Mini Case Pepsico
What "grade" would you give Ms. Nooyi for her job performance as a strategic leader? What are her
strengths and weaknesses? Where would you place Ms. Nooyi on the Level–5 pyramid of strategic
leadership and why? I would give Ms. Mooyi a B. The CEO of Pepsico is well informed about the
company's resources and how they are being affected by the external environment. The decisions
that she she made to restructure and diversify the company have definitely positively impacted how
the company is being perceived. Those decisions also provided various opportunities within the food
industry be creating healthier food lines and adding competitive advantage. As for the disadvantages

Support A strategic leader should definitely analyze what affects competitive advantage and how
exactly the company is underperforming. One of the recommendations would be scenario planning.
It would be beneficial to analyze various cases where different product categories can be changed
and to see how will the certain change affect the financial performance of the company. The second
recommendation would be to synthesize all available input from all possible sources– internal and
external and create a strategic vision that will help the company see where they need to make
changes and how those changes will help the growth of the financial. Another recommendation
would be to provide customers the service that other competitors do not provide be it either
discounts or other ways of promotions. This will help differentiate PepsiCo from its competitors. Do
you agree with Indra Nooyi's philosophy that "performance and purpose are intimately linked and
you can't do one without the other"? Support I agree with this statement because I think that purpose
is what provides motivation for the better level of performance. Human sustainability,
environmental sustainability and the whole person at work being the three main dimensions of the
philosophy appeal to a wide range of people. This helps to attract people who care about the
environment and the product and living the life being the part of the company rather than just going

Indra Research Paper
Indra was a god in the Vedas as a strong warrior/thunder god who was important at the time. He was
an example of how leaders should lead their people to win successful battles (Davis 8–9). Because
he was in the Vedas he was probably at least somewhat important before they were created. The
Vedas contain different religious traditions, beliefs, and ceremonies, and of the people passed down
verbally, the chants or rituals (traditionally) performed by the Brahmin caste. Originally they were
separate, but then became combined between 1200–1000 BCE (Davis 8) Although some parts of the
Vedas may have existed before Indra was known to all communities, I placed the Vedas after Indra.

His purpose is to maintain dharma or order in the world (Blurton 111). Bhakti is loving devotion, a
new way that Krishna talks about in the Bhagavad Gita to reach "liberation" (Davis 24). Also a
small character of Veda, Shiva became more important after he was in the Puranas. In the Vedas,
Shiva was the other half of a destructive deity, Rudra. Shiva is seen as opposites such as having a
family but also being in seclusion. While Vishnu is worrying about dharma, Shiva is the one who
shows people how to reach moksha" (Davis 25–26). Later, he and Vishnu become two very
important gods in temple Hinduism. Although goddesses had been around, it was during the fifth to
seventh centuries that they became more "important." The goddesses are sometimes with the male
deities, like Sita with Rama, and sometimes alone like the warrior Durga (Davis 27). Temple
Hinduism is relatively newer in Hinduism (around 700 CE). Although it includes other deities, Shiva
and Vishnu are the main two in focus. At this time, sacrifices are no longer as important as building
temples (Davis

Soma and its Effects Essay
Soma and its Effects Throughout India's long and colorful history, there have been a considerable
variety of groups who have left their mark on the land and its people. One of the most influential,
however, were the Aryans. In fact, some of the Aryan customs still remain in modern–day India,
such as cattle demanding great respect, which stems from the Aryan tradition of using such animals
as currency (Chamberlain). The Aryans were mainly pastoral, relying on agriculture to survive
(Bentley and Ziegler 94). They did not have any sort of writing system; instead, what is known
about them is rooted in oral traditions.. This raises the question of religion. The Aryans believed in
various gods and, accordingly, had songs, praises, hymns, and ... Show more content on

(The Rig Veda).
This demonstrates the helpful benefits of Soma. According to this passage, among others contained
in the Rig Veda, Soma gives its users feelings of great freedom and a general sense of
expansiveness. After ingesting the drug, the user is also said to "know no limits" (Rig 238). This can
help promote a healthy mindset as it relieves feelings of stress. Additionally, even gods are depicted
in the Rig Veda as having been helped by the effects of Soma. One of the traditional stories about
Soma concerns Indra, the "Aryan war god and military hero...who ravaged citadels, smashed dams,
and destroyed forts..." (Bentley and Ziegler 94). One significant feat, however, deals with Indra's
defeat of a dragon who "lived in the sky and hoarded water in the clouds" (Bentley and Ziegler 87).
Prior to the defeat, Indra satisfies his thirst by ingesting copious amounts of Soma. According to the
story, after doing this, Indra goes into battle with the dragon and defeats it by throwing thunderbolts
at it. The dragon, then, releases its storage of rain, which "fill seven rivers that flow through
northern India and [bring] life–giving waters to the inhabitants of the region" (Bentley and Ziegler
87). As a pastoral people, the Aryans most likely tell this oral story to

