First Presidential Debates
The participants of the first presidential debate are; Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The debate was 90 minutes long, and divided into 6 segments
of 15 minutes each one. The three main topics of the debate were; Achieving prosperity, American's direction, and Securing America.
Achieving prosperity:
Hillary Clinton stated:
To build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top.
To raise the national minimum wage and also guarantee, finally, equal pay for women's work.
To have the wealthy pay their fair share and close the corporate loopholes.
To have a tax system that rewards work and not just financial transactions.
Donald Trump stated:
People are using the U.S as a piggy bank to rebuild their economies.

In addition to provide the best information to viewers and listeners to help them take a decision based on the candidate's best goals for the country.
Every candidate has different proposals for the success of the country, and people have to judge on each of the candidate's proposals.
In my opinion, the debate and the questions were well structured; however, both of the candidates did not focusing on answering the questions
correctly, more than half of the debate was spend on accusing each other about past things, and blaming each other for bad decisions in their past.
Instead they should be focusing in explaining their goals for the country.
I believe that the first debate did not accomplish its goals. The public was more confused after listening to each other. Both of them have strong
personalities with good and bad things about them. I believe that the candidates should focus more on their leadership's skills, and speeches with strong
objectives that shows why they are the best candidate to be the future president of the United

The Debate Over Presidential Debates
What topics are labeled important enough to be talked about during presidential debates? Topics such as terrorism and national security; the economy;
jobs and employment; and the Affordable Care Act and Healthcare all managed to be the center of attention during all debates. What topics were
almost entirely ignored? Topics such as gun policy; social issues like LGBT rights and abortion; and the environment andclimate change were put to
the side to instead talk about Hillary Clinton's email scandal or the sexual assault charges brought up against Donald Trump. While terrorism and
national security; the economy; jobs and employment; and the Affordable Care Act and Healthcare are all very important topics, but one topic that was
ignored and should have been at the forefront of the debate was climate change.
Issues like renewable energy, hydraulic fracking, anthropogenic greenhouse gases, and the Paris Agreement should have been hot topics during the
three presidential debates. So why were they not? Both the Democrats and Republicans seemed to be more concerned with trying to make the
opposing candidate look as bad as possible. However, climate change is not something that should be labeled as a Democratic or Republican problem,
instead all political groups should be worried about this topic. Climate change can affect food production, water availability, wildlife and human health.
Also, weather conditions such as storms, tornadoes, and earthquakes can damage roads, railroads,

Presidential Debate
Al Gore and Governor George W. Bush are running for the Presidency. The two candidates are in Presidential Debate to allow the voters to get an
understanding of where they each stand on certain positions and policies. Bush and Gore have some similarities and differences on certain positions
and policies discussed in the Presidential Debates. Education is an issue discussed in the Presidential Debate. Bush and Gore both agree that there is
nothing more precious than educating a child. The two Presidential Candidates support the issue of spending $170 billion over 10 years for children in
public schools to achieve high standards. They each want to rebuild outdated buildings, modernize schools, and wiring ... Show more content on

For instance, Gore supports the current child tax credit of $500, but Bush supports doubling the child tax credit to $1,000. Bush pledges to veto any
income tax increase. Also, their proposals for the non–Social Security surplus differs. Bush proposes to use the non–Social Security surplus in the
following manner: $1.3 trillion tax cut; $475 billion in spending on domestic programs; and $265 billion in reserve. He would eliminate the national
debt by 2016. Gore proposes to use the $2.17 non–Social Security surplus in the following manner: $480 billion in targeted tax cuts; $360 billion to
shore up the Medicare program; $870 billion in spending on domestic programs; and $300 billion would be left in reserve. His proposal would
eliminate the national debt by 2012. Another policy that Bush and Gore agree mostly on is Health Care. The two Presidential Candidates both support
the children's health insurance program (CHIP).
Bush and Gore agree on allowing low–income parents to buy into CHIP. They each support the issue of using part of the federal budget surplus to
offer a voluntary prescription drug benefit for Medicare beneficiaries. Bush and Gore also support the Patients' Bill of Rights legislation that includes
the direct access to specialists; the right to use the nearest emergency room; choice of providers; and a patient's right to appeal a health

Psychology In Presidential Debates
This article sets out to examine the influence of psychology used by presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump during the TV
presidential debates. Persaud and Bruggen state that public perception influences votes, and that perception can be altered by strategies built on an
understanding of psychology. It references a recent study in "Electoral Studies" by Peter Schrott and David Lanoue called, 'The power and limitations
of televised presidential debates: Assessing the real impact of candidate performance on public opinion and vote choice.' This study went into depth on
twenty–six historical examples of behaviors by candidates in TV presidential debates influencing public perception, and subsequent wins or losses.
The study concludes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is of course because of the many different aspects of a candidacy that lead to a successful election, but perhaps the article could have gone more
in depth as to, say, the relationship between voter perception of candidates and candidates' eventual success or failure, or between voter perception of
candidates and their willingness to go out and vote. This is perhaps because of other influences on the activeness of voters, and more so because the
article seeks only to examine "success" of a presidential debate. This also raises the question of what the authors define as a success–whether it's the
definition given earlier in the study from Schrott and Lanoue or if it whether it leads to winning the election, it's not stated. The influence of language
and biases on voter perception of the debates is made clear,

First Presidential Controversy: The Second Presidential...
The second presidential debate was held at St. Louis, Missouri on a Sunday Evening, October 9th, 2016 at 9:00PM. The debate lasted until 10:30PM.
The debate involved presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Just like the First Presidential Debate, this debate mainly focused on
the candidates and their plans for the future. That night, there was a lot of opposition in opinion on both sides. It was a heated battle. Both Trump and
Clinton battled it out with facts, some of which were both very strong and very weak. In the beginning of the debate, both Trump and Clinton had a
fierce attitude. The candidates had brought up many past events. They debated against each other`s plans to create a better country. One of the main

Third Presidential Debate Analysis
I watched the third presidential debate on Wednesday, October 19, at 8 pm. Chris Wallace moderated the debate between the Democratic nominee
Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump. The purpose of the debate was to allow for both candidates to be compared side by side in
order to determine who would be a better candidate to become the president of the United States.
In general, the debate was not unlike any other presidential debate. The candidates did their best to avoid answering questions that made them look bad
by responding with an answer to a different question. When given a chance to respond, the opponent would present their own argument, which always
sounded like a rebuttal but never really addressed their opponent. Throughout

Vice Presidential Debate Essay
The Vice Presidential Debate took place at Longwood University located in Farmville, Virginia moderated by, Elaine Quijano. Senator Tim Kaine and
Governor Mike Pence both sat at a table with Quijano. The debate consisted of 9 segments, each 10 minutes in length and 2 minutes for each
candidate to respond. Topics discussed in this debate include questions about Donald Trump's temperament, the economy, Social Security, police and
race relations, nuclear weapons, abortion and religious faith. It was very surprising to see a young moderator, Elaine Quijano. She was the first digital
network anchor selected to be a moderator. She did a good job at being a moderator, not to mention having to be the first Asian American moderator.
When the debate was firing up with interruptions, she stepped in and said "Gentlemen, the people at home cannot understand either one of you when
you talk over each other." She was well paced, had asked essential, substantive questions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It's evident that this has been one of the most divided and controversial presidential elections starting from the primaries all the way to the first and
second presidential debates. Whether we agree with the candidate's political views and methods of approaching the American people, and regardless
of our personal opinion on the matter, it seems like both candidates have created an interest on this particular political event in the American people,
this is best described in the iconic words of Isoroku Yamamotto "They have awakened a sleeping giant". Whether it is for their popularity and
controversy in the media, as it has been shown in the recent debates, they have helped shine a spotlight on the political process and with it, they've
brought to the light an interesting group of voters, they've continued and some cases started a conversation on social and foreign issues, but more
interestingly, in some way, they've shown how the American people thinks.

