AT&T to Sell its Operations in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin
Islands to Liberty Latin America
AT&T announced that it plans to sell its wireless and wireline operations in
Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to Liberty Latin America. The
transaction includes network assets, including spectrum; real estate and
leases; customers, including 1.1 million wireless subscribers; and contracts.
At close, approximately 1,300 current AT&T employees will move to Liberty
Latin America. To ensure a smooth transition for its customers, AT&T will
provide certain transition support functions to Liberty Latin America
following close of the transaction. Under terms of the agreement, AT&T will
retain FirstNet responsibilities and relationships as well as DIRECTV and
certain global business customer relationships. The sale does not affect
AT&T’s FirstNet commitment. AT&T retains its dedicated FirstNet network
core and service capabilities. Among other services, post-close Liberty Latin
America will support AT&T’s FirstNet build in Puerto Rico and the U.S.
Virgin Islands, expanding LTE coverage and capacity to best meet the needs
of first responders in the region. Eligible first responders subscribing to
AT&T’s FirstNet services in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will still
have access to the benefits and capabilities of the FirstNet network platform,
including priority and preemption.
Executive Commentary
“I’m proud of AT&T’s history in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin
Islands,” said AT&T Vice President-General Manager for the region. “I’m
especially proud of our network and the recent network enhancements
that have helped AT&T rank as the fastest network in Puerto Rico.1
AT&T also has the most coverage on the island. Our experienced and
committed team members will continue to support these operations as we
join Liberty Latin America. Liberty Latin America has expressed its
commitment to provide high-quality communications services to the
people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. And we’re confident
that it is equally committed to supporting these communities.”

Nokia Corporation Financial Report for Q3 and
January-September 2019
• Net sales in Q3 2019 were EUR 5.7 billion, compared to EUR 5.5 billion in Q3 2018. On
a constant currency basis, net sales increased 1%. Our solid overall topline performance
was driven by improved industry demand and the competitiveness of our end-to-end
portfolio, with growth across four out of six regions and all customer types.
• Non-IFRS diluted EPS in Q3 2019 was EUR 0.05, compared to EUR 0.06 in Q3 2018,
primarily driven by lower gross profit in Networks and a net negative fluctuation in
financial income and expenses. This was partially offset by higher gross profit in Nokia
Software and continued progress related to Nokia’s cost savings program, which resulted
in lower operating expenses across Networks, Nokia Software and Nokia Technologies.
• Reported diluted EPS in Q3 2019 was EUR 0.01, compared to negative EUR 0.02 in Q3
2018, primarily driven by continued progress related to Nokia’s cost savings program and
a gain on defined benefit plan amendments, partially offset by higher income taxes.
• In Q3 2019, net cash and current financial investments decreased sequentially by
approximately EUR 160 million. Within this, we generated positive net cash from
operating activities, which partially offset cash outflows from investing and financing
activities, including the payment of the quarterly dividend.
• Full year 2019 and full year 2020 outlook lowered primarily due to margin pressure,
additional 5G investments and additional digitalization investments.
Executive Commentary
President and Ceo, On Q3 2019 Results: Nokia delivered a solid third quarter, with
positive free cash flow; widespread sales growth; solid operating margin; strong
performances in Nokia Enterprise, Nokia Software and IP Routing; and good progress
towards meeting our 2019 cost reduction goals. We are proud to have launched 15 live
5G networks with customers, including Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile in the US;
Vodafone Italy and Zain in Saudi Arabia; as well as SKT, KT and LGU+ in Korea.
Many of our businesses are performing well and we expect Q4 to be strong, with a
robust operating margin and an increase in net cash of approximately EUR 1.2 billion.
At the same time, some of the risks that we flagged previously related to the initial
phase of 5G are now materializing. In particular, our Q3 gross margin was impacted by
product mix; a high cost level associated with our first generation 5G products;
profitability challenges in China; pricing pressure in early 5G deals; and uncertainty
related to the announced operator merger in North America.

