Argumentative Essay On Affordable Higher Education
Affordable higher education has been a focal point of discussion across the United States in recent years. Last April, Governor Andrew Cuomo
spearheaded the implementation of the New York State scholarship program Excelsior. The program is designed to increase the access and ability of
NY's low–income students to obtain a college education. Scholarship applicants must have an annual household income less than $100,000 as of their
2017 fall semester to qualify for a tuition free education. This level of household income will increase to $110,000 in Fall of 2018 and to $125,000 in
2019. Last year 22,000 students were awarded the scholarship.
Unfortunately drawbacks of the scholarship have revealed themselves since its creation. For instance an applicant cannot qualify if they're not a full time
student, have any gap in their education or will not graduate in four years. An individual awarded the scholarship cannot work outside New York State
after graduation or lose their scholarship and be forced to pay back tuition in the form of a loan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
as of 2015. If these numbers were to hold true in New York among the 22,000 students accepted into the program last fall 9,020 would fail to meet
the requirements. Of those 12,980 who would be on track to graduate in four years, any drawback could result in Excelsior deferring to a loan for
students whose families likely wouldn't have been able to send them to college without Excelsior in the first

programs. They have a great athletic training program. If, joining clubs aren't your thing but you want to make more friends they have many traditions
and involvement fairs, that anyone could go to. These clubs and events allow you to meet people that are interested in the same topics and hobbies as
you are, and could lead to building great friendships.
I would consider Stony Brook University as a definite possibility. Its close enough where I could often visit, some of my family even lives as close as
20 minutes away. They have a great price on their tuition fee for New York state residents and they have a variety of majors to choose from.
In conclusion Stony Brook University is a great university for any type of major. They have an amazing student atmosphere where you could make
new friends, while studying what you are interested in. People could get a great education for a low price, if you're a New York state

Clery Act at Work Rape is the most common violent crime on American college campuses today. (Sampson, 2003.) Statistics from the Rape, Abuse,

times greater for a female college student than for any other age group" (Burnett, 2009). In September of 2013, I was drugged and sexually assaulted

Penn State Pride Essay
Where's the Penn State Pride?By Sahib KaurDear Executive Board of Penn State,I once was a prospective student who was considering applying for
Penn State, among various other universities. When doing my college research, the first thing that I did was look up the college websites. And as most
other students would believe, the website is the main source for discerning the institution's credibility and status. Unfortunately, I have to say, that Penn
State's website does not do the college justice. With no visual ascetics, no organized structure, and no evidence of pride, the Penn State website is at
best, mediocre. When opening up to the page, the reader is fiercely exposed to a vast expanse of a bright blue hue. While I understand that blue ... Show

"just there". By randomly placing the video on the page, the importance of it is diminished. Had the video been placed in a designated spot with a
proper heading and caption to explainwhat it means, the video would make a much greater impact on the viewer. Also, while researching other college
websites, I have noticed that most of them dedicate quite a large portion of the site to the college news. For example, if you look at Tennessee State
University, the bottom half of the college website is divided into two columns, one for upcoming events, and another column for recent developments in
the college. A prospectivestudent would look at the page and would feel that students in college are very active. In comparison, Penn State has allotted
a tiny corner on the bottom left for news. It is sad to think that Pennsylvania StateUniversity, which has over ten campuses, does not have the pride to
display all the events that go on in the campuses. As someone who cares for the well–being of Penn State, I feel that having more to show would truly
represent what Penn State is: An active campus with students who actually care.Furthermore, it is of utmost significance that a website portray the
"pride and glory" of the university. For a majority of prospective students, a visit to a campus is often not possible, thereby making it difficult to discern
the true glory of the campus. As a result, the college website becomes the main portal through which

