Context/Connect: Connect with the person, welcome
them and set the context that you want to discuss.
Observation: Introduce specific factual descriptions
of your observation which you want to change.
Impact: Show the impact of the event, issue, or
behaviours on others.
Next steps: Help the individual for a clear agreement
on the changes or improvements.

Jacob has attitude problem. He either gives short answers or
pretend to be busy when his junior asks for the guidance.
I noticed when Alen came to discuss with you about the
challenge faced in handling the client query, you answered her
in a short sentence as if it’s very basic question . It seemed you
were quite busy with your work.
After your answer Alen felt very low and confused. If you are not
going to share your experience with the juniors then they can’t
be skilled enough to handle client’s query which would result in
losing the clients and finally the business.
Maybe next time you could give Alen a timeslot to come
up with her queries so that you are also focused to
understand her challenges. You can share your knowledge
& experience that would give her confidence and learning to
handle the situation effectively.

  • 2. Remember C.O.I.N formula to ensure that the feedbacks are accepted in a positive way that will help the recipients to improve their performance. In absence of COIN formula the feedback can be :- “ Jacob why do you have such a high ego and always pretend to be the busiest person in office “ How to give a constructive feedback? COIN Conversation helps here to avoid any conflict ! 😊
  • 3. Coin Conversation - An approach to lead a difficult conversation. Context/Connect: Connect with the person, welcome them and set the context that you want to discuss. Observation: Introduce specific factual descriptions of your observation which you want to change. Impact: Show the impact of the event, issue, or behaviours on others. Next steps: Help the individual for a clear agreement on the changes or improvements.
  • 4. "I noticed that you could n't guide Alen on her query - 'How to handle a particular client' " "Jacob, I feel your juniors need mentoring" CONTEXT OBSERVATION IMPACT NEXT Define the Situation Describe the Behaviour Clarify the Impact "It looks Alen is upset as she didn't get the confidence and that may result in losing the deal" Make the Suggestion "I'd like you to work with Alen, fix a dedicated timeslot with her and team to discuss issues and concerns so they can work effectively on the deal"
  • 5. Jacob has attitude problem. He either gives short answers or pretend to be busy when his junior asks for the guidance. I noticed when Alen came to discuss with you about the challenge faced in handling the client query, you answered her in a short sentence as if it’s very basic question . It seemed you were quite busy with your work. After your answer Alen felt very low and confused. If you are not going to share your experience with the juniors then they can’t be skilled enough to handle client’s query which would result in losing the clients and finally the business. Maybe next time you could give Alen a timeslot to come up with her queries so that you are also focused to understand her challenges. You can share your knowledge & experience that would give her confidence and learning to handle the situation effectively. CONTEXT OBSERVATION NEXT IMPACT