ADTRAN Gives Voice to Small Businesses and Distributed Enterprises
with ADTRAN SD-WAN
Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries
15
Solution Description
ADTRAN, Inc., a leading provider of next-generation open networking and subscriber experience software, announced its new SD-WAN
solution designed to help small-to-medium businesses and distributed enterprises take advantage of cloud-based networking while keeping
existing voice and security solutions in place to make the transition easier, faster and more affordable. The ADTRAN SD-WAN platform
provides both outbound and inbound quality of service (QoS), seamless connectivity and control of cloud applications and voice services.
The solution automatically detects business critical and performance-sensitive traffic without having to manually set up policies as with
first-generation SD-WAN solutions. This capability enables all future cloud applications to integrate into the business without manual
intervention. Additionally, the SD-WAN solution delivers end-to-end visibility, measuring each connection from any location on the
network, all along its path, to ADTRAN gateways at any other location. Further, by identifying application traffic in real time, it can detect
and automatically adjust based on the performance needs of the applications currently in use. Unlike many edge-based or next-generation
firewall-based SD-WAN solutions, this improved SD-WAN cloud supports active-active WAN links, inbound QoS, single IP failover and a
cloud gateway component for control of cloud-based content. It also includes multiple gateways across the continental U.S and has its own
redundant backbone between gateways, upstream feeds at each gateway, and connections for each customer location to two gateways for
failover protection. Additionally, service providers have the option to move the cloud software to their data centers when they are

Fujitsu Launches New Stream Data Processing Platform to Accelerate Use of
Automotive Big Data
Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries
26
Solution Description
Fujitsu Limited announced that it will launch a new stream data processing platform for service providers to maximize the use
of big data collected from connected cars. The new platform facilitates simple and efficient automotive big data analysis by
leveraging Fujitsu's data processing technology, Dracena (1), a stream processing architecture that can add or change content
while processing large volumes of IoT data, without stopping. The new platform allows for the management and processing of
data in discreet units of people and objects including pedestrians, vehicles, roads, and buildings, which are constantly changing
in the real world. This makes it possible to digitally reproduce the surrounding situation, including other vehicles. Continuous
data processing additionally offers users the flexibility to add and change services that must operate without disruption, such as
real-time hazard prediction for connected cars. Going forward, Fujitsu plans to roll out the service in overseas regions including
North America and Europe. The mobility industry is presently undergoing a once in a century period of change, and from 2020
onward, the number of connected cars will increase exponentially. Big data from connected vehicles, including images
collected from car sensors, and CAN (2) data, will play an important role in realizing mobility services like traffic monitoring,
maps, and insurance, as well as vehicle design. Simultaneously, these systems for analyzing automotive big data are siloed for
each service and overlap in development functions and system resources, creating a need for a system that can flexibly and
efficiently implement various services concurrently.

Fujitsu Develops AI based Facial Expression Recognition Technology to Accurately
Detect Subtle Changes in Expression
Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries
27
Solution Description
Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. and Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. announced the development of an AI facial
expression recognition technology that detects subtle changes in facial expression with a high degree of accuracy. The
new technology was developed in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science. One of
the obstacles for facial expression recognition technology is the difficulty in providing large amounts of data required to
train detection models for each facial pose, because faces are usually captured with a wide variety of poses in real-world
applications. To address the problem, Fujitsu has developed a technology to adapt different normalization process for
each facial image. For example, when the angle of the subject's face is oblique, the technology can adjust the image to
more closely resemble the frontal image of the face, allowing the detection model to be trained with a relatively small
amount of data. The technology can accurately detect subtle emotional changes, including uncomfortable or nervous
laughter, confusion, etc.-even when the subject's face is moving in a real-world context. Fujitsu anticipates that the new
technology will find use in a variety of real-world applications, including communication facilitation for employee
engagement and to improve workplace safety for drivers and factory workers.

Fujitsu Develops Technology to Prevent the Analogy of Encrypted Confidential
Information
Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries
28
Solution Description
Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. announced that it has developed a technology that enables safer search of database by
strengthening its secure search technology, which can infer a database or the contents of a search while they are
encrypted, preventing the inference of the original data. Even in an encrypted database, there is a risk that the original
data may be inferred from the number of registered data, for example, by comparing it with published statistical
information. By adding a minimum amount of dummy data to the database, the newly developed technology can disturb
the number of entries in the database and prevent the original data from being inferred. This enables a more secure
utilization of encrypted database of personal data(1) and confidential data(2), which are managed in various locations
such as the cloud. Moreover, the new technology is expected to promote data utilization across organizations. Along
with the enactment of the Basic Act for the Advancement of Public and Private Sector Data Utilization(3) and other
legal developments, as well as the spread of systems such as cloud computing and big data analysis, it is expected that
personal and confidential data will be utilized across organizations and industries. In the medical field, the Next
Generation Medical Infrastructure Act(4) was enacted in 2018, and companies and universities have been promoting
research and development of drug discovery based on clinical data of hospitals.