The Similarities Of Jack Ma And Indra Nooyi
Jack Ma and Indra Nooyi share very common similarities regarding their leadership stories which
appear to be strong catalysts in shaping their leadership purpose. They both came from rather simple
beginnings, Indra was raised by a strict conservative Brahmin family in Southern India and Jack was
repeatedly rejected for his plans of starting an internet company in America. Not deterred by that
experience Jack then returned to China with no money but a solid business idea. While it is clear in
watching them that these are leaders who remain quite humble about their achievements, Jack
especially is someone who happily admits he has made a lot of errors on his path to success, stating
his plans to write the book 'Alibaba's 1001 mistakes, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Along with this they both have excellent cognitive and behavioural complexity spoken of by Quinn
et al, this is demonstrated not only by their successes but having a strong view towards the future of
not only their respective companies but also the sustainability of the world. Indra who states 'I think
we're living in a world and worrying about the level of returns rather than the sustainability of the
returns' (Institute 2014) and also mentioning leaders who 'run the company for only their duration
and leave the next CEO to pick up the debris' (Institute 2014). By putting the company ahead of her
own ego this again draws a strong correlation to the humble nature of Jack Ma and his plan of
sustainability for the people and small business owners of China. Jack appears to be someone who
wishes to change China and ultimately the world for the better, made clear by him saying 'I don't
feel proud of how much money I've made, I feel proud at how much I've been able to help small
business' (Business 2011), and to have people stop him in the street commenting they opened a
small store on TaoBao and they're doing well, it's clear that doing what's best for the people
resonates with Jack strongly, further strengthened by him saying 'When you have 1 billion, that's not
your money, that's the societies trust' (Business

Hindus started organizing larger celebrations that were opened to the public and this has set the

Comparative Leadership Analysis
Leadership has four main functions for success: Planning, Organizing, Leading & Controlling.
Using these functions as well as motivation are what drive successful companies forward. Effective
leaders look at what the company should be doing and innovating by setting a direction, aligning
people, and motivating as well as inspiring those people to accomplish the company's ultimate goal.
Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com's creator and CEO discusses his 10 rules for success and how they are also
the most essential elements of his job in a compilation of interviews created by Evan Carmichael.
The ten rules include have no regrets because you regret what you do not try, follow your heart not
your head because if we let our intellectual selves overrule our passions we will not be happy, invest
more in the product rather than marketing because if you build a great product or service the
customers will talk about it for you. Bezos continues his list saying that you have to pick a good
name, using the original name for amazon as an example of how a name must be easily understood.
Stand for something so that your company and its leadership have a direction and legacy, focus on
the customer and understand their long term wants and needs as well as focus on your passion,
building a culture that is clear to stakeholders of what you want to focus on. Create premium

The Death Of The Western World
If she felt any misgiving, my presence would prevent it from being too late, even at the supposed
last moment... But her look of reply was quite sufficient; she had not come without counting the
cost. Her belief in the Pythagorean doctrine of transmigration was firm and fixed; and she looked
forward, without a doubt, to secure for herself and her husband, by this sacrifice, a new life of
happier existence, and more refined enjoyments than the sordid realities which the world now
offered... This quote, recorded by Richard Hartley Kennedy, a 19th century British surgeon living in
British India exemplifies the almost macabre fascination with the Hindu rite of widow burning
known as Sati that the Western World has developed over the course of the last several hundred
years. Perhaps, this morbid obsession originated with the Western World seeing in Sati a Romeo and
Juliette like expression of true love. Subsequently, the West's fascination can perhaps be credited to
the ensuing human rights controversy that this rite has generated over the course of the past two–
hundred years. Regardless as to the reason of why the West has taken an interest in this rite, I will
attempt in this paper to decipher and interpret this ritual mostly through the lens of a Western
philosopher of religion, Mircea Eliade. Eliade, in his work The Sacred and The Profane: The Nature
of Religion, postulates that for modern men to truly understand religion, they must remove

My Happiness Of Life
I was thinking, "Am I an obstacle on the path of my husband's achievement. He wanted to use me as
the stepping stone for his success. He disregarded my love, affection and romantic overture because
I am a woman."
"Is my self–conceit greater than the calamity of the earth? Is it not better to let me sacrifice my
narrow and selfish notion for the betterment of the mass? I can become the life–giving rain water
sacrificing my body, mind and soul life after life for them. Among those hungry folks are my

Why my determination was quivering after knowing it all?
My heart was the cremation ground of my love. There lied only an ash hill of unloved wife. I
promised to derive elixir on the thought of soma by converting that to the ground for yajna. I have
no idea what waits for me, success or curse.
Whatever it may be the moment for the soma yajna arrived. Waiting causes obstacles.
Page 444
Soma yajna was the best of yajnas. In that only the soma wine was offered, but not milk or cheese.
Hence, everybody including Gautama was concerned. Madhurya told that day, "Dear Sir, it was the
duty of the Devi Ahalya to collect the extracts from the soma leaves. From her childhood, she has
roamed in the forest. She has a deep relation with forest, mountains, river and nature. Soma vine
will not escape her eyes. She got the concentration for it. Remember how Devi Apala got the soma
vine so effortlessly. Please don't worry about the soma and be immersed in the thought of soma. It
was essential in this moment that you adhere to the thought of ultimate offering."
The simple minded Madhukshara spoke soon after Madhurya," Gautama is a yogi. What does he
have as material of luxury? He does not have any attachment to anything except Ahalya."
Gautama felt awkward after hearing that. I got frightened. What did Madhu say carelessly? Am I a
material for indulgence?"
When I stared at her angrily, she felt bad. Madhurya also scolded her, "Even though she is my wife

