QUESTION 4:
Who would be the
audience for your media
product?
There are multiple elements for
type of audience for our media
product:
• Age Rating
• IMBd
• Looking at our research, we found
that 15+ was general age rating for
most Post- Apocalyptic films such as:
I am Legend and The Matrix.
After researching classification categories and my initial
research, I can conclude people would be suited for our
post apocalyptic film opening would be a 15+ audience.
15+ audience is a ‘mature’ audience. This is a general
age rating for Post – Apocalyptic film. This meant that
frequent strong language and violence as well as brief
sex scenes could be used. This was conventional of the
post apocalyptic genre. Information I gained from the
IMBD website suggested that post-apocalyptic films
such as Monsters and I am legend were most highly
rated by males under 18 years old, but that they were
most watched by males between 18-29 years old. Post
– Apocalyptic films I have researched reflects this with
a suitable level of violence and prominent male
characters.
• We have chosen a British
Independent company therefore
since our audience would be aimed at
a ‘mature’ audience, our film would
most likely be seen in independent
cinemas rather than blockbusters
such as Cineworld or Odeon etc.
• Viewing the IMBd our
age target audience is
18-44 years. Also, after
researching the
statistics it has been
proven that male and
female have the
highest score of votes
with 18 and under.
Overall, two male protagonists are
male which probably would attract
males more however our narrative has
a slow pace which would more likely
attract women.
Question 5:
How did you
attract/address
your audience?
There are multiple factors that
attract our audience such as:
-storyline
-characters
-conventions
• To create our film opening we chose Post
apocalyptic genre. After conducting my
research on post-apocalyptic genre films, we
noticed the prominent gender who would
enjoy my film are males. In our film opening,
two of the main characters are male so that
the audience can relate to them. Our film
opening 'Revelation‘ has a serious narrative
and has a serene and slow pace which would
appeal to our audience.
• After looking at classification categories,
our main audience and is aged at males
18-44. We based our film opening on
other post apocalyptic films such as The
book Of Eli and The Road. Our target
audience would most likely be interested
in the male protagonist (Jake)struggle for
survival.
• In terms of nationality our audience would
most likely be British. This is because our film
opening follows British Conventions such as
British male characters and location is set in
the countryside (rural area). Also, our
audiences race would mainly be white
people/white British as the two main
protagonists are also white.
Conclusion
• A British audience will most likely
enjoy our film opening as the
voiceover/music makes our film
opening tense and dramatic.
