HUM 112 Assigment 2 Essay
Assignment 2: Project Paper Edwin D Giraldo Professor: Ibrahim H Alsaeed, Ph.D. HUM 112
11/29/14 Abstract In this paper, I choose to discuss three pieces of art from the 19th century
Impressionist period and three from the Post–Impressionist period and how these six pieces of art
compare to each style. Then I will draft a memo to the CEO of my company to describe the
appearance, so that they will have an idea of what the art looks like and where it should be placed
throughout the corporate offices. Next, we are going to explain the historical significance for each
piece of artwork that I choose. Finally, I will descried to the CEO of my company how each piece of
art matches the company's overall image. Office ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for placement of the last three paintings, I decided to put the A Lion Devouring its Prey in the
central work area to show the employees that hard work and dedication will get them the rewards
that they deserve for they have done for the company, the next one, In the Oise in the Valley, could
be placed in the main break room of the company, so that the employees have a place to relax and
not be disturbed in order to get away from the regular environment that any workplace create, even
though just for a little while from their rigorous job, and The Yellow Books could be placed where
the company keeps all its information on the business to represent how the business conducts itself
and what the future holds for the business and all the customers. Explain why each piece is
considered to be historically significant. Pierre Auguste Renoir made his mark historically on the
surfaces of his paintings by using small dabs of pigment that were applied uniformly, but his brush
strokes were somewhat nervous, but yet he used the sunlight effects that were achieved with colored
shadows, and loose brushwork.

Assignment 3: Cultural Activity Report HUM111 Instructions; Rubric BASED on Course Guide, pp.

Due by 9am Eastern Time on Monday, March 17 (worth 100 points) As a way of experiencing the
Humanities beyond your classroom, computer, and textbook, you are asked to do a certain type of
"cultural activity" that fits well with our course and then report on your experience. Your instructor
will require you to propose an activity and get instructor approval before you do it and report on it
(students should look for any instructions in that respect). Every effort should be made to ensure that

Every report should be using at least the class text as one source for which they have a reference and
one or more in–text citations. The need for referencing is limited in most cases to the class text, but
certain types of activities can very well lead to needing to cite more sources. . An excellent report
would make connections to things in the class text, and so would use in–text citing to specific things
in the class text–and a reference to it at the end. Also, you can cite some background information
that you find at other sources in print or online. Whatever sources you do use should be cited in the
APA style with both in–text citations and a References) list at the end. But, keep in mind, most of
your report is on what you see and hear doing this. There are events that might be exceptions, but
this is the general approach here.
Visiting a Museum
It makes sense to approach a museum the way a seasoned traveler approaches visiting a city for the
first time. Find out what there is available to see. In the museum, find out what sort of exhibitions
are currently housed in the museum and start with the exhibits that interest you.
If there is a travelling exhibition, it's always a good idea to see it while you have the chance. Then, if

Hum/111 Week 2 Assignment
This is my fourth semester attending Lamar Institute of Technology. The thing that seemed to be
most difficult was that most students are not offered outside opinions on teachers and the classes
offered. It seems like a challenge due to the fact that as students he or she does not know what he or
she are getting into. Registering for classes was pretty simple as you sit in front of an advisor and
pick out classes they suggest. Literally giving you less than ten minutes to choose teachers based on
times and what days of the week they occur. This can cause a conflict of interest of not getting to
know who he or she will be spending a whole semester with by trying to find strategies to survive.
Given this he or she has issues selecting teachers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He or she would like to know if they will get along with a teacher or will they look forward to a
semester of trouble of not getting along for 16 weeks. When registering for classes it would be a lot
easier if he or she had a small simple description of the teacher and the course they are about to take.
Each teacher is different and how they teach the classes. Certain students learn a different way and
this could be a key element to helping a student pass if they knew how the teacher taught. It could
ease a student into new classes if they knew information about his or her future teacher and that they
know what to expect on the first day of classes relieving stress and anxiety. In conclusion, it would
help a student make an appropriate choice of a teacher and their course if a student were offered a
description or outside opinions. Many learn by different ways and if a description of how the teacher
taught could help a student learn faster and understand the course a lot better. It would help him or

Hum 115 Oil Pipeline Research Paper
Oil Pipelines Opposing Viewpoints Clayton Brooks HUM/115 Dr. Disque Oil Pipelines Opposing
View Points Pipeline is the best alternative and safest mode of transporting fuel compared to freight
trains or tanker tracks. However, there are those who argue that it is not safe because of lack of
adequate resources to inspect them, as well as the absence of regulations regarding the use of a
pipeline to transport fuel. Equally important, another issue is the great hazard to human life and
environment that can be difficult to control or eliminate in case of a spill. Explanation of Two
Different Points of View Regarding the Topic Opponents of the use of the pipeline mode to transport
fuel claim that it is responsible for numerous deaths that occur annually. The rate of increased
accidents is attributable to the fact that as a mode of fuel transportation, minimal oversight, outdated

