Survey of class musci
1. Survey of Class Musci in Caraga State University campus and Barangay Tungao Butuan City
2. INTRODUCTION The largest class of the division Bryophyta, the true mosses. Members of the class characterized by operculate capsules and peristome that aids in the dispersals of spores, and are generally perennial. Class Musci also known mosses, belongs to the division of bryophytes (William Swift, 2000). They commonly found at the lower rather large areas of streams banks they grow on rocks and tress, or sometimes submerged in streams( T .Elliot 1988).Mosses as a class show structural uniformly of nearby all 20,000 species have growth stages creeping-filaments stage. Moss plant with an upright or horizontal stem-bearing spirally arranged green leaves. (Ralph Stocking 1988). A moss comprises about 23,000 sp. Of small, delicate green plants in the class musci with hepatics, other liverworts (Class Hepataceae) and hornworts (Class Antoceroteae),they comprises the division bryophyte .In plant kingdom, most mosses grow n moist and shaded woods and forests, rarely in open places, although a relatively few kinds are adopted in aquatic habitat in standing and running water, and some even live in the dessert (Groiler Vol.6) In the northernmost of united state in much in Canada, sphagnum may produce vast plants bogs. The carbohydrates materials accumulated by the continuing growth of peat mosses over long periods of time are a source of fuel. (Thomas L.Rost 2001).Granite mosses consist of fewer than a hundred species, at almost all of them in the genus and andrelae that grow directly on acidic rock in the mountains (William Stock Smith1989)
3. Objectives of the Study The general objective of the study is to survey the different species found in CSU-Ampayon, Butuan City and in Tungao, Butuan City Specifically it aims to: 1. Identify the different species of Class Musci found in the two area with their scientific name and common name; 2.Determine their economic importance; 3.Evaluate the abundance of species in different station between the two areas.
4. Significance of the study The significance of the study is to know the perspective of bryophytes, mainly Class Musci, and to classify different species of musci in the two areas, such as in CSU campus that lead us for a discovery of different species of musci based in their different habitat.
5. Scope and Limitation The survey of Class Musci was conducted at selected areas of CSU-Ampayon, Butuan City and in Tungao, Butuan City. This study was limited in identifying the different species found in the area, determining their economic importance and evaluating the abundance of species in different station of the two areas. Further information taken from the books and journals.
6. METHODOLOGY Locale of the study The study was conducted at selected areas of CSU-Ampayon, Butuan City and in Tungao, Butuan City were three stations in every area. Data Gathering Field of observations was performed in the different stations in the study area. Photography was also taken for the proper identification of the collected species found in the area.

13. Summary, Conclusions and Recommendation The study focused on the identification of Class Musci in CSU and Tungao, Butuan City. The study aimed to determine the economic importance of mosses. The study was conducted in three sampling sites in two different areas. There are 4 species of mosses found in CSU and 5 species found in Tungao, Butuan City. There were 4 species of mosses obtained from CSU campus. The Dicranum scoparium,Callidadium haldanianum,Tortulas muralis, and Physconythrium pyriforme . The were also 5 species of moss obtained from Tungao, Butuan City. The Dicranum scoparium, Callidadium haldanianum,Tortulas muralis, Physcomitrium pyriforme , and Andreaobyrum macrospuron. Callicladium haldanianum was the most abundant species in entire area in sampling period . Callicladium haldanianum were found in the tree of a shaded area or in a forest. Based on the results of the study it is recommended that studies about mosses have to be conducted. Due to time constraints the researches recommended that further studies are required to establish the diversity of mosses in the said areas. In order to provide more extensive results of the study more areas should be added and time management is important.
