Hillcrest Hospital Helpers Club
One of the first real leadership positions I ever had at my school was in the Hillcrest Hospital Helpers Club. I became a member my first year at
Hillcrest as a sophomore and became immediately interested in their purpose as a school club. While it may sound clichГ©, the members of the
club, and especially the leaders, wanted to make a difference through their service. We would at least monthly participate in creating art crafts and
activities for the children at Shriner's Hospital and then deliver it to them. While it may not seem much to the average person, the happiness on the
children's faces was worth all of our efforts and more. I never viewed myself as a leader, so when I decided to run, as a junior, for a position as part of
the presidency

Gsm Case Study
Here's my rough draft, now where's yours? Please explain how the South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics can enhance your
child's education. You may provide any additional information that our selection committee should consider when evaluating your child's application
to GSSM. We believe that our child, Hayleigh would flourish academically and socially at GSSM. Hayleigh would be given more academically
challenging courses at GSSM, which would enhance her future capabilities greatly if selected to attend GSSM. We also feel that she would grow
socially, being surrounded by like–minded peers. GSSM would help to prepare Hayleigh better for college on both an academic and social platform.

She actually gets upset with us when we take family vacations to Disney or Universal Studios during school time. On a more personal level,
Hayleigh has always been quiet, reserved, and respectful. Once she feels comfortable with people and surroundings; she's funny, goofy, and an all

throughout their lives. We feel that these worldly experiences will help them to make better life decisions. We also feel as though these trips will
assist our children in making college and after college choices in their lives. We are currently planning a European adventure for the summer of
2018 as a family. We are all very excited for that! Hayleigh loves to assist her peers in achieving their academic goals as well. She has volunteered
to tutored many children over the course of the past few years. She helps out her friends when they need extra attention in their classes as well.
Hayleigh has also worked for many years alongside our family doing volunteer work and raising funds for multiple different causes ranging from
breast cancer awareness to the Shriners hospital. She loves to make a difference in her community. As you can tell, we love our daughter very much,
and we couldn't be more proud of all of her accomplishments thus far in life. Though, that pride and sense of accomplishment have not come

The Ford Mustang And The Corvette
Over the past sixty years, the American car scene has been dominated by two completely different vehicles and the entire communities that believe in
them. Both designed, founded, and rooted in Detroit, Michigan, the Ford Mustang and the Corvette have continued to fuel the chase for the label of
America's true muscle car. The question over the years has been, why and how do consumers choose which to own, and which one is our "bald eagle"?
Investigating deeper into the roots of each American superpower, it all began with introduction of something that would change the automotive
industry forever. "Corvette: Dream Car Come True", is an article that highlights the beginning of the car movement in the United States: the birth of
Chevrolet's Corvette. "Born in 1953 at the General Motors plant in Flint, Michigan, the Corvette grew up on the raceway and has ruled the road ever
since" (Seiden 14). The article also goes on to mention that "the Corvette is not for racers only. True car lovers own Corvette cars for everyday
driving... and the highest performance standards have been built into every model" (Seiden 14). Early dominance of Corvettes on and off the racetrack,
led other competitors such as Ford Motor Company wonder why and how the Corvette could be out–driven and out–sold. Directly opposing the release
of the Corvette and its multipurpose ingenuity "Lee Iacocca, then general manager of Ford Motor Company, challenged his design team to create a car
that could be driven 'to

1.Question :(TCO 4) Your hospital has just been told that all of your cardiovascular surgeons are transferring their practice to a competitive hospital
beginning next year. How would this affect a forecast of volume?
Student Answer:First and foremost, if a hospital is suddenly lost all of its cardiovascular surgeons...heads will roll. However, if there are a major lost
of service such as the cardiovascular surgeon...there will be a decrease in the volume due to the lost of services. Thus when the hospital have a reduce

Introduction
This paper will analyze Shriners Hospital for children, a non–profit hospital system owned by Shriners International, through the theoretical lens of
Bolman and Deals Leadership Frameworks (1997). This paper will define structural and symbolic aspects of the organization, analyze strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats through structural assessment to identify growth and risk potential, and propose possible solutions for identified
issues.
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a non–profit hospital system that maintains 22 hospitals for children in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. 18 of
the hospitals provide orthopedic specialization; three hospitals focus on burn care, and one hospital offers burn, spinal, and orthopedic care. The first
hospital was opened in Shreveport Louisiana, in 1922 by Shriners International, a fraternal organization for men. The hospitals provide cutting edge
care for a variety of condition, actively engage in research for cures to childhood diseases and improvement to orthopedic and burn treatments
(Schumaker, 2005).