The authors contend that a majority of individuals often confuse ethics with acting in line with the
law, religious beliefs, and social conventions. Consequently, people depend on various principles
and concepts to differentiate between helpful and harmful behaviors. The opponents base their
arguments regarding the topic on the concept of law. According to their arguments, the pipeline
unlike other modes of transporting fuel is not well–regulated. Likewise, its accidents are
catastrophic and often attract the attention of the government and the media. Therefore, the pipeline
should not be utilized as an alternative to transporting fuel because it is quite dangerous. However,
those with the opposing viewpoints base their arguments on social conventions. The opponents
claim that the pipeline is the safest way because the fatalities that result from the use of tanks or
freight trains are 70 times higher compared to that of the

Hum 105 WORLD MYTHOLOGY Essay
Hum 105~World Mythology
Assignment One
How is the word myth used popularly? For example, what does the statement, "It's a myth" mean?
In contrast, how is the word myth used in the academic context? After considering the definition in
your textbooks and course materials, write a definition in your own words.
The word myth is used most popularly in tales and stories. These tales and stories have been passed
down from generation to generation and are based on some truth, but mostly an idea or common
theme. The statement "It's a myth" means that a tale or story may be based on some truth, but that it
is also based on fiction. For example, if one of your friends told you that they saw a UFO it would
be hard to believe them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is the relationship between belief, knowledge, mythology, and religion? Where do mythology
and religion intersect? Where do they diverge? Think about the function of myth and religion in
helping human beings cope with change, suffering, loss, and death.
The very first thing I am able to think of with this is the Bible. It encompasses everything that has
been asked. As far as humans being able to cope, it is said in the Bible that "I can do all things
through God who strengthens me." Even with this example, one can assume that there is literally
nothing that cannot be done, as long as God is on your side. The Bible also encompasses suffering,
loss and death just through the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Having said that, its what happens after
that that can be tied directly to mythology. He is resurrected from the dead ascends into Heaven,
thus creating that idea that one is capable of immortality, even if you have died. Where this diverges
is that unlike Greek mythology, most people who identify themselves as
Christians will not recognize the Bible as one of the greatest stories of mythology, ever.
How would you defend mythology's relevance in contemporary culture? Think about familial and
cultural traditions. Also, consider how mythology is used in the

Hum By Naomi Shihab Nye Summary
On September 11, 2001 America was attacked by terrorists at the World Trade Center in New York
City and The Pentagon in Washington D.C. Planes crashed into these buildings and killed thousands
of people, and injured even more. This tore families apart. Also, many people believed that Muslim
and Islamic people were responsible for the terrorist attacks. This was a very sad time for the nation
because it was very rough for citizens with different races and religions. In the story "Hum" by
Naomi Shihab Nye, the cartoon "Ahmed Mohamed" by Adam Zyglis and the article "How 9/11
Changed These Muslims Americans' Lives Forever" by Lydia O'Connor, it is clear that the aftermath
of 9/11 resulted in horrible discrimination around the USA. In the story, "Hum," by Naomi Shihab
Nye, a young Palestinian boy named Sami faces discrimination first hand from his classmates after
the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Sami Salsa just moved to America from Israel with his mom and dad.

In this cartoon Uncle Sam is holding a newspaper with the title that states, "Texas teen Mohamed
Arrested for making a clock" (Zyglis). The newspaper title clearly shows that Muslims and Arabs
are being treated unfairly because it is not a crime to build a clock. The young teen, Mohamed, was
arrested because people around him thought he was building a bomb since he is Muslim. This is one
of many acts of discrimination because people assumed that he was building an explosive. In the
picture, Uncle Sam says that his clock is stuck at 9/11 because 9/11 was a time period where
discrimination was so strong. This shows that even years after this terrible occurrence people in
America still discriminate against Muslims because of an event that happened so long