The Effect Of Sexual Assault On College Campuses
Introduction
College is where young women and men beginning one of the most biggest and exciting adventures. The students typically move out and begin to
experience adulthood for the first time and often the first time one can begin to make their own decisions. This also a very stressful times for students
as they must deal with the stress of their school work, internships, living on their own, and in some cases deal with the effects of sexual assault. Sexual
assault on college campuses has been a problem for many years; however, in the past several years, this issue has come to light. In this paper I will

The likelihood of universities doing this is small because a university does not want to single themselves out for their problems of sexual assault,
even though it is a problem for nearly all college campuses. Colleges are also hesitant to admit there is a problem in fear of losing perspective
students and losing money from donors. College must become safe places where victims feel they are able to report their assault and be protected
while justice is served. When a student reports a sexual assault the school must take the report seriously. Not taking the assault seriously, could lead to
more sexual assaults on campus from the same assaulter. According to Saul, of the New York Times, "a study of 1,642 men at two different colleges
was published in JAMA Pediatrics and found that while a larger number of men admitted to behaviors that constituted rape, a smaller percentage of
them, closer to 25 percent, were repeat offenders" (Saul). In the case of one of Ms. Weckhorst's abuser, he went on to rape another student in
October of 2015. Not punishing the assaulter only leads to more sexual assaults. Though many colleges have been outspoken about the problem of
sexual assault, though their actions typically do not support their words, they have begun to discusses ways to prevent sexual assault, such as
programs against sexual violence. According to Katherine Silbaugh her article, REACTIVE TO PROACTIVE: TITLE IX'S UNREALIZED
CAPACITY TO PREVENT CAMPUS SEXUAL ASSAULT, "Only two programs have rigorous evidence of effectiveness for preventing sexual
violence: Safe Dates and the building–level intervention of Shifting Boundaries. Both were developed with middle/high school students but may
provide useful models for the development of college prevention strategies" (1069). Programs like these are often offered at freshman

The Many Faces of Freedom? Essay
The Many Face of Freedom?
Freedom is a concept that people are often willing to die for and it is the cause of much fighting. However, few people ever claim to dislike
freedom. This raises an interesting question: how can people fight over what is generally considered to be a positive idea? Does this mean that
someone must be against freedom? The answer is that people cannot agree on what freedom is, thus numerous groups can claim to be "for freedom"
while strongly disagreeing on the means by which to achieve it. These groups often argue vehemently and passionately, trying to convince the majority
that their side is right. However, emotion is only one part of deciding who is more persuasive. I offer two examples of disagreements ... Show more

In other words, they saw their campus, and in turn America as a whole, moving towards the exact type of tyrannical government that they were most
opposed to. They saw these actions as representative of a totalitarian or fascist government. To them, freedom meant smaller government and more
control by the people, a more democratic democracy. Starting with the society on their campus, the students saw their ideal democracy being taken
away and more of their rights being infringed upon.
This led to a disagreement between students and authority figures over freedom. The administration saw freedom as the absence of Communism, and
saw the students' views as dangerously close to Communist. Since this was occurring during both the Cold War and the Vietnam War, Communism was
a tangible threat to American security.Freedom of speech played a key part in this argument, since the students' believed in absolute freedom of speech,
which the authorities often saw as dangerous. They too believed in the First Amendment right of the Constitution, but at the same time they felt that
certain speech should be limited. Such as speeches made by Socialists, Anarchists, and Communists. As Reagan put it, the students were going "from
free speech to filthy speech"("Freedom vs. Anarchy On Campus", 346).

president Tim Wolfe, stepped down from his position of president of the school. The protests included the university football team threatening to
boycott games until the president quit. The reason for the protests were rising racial tensions on campus. According to the New York Times, Black
students reported being called the N–word. Overall from the perspective of the Star Tribune article, the columnist shares the anger at the racial
language, and actions of others who drove around campus with confederate flags. However it is hard to understand how Wolfe was fueling these racial