Thesis Statement: Nooyi's compelling story serves as an inspiration that goes beyond the corporate
sector and transcends across the economic realm. Her massive influence in the business world and
her unique leadership style is what we need to walk down the road to economic recovery in hope of
a better future.
The Unconventional: Strategic and Humble Leader
Nooyi is an unconventional leader of high caliber. She revolutionized and maneuvered PepsiCo'
portfolio, increasing the company's worth and market value. She is a smart risk–taker and a change
agent. Early in her career, she restructured the company by making bold decisions. In 1997, she
made a dramatic move to sell PepsiCo's restaurant business and bottling division. She is a forward–
looking leader who saw the change in consumer habits. She led the acquisition of healthy brands
such as Tropicana, Gatorade, Quaker Oats and Naked Juice.[6] Nooyi entered corporate America at
a time when strategic acuity was a commodity. She considers her strategic skill an asset and used it
to capitalize on the economic downturn. During the recession, PepsiCo continued to reinvest and
bought back its previous bottling divisions. By the end of the year, the company is estimated to gain
$60 billion in revenues with over 300,000 employees worldwide.[7] Nooyi's leadership helped
improve PepsiCo's corporate position today. PepsiCo currently ranks number

Essay on Religious Experience
To experience a new religion is to open one's mind to an entirely new world. For my World
Religions course, I was asked to visit a place of worship for a religion other than what I was most
used to. Upon considering being raised as a Pentacostal Christian, the first idea that came to me after
hearing this was for Billy and I to go with our friend Arjun's family to a Hindu temple–since Arjun
had moved away recently to go to college however, he was unable to attend. On Sunday, February
21, Billy and I joined Arjun's father in his trip to the Hindu temple in Orlando–we had to wake up
earlier than usual for a Sunday but it was for good cause. We arrived at the temple in Orlando just
before 10AM for a prayer service that was difficult to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around the inside of the building were candles, incense, and different statues of what I'm sure were
a multitude of separate Hindu deities. Of course, being relatively new to the Hindu gods and
goddesses, I wasn't able to identify too many, but I did recognize the remover of obstacles, Ganesh–
for what I figure is one rather obvious reason. I could only assume other popular divine figures
including lord Vishnu and the mother goddess Devi resided with these other statues. Eventually it
appeared the priests began lighting candles and pouring milk over Vishnu and Ganesh statues–I
gather this only because Arjun's father gave Billy and I a play–by–play of sorts as we were in the
rear of the room and found it difficult to see everything. People began chanting Vishu's and Ganesh's
names along with other non–English words I couldn't quite make out while still apparently in prayer.
Arjun's father described this part as being more of a specifically focused prayer to the individual
gods. The number of times the chants repeated remains a mystery to me but It certainly seemed to
go on for quite a while Finally, following the chanting sessions, the congregation began singing
hymns in what can be assumed to be the same non–English language. The sound of this was
beautiful–probably because I am used to songs sung in Germanic languages which never give quite
the same feeling–that is, until Billy decided to make a pathetic attempt at

America's Best Leaders: Indra Nooyi, Pepsico Ceo
She played lead guitar in an all–women rock band in her hometown of Madras, India. She was a
cricket player in college. She sang karaoke at corporate gatherings. Today, Indra Nooyi presides
over 185,000 employees in nearly 200 countries as the chief executive of PepsiCo. And she still
performs on stage at company functions.
Nooyi came to the United States in 1978 at age 23 to earn her M.B.A. at Yale, where she worked as
a dorm receptionist–opting for the graveyard shift because it paid an extra 50 cents per hour. Her
parents had told her she was out of her mind and should have stayed in India and gotten married. "I

She is trying to take the company from snack food to health food, from caffeine colas to fruit juices,

beyond the historic trade–off between profits and people. Captured in her artful
mantra–"Performance with purpose"–she wants to give Wall Street what it wants but also, the planet
what it needs. "It doesn't mean subtracting from the bottom line," she explained in a 2007 speech,
but rather "that we bring together what is good for business with what is good for the world."
By 2010, Nooyi has pledged, half of the firm's U.S. revenue will come from healthful products such
as low–cal Gatorade and high–fiber oatmeal. The company will eschew fossil fuels in favor of wind
and solar. It will campaign against obesity.
This is, clearly, not business as usual. "People these days are bringing their principles to their
purchasing," she said in the same speech. "We, in return, are bringing a purpose to our

