2. James Bay- Best Fake Smile
• The first video which I decided on using to analysis the camera shots was James Bay, Best Fake
Smile. This artist has very creative and entertaining video, which was something that I wanted
to imitate in my own music video. The camera shots themselves range from establishing shots
of the house or garage as seen in picture three. The central focus is on the young boys character
and he cinematographer expressed this throughout the camera shots, with many uses of close
ups on the boys face and tracking shots of his movements around his house. His expressions
and body language is exaggerated with the quick movement of the camera from him to the
artist as he sings. The camera is used as presenting the shots at either eye level to the
characters or instead lower than them, to instead show they are of some importance in the
video or with the eye level as showing some sort of relatibility with the audience and
characters.
3. George Ezra- Budapest
• The second video I decided on using was George Ezra’s video to his song Budapest. The video is unique in
how is largely uses birds eye view shots to show the mass of people featured throughout the video. This
does not singly pick out and give dominance to one character as gives the connotations of the theme of
equality in the video. However this then changes when the camera moves to mid shots of either the artist
himself of some of the people in the crowd to highlight his performance and also the personalities and
actions of the characters. This is presented in picture 2.The camera shots also include close ups to present
again the specific personalities and also the purpose of each character. As seen in picture 3 which also used
the rule of thirds in the shot.
4. Major Lazer & DJ Snake- Lean On
• The final video I decided on using was Lean on by Major Lazer and DJ Snake. The main theme
which is largely used throughout the video in the symmetry in the camera shots. This is shown
in the rule of thirds as well as the establishing shots of the music video. The cinematographer
also used pan and tracking shots of the artists as they dance and move throughout the video-
this is used to show their importance and add to the entertainment of the video. Furthermore
the camera both presents the artists and dancers in the videos from both and high and low
angles. These shots are used to present the locations and the added features of the entire
video.