Finding a willing entity to provide space or collaboration may prove a complex endeavor (Lane 2013a).
In order to save money and reduce branch start–up time, some institutions have elected to join an educational hub. These campus hubs are partnerships
between several international branch institutions and share facilities and services such as student residences, food services, libraries, and medical
facilities. Institutions participating in a hub can also benefit from joint branding and recruiting efforts. The level of cooperating inside each hub will
vary; this model may necessitate compromise regarding an institution's standards and expectations (Stanfield 2013). In one example of a hub, Education
City in Qatar, students are able to cross–register for classes between participating institutions. This practice could be beneficial to institutions hoping to
offer undergraduate programs (Stanfield 2013).
The wholly owned model is being replaced by a partnership with joint ownership and operation with a host country university. This model reduces the
financial risk of the exporting country (Homayounpour 2012). China has made is clear that this will be the preferred model for international branch
campuses moving forward. In fact, the Ministry of Education in China mandates that foreign institutions form a legal partnership with a local Chinese
university (Stanfield 2012).

University has many sports for both men and women besides the sports there are clubs anyone from the school can join. It offers a big campus where

state for 50 years. In 1890 the school had to do some improving and it added a four–year education program, new curricula, new faculty, and new ...

surprised me out because I believe that board games can be a great outlet for community builders and leaders wanting to organize events within the
campus. I can see myself organizing a board game club to bring people together. In addition, to your clubs, I'm fond of your amazing array of

Accuracy or Advocacy: The Dilemma of Campus Sexual Assault
A young woman carried a 50–pound mattress onto the stage at a graduation ceremony in Columbia University. Known as the "Mattress Performance
(Carry That Weight)", Emma Sulkowicz started carrying the mattress everywhere she went on campus in an attempt to expel a classmate who was
found not responsible for sexually assaulting her (LATimes). She became an instant media sensation, as new reporters grasped the opportunity to cover
this unique case and praised for her bravery. After receiving the National Organization for Women and the Feminist Majority Foundation awards,
Sulkowicz became one of the most admired feminist icons at that time (NationalReview). However, along with the positive responses is the skepticism.
When evidence of her unmatched accusations were published by Reason's Cathy Young, critics such as the Families Advocating for Campus Equality
(FACE) described her as an attention seeker whose project is "a personal vendetta". As journalists continue to update the new findings, the public
gradually become divided into the accused or the accuser side. Eventually it became a debate between Sulkowicz's scarring from the rape and the
accused unfair harassment. Instead of emphasizing on the emotional aspects of campus sexual assault, the media should frame rape as a violent act and
portray it as a criminal issue.
The rape culture is now more

Raping On College Campus
Being on a college campus in today's day in age can be a very dangerous or safe place for a college student. After reading the New York Times article
by Stephanie Saul, written on April 20, 2016, titled Raped at Office–Campus Frat Houses, Students Say, and Ignored by College, I believe that this has
become a large problem on college campuses. Making it more and more difficult to feel safe and secure as a student when attending a university.
In this article, Kansas State University looks at if many students––mainly male and fraternity members–are getting away with the raping of other
students, with no consequence. Two KSU students, Sara Weckhorst and Tessa Farmer, discovered this problem when they reported two rapes in 2014
and 2015 and nothing was investigated about the issue. This and other cases were expressed with the failure of the university to investigate and solve
the problem of raping's dealing with college students. "The Education Department has advised universities that they are required under Title IX to

Sexual Assault Policies Essay
Many universities across the United States have reformed their sexual assault policies. Their new policies provide a clear understanding as to what
qualifies as sexual assault. Opponents claimed that affirmative consent policies are impractical and ineffective ("Sexual Assault"). For consenting
couples, anxiety over meeting the new standard will make sex joyless and add confusion and complications ("Sexual Assault"). On the other hand,
supporters argued that "no means no" did not cover all possible sexual assault scenarios ("Sexual Assault"). Therefore, states adopted a "yes means
yes" policy ("Sexual Assault"). California's efforts marked the first time this policy was codified by a law ("Sexual Assault"). The legislation requires