Fujitsu Develops Technology for Maintaining Stable, High-Accuracy AI
Operations
Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries

Solution Description
Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd., announced the development of the world's first "High Durability Learning" technology that estimates
the accuracy of AI and automatically restores AI models. In a business context, AI models often struggle to maintain accuracy
over the course of operations due to frequent changes in input data caused by shifts in social conditions and market trends. The
newly developed technology makes it possible to automatically estimate the accuracy of the AI model during operations while
preventing deterioration of its accuracy. This technology enables AI models to be maintained with high accuracy over a long
period, and enables stable AI operations in various circumstances. This technology will be offered as part of Fujitsu's Human
Centric AI Zinrai, a comprehensive portfolio that encompasses Fujitsu's wide range of AI technologies and techniques. As AI
models built from training data find additional uses in business, shifts in social conditions, market trends, and the environment
can lead to changes in input data from the time when the model was initially trained. This cause deterioration of the accuracy of
an AI model. When evaluating corporate credit risk in the financial sector using an AI model trained with corporate financial
data, for instance, the accuracy of credit risk estimates will gradually deteriorate. This is because tendencies of input data into
the system will change over time after the model was initially trained due to broader trends in the economy. This makes it
essential to periodically check the accuracy of AI models being used for business. If deterioration of the accuracy is confirmed,
the AI model must be retrained using the latest data to restore the accuracy of its predictions.

Nokia completes world’s first single-carrier terabit-per-second field trial, sets optical
transmission capacity record over Etisalat’s fibre network in UAE
Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries
40
Solution Description
Nokia and Etisalat, one of the world’s leading telecom groups in emerging markets, have set a capacity record
during the world’s first field trial of single-carrier terabit-per-second data transmission on a deployed fibre
network. A terabit-per-second is enough bandwidth to download the entire Game of Thrones video series in HD in
under two seconds. This comes as Etisalat is investing heavily in its core network infrastructure in anticipation of
the massive increase in traffic from high bandwidth services. The Nokia field trial demonstrates that Etisalat’s
existing network can support the higher optical wavelength bit rates that will be required to support
high-bandwidth services such as 5G extreme mobile broadband (very fast wireless to the mobile),
fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and Data Center Interconnect (DCI) cloud services. Higher bit rates per wavelength
provide power and space savings, improved network simplicity, increased spectral efficiency and capacity, and
ultimately reduced cost per bit compared to optical networks composed of lower rate channels.

Nokia unveils Quillion chipset family to power next-generation massive scale
access networks
Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries
41
Solution Description
Nokia is launching Quillion, a new family of chipsets that will power next-generation massive scale access networks.
Leveraging Nokia’s extensive expertise, the Quillion chipset will allow operators to easily introduce 10G PON in
their fiber networks and to serve more users from ultra-high-speed G.fast access nodes. For operators planning to roll
out next-generation fiber access networks, the Quillion chipset powers Nokia’s 16-port Multi-PON line card, which
supports both GPON and NG-PON on each port. This allows operators with an existing GPON network to simply
“switch on” NG-PON services on each port without recabling or disrupting the GPON service. Quillion has also been
optimized to allow for low-latency applications that are critical for 5G transport and has built-in programmability to
support intents that pave the way toward automated workflows, such as network slicing for 5G transport. The
Quillion chipset family also gives operators with copper infrastructure access to the highest density G.fast and Vplus
solutions on the market. Helping to reduce rack space by 50% and power consumption by 10%, Nokia’s enhanced
copper solutions with Quillion chipsets enable operators to support more customers without increasing the cabinet
size. This is critical for providers confined by the capacity and space of a given cabinet or node, and eliminates
investment in additional rackspace, cabinets or nodes needed to serve more customers or deliver enhanced
ultra-broadband services.

Solution Description
Nokia and Hutchison 3 Indonesia (3ID) have completed the first 5G end-to-end live network trial in Indonesia. The trial, which was
conducted on a Nokia network on millimeter wave frequencies, demonstrates the 3ID network’s ability to support end-to-end 5G
deployment. Multiple tests were conducted on the 28 GHz spectrum, obtaining the highest data download speeds of up to 1.62 Gbps
with 11ms latency while upload speeds of 75.9 Mbps were measured. The trial also included a voice call test, which was initiated on
the 5G trial network and realized over VoLTE (voice over existing LTE network) to demonstrate how basic telephony services would be
handled in 5G. The trial, which also involved the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, was conducted
at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya, East Java. It focused on education-related use cases, utilizing 5G
technology to enable a public lecture conducted in real-time between two major cities, Surabaya and Jakarta. During the trial, ministry
officials and academics from the ITS delivered a public lecture, with a representative from the Indonesia 5G Forum joining them via a
live stream holographic projection from Jakarta. The tests were conducted over a Nokia-built network, including radio, core and
transport, providing high, unfettered download and upload speeds with low latency. They demonstrated how 5G technology can be used
to give students remote access to learning materials that may be difficult to access due to physical distances. The trial also showed how
the learning experience can be made more immersive while helping students compete with their academic peers in other locations. It
also confirmed the ability of 5G to go well beyond simple connectivity in supporting economic and social development in Indonesia.