One of the things that Hillary is criticized the most, as it was pointed out by Trump in the recent debates, is her inconsistency on issues such as trade,
foreign policy and even her perception on the Obama administration. Many individuals belief that this inconsistency could be reflected in her policy
making process. Another way in which Hillary influences the political process would be by promoting policy that is directly linked to the interests of
her many supporters as Trump pointed out in the second debate. In the other hand her experiences in foreign countries, and her experience in the

The Presidential Debates
The main goal of this article was to discover if the televised presidential debates increased the amount of knowledge of campaign issues amongst
uneducated voters. One of the downfalls of this campaign overall, was that it seemed too artificial and staged to some of the voters. It was during
this election, that many print media providers were called out for simply focusing on the "horse race" as opposed to the political issues at hand. In
hope to contradict this claim, evidence was "found that more than 75 network TV stories mentioned each of the 'big four' economic issues of
1988–taxes, trade, unemployment, and the state of the economy." (Drew & Weaver, 1991, pg. 28) The presidential Debates were also seen as evidence

educate and inform constituents on the issues they want to solve and the policies they want to make reality. Formerly a television event that many
Americans would watch in order to determine who they would cast their vote for come November 8th presidential debates have evolved into a comedy
event. If you look at the current candidates on the roster you see an insulting extremist, a robotic and cold politician, and a blustering socialist.

Watching the presidential primary debates has changed my perspective on the world and people as a whole. It has been thrilling and baffling to see
people take their candidate's side with such a strong passion. It seems that the country is split into two sides. Both crowds have the contradicting
mindsets and values. With each side having different opinions and reasons, it is hard not to see the differences and learn a thing or two from them.

I assumed that the people would be more unified share a greater passion for electing a perfect candidate together. Instead, some people want to
rebuild America and make it great by getting rid of public services, aid provided to the people, and individuals who help the nation. Some of the
reasonings behind the people's mindset are irregular. While some mindsets have a more appealing reason to why they stand for the values that are
brought by their chosen candidate, there are others who have irregular or confusing reasonings. I can understand why some may vote or support their
preferred candidate, but there are some people who I can't quite grasp their perspective on the situation. To understand the situation better, I had to open
my mind. Changing the way I saw the world and people's thoughts, helped me have a better understanding of people's reasons. I was able to

By far, the United states presidential debate is one of the most popular debates in America. The debates are extremely important for the citizens of the
United states because they help those in the audience as well as those watching from their homes decide who will be the country's next president for
the next four years of office. Not only does the debate reveal how the presidential candidates will solve their issues for the country, if elected, but they

Presidential Debate Pros And Cons
Presidential debates have been a very influential part of presidencies throughout history. They give voters an idea of what kind of leaders the
candidates are and how they respond to stressful situations. There have been many different kinds of presidential debates since they began to be an
important aspect of campaigning. After the parties have chosen their candidates, the debates will take place at a set time. In every election, it has
been a debate between the two main candidates, usually one from each of the most popular parties. They discuss and debate controversial topics back
and forth based on questions by certain people, or sometimes members of the audiences. Presidential debates have evolved in any ways, and have

The idea was started when Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas held a senatorial debate in 1858. There was no panel or moderator, and it just
consisted of the two candidates arguing the pros and cons of slavery. This debate is one of the main reasons campaigns consist of extremely
popular presidential debates. After the debate between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, there would not be a debate for 15 election years.
The speeches and campaigning done by the candidates was done separately, and was not publicized nearly as much as it would be in later years
with the advantages of technology. 1948 was a very important year for debates because of the very first radio broadcast. This event brought 40 to
80 million listeners closer to the debates than they had ever been. Years later in 1960, the first televised debate between Nixon and Kennedy created
a whole new campaign. After this occasion occurred, the presidential debates were expected to be a part of every election. They were extremely
popular and a very important part of the campaigning. During Nixon's time as president, he overrode a bill that repealed the Communications Act of
1934 that included Equal Time Provision. The bill required candidates to have equal time with the media. Candidates would take advantage of this, and
refuse to debate in order to keep votes away from their opponent. A refusal to debate was much better than giving the competitor the upper hand. In
1988, the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) became the only organization to be able to host debates (Friedman, 2012). Unofficial debates can
be held by news agencies and television networks, but do not determine anything concrete. These events throughout history made presidential debates

The use of twitter by both the viewers and the candidates are geared toward one particular goal: to try to change the mind of voters. By candidates
operating on Twitter they possess the ability to make instant rebuttals to something that another candidate has said without having to release an
official statement or waiting until the next debate. Also in an age of social media candidates and their campaigns believe that it is one of the most
effective ways to broadcast information and connect with voters. Twitter users also use this median as a way to make fun at a candidate's position or
simply try to convince others to change the way they have chosen to vote. Many twitter users from the Republican party took to the social media
website to bash the democratic candidates and their policy positions. One user slammed a comment made by Governor Martin O'Malley that the
greatest threat facing the United States was climate change. This made for a twitter field day with other users implying that the democratic candidates
do not take the threat of terrorism and ISIS seriously which disqualifies them from the presidency. These type of instances can have negative effects
for either party because of how quickly a retweet can make a statement viral and could end up severely hurting a campaign. However, this reaction did

The presidential debates have changed throughout the years. From my perspective debates do matter because the candidates debate to get chosen to

might wouldnt be a president nor voter.
The candidates debate to change the United States. This year's debaters

Presidential Debates
Making a decision is a very important part of life that every person, at one time or another, has to make. Options are always available when someone
has to make a decision. In choosing a President for our country, we have to look at our candidates and decide which ones beliefs can help the country
the most. We get to hear the President's opinions through the debates. This year, although we had numerous candidates, the only two that were allowed
to participate in the debates was Vice PresidentAl Gore and Texas Governor George Bush.
The first debate was held at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. There was no clear and obvious winner in this debate. The debate featured a

