I got up from my seat on the floor against the lockers and walked into the room. Sitting at a table
facing the wall was a line of adjudicators who would judge my playing ability and determine
whether or not I pass. I placed my music on the lone stand in the middle of the room. My mouth
became dry and my hands started to shake more vigorously. I started to play. My first task was my
chromatic scale, every note that my instrument, clarinet, is capable of playing. Something that
outside the audition room that would otherwise seem elementary for me, however, I was incapable

Essay Review of the Band Periphery and Their Album Clear
Periphery–Clear Review Periphery is a band well known in the metal community as one of the
pioneers of the djent/progressive metal movement. They have gained a loyal and sizeable fanbase
through their previous two releases, Periphery and Periphery II: This Time It's Personal, as both
albums were very innovative and successful. Clear is Periphery's latest EP, released on 1/28/2014,
via Sumerian Records. This EP is a unique release, and deviates from the standard Periphery
releases in that instead of every Periphery member working on this record together, each member

"Pale Aura" is my favorite track off Clear and one of my favorite Periphery songs of all time, as
everything from the vocals, the instrumentals, to the mood of the track are pieced together so well
that it gives me chills. As a whole, there's really not much to complain about the E.P, as each
member did a tremendous job in their respective tracks, and the production work is unbelievably
well done. Lyrical work on Clear is similar to the musicianship on each track: different yet coherent.
Although only four of the tracks have vocals, and the lyrics are all written by different people, each
member of Periphery is so talented that none of the songs portray a drop in lyrical quality. My
favorite song lyrically would have to be "Feed the Ground", as the lyrics are so unique yet
interesting. "Shots fired and I've got a fucking reason, To suffocate when the breath leads to treason,
cut the ties, collect what's mine, burn everything to the fucking ground." However, the lyrics on
"Pale Aura", "The Parade of Ashes", and "The Summer Jam" are awesome as well, each fitting the
mood and atmosphere of the tracks. Overall, Clear by Periphery is a very impressive album, as we
are able to hear each individual member's music style and understand the band a lot better. Although

By 1984 Rock and Roll music was going through a changing phase. From break ups, tragic deaths
due to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and obnoxious solo performances, and
overly loud and unnecessary amps that almost sounded like they were going all the way to 11
instead of 10. It seemed that Rock and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical
genre. It is in this environment that the movie "This is Spinal Tap" bases itself in.
"This is Spinal Tap" is a 1984 mock documentary or "mockumentary" about a fictitious band named
Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of director Rob Reiner as he
interviews and follows the British band for their United States concert tour for their new album,
"Smell My Glove". Throughout the film and tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for
the band. From drops in concert attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial
imagery, sudden changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding
them back.
The film pokes fun at the many real life rock stars and bands that existed at the time; including Yes,
Early Genesis, Ritchie Blackmore, The Beatles, Dee Snider, Led Zeppelin etc., and how the media
and society viewed them during this era. It shows how society viewed Rock Stars as larger than life
idols, often overlooking their obvious flaws until it catches up to them; and contrasts it

Jon Krakauer's group, on April 16th, began their 2nd acclimatization starting from base camp and
climbing up too camp one. Hall, the group leader decided that he would like the climbers to stay at
camp one for two nights, camp two for one night, then after that, go back to the base camp. The next
morning they left for camp two, which is about four miles above where they were at camp one. On
his way up, Krakauer sees a dead body. The dead body stuns him for a little while but then he
continues on up the mountain towards camp two. The group makes it up to base two. The altitude
greatly affected Krakauer he mentioned how all that he could do was rest in his tent with his head in
his hands. The next day, after feeling a little nit better, climbs a little higher than camp two to work
more on his acclimatization. While on his climb he comes across another dead body but this one
does not affect him as greatly as the previous one. Jon's group began to climb; the wind chill was
forty degrees below zero. Jon, before he left, expected the sun to heat him up so he underdressed

Stand By Me (1986), directed by Rob Reiner is a movie portraying the adventure of four young
boys, on a journey of self discovery and maturing. The tension and suspence in the movie is
enhanced through different angles, sound effects and dialogue. The first time the audience see the
bridge, in the train bridge scene, it is a long shot of the boys and the tracks streched out infront of
them. This angle makes the boys seen small and weak. This idea is re inforced when the boys look

It gives them love and they love it too. The next thing I want to say which explores Australians
unique ways of thinking is their belief in what is right or wrong no matter who is involved. Because
the house means everything to Australians people, they will do everything they can to protect it. My

Mindset Reflective Essay
Honestly, I never really got into this book and I thought it was pretty pointless overall. It was in no
way interesting, hard, or thought provoking. It really made me realize how I'm in 8 grade and I'm
not a little kid anymore. Also, reading this book along with "Mindset", I really started to realize how
I took the easy way out by not reading a real classic. "Crossed" had a Lexile of around 650, whereas
my Lexile is around 1,200. Right about now I'm really regretting my decision to read this book
because I didn't have to stop and think about anything Next quarter I'm definitely going to read a
more challenging, thoughtful book. Since this book has such an easy Lexile, there wasn't a big

Throughout the whole book, Cassia constantly stated her interest in the Rising. Every time she
would mention it, Ky would say how much he hated it and he and Cassia would get in an argument.
That's why I was really surprised when he joined the Rising especially since he had to run the entire
way there, while Cassia and Indie got to canoe. This is significant because Ky hated the Rising with
all of his heart because it's the reason his parents were killed, but despite his hate for it, he joined it
anyway to be with Cassia. Getting this message from the book was pretty self– explanatory because
in the first book they had no disagreements, so their relationship was perfect. When their journey
through the Carving came to the point where they had to start thinking about if they were going to
join the Rising or the Farmers and they both wanted to go to different destinations, their relationship
became full of bickering. In the end, though, they loved each other so much that Ky gave up his hate
for the Rising to join it. This shows that if you love somebody enough that no matter what it is you