Easily Obtainable Information
In the age of cutting edge technology such as the world in which we live, easily obtainable
information has turned out to be a mainstay in society. The days of instant–gratification are upon us
and waiting for any length of time since the advent of the Internet has become unacceptable in the
technological arena. Because information is so easily available, this gives pause to security and
privacy of personal identifiable information. With headlines screaming Identity Theft the
disadvantages are clear. No longer can users post whatever they are thinking, doing, wearing, etc.
without the profound knowledge that each post is forever solidified forever on the World Wide Web
for anyone with an Internet connection to access. Those with less technological knowledge have yet
to grasp this concept and this unfortunately has caused harm to their personal lives and professional
careers, in some cases.
Advantages of Easily Obtainable Information
One point of preference of adequately realistic data is practicality. It is advantageous for individuals
to be in one place and catch the most blazing news, listen to the crisp top melodies on the
announcement diagrams, watch and share the music recordings to those tunes, while in the
meantime holding discussions through talk with various companions in a flash. It is simpler than

Comparing Alex's Take Oil And Hum
I think the fissure in "Take Oil and Hum" that Alex identifies between humans as a species and
humans as subjects defined by petroleum usage is very pertinent and illustrates the reflexive effects
of the Anthropocene, in other words, how its conception adjusts anthropological understandings.
This appears to argue for a kind of alienation of the reader by way of defamiliarizing the speaker's
dystopian visions. However, I feel that some aspects of "Take Oil and Hum", such as seas of oil and
the "Beetle laden carpet" (28) of interior British Columbia, are all but too familiar.
Although sections of the poem may distance the reader from the contemporary petroleum subject,
there is also a side of the poem more concerned with praxis and activism that attempts to enlist the
reader in shared defiance of the Northern Gateway Pipeline. The final stanza of poem connects
humans at sites of protest around the world, "Bangkok", "Tahrir", and "Tiananmen" (29), by way of
"A computer screen", and through "A life in updates" (28). In the connected spaces of technology,
there is "Black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regarded in this way, The Enpipe Line is a necessary expression of an imperiled ecosystem of
which humans form but one part. The heteroglossic character of the human voice in The Enpipe

understanding of the human as a species in relation to other species in an environment that would be
endangered by the Northern Gateway Pipeline. This analysis returns us to Alex's proposal of "a
critical reconceptualisation of ourselves as species" and displacement of the modern–petro subject,

What are the advantages and disadvantages of easily obtainable information? The Internet is full of

The Significance of the Buddhist Mantra
In Dharamsala, India, in an open square, a Tibetan refugee sits exposed to the full force of the sun.
His skin is baked brown and wrinkled from many afternoons such as this one. He is thin as a rail,
and his legs fold beneath him in a way that looks painful to the westerners who pass him. He wears
tattered rags and looks unwashed, but sports a long white beard–a prized rarity among Tibetans. His

He returns to his room and waits for his wife to return from her day's adventures. But later that night
he ponders what he really learned: that om has three letters, that mani is a jewel and padme (as the
word the Tibetans pronounce "peme" is written) a lotus, and that hum (the Tibetan's "hung") is an
inherent contradiction. The next morning, when he boards his plane to Newark, he has passed his
final judgment on the blind man: though he may be a great practitioner of Buddhism, he is a silly,
superstitious man, and has grown far too fond of pretty words.
What are we to make of the fable above? Is it the story of a Westerner hastily passing judgment on a
tradition he does not understand? Certainly it is. The study of Tibetan Buddhism is the effort of a
lifetime–perhaps several–and a non–practicing Christian interloper from Hoboken is hardly
qualified to pontificate on the matter. (For the moment we will say nothing of an American college
student who has merely read a few books on the subject).
Yet is it not also possible that there is some truth to the ignorant man's claims? That what lies behind
the sacred institution of mantra is less profound esoterica than it is the pure, childish delight taken in
the sounds of language? This paper will seek to explore this possibility, both in the abstract and
through the particulars of the mantra of Avalokitesvara,

The first probe we did in class was on September, 26th. In this probe we closed our eyes, and sat in
silence for sixty seconds. As soon as I closed my eyes, I instantly felt different. My eyes once closed
felt heavy, and slightly burned. It was almost as if I had been told keep my eyes held open for sixty
seconds. I was no longer wide awake, and mind raring to learn and to go, go. No smell hit me, as the
classroom was a scent free room , and I was sitting next to a girl who likely showered every day. I
could taste the salty sweat on my lips, that gathered due to the hot humidity outside. My ears
searching quickly caught the steady hum of the lights overhead. Not focusing too deeply on the hum