They did not see anything wrong with what Bill Clinton has done in the past eight years so they start denouncing him for the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
The Texas Governor also believed that Gore had had his chance for the past eight years but had not done anything he had promised. One of the most
important issues for the candidates and the voters is the way the way they control foreign policy. When asked if they would use force to remove
Slobodan Milosevic, both said they would not, but Bush said that he would ask Russia to mediate in the talks. This led Gore to point out that Russia
has a tendency to support Milosevic at times.
A poll was taken after a debate asking people whom they thought had won the debate. Forty–two percent of the people believed that Gore had won,
while thirty–nine percent believed it was Bush. Nineteen percent believed it was a tie.
While the second debate at Wake Forest University was the least exciting and was gone over very politely by both candidates, the third debate at
Washington University in St. Louis featured the most arguing between the two. Bush tried to illustrate himself as a leader who would reach across
party lines and bring the nation together. Bush also believed that, although, both of them could talk and make promises, he could actually get it done.
On the other hand, Gore tried to portray Bush as someone who would lend a helping hand to big, corporate companies. After feeling the pressure from

Argumentative Essay: The First Presidential Debate
I sat down on my couch on the crisp night of September, 26th, it was very much like the calm before the storm. My dad and I awaited for the first

witnessed them awkwardly meet in the middle of the stage, which I believe everyone in America could agree was just extremely cringeworthy. During

election. Each candidate probably won't have much success, and both are just absolutely lying about so many issues just gain votes. During this time
of realization, as I continued to watch this hockey game, Politics should be more like Hockey, I imagined Trump and Hillary dropping the gloves on
the ice and possibly this could resolve some issues. Sure they both have to sit 5 minutes in the sin bin, but I would say that would be a lot better than
whatever they did on that stage that night. My view about this election changed immensely, I came to the conclusion that politics are overrated and

The Role Of Television In Presidential Debates
The rise of popularity in presidential television debates leads one to the question of it having a positive and or negative impact on candidates
campaigns. Television allowed people to see the debate in a new perspective, visually, however it idolizes and highlights candidates to make them
seem as if they are celebrities, instead of focusing on their intellect and topics to improve the nation. Therefore one can see the impacts of television as
negative, for the media is downplaying the actual value of presidential campaigns and focusing on less important irrelevant entertaining topics.
Television is taking the serious main focus of presidential debates and devaluing it to minimize the whole picture as well as focus on unnecessary
entertaining matters, for a presidential debate actions such as this are disdainful. Instead of focusing on candidate's of intellect the media highlights
candidates of more appealing entertaining traits. The media encourages to "aim for the lowest common denominator"(source f) for if they were to

Presidential Debate Over Presidential Debates
With the 2016 election in full throttle, Kennedy and Nixon's presidential debates of 1960 are still very much a part of American democracy.
Televised presidential debates have become a backbone in an American election. Although these debates are now considered a norm in American
politics, this has not always the case. Even after the first time a presidential debate was held between presidential candidates from across the aisle, it
took another 16 years for another debate to occur. It is highly doubtful that either Nixon or Kennedy, much less anyone else of that time period,
would have been able to foresee the effects of their debate. The presidential debates between Kennedy and Nixon have shape American politics for
what seemed like the better but as more and more research is published, this claim is starting to fall apart. While presidential debates offer the public a
chance to compare and contrast the Republican and Democratic presidential candidate, they have an impact on viewers that is not always positive.
Rather, televised presidential debates impact voters across the aisle and throughout levels of political awareness. An in–depth look at the history of
televised presidential debates and their impact on viewers could answer the question of whether televised presidential debates should remain a central
part of the modern American democracy.

comments were of big controversy as they were bringing each other's secrets to the light, some of the issues that they tackled were gender, taxes, and
national security, inviting the people to vote for one of them this November. Trump claimed that Clinton prepared herself for the debate. While she
admitted it, she also said she was prepared to be president. Trump would defend his opinions and plans on lowering the taxes on the wealthy while
Clinton would defend herself because of the leaked emails. Clinton did a lot of publicity during the debate on why people should not trust Trump. One
of the most controversial comments of the night was when Clinton stated that Trump would verbally abuse women, making an example out of ex–Miss

The Second Presidential Debate Analysis
While using a variety of different appeals, "The Second Presidential Debate" argues that integrity is the most important quality of a president, and this
argument is shown throughout the debate through both the candidate's choice to undermine each other's character. Though it seems as if both
candidates use illogical arguments to persuade the audience, in all reality they use many logical fallacies and appeals to help make their argument
better, and their opponent's seem weaker. At the beginning of the presidential debate the opening question for the candidates is, "Do you think that you

Because both presidential hopefuls use the same strategy over and over, does it continue to still be affective on the audience. Well, looking at the way
that both Hillary and Trump had made many arguments based on their opinion of the audience, it goes to show that they don't hold the audience in the
highest respect; yet the audience would still voice their opinions on their candidate through their applause. Knowing that the American people like to
be entertained it is shown through both Hillary and Trumps actions that they would make somewhat illogical arguments to try and keep the audience on
their side. This strategy actually worked too. Obviously the somewhat "silly" arguments that were made actually made implications on the audience to
convince them to support a certain successor. To conclude, "The Second Presidential Debate" clearly shows that the next president should have

The Debate On The Circus Acts That Were Called The 1st...
After viewing the circus acts that were called the 1st presidential debate and the vice–presidential debate that aired earlier in the month, my
expectations for the 2nd debate were not too high. Unfortunately my even my low expectations were not met and I felt as though there was not a large
enough improvement during this debate to have made any difference from the first one. While we saw some improvement in terms of candidate
behavior, the rest of the debate was severely lacking in substance. Questions posed by the audience were shallow, then made even more so by the
follow up questions from the moderators. On the topic of moderators, there appears to be a continuing theme of their lack of effectiveness that has
carried throughout all of the debates including this one. Leading up to the 2nd debate we have seen the results of having two candidates with political
views on complete opposite poles and personalities to match. The events of the first debate can easily be described as throwing water into a pot of hot
oil and just watching it happen. Throughout the debate we had seen Donald Trump repeatedly interrupt and attempt to interject as Hillary Clinton was
speaking in an effort to defend himself. However this interruptions were more of a nuisance, especially due to most of them being composed of the

big role in the citizen's lives. Most Republican wants lower taxes in addition to less government spending on social programs such as healthcare, food
Stamps and education. The portions that I am looking at would be the part where Trump talks about building a border wall and also where he speak of

During his whole presentation, Trump have shown countless hand gestures while he is speaking. His hand gestures seem to go with the rhymes of
his listings or when he say things that seem to be important slowly. For example, one of the time would be him yellowing out "a fifty billion dollar,"
when talking about how the US would lose a large sum of money if a trade imbalance were to happen. His hand gesture here moves up and down,
making a point that the amount is large and important. In addition to his hand movements, Trump's head also turn several times, and his blinking seems
to be constant every seconds and endless at times. When he talks about how he is self–funding his blinks seem constant, however when he talks about
the Mexican leaders, his blinks seem endless. This shows that Trump might be sarcastic or lying when he say he respects the Mexican leaders. When
people say something that they do not believe is true, their actions begin to put more effort into "being normal" resulting in irregularity of too much
effort. Other than blinking endlessly at times, there are also times when Trump stops blinking. One of the times when Trump stop blinking is after he
finish talking about Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook) and his support on H1B. This demonstrations that Trump may be able to control his
blinking during his sessions since his eyes did not flicker. It gives the feels that he might be trying to distract himself or his audience from his

