Mission San Luis is a living history museum located in Tallahassee, Florida that recreates the 1633 Spanish mission of the same name. The mission offers tours led by costumed interpreters and several annual events. It shares the history of the Apalachee Indians and Spanish settlers through reconstructed buildings like the Council House, home of the village chief, and the Franciscan Church, where Christianity was taught. Mission San Luis aims to give visitors insight into the mixed cultural lifestyle of its ancestors from the 16th and 17th centuries.

3. History
Mission San Luis offers history on the Applachee Indians, Friars, and
Spanish Americans of the sixteenth and seventeenth century.
Mission San Luis gives people a real look into the lives of their ancestors
with real life examples of of their mixed cultural lifestyles.
Mission San Luis was the biggest mission of Friar religion and community
of mixed cultures.
- Mission San Luis was established in 1633
• Its main purposes were to convert the Apalachee Indians to Christianity
which the Friars made possible and to take over the region of Apalachee
Province
-Mission San Luis was destroyed and burnt to the ground in 1704
- Mission San Luis was reopened for the history lovers of the twentieth
century in the year 2009
4. Architecture of Mission San Luis
• Many buildings were recreated to experience the lifestyle and culture of
the Appalachee Indians and Friars.
• Three of which are most important
- The Council House: where the village held ceremonies, gatherings, celebrations, and
important meetings. As well as where the Chief of Mission San Luis resided.
- The House of San Luis: this building was used for the soldiers barracks, a storage area, and a
place to keep the community safe in case a battle were to break out outside or within Mission
San Luis.
- The Franciscan Church- this particular building was very influential for Mission San Luis
inhabitants. The Franscian church was a place where religion of Christianity was taught and a
place of worship for the community of Mission San Luis.
• Other achitectuural buildongs and reconstructed areas were
the Hispanic Village, and the Friary Complex.