The second probe we did was on October, 3rd. During this probe no one was allowed to take notes,
except for three elected students. These students then put the notes on D2L. During this probe, at
first I was stressed out. My neck was tight, and my legs were jittery. My eyes bounced around the
room. Quickly taking note of the power point at the front of the room, other students, and passer
byers outside the windows lining the far wall. There was a cool breeze coming in through the
classroom window making my skin feel slightly chilled. The feeling of stress quickly dissipated as
class progressed though. My legs slowed, and neck relaxed. I found myself sitting back in my chair,
listening to the class as it went by. In class we talked about symbols, touching on connotative and
denotative meanings. I found that I was understanding the information more fully than I usually do,
and was much more interested . I was more focused on listening and comprehension, rather than on
trying to annotate in short what was being said.
The were times however when I lost focus, and I did find it harder to come back to focus than usual.
Usually when I lose focus, I concentrate on writing my notes, or drawing a small picture in my
margins to help me to regain focus. This time around though I couldn't do that, and I found myself
taking longer to regain focus. I tried countless things to regain focus for instance, keeping eye

World Religion Report – Buddhism
Buddhism originated in the early Fifth century BCE, from the teachings of Siddhartha Buddha
(Fisher, 2005). Plagued by the desire to help end human suffering, Buddha reached a state of pure
enlightenment showing him the way to end earthly suffering. Through meditation, people can
control the desires of their human nature. By gaining control of our desires we can end our suffering.
He taught his wisdom to all that wanted to learn. After his death, three main forms of Buddhism
emerged; there was the Theravada's, the Mahayana's, and the Zen Buddhists (Fisher, 2005). For the
sake of this report, the local Buddhist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One particular woman was quick to respond by saying it has brought so much peace into her life.
She had been raised Catholic, but said she struggled with the everyday practices and the guilt of
knowing she could never overcome her sins. She found it hard to pray every day to the saints for
help and never felt like she was a better person. A friend of hers introduced her to Buddhism and she
found with Buddhism she was able to help herself with meditation (personal communication, August
2, 2011).
At this point Kelsang Chandra entered the room, after making her tea we began talking. She began
by asking me how I found the Center, I told her through the internet. I was informed that many
students come to the center for school projects so she was happy to assist me as well. I first started
by asking about the offerings left on alters, since Buddha is just a man. They said it was left there
out of respect and giving thanks for guidance received. When asked about reconnecting with our
past lives, she stated that our minds are too cloudy to know of other existences. Kelsang Chandra
stated, though they do believe in reincarnation and that when this body dies the knowledge gained
will be added to the collection and carried forward to the next existence (personal communication,

"Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." I try to live by this quote by
Charles R. Swindoll every day. I feel that this is a strong quote with a lot of meaning behind it and,
it can be interpreted in many ways. In my opinion, we should see things in a positive way all the
time. We also should do what we love every day because you never know how close you are to the
end. Just this past summer I had one of the best weeks of my life not realizing how precious the
experiences I had were. I had been on a canoe trek with my boy scout troop from here in Tenafly.
The week was very fun. We canoed every day, saw beautiful things, met lots of new people, and did

if the party can not agree on finding the solution to this problem than it will always be an issue.
(3).The reader believes the credibility of the sources is very much strong, because both articles gave
many resources and data in which you may go find for yourself to see if indeed the facts are the
facts, they also have cited were they got their information. They got books to further your reader
too.
(4). The first step is to work out the details, the second step is to finding imperfections and
complication. Working out the details means to determine exactly how your solution will be applied.
The reader next step will be to check for common kinds of imperfections. How can the reader get
people to see his point of view, that's one solution? Be very clear when making his argument. The
reader resolution to the topic is to first get all parties to agree on the subject at hand which is media
violence and what we can do to fix this problem, we know this was an issue at first than it became a

(5).The reader will focus on his own ideas in which he knows because of the research that was done
by him. The second safeguard is to use his ego to advantage.

Worker B5-8-9-2 Reporting
A siren resonated around the blinding white walls of the moulded plastic room. The deafening noise,
like a brash crashing of cymbals, was followed by an impassive metallic voice. It roared through the
sonic speakers. "Worker B3–8–2–4, you have received a promotion." She straightened in her chair
and looked fearfully across the desk at her co–worker. He was frozen, hands poised over the
keyboard, transfixed by her shrieks as she was dragged away from the cubicle by enforcers. The
door shut with a thud. The only sound now was a hum of electricity that emanated from the two
monitors on the bare plastic desk. It filled the vacuum that had been left behind by yet another of the
disappeared. The worker let the air trapped in his lungs escape in a sigh. He arched his lower back;
crossed and uncrossed his legs, and reached for the pair of worn weathered headphones on top of the
monitor. The response was instant. An impassive metallic voice directed the worker through his next
task. 'Worker B5–8–9–2, proceed to Section 231 of the Worker's Manual.' The automated system
droned. 'Delete "but" and replace with "and". Thank you for your cooperation.' At that moment the
new replacement shuffled into the featureless cubicle and slumped down opposite him. He fitted his
own headphones and began keying meaningless changes into the system. The new, clean–shaven
recruit, garbed in the dark grey overalls of the company, appeared oblivious to the world around
him. He lay hunched over the