Professional Tennis Has Inspired Much Of My Intrinsic Growth
I still recall the many hours spent as a kid hitting a tennis ball against the drywall in my empty garage. Tennis has inspired much of my intrinsic growth
since then, both socially and mentally, developing two core values that I continue to adhere to today: persistence and making a substantial impact.
Consistently pushing through situations in which I have struggled has contributed to my persistence and my desire to excel, whether as a professional
tennis coach or as an aspiring physician in a medical care facility. I have come to learn that with people in general, there is really no losing; everyone
has something they want or need that makes them tick, and throughout my tennis coaching career, I have found that the more you are able to
understand people's wants or needs, the more influential you can be for them.
I began volunteering overnight on Fridays in the Emergency Department of James A. Haley Veteran'sHospital. From 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., I stocked rooms
with medical supplies for incoming patients and cleaned their rooms after being discharged. I would then leave for my 8 a.m. Saturday job as a tennis
coach of group and private lessons for all ages and skill levels, working through the late afternoon.
In the ED, I spent several hours observing medical procedures and patient interactions with Drs. Heagle, Abraham, and Ahmad, all of whom were
willing to educate me on the logic behind their differential diagnoses. Through their collective enthusiasm for this field and

The Blocker Burn Unit At The University Of Texas Medical...
Introduction The Blocker Burn Unit is a six bed Burn Intensive Care Unit located at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston.
It has a long and storied history of providing innovative burn care to its patients. The Burn unit was initially founded after a massive explosion in
Texas City Harbor that injured hundreds of people in 1944. Since inception, the unit has dealt with disaster both fabricated and natural. In 2008, the
BBU was one of only a handful of services to remain open and operational after Hurricane Ike landed and dealt massive injury to UTMB. The BBU
not only sustained operations but also briefly expanded to provide pediatric burn care when Shriners Burns Hospital was subsequently unable to reopen
post hurricane. This paper will detail the realities confronted by the BBU both currently, and in the future, with an exploration as to those implications
on fiscal outlook and provision of care.
Current Realities of the Blocker Burn Unit (BBU)
Burn Care Hospitals The American Burn Association (ABA) is the accrediting body for burn centers in the United States. Currently the number of
ABA verified centers listed is 64. Other ABA verified center sin Texas include the Hermann Memorial Burn Unit in Houston, the Parkland Burn Unit in

The Importance Of Risk Factors And Protective Factors
Concerning risk factors and protective factors, there are few that have been major in my life. First, I have supportive, loving, and generous parents.
My parents have been excellent teachers and providers since birth. To this day they support me financially and are always available to hear me vent
and offer advice. In each stage of development, I believe my parents have been protective factors. Another protective factor that has been with me the
majority of my life has been my positive disposition. I had poor digestive health as an infant, but in times of good health my parents report that I was a
"happy baby". Growing up I was full of laughter and was welcome into new friend groups with ease. I feel negative emotions like everyone else and
have struggled with feelings of anxiety and depression, but I still try to remain positive and upbeat. This has been a protective factor as it has left a
good impression on peers and superiors alike, and I feel I come off as trustworthy and kind. The two big risk factors in my life are family relations and
family history of alcoholism. Although my parents have been important protective factors, there are aspects of my family life that have contributed to
it being a risk factor. When I was younger my parents constantly argued which led me to have insecurities and self doubt. I remember wondering if
their fighting was somehow my fault, and when they got a divorce I started partaking in risky drinking. Familial alcoholism is the second risk

Nurse's Understanding And Stance On Children's Pain
пїј Most people have played the game "mercy" before in their lifetime. The goal of this children's game is to inflict pain on your opponent and the
first to say mercy loses. This game is constructed on the basis of different levels of pain tolerance. Each person experiences pain differently, so
when asked rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10 some people's 4 may be another person's 8. Although pain is relative, children do experience pain at
different levels and are sometimes unable to adequately convey that pain level to their care takers. Far too frequently pediatric pain goes untreated
simply because it is not appropriately assessed.
A recent study was done to analyze the proficiency of pediatric pain management of nurses, the nurse's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Radiology Program At Shriner 's Hospital For Crippled...
On August 22nd, 2016 was the first day of several students' journey to become radiology technicians. We all were nervous and excited to take our first
step toward our career goal. We are quickly learning new procedures, techniques, and terminology every day. Our journey has barely begun, but I am
enjoying every minute of it.
The radiology program is something I wanted to a part of since I was young. When I was 4 years old, I became a patient at Shriner's Hospital for
Crippled Children because I was born with a birth defect in both feet called Skew foot. Both of my feet were turning s shaped making it difficult
and painful to walk. For several years, doctors tried using inserts to straighten my feet, but it was not working. The radiologic technicians kept
taking images to monitor my progress, and if I continued this method, I would be in a wheelchair today. When I was 8 years old, it was first
decided I needed to have surgery. I had two surgeries and both were successful. From age 4 to 17 years old when I was released, I saw the radiology
technicians, nurses and doctors every six months to a year. I honestly believe if the technicians did not do as well of a job as they did, I would not be
walking today. I know they do not read the images, but since they take them it is very important everything is done correctly to obtain the best image
possible. If an x–ray was underexposed or overexposed, the doctors would not have been able to see the severity of my birth defects.