Colleges and universities often do not execute strict punishments when it comes to sexual assault on campus. The police, prosecutors, defense
attorneys, judges, and juries do not always view date rape as a serious offense (Neumann). Until government officials consider rape a significant
violation when compared to other major crimes, colleges and universities will not establish sterner punishments for rapists. Colleges and universities
also tend to diminish their punishments for the "star" athletes at the school. One study concluded that while athletes constitute 3.3% of the college
population, they perpetrate 19% of all sexual assaults on campus (Ajo). Although male athletes commit multiple sexual assault crimes on campus, they
are punished leniently. Researchers contend that when sexual assault crimes are committed by athletes, society fails to label the act a crime and does
not impose harsh sanctions (Ajo). In fact, many boosters come to the defense of the team they so love (Ajo). In order to discourage college students
from committing sexual assault crimes, harsher punishments need to be set in place. If the consequences for students' actions intensified, the number
of sexual assault cases executed on college campuses would decrease. Rape needs to be considered a serious offense in order for victims of sexual
assault cases to attain

Anonymous List Essay
As I am sure the administration is aware, if not please allow this to be a formally signed notice of its existence, leaders of the current protest
movements have compiled anonymous lists of male perpetrators of sexual assault (rapists) and have been informally circulating them around campus
to women's groups and to the heads of male organizations. The informal release of this list was accompanied by an unsigned letter demanding any
individual on that list to be immediately and permanently removed from all organization they are a part of. This list has been compiled with complete
anonymity, without any evidence presented. How these names were selected is opaque, to say the least. In my experience, both before and after seeing

I implore you to take this letter seriously. Students are scared, dozens are in the process of transferring. The campus is rife with vigilantes at present

Greatest Moment Of My Life
When I was accepted into New York University it was one of the greatest moments of my life. However, growing up, I had been told by my grade
school teachers that I wasn't sufficiently brilliant and wouldn't amount to much. I believe that's part of the reason why I endured what I did during my
attendance at New York Universitybecause I felt as if I had a point to prove. The point was that nothing would prevent me from earning my degree and
that I'd be somebody one day. Amid late spring, I worked at ROSS Stores and set aside $800 to bear the cost of a flat inNew York Cityfor the fall of
2015. Hoping to move into my dream apartment that I discovered by the means of Craigslist I wound up being defrauded out of my funds. I
instantly started searching for other housing alternatives and I just happened to come across an article about a former student scandalously known
as the "Bobst Boy". He earned the nickname after becoming homeless and sleeping in Elmer Holmes Bobst Library for a semester during his senior
year. Our library's basement had two lower levels that stayed open 24/7 for studying and overnight projects. Now out of both money and hope I took
a page from his book, refusing to check into a city shelter I figured this was the most convenient, temporary, and safe option for me. I walked through
Washington Square Park with my luggage and began to hand out clothes to the homeless women in the park and dumped anything else I felt I didn't

Imagine my sadness that I would not be able to spend this special day with my family – I would have to go to class instead. Fordham is a Jesuit
University that becomes more diverse every year as new students join the community. Change takes place on campus; however, does this change allow

Diversity must be accepted and acknowledged as a change among the people for the university to flourish. We must understand that each of us are
unique in our own ways; therefore, every student has something to offer to the university. Some are defined by their grades or social media, while
others define themselves through their religious beliefs. The university must acknowledge the presence of change arising on campus so that every
individual, Christian or not, receives equal benefits of being a part of the Fordham community. According to Cappex, Fordham stands to be
predominately Roman Christian even with the large number of cultural groups on campus. What about the minority, are they not included? In 2011,
Religious Preference of enrolled freshman out of 1,986 students are: 0.9% Buddhist, 0.9% Hindu, 2.0% Jewish, 2.0% Muslim, 50.5% Catholic, 2.6%