(5) Printing The earliest printing in China was the block printing method in the first Century B.C.,
where the individual sheets of paper were pressed against wooden blocks that had text and
illustrations carved into them. This process could print hundreds and even thousands of copies, this
technology played a significant role in promoting the spread of culture. A block carver named Bi
Sheng made movable types with clay during the period from1004 to 1048. This method each type
was carved with one character and the types could be set independently according to contents of
different articles. After printing, the movable types could be reused and this improved technology is
called movable–type printing. (LAN, 2008) (6) Row Planting
The Chinese also invented the way to grow crops by placing them in rows sometime in the 6th
century BC. This allowed the crops to grow faster and stronger. This was not instituted in the
western world for another 2200 years. Master Lu wrote in the "Spring and Autumn Annals": 'If the
crops are grown in rows they will mature rapidly because they will not interfere with each other's
growth. The horizontal rows must be well drawn, the vertical rows made with skill, for if the lines
are straight the wind will pass gently through.' This text was compiled around 240 BC. (Stevenh,

other is the Old Cathedral "La Vieja." Construction began on the original cathedral in the 12th

Cathedral is a prime example of Romanic architecture while The New Cathedral is a prime example
of Gothic architecture. Much of the cathedral is covered in detailed carvings. The new cathedral was

Recruiting Strategies 1. What are three recruiting strategies that could be used to recruit for this job
position? a. The most common recruiting strategy is advertising in newspapers and on employment
websites. b. Networking can prove to be a great resource to find suitable candidates. c. Promoting
from within is another strong source. 2. In 350– to 500–words, compare and contrast the recruiting
strategies you have chosen. Which recruiting strategy would you use to recruit for this position?
Why? The most common recruiting strategy of seeking a candidate from internet websites is a good
source because it allows you to see a large group of candidates at one time, and you can tailor your
searches to target in on the ideal candidate. Networking, in the sense of just talking to people is also
a good source because usually in this process you will come across someone who can put you in
touch with the right people to find what you're looking for; these people come with a referral so it's
not like starting at zero and only knowing them on paper. Lastly, is hiring from within another
strong route to get the right person in place, these people are those who have a proven record with
the organization. They are easy to verify based off of in house reviews. The difference in the three is

2. The theme of The Joshua Tree is based on the spiritual uncertainty of Bono's experiences in life.
In the song "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", Bono is in a moment of spiritual doubt.
He writes "You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains, carried the cross... I still haven't found

Furthermore, in the next song, "Where The Streets Have No Name" is built on what Bono thinks is

Then, if
you have time, you can look at other things in the museum.
Every effort should be made ahead of time to identify a museum that has items and works one can
easily connect to our HUM 111 class and book. Since HUM 111 covers from ancient times to the
1500s AD, it makes more sense to focus on items from that time frame. In general, museums with
artistic cultural artifacts and fine arts work better than history museums.
Any questions about whether a museum–visit activity fits the course and assignment well enough
will be decided by the instructor when the student seeks approval for the activity. Any alternative

of technology. "The Internet", which today is one of the easiest ways to obtain quick information
without allot of effort. There are millions of people from around the world that use the Internet as a
tool to communicate, search, and find information on about any topic imaginable. (Aynur, Nejat,
2015). In this Essay on Social Media, we will be discussing the advantages and disadvantages of
easily obtainable information, the advantages and disadvantages of social media, and importantly
how knowing of these things can alter how a person might use social media, as well as the
credibility issues that arise from the information on the Internet.
The advantages and disadvantages of easily obtainable information, is convenience. By having
newer communication technologies like social media, it has become the everyday norm to obtain
information on social media instantaneously. Which is one advantage, everyone is into convenience,
fast, like yesterday, (myself included), obtainable information is just that "convenient". Everything
is right at your fingertips, for example, an individual can be in one place and catch the latest news
headline or editorial, while at the same time listening to their favorite tunes, view that video and
share it all at the same time. An awesome multitasking advantages. Back in the day, the news would
be read in a newspaper or viewed on your television, on the radio, or in the car on the way to work
Listening to your favorite song would also be played either on your Walkman, in the car, or at home.
Another advantage is the easily obtained information we receive off social media, it has become an
expectancy more than an advantage, it's known as the all information quick source, that includes
information about serious topics, like circulating up–to–date minute information about cholera
outbreaks in Haiti, identifying clearer water resources during the outbreak, (Fox 2011), Health
professionals and health organizations are also seeing the advantages of adopting social media
because of its seen as an