Adversity In My Life
Early on in my childhood, my mom always knew that there was something wrong with me. I didn't walk straight since my feet tended to lean
inwards to each other, which was slightly embarrassing for me. Therefore, she began to take me to be examined by several doctors and hospitals,
which ended up being for a couple years, to try to figure out why I did this and what was wrong. They all seemed to brush it off as something that stop
as I became older. Other than getting some special orthotic inserts, I didn't receive much treatment or attention, which became frustrating for the both of
us. Yet, deep down my mom knew that I needed real help, and she continued to try until I had it. For that reason, she has taught me that at times I should

control of my own body before. Nurses were constantly giving me injections, which would lead to me waking up in different rooms, always making
me extremely confused. Also, I would think that I was only asleep for a few minutes when it was in actuality hours, even hallucinating once in between
that. Finally, I had that giant metal rod that went from my knee to my hip bone, nails and all, placed in my left leg. As a result, I had lost several blood

Life's Unexpected Roller Coaster: A Study of Scoliosis Many people may wonder exactly what scoliosis is. Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the
spine that is greater than ten degrees. Mild scoliosis ranges from ten to twenty degrees. Intermediate scoliosis ranges from twenty to seventy degrees,
and severe scoliosis is any curve greater than seventy degrees. Though cases of scoliosis are found equally among both male and females, females
scoliosis tends to be more severe (Board). Scoliosis can be present at birth, congenital. There are a few different types of scoliosis; functional, structural,

This method is usually used for curvatures in the chest region that are moderately large (Board). The growing spine system is used for young
children who are still growing but are not helped by a back brace. The metal rod that is used to support the spine is adjustable. The procedure is
similar to spinal fusion but the joints are not removed and the spine will not fuse. With this system surgery is needed about ever six months to change
the length of the rod as the patient grows (Board).

Hip Dysplasi Research Report
Hip Dysplasia

Period 5
Based on the research I have completed, I have expanded my knowledge on hip dysplasia! This research report contains what I have learned. Contained
in this is an introduction to hip dysplasia, the problem with it, causes, treatments to hip dysplasia and the effects of having hip dysplasia.
First, hip dysplasia, hip dysplasia is where the pelvic bone is not properly in the hip socket. This can cause problems in walk creating pain. ?3–6 out of
1000 newborns have some form of hip dysplasia or dysplastic hips.?(Hawkins, Judy C) (Where the hips are shallow in the socket and this can develop
into DDH.) Hip dysplasia or DDH is 9% more common in girls. Also, ?2–3 out of every 1000 infants will require some sort of treatment for DDH 1
out of every 1000 are diagnosed with DDH.?(Kidd, Randy) If treated the life expectance for someone with developmental dysplasia of the hips is a full
life. If they are not treated you can live your whole life but will not walk, have a lot of pain and will most likely need full hip replacements by the age
20.
Some of the physical features and clues that you have hip dysplasia are 1 leg might be longer than the other, your hip clicks when it is moved in a
circle and it also can be detected in ultrasounds and x–rays. It can be passed through families genetically by either parent and it usually skips a
generation. This is because it is a

Marius's Life
Marius, a Romanian 8 year old boy, lived a life just as every other kid his age. He attended school, played with his friends and his dog, and helped
his family with chores. Once the accident occurred, life changed for Marius although he was always positive during his recovery process. Both of
Marius's parents died during the accident, however, he still had a large support system. This support came from both Marius's older sister and brother
who were not home at the time of the accident. Also, the interns at the hospital provided a large amount of help to Marius as did the interns' parents
and other family members. Shriners Hospital for Children in Los Angeles as well as all of the support from teachers, home tutors, and the translator,
Teodora, made the entire recovery process possible. So even though Marius did not have his parents, he still had an abundance of support and assistance.

Everyone's heard of the Shriners. Old men in silly hats who drive miniature cars in parades. While they have a fun, non–threatening public appearance,
they lack knowledge of just how much they do. Everyone knows them, few know just what it is they do. They operate a group of hospitals that are
entirely free for the children and families who need them. Not only will they get your child transferred to their care, but they put up the family for the
duration as well. The Shriners desperately need a campaign showing their work to the general public. Currently the Shrine has a decent Facebook and

Scan, Modify, 3D Print: Revolutionizing the AFO
Problem Statement
Last summer, I started an internship with Shriners Hospital for Children in their Motion Analysis Lab. During my internship there, I realized that
many children could not afford to wait the three months necessary for standard ankle braces. In addition, many poorer families struggle to afford such
expensive devices. My goal for this invention is to develop a feasible and medically accepted system in which a 3D scan of the patient's foot will be
manipulated on the computer to create a custom, 3D–printed brace. This innovative new process, combining the new technologies of 3D scanning and
3D printing, will result in an orthotic that can be produced quickly and inexpensively.
Research & Background
The Ankle
The ankle is an incredibly complex component of the skeletomuscular system. The ankle–foot complex must provide both stability and mobility. It is
responsible for providing a stable base of support for the body (stability), but must be flexible enough to absorb the body's weight during gait (mobility).
The talocrural joint, or ankle joint, is formed by the articulation of the talus with the tibia and fibula. The talus's shape allows 3 planes of motion:
dorsiflexion/plantarflexion, inversion/eversion, and pronation/supination. The purpose of an AFO (Ankle–Foot Orthotic) is to stabilize the talocrural
joint.
Orthoses
Orthoses (plural form of "orthotic") refer to a broad group of medical devices that support, immobilize, or treat muscles, joints or skeletal