Ginsburg V. City Of Ithaca And Cornell University Case Study
Title: Ginsburg v. City of Ithaca and Cornell University et al., 839 F. Supp. 2d. 537 (N.D.N.Y. 2012). Parties: Plaintiff: Howard I. Ginsburg, as
Administrator of the Estate of Bradley Marc Ginsburg, Defendants: City of Ithaca and Cornell University. Court: United States District Court.
Procedural posture: The case is before the Northern District of New York after the plaintiff, Howard I. Ginsburg, filed an amended petition as the
administrator of the estate of his deceased son, Bradley Marc Ginsburg, asking that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University be held negligent for
Bradley's wrongful death as well as personal injuries and conscious pain and suffering. Facts: On or about February 16 or 17, 2010, a freshman
Cornell student, Bradley Ginsburg, committed suicide after jumping to his death off the Thurston Avenue Bridge in Ithaca, New York.
Investigation showed that Bradley exhibited no visible warning signs associated with someone thinking about ending their life, but the father
alleged that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University failed to take appropriate precautions to secure the bridge after 26 prior suicides on it and
the other six bridges near campus between 1990 and 2010. Issues: 1) Did Cornell University through planning with the City of Ithaca exercise
sufficient control over the design, construction, and maintenance of the Thurston Avenue Bridge where they could not be held liable for any
alleged hazards on the bridge that might cause injuries or death? 2) Did the City of Ithaca and Cornell University takes adequate steps to ensure the
safety of individual's using the bridge at any time after the prior deaths were committed? Holdings: 1) No. Between the years of 2006 through 2007
Cornell University played a major part in the City of Ithaca's redesign and rebuilding of the Thurston Avenue Bridge but was irresponsible due to
their failure to express the importance of adding railings and other preventive suicide measures over "aesthetics" even with the prior knowledge of
past suicidal events. Galindo v. Town of Clarkstown, 2 N.Y. 3d 633, 636 (2004) states that a party that owns or controls the property "has a duty to

Cornell's Summer College is organized in a unique way. For three weeks, summer college students reside in dormitories, consume cafeteria fare (which,