Belonging Hum: A Short Story
THEY WERE ABANDONING HIM. The wounded man knew it when he looked at the boy, who
looked down, then away, unwilling to hold his gaze. For days, the boy had argued with the man in
the wolf–skin hat. Has it really been days? The wounded man had battled his fever and pain, never
certain whether conversations he heard were real, or merely by–products of the delirious wanderings
in his mind. He looked up at the soaring rock formation above the clearing. A lone, twisted pine had
managed somehow to grow from the sheer face of the stone. He had stared at it many times, yet it
had never appeared to him as it did at that moment, when its perpendicular lines seemed clearly to
form a cross. He accepted for the first time that he would die there in that ... Show more content on

Unable to speak, the man raised his working arm and pointed. "He wants his rifle," said the boy. "He
wants us to set him up with his rifle." The man in the wolf skin covered the ground between them in
quick, measured steps. He kicked the boy hard, square in the back. "Move, goddamn you!" He
strode quickly from the boy to the wounded man, who lay next to the meager pile of his possessions:
a possibles bag, a knife in a beaded scabbard, a hatchet, a rifle, and a powder horn. As the wounded
man watched helplessly, the man in the wolf skin stooped to pick up the possibles bag. He dug
inside for the flint and steel, dropping them into the pocket on the front of his leather tunic. He
grabbed the powder horn and slung it over his shoulder. The hatchet he tucked under his broad
leather belt. "What're you doing?" asked the boy. The man stooped again, picked up the knife, and
tossed it to the boy. "Take that." The boy caught it, staring in horror at the scabbard in his hand.
Only the rifle remained. The man in the wolf skin picked it up, checking quickly to ensure it was
charged. "Sorry, old Glass. You ain't got much more use for any of