What Were The Factors That Shaped Indra Nooyi As A Leader?...
Topic: Indra Nooyi– of PepsiCo. "Indra Nooyi– A transcultural Leader" on page 363 (Text).
1. What were the factors that shaped Indra Nooyi as a leader?
Some of the most prevalent factors that shaped Indra Nooyi as a leader, are among the following:
Family background is the initial factor that helped to shape Indra Nooyi into the leader that she is
today. Indra was born in Chennai, India, in 1955. Her mother, Shantha Krishnamoorthy, whom she
considers her first management teacher was a homemaker. Although the family was completely from
a Hindu background, she was sent to a Roman Catholic school. As a result, it was her mother that
introduced the aspect of integration to young Indra by enrolling her in a Roman Catholic school. In
fact, Indra Nooyi actually admits to her mother's encouraging her to become a leader. By telling her
that she could rule the entire country, and to maintain her background strong, her mother fostered
courage and resolve in her daughter. Moreover, although her mother urged her to observe and
uphold her Hindu origins and culture, she also allowed young Indra to exercise her freedom of
choice and to follow her dreams of rising to the top, in life. In addition, Indra's mother helped in
sharpening her mental acuity towards decision making, an ability that she had ever since she was
young. By engaging Indra and her sister in simple competitions for chocolate, Shantha induced
strategic leadership concepts in her daughter, Indra Nooyi, long before she

Short Speech On Rudraksha
I pushed through the mob and stood in front of Indra with no regard to my safety. I have no idea
where I got so much courage and mental power. I think that was due to the influence of my father. I
announced in strong voice, "Hello Indra! I want to remind you that during my graduation ceremony
you had a boon for me to use in the future. Today I want to use it to request you to spare the life of
Rudraksha.
Indra startled me with his thunder like voice, 'Stay away from it Ahalya! Don't misuse your
invaluable boon to save the life of this criminal. Later, this boon will be used for a noble cause"
I besought him with folded hands, "The king of gods! In this creation, no one's life is dispensable. In
the future, Rudraksha could be able to do a lot of great deeds. He is also a patriot and his anger is
not without a base."
"Please don't forsake your invaluable boon for a stranger, Ahalya!", Indra retorted.
"Rudraksha is not a stranger to me. He is the husband of my dearest friend Rucha. He is my dearest
Rudraksha."
"Ahalya! Without Gautama's permission, you cannot accept a favor from me. Now you are
subordinate of Gautama." He ridiculed.
"Soul is not controlled by anyone. Soul is only subordinate to the Supreme Lord. Please fulfill the
prayer of my soul!"
"I can fulfill your prayer Ahalya. In return, you can also give me a boon. You have that power."

The Legacy Of A Legacy
A legacy is defined as something a person leaves behind to be remembered by. But why do you have
to leave it behind? Why must you be dead to have a legacy? A legacy tells your life story: where you
went, what you did, and who you talked to. A legacy is the story that you pass on to your children
and your children's children and the list goes on. In certain cases a legacy is left when you are alive.
People like Michael Jackson, Maya Angelou, and Whitney Houston all made their legacies when
they were alive, they changed the world without even trying. They changed the world by doing what
they do best: being themselves.
Indra Nooyi is one of those legends, she was able to grow up in one of the poorest, most populated
countries in the world, India, and then move to a foreign territory and still make it to the top of the
pyramid by hard work alone. Indra Nooyi, now the CEO of PepsiCo is one of the richest beverage
companies in the world, has shown us that it doesn't matter where you start from it matters where
you go and how you get there.
Indra Nooyi was born in Chennai, India in 1955. Growing up in the late 50's it was such a common
thing for parents to encourage their children to make 100% on everything that they do in school. In
an interview Nooyi stated that "Anybody who got together would say, 'so how is your child doing ',
'what rank '." So because she was raised to always do the best she possibly could in school brought

The Hindu Deity: Vishnu
With over a billion followers and believers, Hinduism continues to be one of the most distinct and
influential religions around the world. The central belief and worship around the Hindu religion
primarily revolves and focuses on the Trimurty (trinity) of Gods, Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu.
Brahma is known as the creator of the universe, Shiva as the destroyer, and finally, the most popular
and influential Vishnu, the sole preserver and protector of the entire universe. Vishnu can be
contextualized as the most authoritative, significant, dominant, and beloved Hindu deity. Associated
in the Rig Veda, which is the most important of the Hindu holy books, The Vedas, Vishnu is
mentioned and glorified numerous times and is a source of great inspiration and hope to all Hindu's
around the world. He represents everything correlated with light, optimism, and hope. Throughout
the history of mankind, Vishnu has come back to earth in the shape of many famous reincarnations
in order to maintain peace and balance throughout the world. Vishnu has truly solidified his role as
the sole benefactor and savior of the universe. Two of his most famous reincarnations include Ram

The other issues is the generic brands that are a much cheaper choice for the consumer as many are

The other threats are the water issues and the poor quality in many locations not just in the United

Character Analysis Of Ravana
Ravana Anand Neelakantan portrays Ravana as a loving father, an inspiring leader and a caring

the reign of the Deva, he leads the Asuras to a better future. Ravana looks upon the great God Indra