Arsdale, A. P., & Clark, J. L. (2010). Re–examining the relationship between cranial deformation and extra–sutural bone formation. International
Journal of Osteoarchaeology,22(1), 119–126. doi:10.1002/oa.1188
This study aimed to see whether cranial deformation leads to an increase in the presence/occurrence of wormian bones. Finding appropriate samples to
test this is particularly difficult because "Hanihara and Ishida's (2001) study of undeformed crania from a worldwide sample demonstrated that at least
five types of extra–sutural bone show a large degree of between–population variance in terms of frequency of occurrence." This study analyzed a
sample of 59 crania (deformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also discussed the debated causal factors for wormian bones. Both genetic and environmental factors have been discussed as possible causes and
various theories exist that support both genetic and environmental factors as possible influencers. For example, mechanical deformation of the cranium
(such as intentional deformation like the cradle–boarding practiced in ancient cultures) has shown to affect the number and location of wormian bones
but does not seem to affect overall incidence of them, which can be seen by the case study in the Arsdale article. In addition, some studies have shown
that the occurrence of wormian bones in the anterior fontanelle may have some genetic basis. Anther support for genetic factors is that wormian bones
definitely have pathological and diagnostic implications. Because wormian bones are consistently seen in some autosomal dominant genetic disorders,
they are used as markers in the diagnostic disorders like pyknodysostosis, osteogenesis imperfecta, rickets, cleidocranial dysplasia, hypothyroidism,
Down syndrome, etc. I don't think environmental and genetic factors are mutually exclusive. They are both supported hypotheses, though how they
intersect is yet to be

Rig Bug Corporation Case Summary
Case 3C RUG BUG CORPORATION A. L. Young has come a long way with his latest invention, the Rug Bug, a motorized wheelchair made
especially for children. His lightweight, relatively inexpensive model has no direct competition in a field dominated by companies that produce
scaled–down versions of adult models that are inappropriate to the needs of children. A working prototype has been built, office space and
manufacturing capacity contracted, and an initial sales force recruited. The only element Young lacks is enough capital to produce the first 200 units.
A business plan has been drawn up describing the product, its manufacture, and the marketing plan. After several fruitless months seeking financing,
Young was contacted by a group of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
al. pp. 402–412 Case 3C use of motorized chairs by the target age group has been limited primarily for two reasons. First, the current cost of
motorized wheelchairs ranges from $3,000 to $20,000. It has been difficult to justify such an investment for a chair since a child 's growth is
typically rapid, therefore limiting the time the chair can be utilized. The Rug Bug will retail for $1,850. This is a significant price differential,
especially for a chair that offers additional features such as safety control. The second limitation was the medical community 's view that muscle use
was of primary concern in a handicapped child 's development. They have recently shifted away from that stance, with many professionals now
emphasizing the development of spatial skills, spatial relations, and sense of movement–all areas that the motorized chair can help strengthen.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT The Rug Bug is a vacuum–molded, plasticbody wheelchair powered by a rechargeable battery. The 25–pound
chair has the following safety features as standard equipment: 1. A pressure–sensitive bumper strip surrounding the vehicle allows the unit to move
away from any obstruction it might encounter. Dual front antennae extend upward to prevent the chair from moving under low objects, such as a
coffee table. In the case of a confrontation with an uneven surface, an electric eye located under the front of the chair will deactivate power in

Who Is Adam Levine?
Adam Levine was born on March 18, 1979 in Los Angeles, California (Shlomo). Most people recognize Adam as the lead singer of Maroon 5, but this
is not where he started. Three of the five boys that are a part of Maroon 5 today, including Adam, started playing together at the young age of 12. In his
early years he was a part of a band called, "Kara's Flowers" (Edwards). "Kara's Flowers" formed in 1994; having little success they decided to go their
separate ways and go to college for a short time. They regrouped in 2001 naming themselves "Maroon 5" ("Maroon 5's Top 25 Career Moments: A
Timeline,"). Adam was greatly influenced by his mom growing up. She states that, " I wouldn't let him listen to kid;s music in the car," "I was playing

Adam received the BMI president's award ("Maroon 5's Top 25 Career Moments: A Timeline." ). The BMI President's award is truly an honor. It is
given to songwriters that have strongly influenced the music industry. As of February 10, 2017Adam Levine received the 2,601st star in the recording
category on The Hollywood Walk of Fame ("Adam Levine Will Get His Own Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame"). Adam and his many awards
have had a major impact on the future of music.
With Adam's outgoing and understanding personality he has influenced many people over the years. On NBC's The Voice, Adam has worked with
many upcoming musicians. Jordan Smith, a former member of Adam's team has nothing but good things to say about his generous dedicated coach.
"I didn't learn as much from what Adam said to me as I did from just watching him work and watching the way he does things on the show," he
explains. Adam always did what was necessary to ensure that his artist were successful. Jordan adds, "and sometimes that meant a lot of extra work, or
staying late, or being stressed out about changing something at the last minute. But he always did it because he thought that was what was best for us."

