1. Subgenre Explanation
Throughout our research and planning we did extensive research into many of the top sub-
genres of horror, this allowed us to explore conventions and understand what would be
expected in a trailer of each subgenre, this gave us an understanding of all subgenres which
enabled us to select which genre we would like our trailer for fall into.
The sub-genre that we have chosen for the focus of our horror trailer will be slasher. The
slasher genre is one of the most influential and iconic sub-genres to fall into the horror film
bracket. Slasher is home to some of the best know films within horror for example
Halloween, A nightmare on Elm Street and the Scream franchise.
We have chosen to study and produce our trailer within this genre because we feel we are
able to deliver realistic and conventional pieces of work which will attract the traditional
slasher target audience.
During our research into the slasher genre we discovered that director Wes Craven was
responsible for directing the whole scream franchise and The Nightmare on Elm street. We
all agreed that he is a respected director within this sub-genre and enjoy watching his work,
he has inspired us to create a slasher themed media package.