The Taj Mahal Statue Of Liberty And Washington Monument
When one thinks about famous monumental structures, the Taj Mahal, Statue of Liberty, and
Washington Monument may come to mind. The Angkor Wat, however, is one of the largest and best
preserved monuments of the Angkor group that most do not think about. This monument was built
in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II in Angkor, which is modern–day Cambodia. This
monument is the world's largest religious structure and measures to be about 400 acres. It is built
entirely of stone, which is rather unique considering the intense details that appear on every surface
of this structure. The building was originally meant to be a means of making claims to political
offices more legitimate. They also wanted the powers of their gods to be protected. "Hindu temples
are not a place for religious congregation;instead; they are homes of the god" (Rod). About 1,200
square meters of bas reliefs are carved on the walls of the Angkor Wat. These bas reliefs represent
eight different Hindu stories. The Angkor Wat also has an expanded enclosed wall to separate sacred
temple grounds from the rest of the city. Early Cambodia was mostly divided into rival states up
until King Jayavarman II founded the Khmer Empire. The Khmer Empire was filled with an
overwhelming amount of thriving agriculture and most Khmers were animists. This means that they
believed that many spirits contained natural phenomenons. Much of the temples in Cambodia were
made of fine stone carvings, which is rather unique.

3. Male leaders put tasks before relationships Men are considered to set tasks before relationships,
while women on the other hand are more people– oriented and focus more on establishing
interpersonal relationships. They are warmer and softer compared to their male counterparts.
4. Male leaders are more inclined to an authoritative style
Male leaders more frequently operate in mediums bound by hierarchy, status, rules and orders. In
contrast, women normally function with connectivity and closeness as paramount. For women,
status and hierarchy are not key and women are not predisposed to giving orders, but rather express
preferences and suggestions which are likely accepted.
5. Male leaders communicate "to–the–point"
Male leaders usually keep it short and sweet. No personal talk, just down to business and go. Female
leaders on the other hand talk on a more personal note while addressing subordinates.
According to Rolf Granér there are general scattered attitudes which make men and women function
differently (Granér, 1994). Those attitudes are the following:
Male properties | Female properties | Result oriented | Relation oriented | Logical | Intuitive |
Independent | Dependent | Focused on competition | Cooperativeness | Restrained | Emotional |
Investigating | Caring | Selfish | Understanding | Powerful | Soft | Bold | Careful |

Arjuna's Daimonion
At first glance, it may seem as though the advice of Krishna and Socrates' daimonion are saying the
same thing, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Krishna wants Arjuna to see the bigger picture
and know how his role affects not only him, but all of those around him. On the other hand,
Socrates' daimonion pushes Socrates to do what is right by preventing him from doing actions that it
perceives as wrong. Contrasting these philosophical texts, Krishna has to persuade Arjuna to follow
his moral duty, while Socrates always complies with his daimonion.
When Arjuna first speaks to Krishna at the beginning of the video, he seems torn on where his duty
lies. If Arjuna chooses to fight, he will go to battle against his family and friends, ... Show more

While Socrates' daimonion doesn't tell him exactly what to do, it does, however, dissuade Socrates
from doing an action it believes is wrong. As Socrates said in The Apology, "You have often heard
me speak of an oracle or sign which comes to me...This sign I have had ever since I was a child. The
sign is a voice which comes to me and always forbids me to do something which I am going to do,
but never commands me to anything". Ultimately, Socrates will heed the warning of his daimonion
over his own reason of thought as suggested by this quote, "Before this, the familiar oracle within
me has constantly been in the habit of opposing me even about trifles, if I was going to make a slip
or error about anything...I have often been stopped in the middle of speech..." (Plato). Based on this,
it seems that Socrates will listen to his daimonion every time it advises him, even from the smallest
of matters and will go as far as to stop talking if his daimonion believes he is wrong. From this, it
can be perceived that Socrates trusts his daimonion's decision and knows that it will steer him
towards the right path. According to this philosophical text, a person should do what they believe is
right, even if they are standing alone. When Socrates is sentenced to death he remarks, "I regard this
as a proof that what has happened to me is a good, and that those of us who think that death

Indra Vs Buddhism
When you look at each world religion and compare one to another, it seems that each one may
superficially seem very distinct. However, reading between the lines of ancient texts and looking for
similarities between beliefs reveals that the world's dominant religions share multiple
commonalities. For instance, each major religion (Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, etc.) has
a general set of rules that guide values and daily action; for example, each system of beliefs inspires
compassion, connectedness, and the notion that there is "god" inside all of us. The subtleties in
religions, however, lie in the methods through which these understandings are related to disciples.
Buddhism–in particular–takes an interesting approach to conveying ... Show more content on

Additionally, while it didn't have a name yet, skillful means were used in societies before Mahayana
Buddhism where the thought is said to have originated. After studying various texts incorporating
upayas, it appears that most lessons have an empathic component connected to it. Pain is an
important expression of empathy, which is often portrayed through a bodhisattva's struggle to realize
the nature of samsara. It's also a means of connection of one person to another, for nobody lives a
life completely devoid of pain. Understanding lovingkindness and compassion towards all sentient
beings is the second major facet of empathy conveyed through Buddhism; with the conception that
everyone is destined to become a buddha, and that it's every buddha's karmic obligation to
encourage this, it's logical that the only way to connect with and help others is to love them as if
they are equal to yourself. Otherwise, biases may be present in certain teachings or treatment.
Lastly, the Buddha instills universal empathy in his disciples by sharing stories or lessons relevant to
their human, worldly condition. While the elements the Buddha spoke about may not exist
everywhere, such as in other worlds or in the Pure Land, attributing elements familiar to humans to
cosmic/spiritual ideas is helpful in aiding comprehension and furthering connectedness. Overall,