Nokia: Nokia launches new packet-optical switches for 5G Cloud RAN
Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries
44
Solution Description
Nokia introduced the 1830 Time-sensitive Packet Switch (TPS) family of time-sensitive networking (TSN) switches, which reduce the
cost and complexity of Cloud RAN deployments by enabling packet-based transport for mobile fronthaul. The new family of switches
transparently supports a mix of existing and new radio interface protocols, unifying mobile transport for 4G and 5G networks. The
launch comes as 5G is set to introduce support for applications that demand ultra-low latency – the time it takes for a signal to make a
round-trip on the network. By distributing applications to multi-access edge computing (MEC) locations at the periphery of the network
– closer to mobile users – signals travel shorter distances, dramatically reducing latency. Cloud RAN architectures enable this new class
of time-sensitive applications by distributing certain RAN functions to the same MEC nodes at the edge of the network. Scalable,
ultra-low latency, and deterministic mobile transport is required to meet the stringent infrastructure demands of Cloud RAN
architectures, and the heightened user experience expectations of 5G time-critical services. Employing strict traffic prioritization and
frame pre-emption, the 1830 TPS creates deterministic paths through a switched Ethernet network. Such determinism was previously
unavailable in packet-switched networks and is essential to ensuring the reliable delivery of critical traffic with stringent latency
demands. High-precision timing provides accurate synchronization for 5G radios, while leveraging Nokia RAN expertise in mapping
Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) streams enables the 1830 TPS to achieve nearly 40% greater bandwidth efficiency than
competing alternatives.

connect energy usage information and their carbon impact with practical, everyday actions like switching on the washing machine. With the
ability to see detailed, up-to-the-minute information about energy usage via the app, and with the power to share that data with everyone in
the household, SmartThings Energy Control gives people the power to make informed choices about their energy consumption. Demand for
power is at its peak between 4 and 7pm in the UK. Energy at this time is expensive and carbon-intensive, as this high demand is met mostly
by burning fossil fuels. In the next few months the app will integrate with Bulb’s Smart Tariff and advise members how much they’ll be
able to save if they shift some of their energy use out of the peak hours, the most expensive parts of the day. As well as reporting on how
much energy usage costs, the app will also provide data on carbon intensity so households can make greener decisions about when to use
energy. Running pre-set oven programmes or dishwasher cycles outside of peak hours will help people to use energy at greener, cheaper
times, helping members to save on their energy bills and lower their carbon impact.

