The social aspect and environment is one of the biggest reasons why people do what they do. Their
interactions with others have contribute to their motives, drives and even thoughts, as if one person
can help mold another into who they are. In a society, there are different communities made up of
people of different races, religion and gender. In each of these communities, different morals and
values are emphasized which affects everyone in the community and influences them as a whole.

social location has mainly been shaped by my past experiences with gender, social class, religion,

"A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner examines the social aspects of Miss Emily's life. Miss
Emily is an antisocial older woman who separates herself from the rest of society. There are

The interviewee is a 56–year–old African–American woman. She is married, but she is separated
from her husband. Currently, she lives with her daughter, who is a young adult. Also, she is a non–
denominational Christian. Overall, she is well groomed and seems to take value in her appearance,

Poverty is a collective condition of poor groups and individuals. The results of poverty has many
faces and changes from place to place. Poverty can be defined as the inability to meet basic needs
including food, clothing and shelter though it's not limited to just monetary things. Individuals
suffering from poverty are faced with limited access to education, jobs, healthcare, and protection
against violence. Poverty looks different to every individual affected by it but in order to provide
them with the opportunity to reach their full potential we as social workers must understand what
poverty truly is and identify social indicators to track education, health, access to services and social

In reality, there's a general deficiency in analyzing the extent and causes of food insecurity and

"Robert" is 5 years old and this observation took place at a family party, in a great social setting. I
received clearance to observe Robert by both his mother and father. Robert is an only child and
spends his time equally between his maternal and paternal families due to the fact that his parents
are separated. He is a third generation Mexican–American. He seems to be growing fairly well in
reference to his height and weight compared to other children his age. Throughout much of the
afternoon, I observed calm behavior and much later, I observed a more boisterous behavior. At the
beginning of the observation he walked into the social setting being almost oblivious to the people
around him, not wanting to formally greet members of the family until his father asked him to do so.
After this, Robert sat at a table alone until children approached him and then he became a little less
shy in demeanor.
The next transition in this observation began at the time children started to come, Robert nervously
asks a group of children if he can play with them and the group accepts. Much of the observation
between Robert, the group of children, and playtime consisted of playing with a basketball–in which
there is no clear objectives or rules–, playing "shooting" or "bad guy, good guy" games, and just
aimlessly, randomly running throughout the yard and home. Robert doesn't seem to lead in any of

According to Gordon Allport , "social psychology is an attempt to understand and explain how the
thought, feeling, and behavior of individuals is influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied
presence of others." (Allport, 1954)
There are two differing branches when referring to social psychology:
1. The sociological aspect of social psychology, which was mainly developed in Europe as a
subdivision of sociology.
2. The psychological aspect of social psychology, which was developed in the US
The differences between the two divisions are, that the sociological way of viewing social
psychology focusses more on group interaction, group processes, while the psychological aspects of
social psychology focusses more on the individual and how the individual is influenced and/or
behaves in social settings.
Sociological social psychology is very theory intensive and constructs itself out of
"geisteswissenschaften" (sciences of the spirit) and social sciences. Corresponding approaches are
i.e. critical theories, which also include psychoanalytical ideas. Some of the more notable
sociological psychologists include Sigmund Freud, Erich Fromm and Wilhelm Reich.
Coming back to the psychological branch of social psychology, we see its intentions lies in "an

The social norm that I decided to violate was wearing my sweatshirt backwards the whole school
day. I wore it all day, even in the morning and at home. I also went so far as to wear it backwards to
all of my piano lessons that I teach. This was one of the main reasons I wanted to violate this
particular social norm. I knew that I would get good reactions out of my students. Before I put it on
backwards, honestly I was a little nervous even though this really isn't that big of a deal. I was also
really excited about wearing it in front of the kids I teach. I didn't get a lot of reactions at school so I
was looking forward to the lessons. When I answered the door for my first student, she gave me the
funniest look, but she didn't say anything to me. Instead, she just walked in and was silent for most
of the lesson. My second student asked so many questions when I tried to explain it to her.
The next student couldn't even focus on the lesson. She was about six years old so she couldn't stop
laughing every time she looked at me. When I would lean over to help her, she would pull on my
hood. Pretty soon, I ended up just having her play her songs the best she could so that she would

Socialization is a fundamental aspect in the life of relatively every human. In the absence of having
the ability or strength to interact socially, we tend to steer away from social norms and isolate
ourselves. One may consider that watching television correlates with the effects of anti–socialization
although, one may argue that is not the case. Television is a form of socialization that provides
common ground for people to bond over, allows those lacking a social life to create their own social

A social norm that strikes my fascination is in the initial actions, responses, and facial expressions
individuals convey when greeting other people, whether a person is acknowledging a friend, co–
worker, family member, or a stranger, one would think that each person would greet everyone in
somewhat the same manner due to the nature of one's personality and regardless of their relationship
to that individual. I had the assumption that when people have a very bubbly and outgoing
personality they would greet everyone in the same vivacious way. Likewise, when individuals are
more reserved and less likely to take the initiative in introducing themselves to a stranger, I figured
they would be more shy and quiet in their responses. So what I wanted to do was count to three out
loud before saying, "Hello" back to my friends, co–workers, family members, and strangers'
greetings and see how they would react to this social norm violation. Therefore, the social norm I
chose to break was failing to respond directly to a person's greeting in the normal response rate and
additionally counting out loud to three before replying.
To get a fairly accurate conclusion of my findings, I responded to sixteen greetings in this peculiar
way. I gathered the reactions from four friends, four co–workers, four family members (although
three were over the phone), and four random strangers who came up to talk to me. Of the twelve

Autism is mostly defined by and impairment in speech/communication. It is made of other other
things, but it mostly is that. It comes in a scale, or spectrum, called the autism spectrum and consists
of high functioning and low functioning, with more complications. Most of the statements are
common generalizations, and don't mean that autism isn't autism without these qualities.
The most important part is how it affects social aspects. Often, talk with short sentences and phrases