(2012, June 27). PepsiCo has adopted the globe's most powerful "go–to–market systems." The
company delivers its products directly from manufacturing plants and warehouses to customer
warehouses and retail stores. Innovative Marketing: It has leveraged its worldwide brand–building
strength to attach with consumers in significant ways and impel the growth globally (Bobby, S. June
27, 2012). Packaging for products has developed into a sign for quality potato chips over the globe
(Bobby, S. June 27, 2012). It has most dominant global snack chip division Frito–Lay by having five
leading snack chip products (Bobby, S. June 27, 2012).
Weaknesses
Investors are not confident, they do not expect PepsiCo's economic profit to increase for years; on
the contrary, they expect it to decline slowly (Fortune. June 11, 2012). Several of its most valuable
brands, such as Pepsi and Doritos, have lost strength or market share, or both (Fortune. June 11,
2012). Weak innovation Strategy: PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi said: "We don't believe we are
delivering enough incremental innovation" (Fortune, June 11, 2012, Pg.152). PepsiCo has
introduced new products, such as regular soda and diet products, but nothing to match Coke's hugely
successful Coke Zero and attention–grabbing bottle and can designs (Fortune, June 11, 2012) As

The Arrival Of Beautiful Madhukshara As The Wife Of Madhurya
Page 437
The arrival of beautiful Madhukshara as the wife of Madhurya was news worthy. It was not only the
names are similar, their minds and souls were also similar. Their union was the proof of wise
decision by Prajapati. The residents of the ashram were telling that Madhkshara's beauty was
comparable to mine. To me, she was the most beautiful woman in the world. Praise of her beauty
spread from ashram to ashram. Some people were saying that the ashram of Gautama has become a
congregation of beauties. I have a feeling that many saints were coming as uninvited guests just to
see her. When Madhukshara was young Indra liked her. In soma yajna Madhukshara could please
Indra by preparing soma–rasa. Satisfying Indra was the goal of the somayajna after all. I proposed
that to Gautama without expecting any objection from him.
He was very angry. He said, "How can a young girl take care of Indra's hospitality while the wife of
the principal teacher was there? If Indra gets satisfied by the hospitality of Madhukshara, do you
know what kind of danger will fall on us?"
I was surprised and asked, "Satisfying Indra to get rain water is the goal. What kind of problem are
you worried about?"
"Madhurya will get the fame of the successful yajna. Indra might appoint him as the principal
teacher thanks to his wife's hospitality. Others will also lose faith in me. Why will the residents of
the ashram obey me anymore? Why will the slaves have respect and fear for me? Are you looking

Case Study 10 Indra Nooyi : A Transcultural Leader
Case Study 10 Indra Nooyi: A Transcultural Leader
Introduction
As an increasing number of people become more conscious of what they consume health wise and
increase their awareness of their impact on the environment, they begin to actively decide who to
purchase from. Companies must become more aware of their consumer's transforming habits and
values. 'Companies today are bigger than many economies...little republics...if companies don't do
[responsible] things, who is going to?' (Deresky, 2014, PC4–9). It's hard enough developing a
competitive edge to beat out the competition, but to do so while still holding true to the acts of
shrinking one's environmental footprint and giving back to local communities seems realistically
unattainable. For all intents and purposes, can performance with purpose work for the performance
aspect effectively? (Deresky, 2014)
Case Summary Since being appointed CEO of PepsiCo in 2006, Indra Nooyi has been secure in
herself, her Indian roots, and is extremely values–driven. This is demonstrated in her mix of
socialized charismatic and authentic leadership in addition to her respect of work life balance for
both her self and her employees even recognizing the support of employee families to the company
as a whole. Under Nooyi's leadership, a value oriented and motivated corporate culture was
established at at all levels of PepsiCo. Case 10 Indra Nooyi: A Transcultural Leader delves deeper