A consensus stemming from the media is that Secretary Clinton was definitely the winner of the debate, but the race for the presidency is hardly over.
Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post writes, "At times she came across as overly rehearsed and robotic... She was, unsurprisingly, very well prepared
– using a slew of facts and figures to not only make her positive case but also to slam Trump." Clinton had clearly done her homework and was
prepared with witty comebacks to Trump's usual feisty remarks, as well as, clear plans for our country which she masterfully weaved together to make
the most of her two–minute responses. He, on the other hand, did his best to bring up topics he is comfortable talking about like the 33,000 emails

According to Independent Journal Review's Director of Viral Media, Kyle Becker, Lester Holt seemed to be absent from a large majority of the debate
leaving the candidates to pettily bicker and waste valuable debate time. He did, however, decide to be a fact–checking moderator 50 minutes into the
debate. Holt did not let Trump get away with not "specifically" answering his questions and with answering his questions with statements that were not
true. He fact checked Donald Trump 4 times but while letting Hillary Clinton say whatever she liked without interruption." While this statement makes
Holt appear to look bias and unfair, Mrs. Clinton was 'fact checked' throughout the debate and was deemed 100% truthful during Monday evening's
debate which leaves little room for corrections and interruptions. Megan Garber, a staff writer for The Atlantic, says, "To do well, Holt would need to
ask good questions...to find a happy middle between fact–checking the candidates in real time and letting them... talk–to the public, and to each other.
[Not] interrupting the debaters, challenging their assertions, [or] 'Lauering'... were elements of the delicate balance Holt needed to strike... He did a
great job." Finding a perfect balance between fact–checking and allowing the candidates to do the fact–checking, being impartial, and asking good
questions is impossible because the media all want to see different things and you can't expect the man to please everyone. To conclude, I did not see
an overall consensus about Holt's performance, because journalists either applauded him or harshly criticized

Presidential Debate Another four years another presidential debate. Before I go on to the current debates let me state a few facts about past ones. The
Lincoln and Douglas debate was in important because it started Lincoln presidential career. The Debates lasted from August 21–– October 15. There
where seven of them, with two days to two weeks in between. Each debate lasted three hours; first candidate spoke for one hour; the second for one
and a half hours; the first replying for a half hour. Candidates alternated going first. The topics involved where primarily slavery and the Union. Other
important debates were the '48 and '57. They were the only debates before 1960; there were no presidential debates between 1960 and 1976. In... Show

want to. Bush wants more kids to learn how to read and have more teach–for–the–children type teachers. Bush only cares for the children. Gore on the
other hand agrees with only a couple of things that Bush stated. He strongly supports accountability; he also supports local control. Bush and Gore
agree on both. Gore thinks every teacher should be tested including in the subjects that they teach. He also thinks that 100,000 new teachers
should be recruited to reduce class size. The main reason for that is because a man gave him a letter from his daughter. The girl is the 36th student
in her class; the picture attached showed that there was no room for one desk so she had to stand. He also wants to make college tax deductible
(up to $10,000 a year). I believe that both of the candidates have very good points on education, they were to combine there ideas they would come up
with a very good education plan. I like college being tax deductible and I also like the 100,000 more teachers for to reduce class size.

Presidential Debate Analysis
1. The presidential campaign of 2016 is one that is highly debated, historical, and one that created quite an interesting debate. Watching it in a lecture
hall with people who I didn't know with views that were unknown to me consistently reminded me of class in ways of debate structure. Just like our
class, both sides were constantly doing a back and forth, but not incorporating a dialogue, each side would deliver a speech within time limitations,
involve some rebuttal and then continue onto the next subject. The points of information weren't really seen as points of information, but instead often
perceived as interruptions. In most cases it was Donald Trump speaking over Hillary Clinton, but there were instances of both. When Trump did it,...

I did find the constant change of subjects quite interesting because they ranged from economics to climate change to race to even broad questions like
will you accept the outcome of the election. They weren't focused on just one topic, it was widely ranged which was very different than our class
debate set–up, but at the same time they were at times, both able to answer the question they were asked, rebuttal a little, and then move on to the next
question. 2. I most likely would've watched the debate regardless, but watching the debate in an in–person audience altered my perspective in a way
that wouldn't have happened if I was sitting on my couch with friends. First off, I went to the viewing alone so instead of sitting and chattering
throughout the debate. I was in sense more focused on the diction the candidates where using which led to me focusing on certain rhetorical devices
we have previously discussed in class. One of the devices that were so apparent to me was the device of ethos, this debate was constantly using situated
ethos and the post–humanist take on ethos throughout. The

Television and the purpose of it has changed in a negative way throughout the years. At the beginning, we took advantage of being able to be a part of
the presidential elections and acquire the facts about what truly mattered during the debates. Lately we've started to look at what the screen is showing
us rather than concentrating on what it was actually telling us. We as people have begun to want to appoint our official leaders based on who looks
better and television has helped feed this desire for the worst. Technology has been changing progressively from the start. Everything about it ranging
from the speed, the design, the size has been replaced with a modernized and immaculate version. Computers, phones, and televisions all started ...

The first way they make this possible is to groom and primp their image. Theodore White "thought that Kennedy benefited because his image on
television was "crisp"; Nixon's–– light–colored suit, wrong makeup, bad posture–– was "fuzzed (Source C)." He is saying that Kennedy acknowledged
the fact that his appearance made a big difference in how the people looked at him and he made sure that he was up to par with his looks. Another
way they make their appearance look better in comparison is to draw attention away from themselves and attack their opponent's character. This
technique is referred to as ad hominem and it is one of the most common ones used in this year's presidential debates. A prime example of this is when
Donald Trump once said, "Unstable Hillary Clinton, lacks the judgment, temperament and moral character to lead this country –– and I believe that so
strongly," he then later continued with, "She's really pretty close to unhinged, and you've seen, you've seen it a couple times. The people in the
background know it, the people who know her know it and she's like an unbalanced person." In this claim he has completely left the topic of what
truly matters and has started to stray away from it in an attempt to make Hillary seem inferior. All of this is a battle of image over image. Louis
Menand wrote, "Our national politics has become a competition for images or between images, rather than between ideals (Source C)." This statement
just backs up the idea that we've started to focus on looks rather than

In this first presidential debate the speaker I chose to focus on presidential candidate Senator Hilary Clinton. This speech was given at Hofstra

The Presidential Debate On The American System Of...
A constructive national debate is something that is quite important to the functioning of the American system of democracy. A simple definition of
democracy offered by the Merriam–Webster dictionary is that democracy is "a form of government in which people choose leaders by voting"
(Merriam–Webster). Now, at a time of heightened awareness from many American people, the political debates in this country don't seem to be
providing them with good cogent arguments. Instead they are filled with fallacies and many falsehoods. In this essay I argue that the presidential
debate system is currently not living up to its potential, and I will focus specifically on Republican primary debate that took place at the Reagan
Library in Simi Valley, California. In doing so, I will argue that the main flaws in this cycle's presidential primary debates were the amount of fallacies
used, as structure used as well as provide some counter–arguments to my claims. In order to have a government that is run by people; specifically,
people that must choose a candidate to vote for, its seems fit that it would be important that there be adequate means of illustrating each candidate's
positions on all of the issues that the constituents care about. Presidential debates are the means of showcasing a candidates' policies to the nation and
at the same time they allow the citizens in the democratic society to make a more informed decision about their vote than they otherwise would have
without a debate.