I Want To Be A Nurse Student Admission Essay Sample
Nursing is a lifelong learning experience and a challenging profession. My inspiration for wanting to become a nurse comes from an innate desire to
help and care for people in their times of need. My experiences during my undergraduate years have helped me to become a qualified applicant for the
Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis.
I attended California State University, Sacramento, as an undergraduate student. While pursuing a B.S. inHealth Science, I developed a skill set
necessary to provide wellness–related presentations to the community. I have completed several public health courses which helped me find my
passion in supporting and educating the community about potential health risks. In my Aging and Health class, I had the opportunity to instruct a Fall
Prevention workshop for the residents at a nursing home. In this role, I conducted needs assessments, developed materials, and provided resources to
the residents and their families on how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I facilitated several one–one–one CHOICES meetings where I counseled the students on their drinking and smoking habits. I have also served the
Sacramento community by volunteering at Shriners Hospital for Children and being an active member in the Public Health Club at Sacramento State.
These positions provided me the opportunity to support the community. Working as aNurse Assistant, Unit Secretary, and Business Office Assistant,
also allows me to meet many people from different backgrounds and cultures. My experiences have repeatedly confirmed my passion of pursuing a
career in the nursing profession. Becoming a nurse will be challenging, but knowing that I can contribute to someone achieving the best possible quality
of life is extremely fulfilling. I have come to better understand the barriers some families face in obtaining quality health

A Problem That Exists In Todayв
Ђ™S Society Is Obesity. David
A problem that exists in today's society is obesity. David Haslam, Naveed Sattar, and Mike Lean researched just how badly obesity was affecting the
human population. They discovered that The United States is 10 years ahead of the United Kingdom in regards to its obesity problem. Diagnosis of
obesity is determined by a person's body mass index (BMI) and or their waist circumference. A BMI greater than thirty indicates that an individual is
obese. Obesity can be caused by bad diet, unusual sleeping patterns, little to no exercise, as well as multiple health problems including type 2 diabetes,
coronary heart disease, among other things(Haslam, Satter, and Lean, 2006). Obesity affects one in five children and out of the population in... Show

NFL Play 60 also started a partnership with Brax Fundraising so that schools who do not have the financial resources to provide children with
physical education can start fundraising to do so. Most of their programs and events are done through schools so if a child's school does not work
with Play 60 they will not receive the benefits those programs could offer. On their website NFL Play 60 lists ideas for teachers or physical
education leaders to provide them with resources that their schools may not offer whether they are or are not a part of their campaign. This was in
effort to reach as many children as possible and give them a chance at a healthier future. NFL Play 60 partners with many different programs to
ensure children in school are active daily so they are guaranteed a healthier future. The National Recreational Park Association has been providing
elementary schools apart of NFL Play 60 with NFL Flag essential kits to provide tools so that the children can be active. NFL Play 60 also partners

Brand Community
EXTENDING THE CONCEPT OF BRAND COMMUNITY:
BUILDING COMMITMENT IN THE CHARITY SECTOR
ABSTRACT
The paper introduces a model of brand community development that is extended to the nonprofit sector; a sector that has just recently begun to
embrace relationship marketing. It is believed that brand communities represent a unique form of relationship marketing, with benefits that are
particularly compelling for nonprofits. Indeed, the paper reveals that many of the characteristics of brand communities already exist to some extent
within the culture and/or fundraising efforts of charitable organizations. The article offers a number of research propositions for research into the
influence of brand community markers and mechanisms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, contributions to charity comprise a substantial portion of the average household budget, over 5% of gross income according to Smith (1980).
Individuals also donate a substantial portion of their time to charities, time estimated to be worth roughly the equivalent of the financial contributions
(Smith 1980). Given these statistics, it is easy to see why the charity–donor relationship is so important to charitable organizations. However, a study
conducted for the Direct Marketing Association revealed that donors also feel it is important to have meaningful relationships with nonprofit
organizations (Association Management 1996). And yet, the desire for close relationships does not guarantee full coffers or a full roster of volunteers.
For although baby boomers indicate that they intend to give more, they are cynical of charities and demand greater accountability for how their
donations are used, as well as tangible evidence of the good that this money is doing (Fund Raising Management 1999a). The goal of the current paper
is to extend the concept of brand community to the nonprofit sector. Although this sector is nascent with respect to its appreciation for, and adoption
of, relationship marketing, it is believed that the brand community concept is