Argumentative Essay On Affordable Higher Education

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On Affordable Higher Education Affordable higher education has been a focal point of discussion across the United States in recent years. Last April, Governor Andrew Cuomo spearheaded the implementation of the New York State scholarship program Excelsior. The program is designed to increase the access and ability of NY's low–income students to obtain a college education. Scholarship applicants must have an annual household income less than $100,000 as of their 2017 fall semester to qualify for a tuition free education. This level of household income will increase to $110,000 in Fall of 2018 and to $125,000 in 2019. Last year 22,000 students were awarded the scholarship. Unfortunately drawbacks of the scholarship have revealed themselves since its creation. For instance an applicant cannot qualify if they're not a full time student, have any gap in their education or will not graduate in four years. An individual awarded the scholarship cannot work outside New York State after graduation or lose their scholarship and be forced to pay back tuition in the form of a loan. ... If these numbers were to hold true in New York among the 22,000 students accepted into the program last fall 9,020 would fail to meet the requirements. Of those 12,980 who would be on track to graduate in four years, any drawback could result in Excelsior deferring to a loan for students whose families likely wouldn't have been able to send them to college without Excelsior in the first ... Victoria Harding October 12, 2014 WRT 205: Unit 2 Essay Clery Act at Work Rape is the most common violent crime on American college campuses today. (Sampson, 2003.) Statistics from the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network show that "every two minutes in the United States, someone is raped, and the chances of being that victim are four times greater for a female college student than for any other age group" (Burnett, 2009). In September of 2013, I was drugged and sexually assaulted at a fraternity house party. It is a year later and neither the man responsible nor the fraternity has been punished. A confusing trip to the campus health center the morning after changed my whole persona and sent me into a downward spiral of depression. After reporting it to the university, that depression turned into anger when I realized that the administration doesn't care enough about the epidemic of rapes on campus as it needs to. They labeled my case "poor decision making due to intoxication" and placed the blame solely on my shoulders. Intoxication? I think its pronounced "Rohypnol". My case is not the only one that has been swept under the rug. Sexual assault in college environments are a common occurrence and no student should ever have to feel like they are at risk of being assaulted by one of their peers when they are out partying. • 6. Penn State Pride Essay Where's the Penn State Pride?By Sahib KaurDear Executive Board of Penn State,I once was a prospective student who was considering applying for Penn State, among various other universities. When doing my college research, the first thing that I did was look up the college websites. And as most other students would believe, the website is the main source for discerning the institution's credibility and status. Unfortunately, I have to say, that Penn State's website does not do the college justice. With no visual ascetics, no organized structure, and no evidence of pride, the Penn State website is at best, mediocre. When opening up to the page, the reader is fiercely exposed to a vast expanse of a bright blue hue. While I understand that blue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "just there". By randomly placing the video on the page, the importance of it is diminished. Had the video been placed in a designated spot with a proper heading and caption to explainwhat it means, the video would make a much greater impact on the viewer. Also, while researching other college websites, I have noticed that most of them dedicate quite a large portion of the site to the college news. For example, if you look at Tennessee State University, the bottom half of the college website is divided into two columns, one for upcoming events, and another column for recent developments in the college. A prospectivestudent would look at the page and would feel that students in college are very active. In comparison, Penn State has allotted a tiny corner on the bottom left for news. It is sad to think that Pennsylvania StateUniversity, which has over ten campuses, does not have the pride to display all the events that go on in the campuses. As someone who cares for the well–being of Penn State, I feel that having more to show would truly represent what Penn State is: An active campus with students who actually care.Furthermore, it is of utmost significance that a website portray the "pride and glory" of the university. For a majority of prospective students, a visit to a campus is often not possible, thereby making it difficult to discern the true glory of the campus. As a result, the college website becomes the main portal through which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The likelihood of universities doing this is small because a university does not want to single themselves out for their problems of sexual assault, even though it is a problem for nearly all college campuses. Colleges are also hesitant to admit there is a problem in fear of losing perspective students and losing money from donors. College must become safe places where victims feel they are able to report their assault and be protected while justice is served. When a student reports a sexual assault the school must take the report seriously. Not taking the assault seriously, could lead to more sexual assaults on campus from the same