Every report should be using at least the class text as one source for which they have a reference and one or more in–text citations. The need for referencing is limited in most cases to the class text, but certain types of activities can very well lead to needing to cite more sources. . An excellent report would make connections to things in the class text, and so would use in–text citing to specific things in the class text–and a reference to it at the end. • 5. Hum/111 Week 2 Assignment This is my fourth semester attending Lamar Institute of Technology. The thing that seemed to be most difficult was that most students are not offered outside opinions on teachers and the classes offered. It seems like a challenge due to the fact that as students he or she does not know what he or she are getting into. Registering for classes was pretty simple as you sit in front of an advisor and pick out classes they suggest. Literally giving you less than ten minutes to choose teachers based on times and what days of the week they occur. This can cause a conflict of interest of not getting to know who he or she will be spending a whole semester with by trying to find strategies to survive. Given this he or she has issues selecting teachers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He or she would like to know if they will get along with a teacher or will they look forward to a semester of trouble of not getting along for 16 weeks. When registering for classes it would be a lot easier if he or she had a small simple description of the teacher and the course they are about to take. Each teacher is different and how they teach the classes. Certain students learn a different way and this could be a key element to helping a student pass if they knew how the teacher taught. It could ease a student into new classes if they knew information about his or her future teacher and that they know what to expect on the first day of classes relieving stress and anxiety. In conclusion, it would help a student make an appropriate choice of a teacher and their course if a student were offered a description or outside opinions. Many learn by different ways and if a description of how the teacher taught could help a student learn faster and understand the course a lot better. Hum 115 Oil Pipeline Research Paper Oil Pipelines Opposing Viewpoints Clayton Brooks HUM/115 Dr. Disque Oil Pipelines Opposing View Points Pipeline is the best alternative and safest mode of transporting fuel compared to freight trains or tanker tracks. However, there are those who argue that it is not safe because of lack of adequate resources to inspect them, as well as the absence of regulations regarding the use of a pipeline to transport fuel. Equally important, another issue is the great hazard to human life and environment that can be difficult to control or eliminate in case of a spill. Explanation of Two Different Points of View Regarding the Topic Opponents of the use of the pipeline mode to transport fuel claim that it is responsible for numerous deaths that occur annually. The rate of increased accidents is attributable to the fact that as a mode of fuel transportation, minimal oversight, outdated pipes, and insufficient precautions subject ... Consequently, people depend on various principles and concepts to differentiate between helpful and harmful behaviors. The opponents base their arguments regarding the topic on the concept of law. According to their arguments, the pipeline unlike other modes of transporting fuel is not well–regulated. Likewise, its accidents are catastrophic and often attract the attention of the government and the media. Therefore, the pipeline should not be utilized as an alternative to transporting fuel because it is quite dangerous. In contrast, how is the word myth used in the academic context? After considering the definition in your textbooks and course materials, write a definition in your own words. The word myth is used most popularly in tales and stories. These tales and stories have been passed down from generation to generation and are based on some truth, but mostly an idea or common theme. The statement "It's a myth" means that a tale or story may be based on some truth, but that it is also based on fiction. For example, if one of your friends told you that they saw a UFO it would be hard to believe them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is the relationship between belief, knowledge, mythology, and religion? Where do mythology and religion intersect? Where do they diverge? Think about the function of myth and religion in helping human beings cope with change, suffering, loss, and death. The very first thing I am able to think of with this is the Bible. It encompasses everything that has been asked. As far as humans being able to cope, it is said in the Bible that "I can do all things through God who strengthens me." Even with this example, one can assume that there is literally nothing that cannot be done, as long as God is on your side. The Bible also encompasses suffering, loss and death just through the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Having said that, its what happens after that that can be tied directly to mythology. He is resurrected from the dead ascends into Heaven, thus creating that idea that one is capable of immortality, even if you have died. • 16. Hum By Naomi Shihab Nye Summary On September 11, 2001 America was attacked by terrorists at the World Trade Center in New York City and The Pentagon in Washington D.C. Planes crashed into these buildings and killed thousands of people, and injured even more. This tore families apart. Also, many people believed that Muslim and Islamic people were responsible for the terrorist attacks. This was a very sad time for the nation because it was very rough for citizens with different races and religions. In the story "Hum" by Naomi Shihab Nye, the cartoon "Ahmed Mohamed" by Adam Zyglis and the article "How 9/11 Changed These Muslims Americans' Lives Forever" by Lydia O'Connor, it is clear that the aftermath of 9/11 resulted in horrible discrimination around the USA. In the story, "Hum," by Naomi Shihab Nye, a young Palestinian boy named Sami faces discrimination first hand from his classmates after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Sami Salsa just moved to America from Israel with his mom and dad. When Sami goes to school all the kids already think he is different because of his funny name, language, and accent he ... The newspaper title clearly shows that Muslims and Arabs are being treated unfairly because it is not a crime to build a clock. The young teen, Mohamed, was arrested because people around him thought he was building a bomb since he is Muslim. This is one of many acts of discrimination because people assumed that he was building an explosive. In the picture, Uncle Sam says that his clock is stuck at 9/11 because 9/11 was a time period where discrimination was so strong. The days of instant–gratification are upon us and waiting for any length of time since the advent of the Internet has become unacceptable in the technological arena. Because information is so easily available, this gives pause to security and privacy of personal identifiable information. With headlines screaming Identity Theft the disadvantages are clear. No longer can users post whatever they are thinking, doing, wearing, etc. without the profound knowledge that each post is forever solidified forever on the World Wide Web for anyone with an Internet connection to access. Those with less technological knowledge have yet to grasp this concept and this unfortunately has caused harm to their personal lives and professional careers, in some cases. Advantages of Easily Obtainable Information One point of preference of adequately realistic data is practicality. It