How To Show Julie How Much Others Care Essay
It Takes an Accident to Show Julie How Much Others Care
People we don't know or may never know can have a tremendous positive effect on our lives. Sometimes we discount the emotional support family
and friends can provide. The effects of a single moment in time could lead to a lifelong physical ailment, if not for the help of family and strangers.
Having a strong bond with family and our community can make the difference that is needed to make it through a tumultuous time. Having to face a
life–altering accident on our own can be scary, but can be turned around in some of the most unexpected ways. Sometimes from people we never
expected help to come from. During the annual spring strawberry festival in central Florida. Susan's decision to place her daughter Julie on the farm
animal ride would turn out to be a life–changing decision for her young daughter. After the ride began, there were some loud noises that spooked the
animals causing it to throw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She improved with each day doing more and more for herself, needing less and less help. They started going out with friends for dinner, movies
and concerts, anything they could do to be out and social. Each day she got stronger and was walking better and better. After a few months, the
time came to remove the rods, the cast, and to start the physical therapy. Julie responded to therapy very well, so her time in therapy was short. As
she got back to her normal life she planned a big night out to celebrate being cleared by the doctor and found to be fully recovered. Julie's boyfriend
picked her up and they went to dinner and out to see a movie, after which they drove to a secluded road in the country. After talking for a while, Julie
asked her boyfriend to join her in a dance beneath the streetlight. It started to rain, but she did not care because for once in a long time she felt normal

My First Day Of Technical Writing Class
Elizabeth Taylor
Tech Writing
Mrs. Visser Interview paper
Introduction
Before the first day of Technical writing class, I thought it would be one of those classes that were required to take; classes that would reinstate what
previous English classes, high school and freshmen year, taught. As the year progressed, I slowly started to realize that technical writing was so much
integrated in everyday life. I am currently working on my bachelor's degree in Psychology. I aspire to one day become a serial or forensic psychologist.
Forensic psychology is the use of psychology within the justice system; merging the principles of psychology and the law. The tasks of forensic
psychologist include determining whether the defendant was in a sane state of mind when he/she committed the crime. Evaluation reports, test reports,
and interviews are among the forms of technical writing in the forensic Psychologist/ Specialist career field. The study in forensic psychology is very
vast and is divided into different areas including clinical forensic psychology, criminal investigation, development, and cognitive. The course provides
strong foundation in biological, physical, mathematical sciences and other relevant fields of forensic studies like forensic biology, forensic entomology
etc.
I chose to interview Doctor Richard Schmitt, a 30 year Depression, Trauma and PTSD, and Forensics–Criminal & Child Custody, and clinical veteran
specialist working in his own psychology firm. I do not

