it is the oldest religion. It has no true recorded beginning and roots can be traced back for more than 8,000 years, previous to the advanced civilizations of the Indus Valley. According to texts there has never been a time where this type of worship didn't exist (Monastery "The Four Denominations of Hinduism"). The second oldest denomination is known as Vaishnavism.