is advantageous for individuals to be in one place and catch the most blazing news, listen to the crisp top melodies on the announcement diagrams, watch and share the music recordings to those tunes, while in the meantime holding discussions through talk with various companions in a flash. • 24. Comparing Alex's Take Oil And Hum I think the fissure in "Take Oil and Hum" that Alex identifies between humans as a species and humans as subjects defined by petroleum usage is very pertinent and illustrates the reflexive effects of the Anthropocene, in other words, how its conception adjusts anthropological understandings. This appears to argue for a kind of alienation of the reader by way of defamiliarizing the speaker's dystopian visions. However, I feel that some aspects of "Take Oil and Hum", such as seas of oil and the "Beetle laden carpet" (28) of interior British Columbia, are all but too familiar. Although sections of the poem may distance the reader from the contemporary petroleum subject, there is also a side of the poem more concerned with praxis and activism that attempts to enlist the reader in shared defiance of the Northern Gateway Pipeline. The final stanza of poem connects humans at sites of protest around the world, "Bangkok", "Tahrir", and "Tiananmen" (29), by way of "A computer screen", and through "A life in updates" (28). With a growing number of people using the Internet and social media the advantages and disadvantages become more prevalent. It is important for society to distinguish between the two in order to effectively and safely use the Internet and social media. What are the advantages and disadvantages of easily obtainable information? The Internet is full of endless information that is easily available at our fingertips. There are advantages and disadvantages to having access to such easily obtainable information. One advantage would be the ability to acquire more knowledge by having access to information outside of a classroom or seminar. Gaining this information can help with school or work projects if you are able to find helpful information. It is also a quick and convenient method of gathering data. His eyes, blind and white as his beard, stare placidly into the distance, then flutter as he lifts his head and begins to chant. "Om mani peme hung," he calls. "Om mani peme hung." The next morning, when he boards his plane to Newark, he has passed his final judgment on the blind man: though he may be a great practitioner of Buddhism, he is a silly, superstitious man, and has grown far too fond of pretty words. At this point Kelsang Chandra entered the room, after making her tea we began talking. She began by asking me how I found the Center, I told her through the internet. I was informed that many students come to the center for school projects so she was happy to assist me as well. I first started by asking about the offerings left on alters, since Buddha is just a man. They said it was left there out of respect and giving thanks for guidance received. When asked about reconnecting with our past lives, she stated that our minds are too cloudy to know of other existences. Kelsang Chandra stated, though they do believe in reincarnation and that when this body dies the knowledge gained will be added to the collection and carried forward to the next existence (personal communication, August 2, 2011). I feel that this is a strong quote with a lot of meaning behind it and, it can be interpreted in many ways. In my opinion, we should see things in a positive way all the time. We also should do what we love every day because you never know how close you are to the end. Just this past summer I had one of the best weeks of my life not realizing how precious the experiences I had were. I had been on a canoe trek with my boy scout troop from here in Tenafly. The week was very fun. We canoed every day, saw beautiful things, met lots of new people, and did some of the best activities many of us had ever done. The others had gotten into a car crash. He was going about 80–85 mph. Then, a van cut in front of him and he lost control of his vehicle. Trying to gain it back, he swerved for about 500 feet. Soon the truck veered off the road and slammed into the guardrail as hard as a brick. Upon impact, his front left wheel flew off the truck along with other objects in the back. Then, out of nowhere the truck started to smoke. Fortunately the truck didn't set on fire and they were instantly rushed to the hospital by emergency personnel. Once we made it there we found out that the adult leader had hurt his wrist, one scout had a concussion and a chipped tooth, and the other had a red mark on his neck from the seat ... The deafening noise, like a brash crashing of cymbals, was followed by an impassive metallic voice. It roared through the sonic speakers. "Worker B3–8–2–4, you have received a promotion." She straightened in her chair and looked fearfully across the desk at her co–worker. He was frozen, hands poised over the keyboard, transfixed by her shrieks as she was dragged away from the cubicle by enforcers. The door shut with a thud. The only sound now was a hum of electricity that emanated from the two monitors on the bare plastic desk. It filled the vacuum that had been left behind by yet another of the disappeared. The worker let the air trapped in his lungs escape in a sigh. He arched his lower back; crossed and uncrossed his legs, and reached for the pair of worn weathered headphones on top of the monitor. The response was instant. An impassive metallic voice directed the worker through his next task. 'Worker B5–8–9–2, proceed to Section 231 of the Worker's Manual.' The automated system droned. 'Delete "but" and replace with "and". Thank you for your cooperation.' At that moment the new replacement shuffled into the featureless cubicle and slumped down opposite him. He fitted his own headphones and began keying meaningless changes into the system. This process could print hundreds and even thousands of copies, this technology played a significant role in promoting the spread of culture. A block carver named Bi Sheng made movable types with clay during the period from1004 to 1048. This method each type was carved with one character and the types could be set independently according to contents of different articles. After printing, the movable types could be reused and this improved technology is called movable–type printing. (LAN, 2008) (6) Row Planting The Chinese also invented the way to grow crops by placing them in rows sometime in the 6th century BC. This allowed the crops to grow faster and stronger. This was not instituted in the western world for another 2200 years. Master Lu wrote in the "Spring and Autumn Annals": 'If the crops are grown in rows they will mature rapidly because they will not interfere with each other's growth. The horizontal rows must be well drawn, the vertical rows made with skill, for if the lines are straight the wind will pass gently through.' This text was compiled around 240 BC. (Stevenh, 2009)

The Old Cathedral is a prime example of Romanic architecture while The New Cathedral is a prime example of Gothic architecture. Much of the cathedral is covered in detailed carvings. Thanks to the convergence and development of technology. "The Internet", which today is one of the easiest ways to obtain quick information without allot of effort. There are millions of people from around the world that use the Internet as a tool to communicate, search, and find information on about any topic imaginable. (Aynur, Nejat, 2015). An awesome multitasking advantages. Back in the day, the news would be read in a newspaper or viewed on your television, on the radio, or in the car on the way to work Listening to your favorite song would also be played either on your Walkman, in the car, or at home.