  • 12. Financial, M&A Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Nokia Corporation Financial Report for Q3 and January-September 2019 • Net sales in Q3 2019 were EUR 5.7 billion, compared to EUR 5.5 billion in Q3 2018. On a constant currency basis, net sales increased 1%. Our solid overall topline performance was driven by improved industry demand and the competitiveness of our end-to-end portfolio, with growth across four out of six regions and all customer types. • Non-IFRS diluted EPS in Q3 2019 was EUR 0.05, compared to EUR 0.06 in Q3 2018, primarily driven by lower gross profit in Networks and a net negative fluctuation in financial income and expenses. This was partially offset by higher gross profit in Nokia Software and continued progress related to Nokia’s cost savings program, which resulted in lower operating expenses across Networks, Nokia Software and Nokia Technologies. • Reported diluted EPS in Q3 2019 was EUR 0.01, compared to negative EUR 0.02 in Q3 2018, primarily driven by continued progress related to Nokia’s cost savings program and a gain on defined benefit plan amendments, partially offset by higher income taxes. • In Q3 2019, net cash and current financial investments decreased sequentially by approximately EUR 160 million. Within this, we generated positive net cash from operating activities, which partially offset cash outflows from investing and financing activities, including the payment of the quarterly dividend. • Full year 2019 and full year 2020 outlook lowered primarily due to margin pressure, additional 5G investments and additional digitalization investments. Executive Commentary President and Ceo, On Q3 2019 Results: Nokia delivered a solid third quarter, with positive free cash flow; widespread sales growth; solid operating margin; strong performances in Nokia Enterprise, Nokia Software and IP Routing; and good progress towards meeting our 2019 cost reduction goals. We are proud to have launched 15 live 5G networks with customers, including Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile in the US; Vodafone Italy and Zain in Saudi Arabia; as well as SKT, KT and LGU+ in Korea. Many of our businesses are performing well and we expect Q4 to be strong, with a robust operating margin and an increase in net cash of approximately EUR 1.2 billion. At the same time, some of the risks that we flagged previously related to the initial phase of 5G are now materializing. In particular, our Q3 gross margin was impacted by product mix; a high cost level associated with our first generation 5G products; profitability challenges in China; pricing pressure in early 5G deals; and uncertainty related to the announced operator merger in North America. The ADTRAN SD-WAN platform provides both outbound and inbound quality of service (QoS), seamless connectivity and control of cloud applications and voice services. The solution automatically detects business critical and performance-sensitive traffic without having to manually set up policies as with first-generation SD-WAN solutions. This capability enables all future cloud applications to integrate into the business without manual intervention. Additionally, the SD-WAN solution delivers end-to-end visibility, measuring each connection from any location on the network, all along its path, to ADTRAN gateways at any other location. Further, by identifying application traffic in real time, it can detect and automatically adjust based on the performance needs of the applications currently in use. Unlike many edge-based or next-generation firewall-based SD-WAN solutions, this improved SD-WAN cloud supports active-active WAN links, inbound QoS, single IP failover and a cloud gateway component for control of cloud-based content. It also includes multiple gateways across the continental U.S and has its own redundant backbone between gateways, upstream feeds at each gateway, and connections for each customer location to two gateways for failover protection. Additionally, service providers have the option to move the cloud software to their data centers when they are ready—providing flexibility to roll-out SD-WAN quickly by leveraging the new ADTRAN SD-WAN cloud solution. • 33. Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Fujitsu Develops AI based Facial Expression Recognition Technology to Accurately Detect Subtle Changes in Expression Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries 27 Solution Description Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. and Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. announced the development of an AI facial expression recognition technology that detects subtle changes in facial expression with a high degree of accuracy. The new technology was developed in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science. One of the obstacles for facial expression recognition technology is the difficulty in providing large amounts of data required to train detection models for each facial pose, because faces are usually captured with a wide variety of poses in real-world applications. To address the problem, Fujitsu has developed a technology to adapt different normalization process for each facial image. For example, when the angle of the subject's face is oblique, the technology can adjust the image to more closely resemble the frontal image of the face, allowing the detection model to be trained with a relatively small amount of data. The technology can accurately detect subtle emotional changes, including uncomfortable or nervous laughter, confusion, etc.-even when the subject's face is moving in a real-world context. Fujitsu anticipates that the new technology will find use in a variety of real-world applications, including communication facilitation for employee engagement and to improve workplace safety for drivers and factory workers. • 34. Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Fujitsu Develops Technology to Prevent the Analogy of Encrypted Confidential Information Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries 28 Solution Description Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. announced that it has developed a technology that enables safer search of database by strengthening its secure search technology, which can infer a database or the contents of a search while they are encrypted, preventing the inference of the original data. Even in an encrypted database, there is a risk that the original data may be inferred from the number of registered data, for example, by comparing it with published statistical information. By adding a minimum amount of dummy data to the database, the newly developed technology can disturb the number of entries in the database and prevent the original data from being inferred. This enables a more secure utilization of encrypted database of personal data(1) and confidential data(2), which are managed in various locations such as the cloud. Moreover, the new technology is expected to promote data utilization across organizations. Along with the enactment of the Basic Act for the Advancement of Public and Private Sector Data Utilization(3) and other legal developments, as well as the spread of systems such as cloud computing and big data analysis, it is expected that personal and confidential data will be utilized across organizations and industries. In the medical field, the Next Generation Medical Infrastructure Act(4) was enacted in 2018, and companies and universities have been promoting research and development of drug discovery based on clinical data of hospitals. • 36. Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Fujitsu Develops Technology for Maintaining Stable, High-Accuracy AI Operations Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries 30 Solution Description Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd., announced the development of the world's first "High Durability Learning" technology that estimates the accuracy of AI and automatically restores AI models. In a business context, AI models often struggle to maintain accuracy over the course of operations due to frequent changes in input data caused by shifts in social conditions and market trends. The newly developed technology makes it possible to automatically estimate the accuracy of the AI model during operations while preventing deterioration of its accuracy. This technology enables AI models to be maintained with high accuracy over a long period, and enables stable AI operations in various circumstances. This technology will be offered as part of Fujitsu's Human Centric AI Zinrai, a comprehensive portfolio that encompasses Fujitsu's wide range of AI technologies and techniques. As AI models built from training data find additional uses in business, shifts in social conditions, market trends, and the environment can lead to changes in input data from the time when the model was initially trained. This cause deterioration of the accuracy of an AI model. When evaluating corporate credit risk in the financial sector using an AI model trained with corporate financial data, for instance, the accuracy of credit risk estimates will gradually deteriorate. This is because tendencies of input data into the system will change over time after the model was initially trained due to broader trends in the economy. This makes it essential to periodically check the accuracy of AI models being used for business. If deterioration of the accuracy is confirmed, the AI model must be retrained using the latest data to restore the accuracy of its predictions. Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Nokia completes world’s first single-carrier terabit-per-second field trial, sets optical transmission capacity record over Etisalat’s fibre network in UAE Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries 40 Solution Description Nokia and Etisalat, one of the world’s leading telecom groups in emerging markets, have set a capacity record during the world’s first field trial of single-carrier terabit-per-second data transmission on a deployed fibre network. A terabit-per-second is enough bandwidth to download the entire Game of Thrones video series in HD in under two seconds. This comes as Etisalat is investing heavily in its core network infrastructure in anticipation of the massive increase in traffic from high bandwidth services. The Nokia field trial demonstrates that Etisalat’s existing network can support the higher optical wavelength bit rates that will be required to support high-bandwidth services such as 5G extreme mobile broadband (very fast wireless to the mobile), fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and Data Center Interconnect (DCI) cloud services. Higher bit rates per wavelength provide power and space savings, improved network simplicity, increased spectral efficiency and capacity, and ultimately reduced cost per bit compared to optical networks composed of lower rate channels. For operators planning to roll out next-generation fiber access networks, the Quillion chipset powers Nokia’s 16-port Multi-PON line card, which supports both GPON and NG-PON on each port. This allows operators with an existing GPON network to simply “switch on” NG-PON services on each port without recabling or disrupting the GPON service. Quillion has also been optimized to allow for low-latency applications that are critical for 5G transport and has built-in programmability to support intents that pave the way toward automated workflows, such as network slicing for 5G transport. The Quillion chipset family also gives operators with copper infrastructure access to the highest density G.fast and Vplus solutions on the market. Helping to reduce rack space by 50% and power consumption by 10%, Nokia’s enhanced copper solutions with Quillion chipsets enable operators to support more customers without increasing the cabinet size. This is critical for providers confined by the capacity and space of a given cabinet or node, and eliminates investment in additional rackspace, cabinets or nodes needed to serve more customers or deliver enhanced ultra-broadband services. Solution Updates IT Shades Engage & Enable Nokia: Nokia launches new packet-optical switches for 5G Cloud RAN Feel free to contact us at marketing@itshades.com for any queries 44 Solution Description Nokia introduced the 1830 Time-sensitive Packet Switch (TPS) family of time-sensitive networking (TSN) switches, which reduce the cost and complexity of Cloud RAN deployments by enabling packet-based transport for mobile fronthaul. The new family of switches transparently supports a mix of existing and new radio interface protocols, unifying mobile transport for 4G and 5G networks. The launch comes as 5G is set to introduce support for applications that demand ultra-low latency – the time it takes for a signal to make a round-trip on the network. By distributing applications to multi-access edge computing (MEC) locations at the periphery of the network – closer to mobile users – signals travel shorter distances, dramatically reducing latency. Cloud RAN architectures enable this new class of time-sensitive applications by distributing certain RAN functions to the same MEC nodes at the edge of the network. Scalable, ultra-low latency, and deterministic mobile transport is required to meet the stringent infrastructure demands of Cloud RAN architectures, and the heightened user experience expectations of 5G time-critical services. Employing strict traffic prioritization and frame pre-emption, the 1830 TPS creates deterministic paths through a switched Ethernet network. Such determinism was previously unavailable in packet-switched networks and is essential to ensuring the reliable delivery of critical traffic with stringent latency demands. High-precision timing provides accurate synchronization for 5G radios, while leveraging Nokia RAN expertise in mapping Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) streams enables the 1830 TPS to achieve nearly 40% greater bandwidth efficiency than competing alternatives.