Republican Presidential Debate Analysis
The Republican Presidential Debate was, as always, an intriguing experience for its viewers. America has found itself in the odd position of having
nine presidential candidates from the Republican Party. Leaving politics (mostly) aside, it became clear that most of these candidates rely on inspiring
and capitalizing on the fears of their voters. This conclusion is drawn from the fact that these candidates are poor seemingly poor communicators. They
are unfocused and unoriginal with their platforms. The only defining characteristics are their various levels of confidence, poise, and their body
movements. As previously mentioned, the candidates lacked focus. A common theme at the debate was their indirect responses. When asked a
question, the candidates would engage in a monologue criticizing the Democratic Party (popular targets were Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama). The
candidates frequently went over their allotted response time without offering a substantive response to questions asked of them. Marco Rubio was
especially guilty of this, as evidenced by moderators chiding him for being off topic. When asked of the country's financial situation, Rubio, Bush, and
Cruz fervently agreed that Clinton should be banned from the White House and the military needed to be rebuilt. However, there was never ... Show

Hillary Clinton. They then progressed to how the military needed to be rebuilt and which one loved the military more. Then they reached personal
attacks. While very little of this had anything to with the questions directed towards them, it did show that the party is united on some topics, despite
their unoriginality in finding common

1960 Presidential Debate
Discuss the political impact of television and the new "social media".
Political impact of television, In 1960 Presidential Debate between Republican Vice President Richard Nixon and Democratic Senator John F.
Kennedy was the first to be televised. "Television gave elected officials and candidates for office and unprecedented way to speak directly to millions,
face–to–face". The increasingly negative tone of ads and political commentary has driven many to abandon interest in politics. Television lets the
viewers see what is going on in a political race, debate, and the polls as it is happening, and the viewers will make their minds up by what they see and
hear. This is more expensive for the candidates, because they have to pay for air–time. The TV networks usually let you see what they want you to see,
during a broadcast, especially when they cut to a commercial often. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"An emerging market and communications network for nonprofits, small businesses, and political campaigns". Since most Americans have a

will get passed along and more viewers will share it, so the word will get out faster.

Lester Holt's View of the First Presidential Debate This first presidential debate was chaos! The two candidates were just screaming over one

composed for a small period of time while acting like actual adults running for president. Unfortunately, when the first question about the economy
was asked, Former Secretary Clinton decided to take a jab at Mr. Trump using a quote he had said about a potential real estate market crash in 2006.

Unfortunately, my facts did not impact him in any way and he replied that I was wrong. This made me furious because I was the one who actually
decided to do research on a controversial topic instead of opening my mouth and blurting out random gibberish. To continue, I had asked Trump of
his reputation for questioning President Obama's U.S. citizenship and his opinions on the topic. Even though he was supposed to be prepared to
be asked this question, since it was a popular topic, he still flubbed in his thoughts by blaming the controversy itself and an aide of Clinton. Finally,
he foolishly decided to depict himself as a seeker of the truth rather than a racist. Clinton decided to respond with a series of facts depicting how
racist Trump really is. For example, she recalled the event of 1973 of when Trump was sued by the Justice Department for the act of discrimination,
depicting his life as one submerged in racism. She concluded her observations by borrowing a quote from First Lady Obama, "When they go low, we
go high." To conclude, the highly anticipated first presidential felt less like an official debate and more like two children fighting, and I

gay marriage. Not many answers were proposed rather there were lots of snarky comments. Donald Trump has such a massive ego while he picked on

Presidential Debates Essay
Looking at the viewer rating of presidential debates in the election seasons can prove just how much people are interested in these debates. Voters
have good reason to do so because debating can show many qualities of a person. These qualities become very important when it comes to
presidential candidates because debates can show one's thoughts about policies, the ability to carry them out, and ability to settle negotiations.
Debating about policies shows whether one has made a judgment based on thorough thinking and deep knowledge. Being a 'good debater' usually
means that the argumentation one gives is sound and contains an analysis of the topic from various perspectives. Since the candidate needs to know
what he or she is talking about, they will have gone through long sessions of assessing the problem and building a stance on what they have
evaluated. The fact that debating requires critical thinking skills can be verified in a research paper that says, quote, "From a professional standpoint,
the debating process encourages an individual to consider multiple viewpoints and arrive at a judgement." A candidate who is good at debating about a

were published about how horrible a debater Donald Trump was. The consequences are clearly showing with reports of Trump's first negotiation with
the president of Mexico being a 'humiliation'. Through this example, it becomes clear that presidential candidates who are effective debaters will be

Presidential Election : Presidential Debates
In order to determine the best candidate to be our national leader, it is imperative that citizens watch the broadcasted presidential debates before casting
their ballots. These debates give each representative of the two most influential political parties, the Democrats and Republicans, time to demonstrate
their contrasting viewpoints, and otherwise allow the voter to understand each candidate's personality. During our psychology class this semester, we
were privileged to write essays on the three presidential debates between Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, and Republican nominee, Donald
Trump. In order to succeed in this task, it was imperative that we incorporate psychology terms in conjunction with the candidates; only now can we
reveal our informed opinions about the results of this 2016 Presidential Election. During the three presidential debates, I tried to watch Hillary Clinton
unbiased, as I admittedly wanted her to become our president. Overall, I found Clinton to be mature, and to be overwhelmingly habituated to Trump's
condescending comments. Despite Trump's disrespectful remarks regarding women and other minorities, Clinton was calm, and simply spoke to the
viewers regarding his rhetoric. Her peaceful demeanor demonstrated habituation in that, although Trump can become very offensive, she chose to rise
above the trying stimulus he displayed, and ultimately appeared to be the better candidate for presidential office. In response to audience phobias

Perception's Configuration of Reality: 45th Presidential Debate Jay Van Bavel's 2016 article addresses an important and relevant issue: voters' deeply
divided perceptions of presidential candidates. According to Bavel, approximately 70 million viewers tuned in to watch the final presidential debate on
October 19, 2016. In theory, one would be valid in assuming that while processing such an event, everyone should be experiencing the same reality–all
are watching the same debate, hearing the same words said by the same people. Strangely, however, this is not the case: in reality, Republicans and
Democrats concluded the debates with drastically separate conclusions on the candidates. According to a CNN poll referenced to within Bavel's
article, Hillary Clinton won the first debate, with 67% compared to Donald Trump's 27%. However, a further examination of these statistics reveals an
obvious divergence between the democratic and republican parties. According to democrats, Clinton won (89% to 5%); according to republicans,
Trump won (54% to 28%). Why is there such a great divide when both parties were presented with the exact same information? People do not see the
world objectively–without the influence of personal biases. Instead, people reinforce the goals and values of the partisan group they identify with,
allowing the party's views to color their perceptions of identical information (Bavel). According to a paper mentioned in the article, written by Bavel
and his research

