Process Improvement Paper Military Treatment Facilities (MTF's) currently use an outpatient
electronic health record called the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application
(AHLTA). This system is designed uniquely for the military population with the ability to ensure no
matter where active duty members are stationed, their medical records are accessible and available
to providers. Unfortunately, since AHLTA's implementation, there have been serious deficiencies
with this EHR. For example, Rockswold and Finnell (2010) noted, "The standard templates in
AHLTA may be inadequate to document encounters, they may be too cumbersome to use, or take
too long to complete. Slow refresh rates and nonavailability of the system may lead clinicians to
workarounds" (p. 313). This outpatient EHR, albeit imperfect, has the potential to eliminate
medication errors if the functionality was restored to the outpatient system instead of relying of
another system for completion of this task. The projected process improvement is to only perform
medication reconciliation in the outpatient EHR versus performing this task in the legacy Composite

experiance, with the most amazing people people, and teachers. If it was not for school I would
definietly not know the accuracy of speed, the multitasking with communication, and computer
skills for a pharmacy that is needed. Being fast at what you do with know mistakes is a major task to
know in a pharmacy world. In retail pharmacy there are many prescriptions a day, so speed for
counting and lableing is a must. They do not want you to go to fast though because they want
accuracy also. Even with competetitors, this is where our speed needs to be, to get patients in and
out with smiling faces. For instance, Wallgreens where my extern is, since I have been there we had

electronic transmission of prescriptions between qualified medical practitioners and physicians. The
aim of the program is to improve the drug prescription system by avoiding errors resulting from
handwritten prescriptions. The E–prescribing program runs on various standards. These standards
are spelt out and added in Part D of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and
Modernization Act 2003 (CMS, 2013).
The standards outline clearly the eligibility criteria for prescribing physicians and participating
pharmacies. The standards also inform participants on best practice in issues regarding refill
prescriptions, cancellation of prescriptions and changes in prescription among other things.
Moreover, the standards cover administrative guidelines regarding the operation of the system. The
standards also cover the drugs covered by the benefits program of the E–Prescribing system. There
is a standard on medical history that allows prescribers access information on drugs currently
available to the patient so as to guide them in the prescription service. Fill Status Notification is a
standard that allows prescribers follow up on the prescriptions status such as it's been picked up or
not (CMS, 2013). This standard serves to allow prescribers follow their patients' adherence to

This morning began with a lecture by Nathan Pelsor of the Tally Eye Institute. Nathan spoke about
careers in eye care. According to Nathan, there are three main professions in the eye care field. The
first of the three is an Optician. This is the individual who fits glasses and contacts on to patients.
The next career is an Optometrist. Optometrists are the eye care professionals who conduct eye
exams and write prescriptions. The final profession that Nathan talked about was an Opthamologist.
Opthamologists are the eye care professionals that complete complex eye surgeries and examine

Prescription drugs are being used for nonmedical purposes and it is becoming so common that it has
been deemed an epidemic. Literature suggest that prescription drug abuse among college students is
high. This could be due to the stressful environments college students are placed in. Prescription
drugs will be discussed broadly but in some instances, limited to opioids. Many people are
prescribed medication on a daily basis and not everyone uses them as they are intended. What

who is in it? I have been in group therapy for quite awhile now for a couple of mental illnesses and
issues that I have which include severe depression, bipolar, anxiety, panic, anger issues, adhd, self–
harm, troubled sleeping and eating, suicidal with a high risk, along with a series of abuse of drugs
and alcohol. I am very isolated and most of the time all I do is lay in bed and do literally nothing
because I never feel like doing anything. I have been struggling through these things for about 2 and

and how that potentially effects buying habits of consumers. There have been studies on this in the
past but researchers failed to consider important factors such as age, exposure to advertising, health
conditions of their audience. Results of this study could allow advertisers to consider our findings
when producing advertisements. Consumers who see this study may also choose to do their own
research on the Rx or OTC they consider purchasing. Also, medical professionals that have the
authority to write Rx for their patients would be better informed of how the advertisements are
perceived, causing them to present these drugs more or less. Now, this could negatively affect the
pharmaceutical drug industry financially if doctors stop using their advertisements. However, that is
not our goal in this study, just mearly a side effect.

I remember a mixture of enthusiasm and dread prior to a visit from a Pennsylvania state
representative to my high school government and politics class. We were discussing local
educational funding and I had many questions for him about the topic. But more than anything I did
not want to embarrass myself. I went to bed early the previous night, and before class I guzzled two
cans of Monster energy drink.There was a safety pin in my pocket just in case. The first few minutes
of class I felt euphoric and was enthralled with the discussion on the local political landscape.
However, my energy quickly began to drain. I tried to focus on my notes but after a half hour I was
barely able to grip my pencil and saw that much of what I had written was incoherent scribble. In
desperation, I took the safety pin out of my pocket and frantically began stabbing the palm of my
hand. My efforts were for naught, because at some point I completely fell asleep only to wake up
five minutes before the lecture was over. This was a common occurrence throughout my high school
career but I was not correctly diagnosed with narcolepsy until the spring of my senior year. As a
result, much of my college experience was spent adjusting to life with this diagnosis.
Under the care of Dr. Cantor at the Penn Sleep Center, I felt confident that I could finally be a