Support A strategic leader should definitely analyze what affects competitive advantage and how exactly the company is underperforming. One of the recommendations would be scenario planning. It would be beneficial to analyze various cases where different product categories can be changed and to see how will the certain change affect the financial performance of the company. The second recommendation would be to synthesize all available input from all possible sources– internal and external and create a strategic vision that will help the company see where they need to make changes and how those changes will help the growth of the financial. Another recommendation would be to provide customers the service that other competitors do not provide be it either discounts or other ways of promotions. This will help differentiate PepsiCo from its competitors. Do you agree with Indra Nooyi's philosophy that "performance and purpose are intimately linked and you can't do one without the other"? He was an example of how leaders should lead their people to win successful battles (Davis 8–9). Because he was in the Vedas he was probably at least somewhat important before they were created. The Vedas contain different religious traditions, beliefs, and ceremonies, and of the people passed down verbally, the chants or rituals (traditionally) performed by the Brahmin caste. Originally they were separate, but then became combined between 1200–1000 BCE (Davis 8) Although some parts of the Vedas may have existed before Indra was known to all communities, I placed the Vedas after Indra. • 11. Soma and its Effects Essay Soma and its Effects Throughout India's long and colorful history, there have been a considerable variety of groups who have left their mark on the land and its people. One of the most influential, however, were the Aryans. In fact, some of the Aryan customs still remain in modern–day India, such as cattle demanding great respect, which stems from the Aryan tradition of using such animals as currency (Chamberlain). The Aryans were mainly pastoral, relying on agriculture to survive (Bentley and Ziegler 94). They did not have any sort of writing system; instead, what is known about them is rooted in oral traditions.. This raises the question of religion. According to this passage, among others contained in the Rig Veda, Soma gives its users feelings of great freedom and a general sense of expansiveness. After ingesting the drug, the user is also said to "know no limits" (Rig 238). This can help promote a healthy mindset as it relieves feelings of stress. Additionally, even gods are depicted in the Rig Veda as having been helped by the effects of Soma. One of the traditional stories about Soma concerns Indra, the "Aryan war god and military hero...who ravaged citadels, smashed dams, and destroyed forts..." (Bentley and Ziegler 94). One significant feat, however, deals with Indra's defeat of a dragon who "lived in the sky and hoarded water in the clouds" (Bentley and Ziegler 87). Prior to the defeat, Indra satisfies his thirst by ingesting copious amounts of Soma. According to the story, after doing this, Indra goes into battle with the dragon and defeats it by throwing thunderbolts at it. • 13. The Similarities Of Jack Ma And Indra Nooyi Jack Ma and Indra Nooyi share very common similarities regarding their leadership stories which appear to be strong catalysts in shaping their leadership purpose. They both came from rather simple beginnings, Indra was raised by a strict conservative Brahmin family in Southern India and Jack was repeatedly rejected for his plans of starting an internet company in America. Not deterred by that experience Jack then returned to China with no money but a solid business idea. While it is clear in watching them that these are leaders who remain quite humble about their achievements, Jack especially is someone who happily admits he has made a lot of errors on his path to success, stating his plans to write the book 'Alibaba's 1001 mistakes, that ... By putting the company ahead of her own ego this again draws a strong correlation to the humble nature of Jack Ma and his plan of sustainability for the people and small business owners of China. Jack appears to be someone who wishes to change China and ultimately the world for the better, made clear by him saying 'I don't feel proud of how much money I've made, I feel proud at how much I've been able to help small business' (Business 2011), and to have people stop him in the street commenting they opened a small store on TaoBao and they're doing well, it's clear that doing what's best for the people resonates with Jack strongly, further strengthened by him saying 'When you have 1 billion, that's not your money, that's the societies trust' (Business ... But her look of reply was quite sufficient; she had not come without counting the cost. Her belief in the Pythagorean doctrine of transmigration was firm and fixed; and she looked forward, without a doubt, to secure for herself and her husband, by this sacrifice, a new life of happier existence, and more refined enjoyments than the sordid realities which the world now offered... This quote, recorded by Richard Hartley Kennedy, a 19th century British surgeon living in British India exemplifies the almost macabre fascination with the Hindu rite of widow burning known as Sati that the Western World has developed over the course of the last several hundred years. Perhaps, this morbid obsession originated with the Western World seeing in Sati a Romeo and Juliette like expression of true love. Subsequently, the West's fascination can perhaps be credited to the ensuing human rights controversy that this rite has generated over the course of the past two– hundred years. Regardless as to the reason of why the West has taken an interest in this rite, I will attempt in this paper to decipher and interpret this ritual mostly through the lens of a Western philosopher of religion, Mircea Eliade. In doing so, Nooyi is attempting to move beyond the historic trade–off between profits and people. Captured in her artful mantra–"Performance with purpose"–she wants to give Wall Street what it wants but also, the planet what it needs. "It doesn't mean subtracting from the bottom line," she explained in a 2007 speech, but rather "that we bring together what is good for business with what is good for the world." By 2010, Nooyi has pledged, half of the firm's U.S. revenue will come from healthful products such as low–cal Gatorade and high–fiber oatmeal. The company will eschew fossil fuels in favor of wind and solar. It will campaign against obesity. This is, clearly, not business as usual. "People these days are bringing their principles to their purchasing," she said in the same speech. "We, in return, are bringing a purpose to our performance." I think that was due to the influence of my father. I announced in strong voice, "Hello Indra! I want to remind you that during my graduation ceremony you had a boon for me to use in the future. Today I want to use it to request you to spare the life of Rudraksha. Indra startled me with his thunder like voice, 'Stay away from it Ahalya! Don't misuse your invaluable boon