3. I love listening to music. I can feel the beat whenever I heard any music. Music is
the best medicine for me to enjoy my life. Easier to say , music is my life. Therefore, i
will not miss out musical movies too. In my opinion, musical film is a film genre in
which songs sung by the character are interwoven into the narrative, sometimes
accompanied by dancing. Musical film is a motion picture which consists a plot
integrating musical numbers. The Sound Of Music is one of my most beloved movie
musicals of all time , had making all the makings of a successful film. Another film
example is Singin in the rain , the finest musical ever created. Even though this two
films bear some minor similarities, the differences between ‘The Sound of Music’
and ‘Singin in the rain’ are remarkable.
First and foremost,’the Sound Of Music’ is a family story while ‘Singin in the rain is
a love story. As we can see, the film’s characters, such as Maria and Captain are
individuals with credible personal and political struggles. Both of them are also
externally challenged and internally troubled. The Sound Of Music is a movie that
reminds every audience that all children need their mother and their mother’s love.
For example, a young woman in this film who leaves Austrian convent to become a
governess to seven children of a naval officer widower and finally become the seven
children’s stepmother .Audience can feel a lot of love , not just from mother, they
also can feel the love between a father to his children and a stepmother to the
children. The unforgettable scene in this film is when the whole family are taking
part a competition which tells a harmony and unity between family is very
important .While in ‘ Singin in the rain’ , the storyline is totally opposite to ‘The
sound Of music. Singin in the Rain is about a classic Hollywood lifestyle. Don is a
fantastic singer, actor and dancer. The press and tabloids want Lina and DON to be
romantically involved, but Don does not see her that way. But the other hand , Lina
think that they are the perfect match. The director decides to have lina lip sync to
Kathy because Lina has no singing ability. Ironically, Don finds Kathy enchantingly
gorgeous and they start to fall in love.
Moreover, the main characters of this two film prove that these two films are
totally opposite. Audience can easily find out Maria personality from a song ,’how Do
Solve Problem Like Maria’. Maria is studying to become a nun, but her willful ways
does not go over too well at the convent. She been chased out because she always
late for everything. She is an unpredictable troublemaker. Everyone in the convent
has no idea to solve the problem she brings. Maria also a clown , she brings laughter
to everyone. Maria is also caring, especially to the seven children. She makes them
have a happy and unforgettable childhood, instead of being whistled by Captain and
treated as animals. In the other side, Don in ‘ Singin’ in the rain’ is a popular silent
film star with humble roots as singer, dancer and stuntman. Don tells the gathered
crowd an exaggerated version of his life story including his motto which is “Dignity.
Always dignity”. His motto shows that his journey taking on a wide range of menial
and humiliating roles on stage. Don also are talented and brilliant. He can quickly
solve a problem when the Dueling Cavalier’s test screening is a disaster and the
actor’s speaking is barely audible.

4. In addition, the characters performing the shows in the films make a clear
differences between those 2 films. In the movie of The Sound Of music, the shows
are performed by a group of children and their father with Maria which named as
the von Trapp family. They can easily use daily conversation to compose a song.
However they need a guitar to sing along. While in the movie of ‘Singin in the Rain’,
the shows are performed by singers, dancer, stuntman and so on. Their music was
old-school musical in its sophisticated deployment of the musical form rather than
merely stringing its songs together by means of a play-within-a-play.
Last but not least, the setting in these two movies are not the same. The Sound of
Music is casted in Salzburg, Austria during World War II period. Their clothes are
very traditional type. It is authentically breathtaking. When Maria sing on the
mountain with the children, it gives a feeling of relaxation and freedom. While
‘singin in the rain’ is casted in Hollywood,USA. Their clothes are traditional type too
but their singing and dances gives a lot of joy to the audience even though there are
some conflict inside it.
As a conclusion, musical movies are enjoyable and relaxing movies,no matter
when it was casted. I love watching musical movies. In the same time , I will also
sing along with them if I know the lyrics. Thus, musical movies give feeling of
relaxation and peaceful , sometimes even breathtaking. I hope musical movies
nowadays can be more produce as humanity need to give hope ,happiness and
harmony for those who need it.
