7. Coca-Cola got the official sponsorship for the 1996
Cricket World Cup by paying huge money. Pepsi
booked the major players including Sachin Tendulkar
as its Brand Ambassador and launched an Ad-
Campaign with a tagline, “Nothing Official About it”.
During the finals of the match, Pepsi launched hot
air balloons all around the stadium with the Brand
“Pepsi” engraved on it. People were confused about
‘who the official sponsor was?’. But Pepsi won the
war and its sales increased drastically. Coca-Cola
even after spending huge money became a loser.
This is one of the most historic successes of Ambush
Marketing.