First Presidential Debates

  • 1. First Presidential Debates The participants of the first presidential debate are; Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The debate was 90 minutes long, and divided into 6 segments of 15 minutes each one. The three main topics of the debate were; Achieving prosperity, American's direction, and Securing America. Achieving prosperity: Hillary Clinton stated: To build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. To raise the national minimum wage and also guarantee, finally, equal pay for women's work. To have the wealthy pay their fair share and close the corporate loopholes. To have a tax system that rewards work and not just financial transactions. Donald Trump stated: People are using the U.S as a piggy bank to rebuild their economies. Stop our ... Every candidate has different proposals for the success of the country, and people have to judge on each of the candidate's proposals. In my opinion, the debate and the questions were well structured; however, both of the candidates did not focusing on answering the questions correctly, more than half of the debate was spend on accusing each other about past things, and blaming each other for bad decisions in their past. Instead they should be focusing in explaining their goals for the country. I believe that the first debate did not accomplish its goals. The public was more confused after listening to each other. Both of them have strong personalities with good and bad things about them. I believe that the candidates should focus more on their leadership's skills, and speeches with strong objectives that shows why they are the best candidate to be the future president of the United ... • 2. The Debate Over Presidential Debates What topics are labeled important enough to be talked about during presidential debates? Topics such as terrorism and national security; the economy; jobs and employment; and the Affordable Care Act and Healthcare all managed to be the center of attention during all debates. What topics were almost entirely ignored? Topics such as gun policy; social issues like LGBT rights and abortion; and the environment andclimate change were put to the side to instead talk about Hillary Clinton's email scandal or the sexual assault charges brought up against Donald Trump. While terrorism and national security; the economy; jobs and employment; and the Affordable Care Act and Healthcare are all very important topics, but one topic that was ignored and should have been at the forefront of the debate was climate change. Issues like renewable energy, hydraulic fracking, anthropogenic greenhouse gases, and the Paris Agreement should have been hot topics during the three presidential debates. So why were they not? Both the Democrats and Republicans seemed to be more concerned with trying to make the opposing candidate look as bad as possible. However, climate change is not something that should be labeled as a Democratic or Republican problem, instead all political groups should be worried about this topic. Climate change can affect food production, water availability, wildlife and human health. Also, weather conditions such as storms, tornadoes, and earthquakes can damage roads, railroads, ... • 3. Presidential Debate Essay Presidential Debate Al Gore and Governor George W. Bush are running for the Presidency. The two candidates are in Presidential Debate to allow the voters to get an understanding of where they each stand on certain positions and policies. Bush and Gore have some similarities and differences on certain positions and policies discussed in the Presidential Debates. Education is an issue discussed in the Presidential Debate. Bush and Gore both agree that there is nothing more precious than educating a child. The two Presidential Candidates support the issue of spending $170 billion over 10 years for children in public schools to achieve high standards. They each want to rebuild outdated buildings, modernize schools, and wiring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Gore supports the current child tax credit of $500, but Bush supports doubling the child tax credit to $1,000. Bush pledges to veto any income tax increase. Also, their proposals for the non–Social Security surplus differs. Bush proposes to use the non–Social Security surplus in the following manner: $1.3 trillion tax cut; $475 billion in spending on domestic programs; and $265 billion in reserve. He would eliminate the national debt by 2016. Gore proposes to use the $2.17 non–Social Security surplus in the following manner: $480 billion in targeted tax cuts; $360 billion to shore up the Medicare program; $870 billion in spending on domestic programs; and $300 billion would be left in reserve. His proposal would eliminate the national debt by 2012. Another policy that Bush and Gore agree mostly on is Health Care. The two Presidential Candidates both support the children's health insurance program (CHIP). Bush and Gore agree on allowing low–income parents to buy into CHIP. They each support the issue of using part of the federal budget surplus to offer a voluntary prescription drug benefit for Medicare beneficiaries. Bush and Gore also support the Patients' Bill of Rights legislation that includes the direct access to specialists; the right to use the nearest emergency room; choice of providers; and a patient's right to appeal a health ... • 4. Psychology In Presidential Debates This article sets out to examine the influence of psychology used by presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump during the TV presidential debates. Persaud and Bruggen state that public perception influences votes, and that perception can be altered by strategies built on an understanding of psychology. It references a recent study in "Electoral Studies" by Peter Schrott and David Lanoue called, 'The power and limitations of televised presidential debates: Assessing the real impact of candidate performance on public opinion and vote choice.' This study went into depth on twenty–six historical examples of behaviors by candidates in TV presidential debates influencing public perception, and subsequent wins or losses. The study concludes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is of course because of the many different aspects of a candidacy that lead to a successful election, but perhaps the article could have gone more in depth as to, say, the relationship between voter perception of candidates and candidates' eventual success or failure, or between voter perception of candidates and their willingness to go out and vote. This is perhaps because of other influences on the activeness of voters, and more so because the article seeks only to examine "success" of a presidential debate. This also raises the question of what the authors define as a success–whether it's the definition given earlier in the study from Schrott and Lanoue or if it whether it leads to winning the election, it's not stated. The influence of language and biases on voter perception of the debates is made clear, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The debate lasted until 10:30PM. The debate involved presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Just like the First Presidential Debate, this debate mainly focused on the candidates and their plans for the future. That night, there was a lot of opposition in opinion on both sides. It was a heated battle. Both Trump and Clinton battled it out with facts, some of which were both very strong and very weak. Chris Wallace moderated the debate between the Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump. The purpose of the debate was to allow for both candidates to be compared side by side in order to determine who would be a better candidate to become the president of the United States. In general, the debate was not unlike any other presidential debate. The candidates did their best to avoid answering questions that made them look bad by responding with an answer to a different question. Senator Tim Kaine and Governor Mike Pence both sat at a table with Quijano. The debate consisted of 9 segments, each 10 minutes in length and 2 minutes for each candidate to respond. Topics discussed in this debate include questions about Donald Trump's temperament, the economy, Social Security, police and race relations, nuclear weapons, abortion and religious faith. It was very surprising to see a young moderator, Elaine Quijano. She was the first digital network anchor selected to be a moderator. She did a good job at being a moderator, not to mention having to be the first Asian American moderator. • 8. Essay On Presidential Debates It's evident that this has been one of the most divided and controversial presidential elections starting from the primaries all the way to the first and second presidential debates. Whether we agree with the candidate's political views and methods of approaching the American people, and regardless of our personal opinion on the matter, it seems like both candidates have created an interest on this particular political event in the American people, this is best described in the iconic words of Isoroku Yamamotto "They have awakened a sleeping giant". Whether it is for their popularity and controversy in the media, as it has been shown in the recent debates, they have helped shine a spotlight on the political process and with it, they've brought to the light an interesting group of voters, they've continued and some cases started a conversation on social and foreign issues, but more interestingly, in some way, they've shown how the American people thinks. One of the downfalls of this campaign overall, was that it seemed too artificial and staged to some of the voters. It was during this election, that many print media providers were called out for simply focusing on