Who would be the audience for your media product?
My product will be targeted for young men ageing from 16 to 26 who are
interested in the urban culture. After doing my research I found that they are
the group most likely to go and buy a hip hop/rnb magazine.
The magazine will cater for men more rather the women as it will contain
articles on men’s fashion, cars and hip hop music.
I have chosen to start my target audience from 16 as I have leant that
teenagers living in urban areas are now more exposed of the hip hop culture
due to the internet and hundreds of music channels on tv. Teenagers can save
their pocket money and buy the magazine as they will want to know the
latest news about the hip hop industry and fashion and talk about the latest
trends with their friends.
Also university students will buy my magazine as in their social group they
may go out to concerts to see rappers such as lil wayne and bow wow. Also
whilst studying they may listen to hip hop music therefore there interest in
hip hop will grow as a result when they are in a shop they will be tempted to
buy the magazine as they will want to find out the latest news on their
favourite rapper or singer.
My target audience will end at the age of 26 as I feel people older then 26
will not be interested in buying a hip hop magazine as my product will
feature younger rappers and singer which the older readers would not be
able to relate to. As my magazine is a new magazine focusing on the new
trends such as skinny jeans and geek glasses the older generation will not be
interested as they are more likely to buy magazine such as ‘the source’
which is more hardcore hip hop and contains articles about gangster hip hop
artist such as snoop Dogg, DMX etc.
