A Few Creative Ideation Exercises
Brainstorming
Give each person or team two random words ask
for business ideas. This fosters creativity.
Yes, And
Ideate together using only yes, and in response to
the previous person. This reveals underlying wants.
Empathy Challenge
Display a scene that shares the challenge at hand.
Ask what is happening outside of that frame.
Systems Mapping
Circle up in groups of 8-10. Each person selects 2
others. Now, all move to form equilateral triangles.
Design the perfect bag.
What is happening beyond the borders?
Why do you think this well is unused?

experience
Kindergarteners are more creative
than a group of CEOs. Somewhere
along the way, we confined ourselves
to coloring inside the lines.
Learn to prototype and build an MVP
(minimum viable product or program).
What you’ll need:
● Pen, Paper, Markers, Crayons,
Scissors, Blocks, Sticks, String or
other craft supplies.
Ask questions often
Test, Test and Test
We can dive into building new and
better options, and fail to create the
roadmap for adoption and change.
Some questions to ask:
● Who does this serve?
● Why is this better?
● What is the competition?
● How will we support adoption?
● What are the possible effects?
Then, test with real people!
Failure is understanding what doesn’t
work. It’s a process of elimination
towards finding a new approach.

Designing for the greater good

  • 7. A Few Creative Ideation Exercises Brainstorming Give each person or team two random words ask for business ideas. This fosters creativity. Yes, And Ideate together using only yes, and in response to the previous person. This reveals underlying wants. Empathy Challenge Display a scene that shares the challenge at hand. Ask what is happening outside of that frame. Systems Mapping Circle up in groups of 8-10. Each person selects 2 others. Now, all move to form equilateral triangles.

Learn to prototype and build an MVP (minimum viable product or program). What you’ll need: ● Pen, Paper, Markers, Crayons, Scissors, Blocks, Sticks, String or other craft supplies.
  • 16. Ask questions often Test, Test and Test We can dive into building new and better options, and fail to create the roadmap for adoption and change. Some questions to ask: ● Who does this serve? ● Why is this better? ● What is the competition? ● How will we support adoption? ● What are the possible effects? Then, test with real people!
  • 17. Failure is understanding what doesn’t work. It’s a process of elimination towards finding a new approach.