assaulter. According to Saul, of the New York Times, "a study of 1,642 men at two different colleges was published in JAMA Pediatrics and found that while a larger number of men admitted to behaviors that constituted rape, a smaller percentage of them, closer to 25 percent, were repeat offenders" (Saul). In the case of one of Ms. Weckhorst's abuser, he went on to rape another student in October of 2015. Not punishing the assaulter only leads to more sexual assaults. Though many colleges have been outspoken about the problem of sexual assault, though their actions typically do not support their words, they have begun to discusses ways to prevent sexual assault, such as programs against sexual violence. According to Katherine Silbaugh her article, REACTIVE TO PROACTIVE: TITLE IX'S UNREALIZED CAPACITY TO PREVENT CAMPUS SEXUAL ASSAULT, "Only two programs have rigorous evidence of effectiveness for preventing sexual violence: Safe Dates and the building–level intervention of Shifting Boundaries. • 14. The Many Faces of Freedom? Essay The Many Face of Freedom? Freedom is a concept that people are often willing to die for and it is the cause of much fighting. However, few people ever claim to dislike freedom. This raises an interesting question: how can people fight over what is generally considered to be a positive idea? Does this mean that someone must be against freedom? The answer is that people cannot agree on what freedom is, thus numerous groups can claim to be "for freedom" while strongly disagreeing on the means by which to achieve it. These groups often argue vehemently and passionately, trying to convince the majority that their side is right. However, emotion is only one part of deciding who is more persuasive. Starting with the society on their campus, the students saw their ideal democracy being taken away and more of their rights being infringed upon. This led to a disagreement between students and authority figures over freedom. The administration saw freedom as the absence of Communism, and saw the students' views as dangerously close to Communist. Since this was occurring during both the Cold War and the Vietnam War, Communism was a tangible threat to American security.Freedom of speech played a key part in this argument, since the students' believed in absolute freedom of speech, which the authorities often saw as dangerous. They too believed in the First Amendment right of the Constitution, but at the same time they felt that certain speech should be limited. Such as speeches made by Socialists, Anarchists, and Communists. As Reagan put it, the students were going "from free speech to filthy speech"("Freedom vs. Anarchy On Campus", 346). The three different sources I used were an opinion article on the Star Tribune, an informational article from the United Kingdom Independent, and a student blog from the University of Missouri. Under several weeks of protest president Tim Wolfe, stepped down from his position of president of the school. The protests included the university football team threatening to boycott games until the president quit. The reason for the protests were rising racial tensions on campus. According to the New York Times, Black students reported being called the N–word. Overall from the perspective of the Star Tribune article, the columnist shares the anger at the racial language, and actions of others who drove around campus with confederate flags. Known as the "Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight)", Emma Sulkowicz started carrying the mattress everywhere she went on campus in an attempt to expel a classmate who was found not responsible for sexually assaulting her (LATimes). She became an instant media sensation, as new reporters grasped the opportunity to cover this unique case and praised for her bravery. After receiving the National Organization for Women and the Feminist Majority Foundation awards, Sulkowicz became one of the most admired feminist icons at that time (NationalReview). However, along with the positive responses is the skepticism. When evidence of her unmatched accusations were published by Reason's Cathy Young, critics such as the Families Advocating for Campus Equality (FACE) described her as an attention seeker whose project is "a personal vendetta". As journalists continue to update the new findings, the public gradually become divided into the accused or the accuser side. A friend who attends there has told me about the many opportunities that i cannot wait to take advantage of. This school is both challenging for the students and offers a great campus life. It is close enough to home that I could visit if I want. It also has my three top major choices, of which i have not decided between. Most of the universities do not have all three of my options. I love that NYU has all three because if I decide that I don't want to pursue one major, I can switch to the other with ease. I have always felt an enormous connection to New York City, as I've lived on Long Island my whole life. Dorming in the city would be such a great experience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Greatest Moment Of My Life When I was accepted into New York University it was one of the greatest moments of my life. However, growing up, I had been told by my grade school teachers that I wasn't sufficiently brilliant and wouldn't amount to much. I believe that's part of the reason why I endured what I did during my attendance at New York Universitybecause I felt as if I had a point to prove. The point was that nothing would prevent me from earning my degree and that I'd be somebody one day. Amid late spring, I worked at ROSS Stores and set aside $800 to bear the cost of a flat inNew York Cityfor the fall of 2015. Hoping to move into my dream apartment that I discovered by the means of Craigslist I wound up being defrauded out of my funds. I instantly started searching for other housing