the "horse race" as opposed to the political issues at hand. In hope to contradict this claim, evidence was "found that more than 75 network TV stories mentioned each of the 'big four' economic issues of 1988–taxes, trade, unemployment, and the state of the economy." Watching the presidential primary debates has changed my perspective on the world and people as a whole. • 14. Presidential Debate Pros And Cons Presidential debates have been a very influential part of presidencies throughout history. They give voters an idea of what kind of leaders the candidates are and how they respond to stressful situations. There have been many different kinds of presidential debates since they began to be an important aspect of campaigning. After the parties have chosen their candidates, the debates will take place at a set time. In every election, it has been a debate between the two main candidates, usually one from each of the most popular parties. The idea was started when Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas held a senatorial debate in 1858. There was no panel or moderator, and it just consisted of the two candidates arguing the pros and cons of slavery. This debate is one of the main reasons campaigns consist of extremely popular presidential debates. After the debate between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, there would not be a debate for 15 election years. The speeches and campaigning done by the candidates was done separately, and was not publicized nearly as much as it would be in later years with the advantages of technology. 1948 was a very important year for debates because of the very first radio broadcast. This event brought 40 to 80 million listeners closer to the debates than they had ever been. Years later in 1960, the first televised debate between Nixon and Kennedy created a whole new campaign. After this occasion occurred, the presidential debates were expected to be a part of every election. They were extremely popular and a very important part of the campaigning. During Nixon's time as president, he overrode a bill that repealed the Communications Act of 1934 that included Equal Time Provision. The bill required candidates to have equal time with the media. Candidates would take advantage of this, and refuse to debate in order to keep votes away from their opponent. A refusal to debate was much better than giving the competitor the upper hand. In 1988, the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) became the only organization to be able to host debates (Friedman, 2012). Unofficial debates can be held by news agencies and television networks, but do not determine anything concrete. These events throughout history made presidential debates what they are ... Democratic Presidential Debate The race for the White House is a long and tedious process that is mobbed by campaigns events and stump speeches, but more importantly candidates are givens the opportunity to contrast their ideas with other candidates in televised debates. On January 17, 2016, I tuned into the Democratic Presidential Debate that was hosted by NBC News in Charleston, SC and moderated by Lester Holt. This debate included all three Presidential contenders: Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O'Malley. All candidates made reference to Rev. The use of twitter by both the viewers and the candidates are geared toward one particular goal: to try to change the mind of voters. By candidates operating on Twitter they possess the ability to make instant rebuttals to something that another candidate has said without having to release an official statement or waiting until the next debate. Also in an age of social media candidates and their campaigns believe that it is one of the most effective ways to broadcast information and connect with voters. Twitter users also use this median as a way to make fun at a candidate's position or simply try to convince others to change the way they have chosen to vote. Many twitter users from the Republican party took to the social media website to bash the democratic candidates and their policy positions. One user slammed a comment made by Governor Martin O'Malley that the greatest threat facing the United States was climate change. This made for a twitter field day with other users implying that the democratic candidates do not take the threat of terrorism and ISIS seriously which disqualifies them from the presidency. • 18. Essay on Presidential Debates Presidential Debates Making a decision is a very important part of life that every person, at one time or another, has to make. Options are always available when someone has to make a decision. In choosing a President for our country, we have to look at our candidates and decide which ones beliefs can help the country the most. We get to hear the President's opinions through the debates. This year, although we had numerous candidates, the only two that were allowed to participate in the debates was Vice PresidentAl Gore and Texas Governor George Bush. The first debate was held at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. There was no clear and obvious winner in this debate. The debate featured a lot of bickering by both candidates ... The Texas Governor also believed that Gore had had his chance for the past eight years but had not done anything he had promised. One of the most important issues for the candidates and the voters is the way the way they control foreign policy. When asked if they would use force to remove Slobodan Milosevic, both said they would not, but Bush said that he would ask Russia to mediate in the talks. This led Gore to point out that Russia has a tendency to support Milosevic at times. A poll was taken after a debate asking people whom they thought had won the debate. Forty–two percent of the people believed that Gore had won, while thirty–nine percent believed it was Bush. Nineteen percent believed it was a tie. While the second debate at Wake Forest University was the least exciting and was gone over very politely by both candidates, the third debate at Washington University in St. Louis featured the most arguing between the two. Bush tried to illustrate himself as a leader who would reach across party lines and bring the nation together. My dad and I awaited for the first Presidential debate to begin. We flipped through channels to decipher which channel to view the debate on, and were eventually redirected to Fox News. Genuine American man Donald Trump entered the stage, meanwhile as did Hillary Clinton, with that trademarked fake smile of hers. I witnessed them awkwardly meet in the middle of the stage, which I believe everyone in America could agree was just extremely cringeworthy. During this greeting, my Dad uttered to me "Wow, I hate that women" as I replied "I know, Trump is about to roast her". The debate started, both candidates explained policies, and seemed ... This is when I came to the realization that politics are really stupid, and I shouldn't have cared this much to begin with. The United States isn't working with much, in this upcoming election. Each candidate probably won't have much success, and both are just absolutely lying about so many issues just gain votes. During this time of realization, as I continued to watch this hockey game, Politics should be more like Hockey, I imagined Trump and Hillary dropping the gloves on the ice and possibly this could resolve some issues. Sure they both have to sit 5 minutes in the sin bin, but I would say that would be a lot better than whatever they did on that stage that night. My view about this election changed immensely, I came to the conclusion that politics are overrated and very devious. America needs change, none of the candidates seem to be the best option, but come November 8th, I will most likely still be voting for Donald Trump, just not with the same enthusiasm as I had ... • 20. The Role Of Television In Presidential Debates The rise of popularity in presidential television debates leads one to the question of it having a positive and or negative impact on candidates campaigns. Television allowed people to see the debate in a new perspective, visually, however it idolizes and highlights candidates to make them seem as if they are celebrities, instead of focusing on their intellect and topics to improve the nation. Therefore one can see the impacts of television as negative, for the media is downplaying the actual value of presidential campaigns and focusing on less important irrelevant entertaining topics. Television is taking the serious main focus of presidential debates and devaluing it to minimize the whole picture as well as focus on unnecessary entertaining matters, for a presidential debate actions such as this are disdainful. • 21. Presidential Debate Over Presidential Debates With the 2016 election in full throttle, Kennedy and Nixon's presidential debates of 1960 are still very much a part of American democracy. Televised presidential debates have become a backbone in an American election. Although these debates are now considered a norm in American politics, this has not always the case. Even after the first time a presidential debate was held between presidential candidates from across the aisle, it took another 16 years for another debate to occur. It is highly doubtful that either Nixon or Kennedy, much less anyone else of that time period, would have been able to foresee the effects of their debate. The presidential debates between Kennedy and Nixon have shape American politics for what seemed like the better but as more and more research is published, this claim is starting to fall apart. While presidential debates offer the public a chance to compare and contrast the Republican and Democratic presidential candidate, they have an impact on viewers that is not always