Hillcrest Hospital Helpers Club

  • 1. Hillcrest Hospital Helpers Club One of the first real leadership positions I ever had at my school was in the Hillcrest Hospital Helpers Club. I became a member my first year at Hillcrest as a sophomore and became immediately interested in their purpose as a school club. While it may sound clichГ©, the members of the club, and especially the leaders, wanted to make a difference through their service. We would at least monthly participate in creating art crafts and activities for the children at Shriner's Hospital and then deliver it to them. While it may not seem much to the average person, the happiness on the children's faces was worth all of our efforts and more. I never viewed myself as a leader, so when I decided to run, as a junior, for a position as part of the presidency ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Ford Mustang And The Corvette Over the past sixty years, the American car scene has been dominated by two completely different vehicles and the entire communities that believe in them. Both designed, founded, and rooted in Detroit, Michigan, the Ford Mustang and the Corvette have continued to fuel the chase for the label of America's true muscle car. The question over the years has been, why and how do consumers choose which to own, and which one is our "bald eagle"? Investigating deeper into the roots of each American superpower, it all began with introduction of something that would change the automotive industry forever. "Corvette: Dream Car Come True", is an article that highlights the beginning of the car movement in the United States: the birth of Chevrolet's Corvette. "Born in 1953 at the General Motors plant in Flint, Michigan, the Corvette grew up on the raceway and has ruled the road ever since" (Seiden 14). The article also goes on to mention that "the Corvette is not for racers only. True car lovers own Corvette cars for everyday driving... and the highest performance standards have been built into every model" (Seiden 14). Early dominance of Corvettes on and off the racetrack, led other competitors such as Ford Motor Company wonder why and how the Corvette could be out–driven and out–sold. Directly opposing the release of the Corvette and its multipurpose ingenuity "Lee Iacocca, then general manager of Ford Motor Company, challenged his design team to create a car that could be driven 'to ... Tennis has inspired much of my intrinsic growth since then, both socially and mentally, developing two core values that I continue to adhere to today: persistence and making a substantial impact. Consistently pushing through situations in which I have struggled has contributed to my persistence and my desire to excel, whether as a professional tennis coach or as an aspiring physician in a medical care facility. I have come to learn that with people in general, there is really no losing; everyone has something they want or need that makes them tick, and throughout my tennis coaching career, I have found that the more you are able to understand people's wants or needs, the more influential you can be for them. I began volunteering overnight on Fridays in the Emergency Department of James A. Haley Veteran'sHospital. From 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., I stocked rooms with medical supplies for incoming patients and cleaned their rooms after being discharged. I would then leave for my 8 a.m. Saturday job as a tennis coach of group and private lessons for all ages and skill levels, working through the late afternoon. In the ED, I spent several hours observing medical procedures and patient interactions with Drs. Heagle, Abraham, and Ahmad, all of whom were willing to educate me on the logic behind their differential diagnoses. Through their collective enthusiasm for this field and ... • 12. The Importance Of Risk Factors And Protective Factors Concerning risk factors and protective factors, there are few that have been major in my life. First, I have supportive, loving, and generous parents. My parents have been excellent teachers and providers since birth. To this day they support me financially and are always available to hear me vent and offer advice. In each stage of development, I believe my parents have been protective factors. Another protective factor that has been with me the majority of my life has been my positive disposition. I had poor digestive health as an infant, but in times of good health my parents report that I was a "happy baby". Growing up I was full of laughter and was welcome into new friend groups with ease. I feel negative emotions like everyone else and have struggled with feelings of anxiety and depression, but I still try to remain positive and upbeat. This has been a protective factor as it has left a good impression on peers and superiors alike, and I feel I come off as trustworthy and kind. The two big risk factors in my life are family relations and family history of alcoholism. Although my parents have been important protective factors, there are aspects of my family life that have contributed to it being a risk factor. When I was younger my parents constantly argued which led me to have insecurities and self doubt. I remember wondering if their fighting was somehow my fault, and when they got a divorce I started partaking in risky drinking. Familial alcoholism is the second risk ... • 14. The Radiology Program At Shriner 's Hospital For Crippled... On August 22nd, 2016 was the first day of several students' journey to become radiology technicians. We all were nervous and excited to take our first step toward our career goal. We are quickly learning new procedures, techniques, and terminology every day. Our journey has barely begun, but I am enjoying every minute of it. The radiology program is something I wanted to a part of since I was young. When I was 4 years old, I became a patient at Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children because I was born with a birth defect in both feet called Skew foot. Both of my feet were turning s shaped making it difficult and painful to walk. For several years, doctors tried using inserts to straighten my feet, but it was not working. The radiologic technicians kept taking images to monitor my progress, and if I continued this method, I would be in a wheelchair today. When I was 8 years old, it was first decided I needed to have surgery. I had two surgeries and both were successful. From age 4 to 17 years old when I was released, I saw the radiology technicians, nurses and doctors every six months to a year. I honestly believe if the technicians did not do as well of a job as they did, I would not be walking today. I know they do not read the images, but since they take them it is very important everything is done correctly to obtain the best image possible. If an x–ray was underexposed or overexposed, the doctors would not have been able to see the severity of my birth defects. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hip Dysplasi Research Report Hip Dysplasia By: Alaysha Heiner Biology Research report Genetic disorders Period 5 Based on the research I have completed, I have expanded my knowledge on hip dysplasia! This research report contains what I have learned. Contained in this is an introduction to hip dysplasia, the problem with it, causes, treatments to hip dysplasia and the effects of having hip dysplasia. First, hip dysplasia, hip dysplasia is where the pelvic bone is not properly in the hip socket. This can cause problems in walk creating pain. ?3–6 out of 1000 newborns have some form of hip dysplasia or dysplastic hips.?(Hawkins, Judy C) (Where the hips are shallow in the socket and this can develop into DDH.) Hip dysplasia or DDH is 9% more common in girls. Also, ?2–3 out of every 1000 infants will require some sort of treatment for DDH 1 out of every 1000 are diagnosed with DDH.?