alternatives and I just happened to come across an article about a former student scandalously known as the "Bobst Boy". He earned the nickname after becoming homeless and sleeping in Elmer Holmes Bobst Library for a semester during his senior year. Our library's basement had two lower levels that stayed open 24/7 for studying and overnight projects. Now out of both money and hope I took a page from his book, refusing to check into a city shelter I figured this was the most convenient, temporary, and safe option for me. I walked through Washington Square Park with my luggage and began to hand out clothes to the homeless women in the park and dumped anything else I felt I didn't need. At that point, I crossed the ... • 35. The Non Christian Holidays Eid is the most sacred and festive day for a Muslim such as myself. Time goes by in a flash, the fall semester had just begun and Eid was days away. Imagine my sadness that I would not be able to spend this special day with my family – I would have to go to class instead. Fordham is a Jesuit University that becomes more diverse every year as new students join the community. Change takes place on campus; however, does this change allow for equal privileges among all the students? Every year, thousands of freshmen enter the gates of Fordham University. Among these students, not all are Christian. Some are Jews, some Muslim, and some Hindu and Buddhist. As a Jesuit school, Fordham mainly recognizes Christian holidays as official holidays.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diversity must be accepted and acknowledged as a change among the people for the university to flourish. We must understand that each of us are unique in our own ways; therefore, every student has something to offer to the university. Some are defined by their grades or social media, while others define themselves through their religious beliefs. The university must acknowledge the presence of change arising on campus so that every individual, Christian or not, receives equal benefits of being a part of the Fordham community. According to Cappex, Fordham stands to be predominately Roman Christian even with the large number of cultural groups on campus. What about the minority, are they not included? In 2011, Religious Preference of enrolled freshman out of 1,986 students are: 0.9% Buddhist, 0.9% Hindu, 2.0% Jewish, 2.0% Muslim, 50.5% Catholic, 2.6% Greek Orthodox, and 8.5% Protestant. As of 2015, out of 2,211 students there are 0.8% Buddhist, 1.4% Hindu, 2.3% Jewish, 4.0% Muslim, 48.8% Catholic, 1.8% Greek Orthodox, and 7.0% Protestant. After four years, the religious diversity among the students attending Fordham ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Ginsburg V. City Of Ithaca And Cornell University Case Study Title: Ginsburg v. City of Ithaca and Cornell University et al., 839 F. Supp. 2d. 537 (N.D.N.Y. 2012). Parties: Plaintiff: Howard I. Ginsburg, as Administrator of the Estate of Bradley Marc Ginsburg, Defendants: City of Ithaca and Cornell University. Court: United States District Court. Procedural posture: The case is before the Northern District of New York after the plaintiff, Howard I. Ginsburg, filed an amended petition as the administrator of the estate of his deceased son, Bradley Marc Ginsburg, asking that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University be held negligent for Bradley's wrongful death as well as personal injuries and conscious pain and suffering. Facts: On or about February 16 or 17, 2010, a freshman Cornell student, Bradley Ginsburg, committed suicide after jumping to his death off the Thurston Avenue Bridge in Ithaca, New York. Investigation showed that Bradley exhibited no visible warning signs associated with someone thinking about ending their life, but the father alleged that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University failed to take appropriate precautions to secure the bridge after 26 prior suicides on it and the other six bridges near campus between 1990 and 2010. Issues: 1) Did Cornell University through planning with the City of Ithaca exercise sufficient control over the design, construction, and maintenance of the Thurston Avenue Bridge where they could not be held liable for any alleged hazards on the bridge that might cause injuries or death? 2) Did the City of Ithaca and Cornell University takes adequate steps to ensure the safety of individual's using the bridge at any time after the prior deaths were committed? Holdings: 1) No. Between the years of 2006 through 2007 Cornell University played a major part in the City of Ithaca's redesign and rebuilding of the Thurston Avenue Bridge but was irresponsible due to their failure to express the importance of adding railings and other preventive suicide measures over "aesthetics" even with the prior knowledge of past suicidal events. Galindo v. Town of Clarkstown, 2 N.Y. 3d 633, 636 (2004) states that a party that owns or controls the property "has a duty to exercise reasonable care under the circumstances in ... • 39. Personal Narrative: My Experience At Cornell's Summer College "We may never know what we will become". That quotation seems especially apt to me because it sums up the prevailing attitude at Cornell University Summer College, a program that I had attended between my junior and senior year of high school. Cornell's Summer College is organized in a unique way. For three weeks, summer college students reside in dormitories, consume cafeteria fare (which, by the way, is rated the best in the Ivy League), and enroll in an university course. Cornell's regular faculty who make absolutely no distinction between summer college students and actual undergraduates teaches these courses. Although the course work was some of the toughest I have ever experienced, it provided me with a generous sampling of the rigors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
