The student created a magazine called "STUDENT Weekly" and chose a school uniform color for the masthead. The front cover features a photo of happy students and three article headlines. The contents page lists selected stories and photos to represent the articles. Strengths include relevant content and clear page references, but weaknesses are indistinct cover lines and an unconventional layout. The student proposes improvements like additional eye-catching cover lines, removing image backgrounds, and adopting a more standard contents page design.
2. - The name I chose for my magazine is “STUDENT weekly”. In designing
my magazine I came up with a list of appropriate names and asked for
responses from various students. I believe this name is appropriate
because it was the one they voted best.
- I chose the masthead colour to represent our school uniform colour
scheme.
- I believe the masthead is now a sufficient size however it was too small in
my previous drafts and I did a lot of editing.

3. IMAGES
This is the main image I used for my front
cover. I think it’s a good size and gives an
indication of what it’s presenting: Students
who are happy about their successful results.
The photo is clear and of a fair quality, though
I do think I could have taken a better image.
There are no extra subsidiary images except
for the barcode which I used to make it more
authentic.
4. - The language I have used is fairly informal to appeal to students
and not an adult audience.
There are three stories featured on the cover.
“Results Day Success”
“Teachers set to dress up for charity- vote for Mr. Nelmes’s outfit!”
“School Musical Auditions!”
- I think these stories are interesting because they aren’t strictly
education orientated. From my questionnaire results I realised
that students would prefer a mixture of content including non-
educational stories and extra curricular activities.

5. LAYOUT AND DESIGN
I think the layout of my front cover is clear, I
have made sure that it’s not crowded by not
adding too many additional images or
coverlines.
It is recognisable as a School magazine as a
result of both image and masthead, and
coverlines. The thing I feel could make it more
easily identifiable is having the two people in
the main image dressed in a school uniform.
6. - My contents page is a single page with selected stories featured in order
for the reader to navigate through the magazine.
It has a clear title on the left hand side , it doesn’t stretch across the whole
page to make room for the images. All articles and page references feature
on the left hand side, whilst photos feature on the right.

7. I took a selection of images to represent my articles:

8. I carried out research into the codes and
conventions of magazine contents pages
and tried to mirror a similar design. I
found that only a selection of items are
usually referred to, not all of them. I also
found that one page is typically used for
a smaller magazine and two for a larger
publication. A selection of eye catching
images are used to attract attention to
key articles which the editor assumes will
be most popular.
LAYOUT AND DESIGN
9. -Strengths:
-the models on the front cover
Reflect my target audience
-masthead is clear
-cover lines are relevant
-clear page references
Strengths andWeaknesses
Weaknesses-
-Cover lines are not clear,
The black text merges with
the black background
-The cover would have
looked more professional if
the background of the
images was removed
-The layout of the contents
page is unconventional
10. -Create more cover lines on the front cover and make them stand out more.
-remove the background main image
-create a more conventional layout, with banners, pull quotes etc.
-Choose a different colour scheme with my contents, and positioning images
better.
How I would improve…