positive. Rather, televised presidential debates impact voters across the aisle and throughout levels of political awareness. An in–depth look at the history of televised presidential debates and their impact on viewers could answer the question of whether televised presidential debates should remain a central part of the modern American democracy. Clinton and Trump's comments were of big controversy as they were bringing each other's secrets to the light, some of the issues that they tackled were gender, taxes, and national security, inviting the people to vote for one of them this November. Trump claimed that Clinton prepared herself for the debate. While she admitted it, she also said she was prepared to be president. Trump would defend his opinions and plans on lowering the taxes on the wealthy while Clinton would defend herself because of the leaked emails. Clinton did a lot of publicity during the debate on why people should not trust Trump. One of the most controversial comments of the night was when Clinton stated that Trump would verbally abuse women, making an example out of ex–Miss Universe Alicia Machado. Knowing that the American people like to be entertained it is shown through both Hillary and Trumps actions that they would make somewhat illogical arguments to try and keep the audience on their side. After viewing the circus acts that were called the 1st presidential debate and the vice–presidential debate that aired earlier in the month, my expectations for the 2nd debate were not too high. Unfortunately my even my low expectations were not met and I felt as though there was not a large enough improvement during this debate to have made any difference from the first one. While we saw some improvement in terms of candidate behavior, the rest of the debate was severely lacking in substance. Questions posed by the audience were shallow, then made even more so by the follow up questions from the moderators. On the topic of moderators, there appears to be a continuing theme of their lack of effectiveness that has carried throughout all of the debates including this one. Leading up to the 2nd debate we have seen the results of having two candidates with political views on complete opposite poles and personalities to match. The events of the first debate can easily be described as throwing water into a pot of hot oil and just watching it happen. Throughout the debate we had seen Donald Trump repeatedly interrupt and attempt to interject as Hillary Clinton was speaking in an effort to defend himself. Holt did not let Trump get away with not "specifically" answering his questions and with answering his questions with statements that were not true. He fact checked Donald Trump 4 times but while letting Hillary Clinton say whatever she liked without interruption." While this statement makes Holt appear to look bias and unfair, Mrs. Clinton was 'fact checked' throughout the debate and was deemed 100% truthful during Monday evening's debate which leaves little room for corrections and interruptions. We as people have begun to want to appoint our official leaders based on who looks better and television has helped feed this desire for the worst. He is saying that Kennedy acknowledged the fact that his appearance made a big difference in how the people looked at him and he made sure that he was up to par with his looks. Another way they make their appearance look better in comparison is to draw attention away from themselves and attack their opponent's character. This technique is referred to as ad hominem and it is one of the most common ones used in this year's presidential debates. A prime example of this is when Donald Trump once said, "Unstable Hillary Clinton, lacks the judgment, temperament and moral character to lead this country –– and I believe that so strongly," he then later continued with, "She's really pretty close to unhinged, and you've seen, you've seen it a couple times. The people in the background know it, the people who know her know it and she's like an unbalanced person." In this claim he has completely left the topic of what truly matters and has started to stray away from it in an attempt to make Hillary seem inferior. All of this is a battle of image over image. • 31. The Presidential Debate On The American System Of... A constructive national debate is something that is quite important to the functioning of the American system of democracy. A simple definition of democracy offered by the Merriam–Webster dictionary is that democracy is "a form of government in which people choose leaders by voting" (Merriam–Webster). Now, at a time of heightened awareness from many American people, the political debates in this country don't seem to be providing them with good cogent arguments. Instead they are filled with fallacies and many falsehoods. In this essay I argue that the presidential debate system is currently not living up to its potential, and I will focus specifically on Republican primary debate that took place at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California. In doing so, I will argue that the main flaws in this cycle's presidential primary debates were the amount of fallacies used, as structure used as well as provide some counter–arguments to my claims. In order to have a government that is run by people; specifically, people that must choose a candidate to vote for, its seems fit that it would be important that there be adequate means of illustrating each candidate's positions on all of the issues that the constituents care about. A common theme at the debate was their indirect responses. When asked a question, the candidates would engage in a monologue criticizing the Democratic Party (popular targets were Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama). The candidates frequently went over their allotted response time without offering a substantive response to questions asked of them. Voters have good reason to do so because debating can show many qualities of a person. These qualities become very important when it comes to presidential candidates because debates can show one's thoughts about policies, the ability to carry them out, and ability to settle negotiations. Debating about policies shows whether one has made a judgment based on thorough thinking and deep knowledge. Being a 'good debater' usually means that the argumentation one gives is sound and contains an analysis of the topic from various perspectives. Since the candidate needs to know what he or she is talking about, they will have gone through long sessions of assessing the problem and building a stance on what they have evaluated. When one of the candidates would say a statement for which the crowd would applause, other candidates would try and straightaway compliment their opponent and add own views to the same issue. The fight for the audience was too noticeable and it and it seemed that the candidates are willing to sacrifice their own principles for the joyful voices of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Presidential Election : Presidential Debates In order to determine the best candidate to be our national leader, it is imperative that citizens watch the broadcasted presidential debates before casting their ballots. These debates give each representative of the two most influential political parties, the Democrats and Republicans, time to demonstrate their contrasting viewpoints, and otherwise allow the voter to understand each candidate's personality. During our psychology class this semester, we were privileged to write essays on the three presidential debates between Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, and Republican nominee, Donald Trump. In order to succeed in this task, it was imperative that we incorporate psychology terms in conjunction with the candidates; only now can we reveal our informed opinions about the results of this 2016 Presidential Election. During the three presidential debates, I tried to watch Hillary Clinton unbiased, as I admittedly wanted her to become our president. Overall, I found Clinton to be mature, and to be overwhelmingly habituated to Trump's condescending comments. Despite Trump's disrespectful remarks regarding women and other minorities, Clinton was calm, and simply spoke to the viewers regarding his rhetoric. Perception's Configuration of Reality: 45th Presidential Debate Jay Van Bavel's 2016 article addresses an important and relevant issue: voters' deeply divided perceptions of presidential candidates. According to Bavel, approximately 70 million viewers tuned in to watch the final presidential debate on October 19, 2016. In theory, one would be valid in assuming that while processing such an event, everyone should be experiencing the same reality–all are watching the same debate, hearing the same words said by the same people. Strangely, however, this is not the case: in reality, Republicans and Democrats concluded the debates with drastically separate conclusions on the candidates. According to a CNN poll referenced to within Bavel's article, Hillary Clinton won the first debate, with 67% compared to Donald Trump's 27%. However, a further examination of these statistics reveals an obvious divergence between the democratic and republican parties. According to democrats, Clinton won (89% to 5%); according to republicans, Trump won (54% to 28%). Why is there such a great divide when both parties were presented with the exact same information? People do not see the world objectively–without the influence of personal biases. Instead, people reinforce the goals and values of the partisan group they identify with, allowing the party's views to color their perceptions of identical information (Bavel). According to a paper mentioned in the article, written by Bavel and his research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