to save the life of this criminal. Later, this boon will be used for a noble cause" I besought him with folded hands, "The king of gods! In this creation, no one's life is dispensable. In the future, Rudraksha could be able to do a lot of great deeds. He is also a patriot and his anger is not without a base." "Please don't forsake your invaluable boon for a stranger, Ahalya!", Indra retorted. "Rudraksha is not a stranger to me. He is the husband of my dearest friend Rucha. He is my dearest Rudraksha." "Ahalya! Without Gautama's permission, you cannot accept a favor from me. Now you are subordinate of Gautama." He ridiculed. "Soul is not controlled by anyone. Soul is only subordinate to the Supreme Lord. Please fulfill the prayer of my soul!" "I can fulfill your prayer Ahalya. In return, you can also give me a boon. You have that power." A legacy tells your life story: where you went, what you did, and who you talked to. A legacy is the story that you pass on to your children and your children's children and the list goes on. In certain cases a legacy is left when you are alive. People like Michael Jackson, Maya Angelou, and Whitney Houston all made their legacies when they were alive, they changed the world without even trying. They changed the world by doing what they do best: being themselves. Indra Nooyi is one of those legends, she was able to grow up in one of the poorest, most populated countries in the world, India, and then move to a foreign territory and still make it to the top of the pyramid by hard work alone. Indra Nooyi, now the CEO of PepsiCo is one of the richest beverage companies in the world, has shown us that it doesn't matter where you start from it matters where you go and how you get there. The Angkor Wat, however, is one of the largest and best preserved monuments of the Angkor group that most do not think about. This monument was built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II in Angkor, which is modern–day Cambodia. This monument is the world's largest religious structure and measures to be about 400 acres. It is built entirely of stone, which is rather unique considering the intense details that appear on every surface of this structure. The building was originally meant to be a means of making claims to political offices more legitimate. They also wanted the powers of their gods to be protected. "Hindu temples are not a place for religious congregation;instead; they are homes of the god" (Rod). About 1,200 square meters of bas reliefs are carved on the walls of the Angkor Wat. These bas reliefs represent eight different Hindu stories. The Angkor Wat also has an expanded enclosed wall to separate sacred temple grounds from the rest of the city. Early Cambodia was mostly divided into rival states up until King Jayavarman II founded the Khmer Empire. The Khmer Empire was filled with an overwhelming amount of thriving agriculture and most Khmers were animists. This means that they believed that many spirits contained natural phenomenons. In contrast, women normally function with connectivity and closeness as paramount. For women, status and hierarchy are not key and women are not predisposed to giving orders, but rather express preferences and suggestions which are likely accepted. 5. Male leaders communicate "to–the–point" Male leaders usually keep it short and sweet. No personal talk, just down to business and go. Female leaders on the other hand talk on a more personal note while addressing subordinates. Krishna wants Arjuna to see the bigger picture and know how his role affects not only him, but all of those around him. On the other hand, Socrates' daimonion pushes Socrates to do what is right by preventing him from doing actions that it perceives as wrong. Contrasting these philosophical texts, Krishna has to persuade Arjuna to follow his moral duty, while Socrates always complies with his daimonion. When Arjuna first speaks to Krishna at the beginning of the video, he seems torn on where his duty lies. If Arjuna chooses to fight, he will go to battle against his family and friends, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Socrates' daimonion doesn't tell him exactly what to do, it does, however, dissuade Socrates from doing an action it believes is wrong. As Socrates said in The Apology, "You have often heard me speak of an oracle or sign which comes to me...This sign I have had ever since I was a child. The sign is a voice which comes to me and always forbids me to do something which I am going to do, but never commands me to anything". Ultimately, Socrates will heed the warning of his daimonion over his own reason of thought as suggested by this quote, "Before this, the familiar oracle within me has constantly been in the habit of opposing me even about trifles, if I was going to make a slip or error about anything...I have often been stopped in the middle of speech..." (Plato). Based on this, it seems that Socrates will listen to his daimonion every time it advises him, even from the smallest of matters and will go as far as to stop talking if his daimonion believes he is wrong. From this, it can be perceived that Socrates trusts his daimonion's decision and knows that it will steer him towards the right path. According to this philosophical text, a person should do what they believe is right, even if they are standing alone. When Socrates is sentenced to death he remarks, "I regard this as a proof that what has happened to me is a good, and that those of us who think that death ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, reading between the lines of ancient texts and looking for similarities between beliefs reveals that the world's dominant religions share multiple commonalities. For instance, each major religion (Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, etc.) has a general set of rules that guide values and daily action; for example, each system of beliefs inspires compassion, connectedness, and the notion that there is "god" inside all of us. After studying various texts incorporating upayas, it appears that most lessons have an empathic component connected to it. Pain is an important expression of empathy, which is often portrayed through a bodhisattva's struggle to realize the nature of samsara. It's also a means of connection of one person to another, for nobody lives a life completely devoid of pain. Understanding lovingkindness and compassion towards all sentient beings is the second major facet of empathy conveyed through Buddhism; with the conception that everyone is destined to become a buddha, and that it's every buddha's karmic obligation to encourage this, it's logical that the only way to connect with and help others is to love them as if they are equal to yourself. Otherwise, biases may be present in certain teachings or treatment. Lastly, the Buddha instills universal empathy in his disciples by sharing stories or lessons relevant to their human, worldly condition. While the elements the Buddha spoke about may not exist everywhere, such as in other worlds or in the Pure Land, attributing elements familiar to humans to cosmic/spiritual ideas is helpful in aiding comprehension and furthering connectedness.
