This article is taken from the film
segment of Timeout Magazine. The
magazine is structured in a specific
way with certain colours designated
for certain sections. In this example
the colour purple is representative of
film segment . The meaning behind
the colour purple connotes luxury
and power which further gives this
idea that film is a source of
entertainment and luxurious in its
own way alongside the idea that m
has this power over us as an
audience.
This

gives
recognition to the
editor but in a way is
not very noticeable.

Immediately this mast head makes the
audience aware of what this section in the
article is focused on which allows them to
determine whether they will read on or not.
Within media we are constantly seeing how
everything is becoming online and this is
addressed by timeout with this link to there
twitter and website. This shows that they are
Brief but not necessarily to the point. I think that the overall pragmatics of
the article pieces together the audiences understanding of this title. From
looking at the central image the audience can piece together the fact that
whoever is in the picture is self motivated and the fact that this article is in
the film section further allows them to understand that the individual is
either an director or actor.
The way the picture is edited makes it
look as though he is coming out of the
image which connotes this idea that in
this article he is going to reveal some
interesting facts. Alongside the idea that
he is coming out from his acting roles
and simply being his self in the article.
The usage of this image immediately
allows the audience to become aware of
who Seth Rogen is visually. For many of
us we hardly ever remember the names
of actors but can identify them visually so
this image stands as a focal point in the
relevance of the article. For those
individuals who do not recognise him
from films they may have seen, this
image determines whether they read on
or not.
The neutral colours used in this image
are used to connote the idea that this
article reveals the real Seth Rogen in
his natural form rather than as an
acted role.
The article takes the format of an
interview whereby a question and answer
system is established. This technique
provides the audience with the option of
scanning the article and finding particular
questions and answers they may be
interested in.
The questions are wrote in bold which
visually divides the article into sections
foe the audience to see where one
question starts and where the other
finishes.

The purple quotation marks let the audience
know it was definitely stated during an interview
as well as maintaining the consistency in its
purple theme.
This quotation cannot be found anywhere else in
the article, therefore the author has picked out
the most interesting quote made by Seth which
at a glance draws the audience in as to what
else he may have said.
The quotes appears in an invisible box that
molds the text around it making the quote even
The title of this section immediately tells the
audiences that the section is going to be a
timeline of some sort using a quote in which we
are familiar within terms of films (e.g. the making
of titanic) . In a way they are explaining his life
as a film.

The round frame connotes this sense of continuation in Seth
Rogen’s career, going from one film to another. The use of this
shape frames relevant images from the films he has acted in
which allows the audience to recognize or become interested in
what the films are about.
The bold and capital typeface emphasizes the name of the film
which adds impact although the font size is relatively small.
The date in brackets presents a timeline for the audience to
understand when his career started and how he has
progressed.
This short paragraph tells the audience primarily about Seth’s
role in the film, high lighting some of his achievements within
that year. This acknowledges him good actor which may also
attract the audience into wanting to watch films that he stars in.
This section is basically a fact file of Seth Rogen.