(Kidd, Randy) If treated the life expectance for someone with developmental dysplasia of the hips is a full life. If they are not treated you can live your whole life but will not walk, have a lot of pain and will most likely need full hip replacements by the age 20. Some of the physical features and clues that you have hip dysplasia are 1 leg might be longer than the other, your hip clicks when it is moved in a circle and it also can be detected in ultrasounds and x–rays. • 21. Scan, Modify, 3D Print: Revolutionizing the AFO Problem Statement Last summer, I started an internship with Shriners Hospital for Children in their Motion Analysis Lab. During my internship there, I realized that many children could not afford to wait the three months necessary for standard ankle braces. In addition, many poorer families struggle to afford such expensive devices. My goal for this invention is to develop a feasible and medically accepted system in which a 3D scan of the patient's foot will be manipulated on the computer to create a custom, 3D–printed brace. This innovative new process, combining the new technologies of 3D scanning and 3D printing, will result in an orthotic that can be produced quickly and inexpensively. Research & Background The Ankle The ankle is an incredibly complex component of the skeletomuscular system. The ankle–foot complex must provide both stability and mobility. It is responsible for providing a stable base of support for the body (stability), but must be flexible enough to absorb the body's weight during gait (mobility). The talocrural joint, or ankle joint, is formed by the articulation of the talus with the tibia and fibula. The talus's shape allows 3 planes of motion: dorsiflexion/plantarflexion, inversion/eversion, and pronation/supination. The purpose of an AFO (Ankle–Foot Orthotic) is to stabilize the talocrural joint. Orthoses Orthoses (plural form of "orthotic") refer to a broad group of medical devices that support, immobilize, or treat muscles, joints or skeletal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Wormian Bone Formation Case Study Joselynne Macias ANTH 344 Annotated Bibliography Draft Arsdale, A. P., & Clark, J. L. (2010). Re–examining the relationship between cranial deformation and extra–sutural bone formation. International Journal of Osteoarchaeology,22(1), 119–126. doi:10.1002/oa.1188 This study aimed to see whether cranial deformation leads to an increase in the presence/occurrence of wormian bones. Finding appropriate samples to test this is particularly difficult because "Hanihara and Ishida's (2001) study of undeformed crania from a worldwide sample demonstrated that at least five types of extra–sutural bone show a large degree of between–population variance in terms of frequency of occurrence." This study analyzed a sample of 59 crania (deformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also discussed the debated causal factors for wormian bones. Both genetic and environmental factors have been discussed as possible causes and various theories exist that support both genetic and environmental factors as possible influencers. For example, mechanical deformation of the cranium (such as intentional deformation like the cradle–boarding practiced in ancient cultures) has shown to affect the number and location of wormian bones but does not seem to affect overall incidence of them, which can be seen by the case study in the Arsdale article. In addition, some studies have shown that the occurrence of wormian bones in the anterior fontanelle may have some genetic basis. Anther support for genetic factors is that wormian bones definitely have pathological and diagnostic implications. Because wormian bones are consistently seen in some autosomal dominant genetic disorders, they are used as markers in the diagnostic disorders like pyknodysostosis, osteogenesis imperfecta, rickets, cleidocranial dysplasia, hypothyroidism, Down syndrome, etc. I don't think environmental and genetic factors are mutually exclusive. They are both supported hypotheses, though how they intersect is yet to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Rig Bug Corporation Case Summary Case 3C RUG BUG CORPORATION A. L. Young has come a long way with his latest invention, the Rug Bug, a motorized wheelchair made especially for children. His lightweight, relatively inexpensive model has no direct competition in a field dominated by companies that produce scaled–down versions of adult models that are inappropriate to the needs of children. A working prototype has been built, office space and manufacturing capacity contracted, and an initial sales force recruited. The only element Young lacks is enough capital to produce the first 200 units. A business plan has been drawn up describing the product, its manufacture, and the marketing plan. After several fruitless months seeking financing, Young was contacted by a group of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... al. pp. 402–412 Case 3C use of motorized chairs by the target age group has been limited primarily for two reasons. First, the current cost of motorized wheelchairs ranges from $3,000 to $20,000. It has been difficult to justify such an investment for a chair since a child 's growth is typically rapid, therefore limiting the time the chair can be utilized. The Rug Bug will retail for $1,850. This is a significant price differential, especially for a chair that offers additional features such as safety control. The second limitation was the medical community 's view that muscle use was of primary concern in a handicapped child 's development. They have recently shifted away from that stance, with many professionals now emphasizing the development of spatial skills, spatial relations, and sense of movement–all areas that the motorized chair can help strengthen. DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT The Rug Bug is a vacuum–molded, plasticbody wheelchair powered by a rechargeable battery. The 25–pound chair has the following safety features as standard equipment: 1. A pressure–sensitive bumper strip surrounding the vehicle allows the unit to move away from any obstruction it might encounter. Dual front antennae extend upward to prevent the chair from moving under low objects, such as a coffee table. In the case of a confrontation with an uneven surface, an electric eye located under the front of the chair will deactivate power in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Brand Community EXTENDING THE CONCEPT OF BRAND COMMUNITY: BUILDING COMMITMENT IN THE CHARITY SECTOR ABSTRACT The paper introduces a model of brand community development that is extended to the nonprofit sector; a sector that has just recently begun to embrace relationship marketing. It is believed that brand communities represent a unique form of relationship marketing, with benefits that are particularly compelling for nonprofits. Indeed, the paper reveals that many of the characteristics of brand communities already exist to some extent within the culture and/or fundraising efforts of charitable organizations. The article offers a number of research propositions for research into the influence of brand community markers and mechanisms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, contributions to charity comprise a substantial portion of the average household budget, over 5% of gross income according to Smith (1980). Individuals also donate a substantial portion of their time to charities, time estimated to be worth roughly the equivalent of the financial contributions (Smith 1980). Given these statistics, it is easy to see why the charity–donor relationship is so important to charitable organizations. However, a study conducted for the Direct Marketing Association revealed that donors also feel it is important to have meaningful relationships with nonprofit organizations (Association Management 1996). And yet, the desire for close relationships does not guarantee full coffers or a full roster of volunteers. For although baby boomers indicate that they intend to give more, they are cynical of charities and demand greater accountability for how their donations are used, as well as tangible evidence of the good that this money is doing (Fund Raising Management 1999a). The goal of the current paper is to extend the concept of brand community to the nonprofit sector. Although this sector is nascent with respect to its appreciation for, and adoption of, relationship marketing, it is believed that the brand community concept is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
